Cool How much is your PHI going up by?

Received a letter from NIB today about the price hikes as of 01/04/2010.

We have top of the range cover with nil hospital excess, so top, top cover and it will be going up by nearly $50 which will make it close to $400 per month.
I'm thinking of going down to medium cover with nil excess (nil excess due to the number of surgeries we will be having this year).

How much will your PHI go up by? Are you considering reducing the benefits??

Also NIB - but we only have fairly basic cover. Going up by $8.39 per month. I think about the only way we can reduce our cover is by dropping it completely, and we won't be doing that!

Funny that you posted this thread today, TD. I've had the letter sitting there for a few days but only got around to opening it this evening.

I received mine today. I was dreading it. Now i dread it even more. DH says stick with it, but i'm thinking of reducing to "family plus" which pays back only 65% of the extras you pay for, whereas now the top cover pays 75%. I'm going to call them tomorrow.

I have no idea, DH's work pays for it, but I assume if the costs are going up, then that means the value of it will increase as part of DH's salary package so it will increase the amount of FBT we pay?

We're with Teachers Federation Health. Top hospital (Nil excess) & top extras gone from $258.40 to $274 per month after rebate for family cover. Comparing to some of these other funds I guess I have nothing to complain about when it comes to our premiums! We definitely make the most of it though and got our $$ worth with IVF treatment last year (the day surgery costs would have been huge and they covered a lot of the $$$ meds) and with the Private Hospital cover for our upcoming birth. Fund also covered all our antenatal classes (would have been $300) so IMO it's worth it for us and we'll be continuing with it.

Were with hfc, got hospital (with $400 excess fee) and extras cover. Going $15 month.I think we pay bout $270 month, can't remember exact. I am so annoyed with PHI at the moment. The amount we pay for it and I don't feel I get my money worth, only keep it in case the kids ever get sick and we don't want them stuck on long waiting lists

We're with HBA, and have Hospital ($500 excess) and Extras and its gone up $10 a month. Not happy jan We're seriously considering dropping it altogether at the moment. I am quite happy with the public system here, but I am weary of long waiting lists should any of us require extensive surgery.

I went into our PHI yesterday to look at reducing our hospital cover, and possibly our extras, (from the top cover) to keep a few $ in our pockets.. And it is going up $11. So what I am saving by reducing cover, is just going to keep it at what we are currently paying

And we are keeping it mainly for the kids, just to have a choice.

Mine's going up by $30/month after the rebate. We have medium cover - hospital and extras but none of the FUN extras, just the usual ones. We will be paying about $210/month with this increase. DH and I just don't want to muck around with changing things until after the baby comes because I am worried something will happen and they won't cover us or I won't be covered for obstetrics because of the change and waiting periods.

I work for my health insurance company and i have to say if you live in VIC your health insurance is going up more than any other state not happy Jan, even with 50% off my cover, mine is still going up nearly $20 a month.

I just want to commend you all for not getting angry with your health funds on here. I have been copping abuse from our members every day since friday on every single call i take and at 28 weeks preg it is taking it's toll.. A man today was so abusive I cried.

Mrs Hendo- its awful to have to cop crap in your job, not like you put up the prices!
My letter specifically mentioned in it that ALL funds were increasing, I guess so not to get everyone calling up.
I more blame the government for crappy health system that force us into it.
The biggest thing that bugs me with PHI is the fact you have to go to their participating hospitals, what if those hospitals don't cater for your needs, as happened to my sister, she has top cover hospital yet couldnt get help cause the hospital she needed wouldnt accept her health fund!
