Angry Ebay/Paypal - can she do this??

I just brought an item on ebay last night and paid for it by paypal immediately after the auction finished, thinking I was doing the right thing, speedy transaction and all that jazz.

Anyhoo, I get an email from the seller this morning telling me that she needs to wait until Paypal has cleared into her account which usually takes up to 5 days. So 5 days for Paypal to clear, then up to 10 days for postage it could be over 2 weeks before I receive the item. Not happy Jan!! If I'd known this, I would never have bid because I want it asap. She said she usually puts this info on the invoice but I paid 'too quickly' WTF?? Don't you think this info should have been included in the auction information??

I thought Paypal was guaranteed payment so why does she need to hold the item till it has cleared her account?? Is she allowed to do this?

I would report her to paypal and ebay hon...it sound like she is transferring the money from her paypal account to her bank account and making you wait.

that information needs to be stated on her item discription on the sale item...not an invoice. Its misleading.

    Bugger her, report her!

I'm going to reply to her email first basically saying I paid in good faith and expect the item to be shipped immediately. I just didn't know if this was standard practice cause I don't buy stuff on ebay often...now I remember why

***ETA: BUGGER! She has actually stated this in her payment information so there's not much I can do. I might refer it to ebay and see if they think this is fair.

WHAT???? Paypal payments are instant. Maybe, like Maz said, she's waiting to transfer it into her account? That's crazy!! Why bother waiting? And it usually only takes a few days to clear, not 5!

I'd be having a few words with her if I were you .

and when you email her hon tell her that if she doesnt send it asap as yourve paid you'll report her to ebay for being dishonest.

I am over people like this on ebay...grrrrr. they make it so hard for the honest ones

If the money is sitting in Paypal then it means its already been cleared on your side. Sounds like she's waiting til she can actually access the cash. Which is NOT your problem. Technically, the money HAS been cleared so the item should be shipped asap.

Can I report it even though she's stated in her payment info on the auction that it could take up to 5 days for Paypal to clear?

I sent her an email saying:
I appreciate your email but have to say that I am very disappointed you will be holding the item for up to 5 days considering payment has been made in good faith. It could be up to 2 weeks before I receive the item.
Will wait and see what she says before I mention reporting it to Ebay.

Trish - You know what it was don't you?? Am so desperate for it at this point!

I would report it - regardless of what she has written in her terms, I am almost certain that she is not allowed to make that stipulation - either according to PP or Ebay rules.

Report it and leave negative feedback.

If it is cleared in her PP account then there is no way it will not clear into her bank account - and that time delay is her issue, not yours and has NO bearing whatsoever on the validity of your payment.

That's what I thought Limey, thanks!

    How do I report it

*Sigh* this is why I don't use Ebay.

**ETA: Well I just reported the email to Ebay. Up to them what they do about it I guess. I do feel a bit bad though She just struck me on the wrong day! I guess if what she has done is legit then it's all good, no harm done.

I was scared it was what I thought it was! You may be able to report through myeBay. Next to the item there should be the option "leave feedback", underneath that is "more options". Click on that and select "resolve a problem", hopefully you can go from there. Otherwise go to eBay's live help and ask someone that way.

    Good luck .

Trish - I just went back to the message and it had a little 'report' button. Basically it just forwards the email to customer service to have a look at.

I do feel bad now though!

I have had that happen in the past as well and I sent the seller basically informing her that paypal clears straight away, as in the money has left my account therefore the item is technically "paid for" even though it has yet to clear her account and I expected the item to be posted as promptly as I had paid .......... she waited until payment cleared and took her time posting it out so I left neg feedback
hope she does the right thing and sends your stuff quickly.

    Maybe she doesnt know?
I had no idea to be honest, and most of the time when I've sold stuff on ebay its been cos i needed the money. These no way id have been able to afford to post it to them if they'd paid by paypal until it cleared to my account. Im glad my people have paid by direct deposit!

But if that's the case then I think she should have said that direct deposit was her preferred payment method, I would have been more than happy with that. Especially if I knew it meant I'd get the item faster. I used Paypal because I thought that's what she wanted.

i sometimes do this myself but i clearly and boldly state in my item description that if paying by paypal there will be a delay on the postage as i dont have the cash to pay for postage im relying on the money being paid so DD and PU are prefered

Unfortunately seller's aren't allowed to say they prefer methods other than PayPal anymore . They have no choice but to accept PayPal and aren't allowed to say they won't accept it or their listing will be pulled. (Guess who owns PayPal ).

I hope you get it sooner than later .

i guess that makes sense with her waiting for it to clear so she can have the money to post it. still, its a pain in the bum.

btw, i hate having to offer paypal. the fees are crazy! i once sold a baby bath tub for 5 bucks and it was pick up. the lady transferred the money via pay pal and then picked up the item. i was really annoyed because there was only the 5 bucks in there and it was too little an amount to transfer to my bank account, and once the fees were taken out there wasnt much left of it. why didnt she just bring the money when she picked it up.. i still dont understand that. LOL (sorry to hijack)
