To get my body ready for TTC ... the challenge is on

When xh & I split I was a horrible weight. Since then (18+ months) I've dropped about 30-35kg. I need to lose another 15kg to get down to a good weight to contemplate TTC, I should lose a lot more but I know what weight I was at my fittest in high-school and there is no way I'd ever get back down to that again.

So the challenge is on for me to shift the last 15kgs (if I lose more, then I lose more).

So this will be a marker of my journey. I'm sick of being as heavy as I am now.

Last night's exercise was about 30 mins of some serious fire twirling, by the end I was out of breath (from the exercise & the laughing), sweaty and covered in soot (from snotting myself with the poi).

I've also got some hypnosis CDs that I listen to every day.

first 10-15 of that was stress due to my marriage breakdown - the rest I've slowly lost in a normal manner

Kaz - good luck to you too on this journey!

Yeah but you kept it off mate. I've lost weight in the past from stress/illness but it all came back again.

I feel really excited for us!! It's going to be great to be 15kg lighter!

35kg is truly something to be proud of - so good on you!

From someone who's lost a bit of weight and kept it off despite not being able to exercise (dodgy back/pelvis), I've got two words - portion control.

It finally sunk in for me one day when I was buying three pieces of sushi (sushi is healthy right, so you can eat lots) and realised that the non-overweight people were buying two pieces and the skinny people were buying one piece. The only people buying three or more were the overweight ones like me. I now buy two and that's a meal not a snack!

Well I realised exactly how much 30kg weighs today when I did laps of the pool with CQ's youngest daughter on my back - she weighs just over 30kgs - just think I used to carry around that (and more).

fionas - I use a bread'n'butter plate as my dinner plate nowdays, fill it with salad etc and then add the small piece of meat (usually only the size of my palm). When I was with the xh - I overate - because I'd cook enough food to feed him, the flatmate (from hell) and me, and I'd dish them up all on the same sized plate (which was fine for 2 males but not for me). I also stop eating when I'm hungry, I don't have to finish the food.

Once the final stuff with the xh is settled (my current ticker) then I'll put a weight loss ticker - so I have a daily reminder of what I need to lose.

I also don't have scales so this could be interesting

Scales are a bad thing Punks. Use the way your clothes fit as your guide.

Sounds great Punks! My sis has a cool trick of eating to 80% full and then stopping. That might tie in well with Fiona's portion control tip (which I love, I never thought about too much healthy food being unwise!).

I did have a set, but I went to put them away one day and they shattered (they were the funky glass topped ones from ikea) - which was (I think) the universe's way of telling me to stop weighing myself

was reading the current NI (i think?) and it has the kick start diet in that, will be trying that as of the weekend! BUT they say there not to weigh yourself until you're in maintenance, but instead to measure your waist @ the bellybutton fortnightly to get an idea of the shifting weight

well done AP & you look amazing now, can't wait to catch up with you when we've both lost weight!

I understand why they reckon weighing yourself is bad but it actually worked a treat for me. Mind you, I wasn't exercising though so the lines weren't blurred by me putting on muscle.

The reason I like weighing myself every day is that it really helped me understand what amounts I could eat (and drink) without putting on weight, what amounts would make me lose weight and what would make me put on weight.

If I have small portions all day and no booze, I lose weight. If I have moderate portions and a couple of wines my weight stays the same and if I have big portions and/or bad stuff plus wine then I put on weight.

I know that should have been common sense but weighing myself daily really brought it home to me in a very immediate way.
