I dont want arguments, healthy discussion would be good though As I hate doing anyhting with my childrens health that isn't natural eg:breastfeeding, pain killers etc. But with vaccines I just thought it was the next step for bubs once they're born.
We are told about bf vs formula and cloth vs sposies. But why not to vaccinate vs not to?
At the moment my thoughts are Id rather my child get vaccinated then get a disease and die BUT I also dont know anything about the alternative.
Aw ok. Was hoping to get some peoples opinions too Thanks Heaven but now Im confused weather I should or shouldn't. I did with Annabelle and she's all good, but I guess its a risk in the end?
I do with my kids. I'm not sure about DS's chicken pox one. Don't think I'll bother, but I have the others all done.
I do see the reasons people don't & would not question it, but I feel safer doing it.
Probably just coz its always the way things happened. Knew nothing else back when DD1 was born, but its me. Its my choice & I choose to do it.
I have 2 friends who don't. One doesn't see doctors at all & I worry with the kind of person that she is that she might take risks & not see a doctor when needed, & the other is so paranoid about anything coming into contact with her DS I really think she should've just vax'd him to relax a bit.
I feel like if my kids give hers something I'm evil or something. She's really scared. Measles did go around here a while ago & she didn't leave the house. She vax'd her DD but not her DS. She was comfortable with her DD being vax'd, but she's alot less comfortable with her DS not being vax'd.
Because for most people (ie normal healthy people with no specific medical issues that contraindicate vaccination), the risk of complications from an infectious disease is far greater than the risk of complications from the vaccine.
Nothing in life is without risk. I'm not going to tell you that vaccines have no side effects. They do, and the rate of these has been well studied. The rate of really unpleasant results from the diseases is much, much worse. I don't mean the unpleasantness of having a normal course of measles, I mean death or brain damage or something similarly drastic.
So, in brief, your children are safer if you vaccinate. This is not just my opinion, it is medical, scientific fact.
As for the article linked above, most of it is, I'm sorry to say, rubbish. Some of it was once accurate but is now outdated and thus doesn't apply to the vaccines now used in Australia. Some of it is just plain wrong, written by people who have never bothered to try to understand how vaccines are actually produced, and reproduced here with (no doubt) good intentions but damaging results. Even the title is misleading: "10 reasons why parents choose not to vaccinate" doesn't mean that they are 10 good reasons, or even that one single reason of the 10 is good. To me it always begs the (ok, slightly silly, but no less silly than most of that article) question of "if I chose not to vaccinate because the moon is made of green cheese, would you let my choice inform yours?".
I am happy to explain why the information in that article is misleading in more detail if you'd like. It won't get a good reception here, for sure, but I'll put in the time to write it out if there is genuine interest from someone.
If you are unsure about vaccination, why don't you discuss it with a GP you trust? Despite what some of the anti-vaccination-conspiracy-theory-folk would have you believe, most doctors have our best interests at heart, and they are certainly more expert than most of us in this kind of thing, as it's their profession. Let your instinct tell you whether the person you are talking to can be trusted! If you have a doctor you know and like, they will be a much better source of information than just asking random people (myself included!) online.
I did start to vaccinate and my first two are fully vaccinated and #3 is bar her 4yo boosters because that's just what you do isn't it? It does **** me no end that there is only ever the 'for vaccination' and never any info about the 'against' - how can parents ever truly make a 100% informed decision about something that is so important if you are never given, or told where to find the information? My youngest is vaccinated to 6 months but I got super jaded with it all and the 'one size fits all' mentality of vaccinations. My youngest baby was over 10lb at birth and he got the same size vaccination dose as a baby who was half his size. Now tell me that's right? If you were to give your baby infant paracetamol, would you give your 5kg bub (for example) the same size dose as an 8kg bub? No way, because you would overdose them. So why should vaccinations be treated any differently in this regard.
My other issue with vaccinations is all the carrier liquid that the vaccination is in. There is stuff in there that has no right being in a newborn baby or child's body. Would you knowingly inject your baby with these vaccination ingredients? Vaccine Ingredients Hell no! Indeed if you did you would be locked up and your children taken away. Now I do understand that these amounts are minute, but any amount of these ingredients could be too much for some babies and you just do not know what circumstances will tip the scales against you and you end up with a child with very serious side effects or complications.
I don't give two hoots if someone who is pro vaccination steps in and tells me I am talking out my arse, because it is my right as a parent to make what I think is the best decision for my family, just as it is their right to vaccinate if they wish. I am not telling you either way what you should or shouldn't do, but I am telling you why I did what I did. Every parent needs do their own research on this because there is no one blanket solution that will suit every family. And every parent needs to respect that others will not take the same path as they did and that does not mean that one camp is wrong and the other right, far from it, it just means that you are raising your children differently.

DM, we're not vaxing iz till she's older, even then, she's only getting tetanus, hep b and rubella, (still deciding on the rubella)
its a personal choice and most ppl who choose to not vax or delay/selectivley vax have done tonnes of research on the topic and are fairly well informed.
We arent stupid like some ppl think, we know the risks involved and take necessary precautions
i dont know about u, but i certainly dont like the thought of parts of animal fetus' running through my baby girls body!

we decided not to vax so we could infect the nation(yup the entire nation) with diseases... (cos thast what us non vaxers do yano)
it is very obvious Tenar has an issue with people allowing information to be passed on that is not FOR vaxing, but unfortunatley drug companies and the government do not allow anti vaxing info to be released in peer reviewed journals..
DM sadly this is another can of worms opening topic just like the FF vs BF one, neither side can agree to disagree.
there is a tonne of info, for and against the topic, what u need to keep in mind is where the info is comming from.
after all smoking used to be suggested to pregnant women to help them relax! they wouldnt tell u to do that now that the truth about smoking is out there would they?
if your having trouble deciding what to do with L pm me and we can talk about it there

Sure formaldehyde is only found in small amounts in vaccinations, but I get an asthma attack when sniffing it... I don't want it injected into my child.
Sorry... I'll get to my reasons personally and try to ignore other issues.
With Matilda we decided to do a delayed schedule of vaccinations in order to let her body develop prior to injecting toxins (yes my perception or whatever...) into her body. When it came time to the MMR I was desperately concerned. Matilda had already shown some warning signs of autism, but as I went into the GP to discus the issue, someone else had paid to have the MMR sent as two separate compounds from the UK. They paid big bucks but then decided not to do it. So the GP had it there, and we did it.
Matilda has autism. She's had no further vaccinations. I can't go into it atm why I'm so dumbfounded that people insist that there is no link... thats fine, but they don't have to live my life. I know others with autism who feel like it doesn't matter if they have it. And it doesn't matter, but as a mother my heart breaks... and when she's in meltdown ... I wouldn't wish that hurt and stress upon anyone else.
DD2 is not vaccinated. I just can't bring myself to do it. She is 3 now. We used homeopathic viral immunisations for both girls when they started daycare in order to help boost their immune systems again contagious diseases.
Both girls have come into contact with measles and chicken pox. Neither have contracted it.
So sounds like there are risks with both. Like everything in life I guess. I use everything organic/natural for my babies, food, wipes, nappies etc why not vaccs! Hopefully one day... Im truly so confused.
skybie- Im one of those annoying pro bf mummies. I will pm you
Christy- I watched Oprah with Jenny Macartney (SP) on it about her son having autisim, made me think there's a diffenant link!
I understand everyone has an opinion on how to raise their children. But I also think that nobody can make an 'informed' choice without the correct info or in my case non at all
I just last week was pro vaccs BUT Im know thinking its just because I know no other way?

ive had both my kids vaxed only 1 claire didnt get was the chicken pox one as she had already had it before 18 months so no point BUT i did have a hell of an ordeal getting her into primary school because they didnt want to take her as her immunisation certificate wasnt "complete" although she wasnt required to have that needle, so if you chose not to vax i dare say you would have to home school
DM, you're exactly right, DD1 is fully vaxed because i thought i HAD to, now that i know differently and know what i do about vaccinations, it doesnt seem like the right thing to do to a baby (IMO)
MRs s Day care centres, kinders and schools CAN NOT discriminate against non vaccinators. there is no way that anyone who chooses not to vaccinate their children would have to home school
You don't have to home school at all if you choose not to vaccinate. All you need is a conscientious objection form signed by your Dr and lodged with the Childhood Immunisation register and there will be no problems at all sending your child to a kinder/childcare or school. If there is an outbreak then your child will be excluded from school till it has passed.
My DD2 starts school next year and I took the blue book when I enrolled her, told them she didn't have the 4yo booster and all I got was a shrug of the shoulders and a 'that's OK'. I do have a conscientious objection form lodged for my youngest child though. In all honesty I may decide to vaccinate in the future but for now it is not the right thing for us to do.
DM, at the end of the day hun, it is your decision and yours alone and it will take you a lot of soul searching to get there . We can tell you why we did or didn't and how that has affected us (because there are a lot of people who don't agree with non-vaccination and will feel they have the right to tell you so IRL) I have been lucky to never have copped it, but then I don't tell anyone either because it is none of their business. And it is hard when from the word go you are only told of one way to do things and you are never told that you have the option to 'opt out'.

it must depend on the school then i know Claires primary school weren't all "thats ok" about the chicken pox needle and very up tight about vaccinations
