    From thread #7...

Lilias - its a really good step to break the goal down into 5kg lots. After having my DS (my 2nd pg) I lost 36kgs - not even setting a real goal in the beginning. My goal was to 'look good' . I didn't even have a number of kilo's I wanted to lose. I would have stopped after losing 20kgs if I had thought I looked good, but 36kgs was the lucky number in the end. So 5kgs at a time is a good goal hun!

Subbing to this thread I need a kick up the backside to lose these last few kilos. I am maintaining a 20kg loss (lost over 6 months and maintained for another 6 months) but need to lose another 5kg to get to my goal weight. Don't have much time now but just wanted to say hi and I will be back for personals tomorrow

I just realised there was a new thread!!

Leesa, I think it will be easier for me to concerntrate on losing weight if I'm not so overwhelmed by the numbers. 30kg is just so much to me, and seems like a superhuman fewat to lose that much weight, but 5kg, I can and have lost before so it's doable, kwim?

Well off to a good start today, and it helps that it's a cold morning out here, I'm having some porridge with a little honey and a sugarless coffee. Not tasting so great right now, but I will get used to it. I also plan on mowing the lawns (our yard is huge!) for exercise today. It needs doing and DH is on an arvo shift for work, so I likely won't get to go for a walk, cause I have errands to do this morning, then the kids have naps...yada yada! So mowing it is, and maybe a little wii-ing!

Krystals - that sounds so easy peasy. Will make a note of that so when we are down to not enough veggies to do anything healthy with, which is normally the night before our f&v delivery, I can grate up the odd bods and cook 'em up!!!

Krystals thanks for the pattie suggestions. It does sound easy and we usually always have the ingredience.

Lilias how are you going getting started? I'm going to take your tip and mow the lawn (if I can start the mower)

Well I woke up last night to bub and decided today was the day. Although I should have started last week I feel of the wagon within hours but now I just have a good feeling that I am going to stick to it (most of the time) and loose some of this weight. So far so good. I'm going to track everything I eat maybe that will help.

Does anyone NOT know how much they weigh? I don't want to know. I have a rough estimate and I know the goals I want to achieve like fitting into certain size clothes etc and time frames but I know if I know my starting figure it wont help but make me depressed. I think I'll get my eldest to write it down (without me knowing the number) and tell me when I loose 5kilos etc, when I get under 80kilos etc

    Hi all,

I am going well these first few days. I have renewed my membership with Calorie King, it helped me focus on eating well and losing the little weight I did lose between my boys before I got pg again. It keeps on telling me that I shouldn't be doing it because I'm bfing, but it's accomodated extra calories for me. Does anyone know, 2000 calories is alright for a bfing mumma, right?? I did some light exercise, just some walking, though it was with DD so it wasn't at the pace I would have liked but it was movement I wouldn't normally do all the same. I didn't end up mowing the lawn though as it started to rain the one time I get all psyched up and motivated to do it, and it rains! Feeling good and positive, but these are the first few days which are always fairly easy. AF is due soon too, so I expect a drop in morale any day, lol!

Mildez, I considered not weighing and just going by my clothes, but I just couldn't do it, lol! I need hard facts and to see that number changing on the scales. I think for me, it would take too long for my clothes sizes to change for me to be patient and see that things are changing, kwim?

I do the lot! Weigh in once a week and measure all areas of my body. (bust, thighs, arms, waist, butt) When I was doing Step inot Life a few years ago, I lost 8cm of my boobs in the first month! I 'thought' my bras felt better but it wasn;t until saw the figures that I was over the moon! Same with my own personal weigh in. My clothes might feel butter on me but when I see the needles dropping...well....I like that feeling!

Fair bit of walking today and a good lunch - fish and fresh salad. I eat quite well but it my portion sizes that bring me down.

I'll get on the scales once I know they aren't going to be near 100kilos. I suspect I am around 90 or above. I'd like to be under 70 with 65 been ideal but its been 5years since I ve been that weight and definately not whilst BF.

I'm starting to feel hungry now. I made some low fat soup (lots of 0 point vegies and a tin of tomato soup and water in it) have been drinking lots of water and have been snacking on weight watchers Jelly. Ive got no fruit and no money to buy any so that sucks. I've mowed 1/3 of the lawn and I'm trying to do more cleaning so the house benefits also. I've been dusting which is a once every few months job and I want to wash the walls and scrub the shower (things that can go without) I think with a house full of children its going to be easier been creative at home. Biggest thing to get more motivated and burn more calories is getting of the net as I spend way to much time sitting reading.

Vixstar good suggestions with doing measurements. I have never done that before so I have nothing to compare not like the scales. I guess once I see cms coming of I'll know the weight is also. Right now I'd like to get into all my sz14 jeans. Some I can't even fit in them and others I can but can't do the button up. I'm hoping to do that by DH 30th which gives me 4weeks. Then my next goal is the sz 12 which will be by October which is my sisters Wedding. Then I guess I want to look even better for Christmas!

Lilias is Calorie King affordable? I don't know much about counting Calories but a friend does it through a personal trainer and I think she keeps her's below 2000 and she is not BF. It could be 1500 or 1800 even. I'll ask her when I speak to her. Its to achieve a 500gram loss a week which is sensible.

Vixstar, everything you eat has calories, it's the energy that makes up all foods and beverages (except water, that is calorie free). It's just that some foods and drinks are better than others. When Mildez said she's eating 0-point veggie soups, I think it's in reference to Weight Watchers and the way they calculate points (or how healthy and good for you) meals and foods are. Weight Watchers deems most veggies to be point free foods because they are better for you than not. So she's eating a soup that is likely to be made with whole veggies and no foods that have points allocated to them, like meat/pasta/ect... (lol, that's sounding a bit cofuzzling...sorry!)

But foods that are bad for you like chocolate and chips are said to have 'empty calories' because they're not really nutritious at all. You can have a chocolate bar for say 300 calories, and it won't be much of a snack or meal, without much nutrition, you would feel hungry in no time because there is nothing much in it but sugar which doesn't make your tummy feel full. Or you can have say a 300- calorie low-fat cheese and salad wholegrain sandwich, which would have all of the vitamins, fibre, calcium and other nutritious benefits in it, be more satisfying and make you feel fuller longer. Does that make sense??

Calorie King is a great site, it has heaps of other info in it other than just the calorie counting stuff.

I'm another one who's using CK... it's my threat lol. If I don't lose much weight I have to track the calories of my food (which I hate doing & find too time consuming). Like Lilias said, it's a great kick-starter and helps you realise where you might be consuming too much. Most of the time (last 2 months) it's working well as a threat for me and I just dip in occasionally to check where I could improve my eating... for e.g. I realised last week I'd started to have too many high calorie drinks & a bit too much chocky. My calorie allowance per day (BF'ing) is 1880... and when I realise that i'm "spending" 500-600 cals/day on snacks I know I have to be careful. My DH has also done his profile (he's a tall/big feller) and he gets 2000 a day. Once i'm not BF'ing, my cals are 500 a day less which is waaaaaaay harder. That means really no naughties at all!

JBM - congrats on your PG!

Vixstar - like I said it can be a PITA, and a bit confusing to start with, but I tried WW the other year then went to CK cos it was free. I think the CK system is not quite as good but it still gets you on the right track which is all that matters. I found it took a lot of the emotion out of my eating and just turned it into a mathematical equation.. i.e. I've got 100cal left at 9pm what food shall I spend it on. I found I lose weight better doing WW or CK than I ever had before and understood WHY I had gained weight earlier.

Wow, that's not much!! You will have to eat rather healthily to maintain that....and you must be pretty tiny!

CK definitely helped me lose weight in the past - I can only speak positively of it (other than be wary of their forums).

I recommend it for all my pt clients to use too!

I thought of my calorie expenditure like a monetary budget. I had to pick and choose what I ate carefully so I could stretch it out over each day. So I ate lots of fruit and veggies - that can only be a good thing !
