Feeb, I brought one of them last year when target had them on sale and I honestly cannot fault it. I have used it a lot this past year (you should check out the Christmas sewing thread - links to all the sewing I did for Christmas are on there) and it's never skipped a beat. I think you should definitely get it, it is a great machine for a beginner sewer or someone who doesn't need a lot of fancy stitching.

I got a Janome one for Christmas from DH... its my first machine, it was $199 down from $299... got it from Metro sewing something... In southland (not sure where in melb you are, but there are a few of them around) Heard good things about the machine, good as a beginers one apparently.
I just need some bits to start practicing with!

Metro sewing centres. There is one at werribee, but you can also buy online there.

Great thread. I wouldn't mind a basic sewing machine myself to do some projects.

DH bought me a Janome last year. It was the second up from the base model at around $350 but you could probably find it cheaper if you shop around. I love it and have really enjoyed using it, i wanted that model because of the things it can do when I eventually get better (like button holes etc). I think brother are a pretty good brand too tho...... Enjoy I love fussing around and shopping at spotlight for new fabrics. . I hope you enjoy it too.

I got an Elna 344 Overlocker RRP: $699 on sale from $349 in Spotlight (catalogue) and they are delivering it to my door for $6.95. Woohoo! The one I am using is actually my SIL's and it needs a good service, but I think I have inspired my Mum to start sewing again so I will get it serviced (I don't think it has ever had one before) and pass it onto my Mum

I got a RRP $329 singer sewing maching for $169 and $6.95 delivery from lincraft online. It's a beautiful machine to sew with and very basic so you don't have to set 3 million things before you sew. Hasn't missed a beat repairing my 6 foot pile of clothes and nothing has jammed etc. Basically a foolproof design

Ohh Feeb you have done it again I have just bought a sewing/embroidery machine!

Only kidding I have been locking for a while and now that the machines I am using are in desperate need for a service I thought why not upgrade instead

I have been thinking about it and I think you should go for it, you only need a basic machine to learn, the machine I learnt on was 20+ years old (and it showed) and long as it sews a line you can begin learning
