What is the best way to lose weight? Do you think it is to join weight watchers etc or those milkshakes or just figure it out yourself. I am talking about changing lifestyle not just fad diets.
I would need recipe ideas and helpful guides about what food is good etc
Sheer determination, balanced diet, LESS sugar than what you're having now, a bit more exercise (but you don't have to do it) and an avoidance of cakes, sweets, pastries etc. All those things that you WERE eating that you didn't need each day. ALL ADD UP.
I have lost 5kg from just doing this. When I go to the bakery I no longer grab a cream bun, I no longer drink yummy iced coffee drinks I love, I no longer buy chocolates at the supermarket.... ALL of this adds up.
Good luck - It's hard I know!!! I have a LONG way to go myself.....
I occasionally have a tiny piece of chocolate or a little sip of my daughters juice or milk drink, things like that..... little bits here and there instead of devouring a WHOLE chocolate in one sitting.
oh and breastfeeding too helps me!!! it really has to be a lifestyle change for it to work. I have done the shakes diets before, lost heaps of weight but piled it back on......shake diets are a SHORT TERM fix.
If you are unsure what a balanced diet consists of or how to exercise effectively seek assistance from people who can teach you these things.
Fernwood Gym has the Foxy challenge on at the moment which includes some food coaching.
Michelle Bridges has a 12 week body challenge that includes exercise programs and diet tips. She also has a book. In 12 weeks you should learn enough to have a better diet and a more active lifestyle.
Exercise can be fun - playing ball in the park is exercise, so is dancing.
It really is that simple. I did weight watchers many years ago and whilst it worked, and the results lasted for a few years... as soon as I stopped calorie counting I piled every single kilo back on.
This week I started a new regime. Ban junkfood from my house and replace it with fruit. So far so good. When I'm absolutely dying for a snack, instead of reaching for the chocolate and letting the fruit go rotten I have no choice. Fruit it is! And now that DS is at an age where he's trying to steal anything in my hand, it's better that I eat things I can give him. I'm not up for the tantrums when I have to yank my cheeseburger away from him, nor the tummyache from devouring it in 2 seconds flat to keep it from him
I asked my dr about this and he told me - no bread, no pasta, no rice, no potatoes, no biscuits, no cakes, no sugar, watch fat content. He told me that diet is 90% food related and 10% exercise related.
I'm starting this week so I have to stay strong. Fingers crossed for me ladies
Grab a CSIRO book read it and follow it. Seriously I did calorie king last year and yes I lost around the 10kg in 3-4 months but I was constantly having to calorie count, where as with the CSIRO diet it goes on portion sizes and units allowed in a day and I'm never hungry. It's all about moderation
Seriously, eat lots of fresh, unprocessed foods eg fruits, vegetables, meats. Cook without much fat/oil, use herbs/seasonings for flavor. Limit high fat, sugar, processed foods.
As someone who hasn't been able to do much exercise for close to five years and has lost 12kg despite having two children, it's about being realistic. Eat more healthy, exercise more (if you can) - as the others have said. Avoid all the empty calories like chocolate, alcohol etc.
I eat what I like. I don't do low fat anything. I still eat bread, pasta, rice, potatoes, cakes but I eat smaller portions.
You can train your tummy to feel fuller on less. If you eat less for a few days (and I DON'T mean skipping meals), your tummy naturally feels fuller on less.
My standard meals are: porridge for breakfast, meat and salad sandwich for lunch, meat and three veg for dinner. Obviously, I have variations on that otherwise it would get boring but it's key for me to have a filling breafast.
If I had to choose between ww and shakes, I would do ww. Shakes are still fad diet in my eyes.
I agree with everyone else, and I will admit that I just joined ww online, and its helping me gain an understanding of what is a good choice etc..
Im hoping to use it as a stepping stone to a better choices
Calorie King!!! So much easier to follow than WW and it's free. I lost 25 kg using CK and I've never looked back. What is best is that you tailor the program around your lifestyle so for example if you know you have a party you can work out your eating plan to include it. CK also has lots of recipes, info & a member chat section so that you can talk to others in the same position.
Any of the advice above. The trick is finding what works for YOU!
For me, calorie counting does my head in. I much better watching portions and limiting carby foods. So for me, TWD or the 1 Million Kilo Challenge meal plans (which is based on Weight it Up), seems to work for me.
Planning helps, having idea for the day or the week. So knowing if I want rice with dinner, then no bread with lunch. Also means there is less chance to slip and grab the easy foods which are not good for me.
mel, there is a two week free trial with ww, have a look in this area for a thread I started about it. or google ww promo codes. As least that will give you an idea of what to expect before having to spend money
