I just have to share with you what a terrible mummy I am. Dion was just starting to move into his cot ( late I know) then he's got sick again, with the horrible chest, I am neurotic, coz of the times he stopped breathing, so has been back in the bassinette in my room. This morning, he got hold of the sides and sat himself up, so there he was sitting there looking at me. Needless to say, he's in his cot as we speak. Just had to fess up!
Kate I think it was you asking about feeds, sorry I dont know, Dion has only been having solids once a day til yesterday, but due to crappy breathing is on and off the boob 5-6 times a day, depending on how well he fed at each feed.
Kate, Pup is on only 1 feed a day atm but I reckon this will increase in the next week or so. MCHN told me the other day that most nutrition up to 12 months should come from milk, so if the bubs are starting to knock back the milk, then reduce the amount of solids they are getting to make sure that they keep their milk up. But on the same token, she told me that Pup should be quickly moving to have up to 4 tablespoons of food a day, so it is a little confusing! I gather that they should try and keep their milk intake the same (ie don't drop a bottle before 12 months) and gradually increase their food intake. So in the end, they eat more 'food' in total.
Now in saying this, I am breastfeeding totally (no supplementary bottles or formula) so I'm not sure if the advice is the same for bottle fed bubs. Sometimes feeding advice is different depending on bottle or boob fed. Maybe someone else can comment???
As for pg testing without AF.....well, I'm not, so I don't know how I would know if I were up the duff. Someone suggested that I test once a month to just see. Maybe that's the only way???? anyone else got any suggestions?????
Bel, I just looked at your website and Coby certainly does not have goggle eyes!! I don't know what that girl was talking about. At various times, babies look a little out of proportion as they grow....some of Pup's photos certainly don't do him justice when I look back on them. Now Marty Feldman.....HE has goggle eyes (do a google search on the name if you are usnsure who he is...you'll know as soon as you see him!!)
Pup is a bit smallish for his age as well. he is under all the averages...but they catch up. At 6 months he is 6.9kg. Can't remember his cms (can find out if you like).
Deb, glad to hear you're having a great time back hom in Aust!!!
Just wanted to add Al's feeding as well. He is on 3 solid meals a day. That is a few tablespoons for each feed and is loving that. And is still drinking BB juice more than ever. Average feeds are at around 7am 10am 2pm 5pm 7pm (100 mls formula) 11pm and 3am!!!!!!!! Far out, he is a gutsface, isn't he!! That is 7 milk feeds a day! Now that is not what the text books say, but he is happy as a lamb so what can I do? My sisters say he should be on 3 feeds a day of milk, but I can't imagine it.
Hey Kate/Fletch - isn't it funny that the girl who said it to us has big boggle eyes herself, and both her kids when they were babies had the biggest googly eyes you've ever seen. But of course no-one ever said it to her in case they offended here, pity she doesn't think the same way as others. In fact her son was so bad, he looked like Uncle Fester!! tee he he, now Im just being a *****!!
I have big eyes too, and Coby has my big eyes, and like you Fletch, I always get comments on how nice my eyes are! Stuff her! She's just jealous!! \/
Deb, I don't think that 3 milk feeds would be enough? I'm no expert, but I would think that up to 12 months of age, the bubs would be on 5 milk feeds (either bottle or boob) a day plus their "solids". Well, that's what I'm intending to do anyway. If you're happy with the 7 milk feeds (mainly the 2 late at night) then I don't see any harm. It would only be a problem if you were not happy with having to get up or feed very late.
Because Pup sleeps through (12 hours a night) he roughly feeds at 7am/10am/1pm (this feed also includes solids)/4.30pm/7.30pm. Of course, these feeds can vary by anywhere up to an hour depending on the day and how big his naps might be.
Yep I agree Hayseed. I think 3 would not be enough for Al anyway. He demands it and I am not into arguing with him about it. It is no problem for me to feed him during the night, I am so used to it and it takes 5 - 10 minutes and he is sleeping again. I guess at some stage we will try just giving him water at night, but while we're travelling, now isn't the time to change things.
Happy 6 months birthday today Kelsey! (Al's is tomorrow yay!)
Wow Brooke, I can't believe that Maya is doing all that! She's very advanced indeed!!
Coby is on three meals a day and has been for about a month now, he just wasn't putting on the weight because of his vomitting (Kate I know you know what Im talking about here...). He is trying hard to talk and crawl but it won't be happening for a while yet, I can tell. His teeth are still trying to break through, isn't it awful.
Kate - IKWYM about the smelling like spew, isn't it just lovely. My hubby came home a while ago and I said to him, can you smell my new perfume - and he put his nose up to my neck to smell, and he said (with nose screwed up) what is it? My response - Au de vomi` :smt016
My whole house is covered in vomit, including me, the dog and the cats. It stinks!! We are going to the paediatrician on Thursday (a new one) who's supposed to be the "guru" when it comes to reflux so hopefully he can give me something to stop the vomitting. Coby has never had pain with the vomitting but oh my god, he vomits sooooo much, its soooo annoying!! He's on Zantac and it hasn't stopped the vomitting either - I thought it was supposed to???
Hay and Deb - Coby has been on 4 bottles a day for 2 months or more, they are supposed to be having at least 800mls per day at this stage, so if that means they can have 4 bottles and finish them all, then great. I think in a few more months (say at 9 months) you can drop back to 3 bottles a day (along with their three meals a day). But if they are only having say 160ml per feed, then you will have to up their bottles and still give 5 a day, but the general rule is about 800mls per day at this stage (ps - that includes the liquids they get from their food too - but I don't incorporate that because you don't know what liquids they are getting from their foods really).
Sorry for lack of personals, trying to get out to go for a walk (losing some kgs)[/img]
hi all i'm a bit saw MCHN today (have posted in breastfeeding) but oscar has dropped a percentile and is only on the 3rd percentile from 10th. he gained 755 grams in 9 weeks so he is just under 6.3kg. the MCHN was suggesting he should be on 3 meals a day and eating a cupful at each meal. there is no way he can do that. anyway i think i am over it now. from now on i am wagging - not going anymore. lucky she didn't start on the immunisations then i would have really flipped
hope everyone is well i just can't keep up for personals i am sorry.
kate oscar did have his half b'day and it was great hope kelsey enjoys hers as much today! and bel WTF with that chick saying googly eyes! he is sooooo cute. ignore her!
A CUPful! As in a normal cup (250ml)?? Three times a day? Pup wouldn't be doing that either!! How many of our bubs would?? Pup is also in a low percentile, but keep in mind that the percentiles are based on bottle fed babies, not breastfed ones. The charts make BFed babies look a little light on. Apparently breast fed charts are coming out very soon.
Bloody hell....Maya is doing brilliantly!! Speaking! Crawling! Soon she's be driving!! LOL
Nothing much from us. Very boring these past few days....
Beckles that's absurd that she would expect your bub to have a cupful at each sitting, that's just plain ridiculous!! Coby has a jar of cereal and fruit in the morning, half to sometimes a full jar of fruit puree at lunch, and he has about three to four tablespoons of vegies plus some dessert at night. He is having 4 bottles a day.
Don't worry, Coby has always been below the bottom percentile thingy, and Hayseed is right, those charts are for bottle fed bubs and not breast fed babies. Coby's weight gain was always frowned upon because he never made it up on the chart and didn't progress into the so called "normal" grey area. What a crock! My theory is if they are happy and seem to be progressing mentally etc, then they are fine.
Brooke - yeah, these kgs are just not budging. I am the weight that I was pre-pregnancy, but I feel flabby or something. I think I was this weight because I was on fertility drugs and Im pretty sure I should be at least 5 kgs lighter. Fingers crossed that this works. Good luck with yours. What are you doing to lose it? Im just walking and doing a few light weights....
Hey Brooke, that's funny that Maya is only just sitting but she's doing all that other stuff. Coby's been sitting for about a month now, so perhaps the crawling won't be far off, I think he's nearly there now, he's shuffling...
Now sleep  - that is my least favourite topic of Coby's because he never wants to sleep during the day. At night he is fine, goes down about 6 and gets up at 6 in the morning. He stays in all night and no probs there, but during the day is a different story altogether. He will not sleep, and as much as I try to calm him and settle him, he throws his legs up in the air and slams them down on the mattress, or swings his head from side to side to keep himself awake, he's a little bugga!! I've literally tried everything from relaxing music, to letting him have a bit of a cry while he self settles, but that never happens, he just gets even more worked up. So I just bought the Baby Whisperer book and Im trying to get some tips from that. They don't recommend controlled crying or "crying it out" as they put it. And I don't like controlled crying either, I think it makes the baby think that we're not there for them, that they can't rely on us. So they use a method of pick up put down, which means that you can pick them up to settle if they are inconsolable, but you must put them straight back down the second they stop crying, and you have to keep going until you can get them to sleep. Their record is over an hour. Most babies only take about 20 minutes to go to sleep. I would recommend this book, Im only part way through, but already it makes alot of sense to me.... It even delves into what personality your child has, and Coby falls under the "spirited" catagory....I'll tell you more about that later if anyone wants to know....
All I can say is good luck and I hope you do better than I have with Coby xx tee he he!!
PS: I can't believe Coby will be 7 months on Thursday - where has that time gone?
Brooke/Kate - we are on the same wave length I think when it comes to how we are going to deal with our babies. No controlled crying here, I couldn't stand it if someone did it to me. How would you feel if you were crying to your husband about something and he just got up and walked out of the room and locked you in there to cry it out on your own. When they are crying they need us for something, even if its just a quick cuddle for comfort. Poor little darlings, we are the only things they know and trust in this new world, so why would we abandon them?
Yes I too hate it when people say "you're making a rod for your own back" hmmmphh - I don't care what they say anymore, its my child and I'll raise him and deal with him how I see fit, and more importantly, what suits him!
So Brooke, this Gina Ford, what's the book called? Perhaps I should read it too??? What does she suggest? What are her tactics?
Coby has been rolling from his front to his back for ages now, since he was about 3 months old, but he has only just learnt to roll from his back to his tummy and he does it in bed, Im scared he will end up sleeping on his stomach - has anyone else had this happen?
Hope all you mummas and bubbas are having a great day
xx
Hey girls just a quick post as im at MIL in byron on dial up, so very very slow!!
Love to you all!!
I love the baby whisperer too (and maybe im a bit slow but did you guys know she died in late 2004 of melanoma?? Very sad as i think she was an absolute gem!
We never CC either im with all that you guys have already said and i like kate and bel dont tell people either as i get the same negative feedback from people. Hendrix has been magic so far and we have done lots of traveling and meeting of his millions and millions of relations!!
Girls, I need help - Coby is sleeping on his stomach, I just went in and checked. We have one of those Angel Care monitors so it will beep if he stops breathing or anything, but should I leave him there? What about SIDS??
thanks Kate I'll give the fastening thing a go, I don't want to go back to wrapping him, he's too hot to wrap. Im really not comfortable with him sleeping on his tummy, I guess I'll just have to move him...
