Question what are the children leads like??

i will have an almost 3yr old & a newborn in january

Zak hasnt been in a pram since he started walking at 16 months so it would be hard to get him in a pram then or should i invest in one of these "monkey leads"??

i don't go shopping often so its either monkey lead or a twin pram!

    help would be interested

I've never used one, but they look cute!

The other option is to get a skateboard to attach onto the back of your pram so your DS can ride and stay close to you?

My DS2 is 2.5 and if he's not in the pram, I just let him walk with me with me, I haven't needed a harness.

I think I'm going to need one of these! My 14 mo DD is a rat bag & thinks its a game when I tell her to stop when she's running off. She squeals with delight that mum is chasing her and it terrifies me. We were at a park last week & she ran off towards a great big drop off, little minx was quick too. Another lady saw what was happening and started running too, but I got there just in time! Needless to say, DD spent the rest of the time in the stroller!

If you arent lucky enough to get one of those mythical children who are angelic and never step a foot out of line; those animal harness leads ARE THE BEST INVENTION EVER!

Never had to use one on Ds1 but my Ds2 is a bolter. If he see's any opportunity to run, he will. Complete nightmare. The harness and lead make it so much easier to attach him to the pram so he can still be independent and walk but cant run off in the blink of an eye...................it acts kinda like a bungee cord and he just spring right back

Maybe see how your Ds goes before you buy one?

I tried one on DD (who likes to bolt too) and she was like a dog who didn't like the lead. She just sat down on the groun like she had lead in her butt.

    thanx everyone for ur comments

Freya- i was thinking about letting him go for awhile and see how he goes, he likes to hold my hand when we do go down to our local supermarket (or i get a pull along basket and involve him and he pulls it along while i do the shopping) but obviously with a new bub might be abit hard taking a pram when i can use a trolley..

I think with him holding my hand he should hold onto the pram but i guess im just gonna have to wait and see how he goes!

freya love it how u said "they spring right back" lol

oh and a HARNESS is what there properly known as preggy brain i think lol

When i first started to let DS out of the pram he was around 2years (DD a newborn) and i used one of the navy harness and leads and found it great. Especially when walking near roads or in shops where i didnt want him to run off or pull the shelves and their contents down. I still made it a rule that he held the pram and after he got used to it, id let him walk without the lead. Since then and even now he continues to walk and hold the pram the majority of the time. Has worked well for us.

We have a well loved one....it's only been worn twice....the rest of the time it has been played with to death lol.
My DD was a bolter. And she's quick.
I remember at 30 something weeks pregnant, I had my mum with me and the three of us were shopping in our main street (so very busy with traffic). All of a sudden I heard my mum gasp, and I saw a little pink streak run out the door. Now I've had plenty of practice chasing crooks, but man, I caught her just before she was about to bolt over the pedestrian crossing about 50metres away. My mum couldn't believe I could run so fast
When we were given a leash as a gift I was horrified, but I dug it out after that. She only took two goes to understand that I wasn't mucking around. She hated it (and I didn't love it either), but it got the message across. All prams have to have a wrist strap these days and that's what DD holds onto now. She was 2 and 10months when DS was born.

wow Kim i really hope my ds learns that quick he is pretty smart

he will be 2yrs and 9 months when this ones born, so not much difference, like i mentioned before he holds my hand to cross roads and even walk around the shopping centre but i do know the older they get the more independant they become and another baby being added ive been told older children tend to play up more to get ur attention so im quite nervous he's going to not want to hold my hand anymore

thankyou for helping me ladies once again

They're funny little souls. No doubt he will be a bit of a ratbag for a time, but I found it passed really quickly.
Darcy was walking with a GF of mine when we were out when Nate was little and she called the wrist strap her 'Darcy strap', so Darc wanted to hang onto that of course, then she showed her ours and she was happy after that....we just directed her need for control to a positive rather than a very frustrating runnaway negative.

We let DD choose hers & she loves it. But when she gets tired of walking she wants to hop in the pram

Kim- he even has to hold my hand to walk into daycare of a morning so im holding on tight hoping he will still do it in 7 months time! Thats cute of ur littles one to do that! BTW love the name Darcy

DB- thats a great idea of letting him choose the one he wants, he might like the idea of it then and not think too much of it

my mum went and bought me one when DD did a bolt in bunnings when I was 37wks pg - she could run faster than I could waddle! Mum's justification was what happens if she runs off, i can't really leave the pram. And, I love it. It saves alot of tantrums and a lot of stress. DD will happily put it on, and she knows that if she doesn't wear it, she has to sit in the pram. I went to th city a couple of weeks ago without it, and even though my mum was with me, it was so stressful that I didn't enjoy it at all. I find it gives that bit of security when its needed, so in the city or if we're walking to the shops by the road.
