Asked to bring Christmas nibblies - any ideas?

We have 3 Christmas lunches this year, my mums side on Christmas eve, DFs family on Christmas day, and my dads side on boxing day.

My contribution to my mum (dessert) and dads (salads) lunches is covered but MIL has asked if we could being 'nibblies' up on Christmas day.

First thing I think of is crackers and dip, but I'd really like to make something too. It would have to be prepared a few days before (for about 20 people). The things that I think of are too desserty for nibblies I think.

    Any ideas?

I tend to do dip, pâté, biscuits, kabana and cheese etc (doing for in laws for tomorrow as well as a desert)

    But you could make mini
    Quiches/frittata
    Zucchini slice
Pin wheels (puff pastry with really anything I tend to feta and spinich or bacon BBQ and cheese. Roll up, brush with egg and slice up and put in oven)
    Sausage rolls

if you're specifically wanting to make things, you could do pinwheels, vol-au-vents, mini quiches, or mini kebabs (with cantelope and proschuto (sp?), or bacon and prunes, or cheese and kabana and ****tail onion, or tomato and basil and boccachino (sp?) or whatever ...

if you're happy for it to be more laid back, you can do what I'm doing:-

    1. one platter with different nuts and mixed fruits
    2. one platter with different shaped pretzels and crackers and cheese cubes
    3. one big bowl with mixed christmas coloured lollies (spearmint leaves, jaffas, and white chocolate balls) with some chocolate and marshmallow santas thrown in
    4. one big bowl of veggie sticks (carrot, celery and capsicum) with two dips.

    My plate would normally include:

    A blue cheese
    Brie or Camembert
    A sharp bitey cheddar
    A Gouda, Edam or Swiss
    Quince or spiced pear paste
    Grapes
    Melon
    Wafers/Crackers
    Beetroot dip
    Olive dip
    Fetta stuffed green olives
    Marinated button mushrooms
    Grilled capsicum
    Grilled eggplant
    Pâté
    Figs

Zucchini slice cooked into little 'frisbees' using round based patty pans or mini muffin tins.

You can make them a day or two in advance, serve them on a round platter with a ramekin of sweet chilli sauce in the middle.

Use the Chocolate Fudge recipe from BB, roll the fudge into balls rather than cut it into squares and coat with chocolate sprinkles. Mmmm yum.

I love mini quiches too, as well as cheese and pineapple on a stick. Especially if all the sticks are stuck into a potato. I mean, its supposed to be retro stylie this year, right?

A cob loaf dip is a good idea too - there are a few threads around with recipes on them, will hunt them down for you if you like.

These sounds DELISH!!! Do you just put the cheese and stuff in the middle of the square and let the pastry puff around it?

They sound like something I might make as a snack this afternoon to see how they go yummy lol

I made these canapes for my sister hens day & the best thing is they can be served hot or cold:

1 sheet Puff Pasty, partially thawed
    16 small cherry tomatoes
    125g goats cheese
    Salt & pepper
    16 fresh basil leaves

Cut puff pastry into 16 squares and place/push down each square into a greased patty cake tin (or muffin tin works fine)
Place equal amounts of the goats cheese on top of the pasty then top with a tomato
Bake at 180 degrees for 15 to 20 mins until the pastry is browned, top with fresh basil leaves

I think feta would be really good in them - I don't have any of that either though lol

In the fridge at the moment I have mozzarella, cheddar, and Philly (stuff to make the cob loaves ).

Actually maybe the cob loaf filling would go really good in the middle of them *shrugs*

I am so un-creative in the kitchen lol I never take any risks with anything
