get yourself on a regular probiotic (can get them from the chemist or look at the stuff on here - think it's en-liven fast track) - the pg is obviously causing you some issues with hormonal balance

i would also be VERY careful using the one day pessaries - they're not recommended during pregnancy - the six day canasten course is the only one recommended when ttc or pg

...really, gosh i used them once in pg #3 and twice in this pregnancy....two different pharmacists too.....i obviously look very pregnant when buying them too...infact the pharmacist from a few weeks ago was pregnant herself and said it was ok, as long as i dont go too far.....

So do you think 3 bouts of thrush is a lot ??? Im worried now....

3 occurences in six months even when not pg is something a gp should be investigating

Mbear, best advice I can give is to get rigorous about a low-GI diet...good in PG anyway. I find when I get thrush it's always a sign that the white bread has gotten away from me. It's worth reading a little more about GI because it doesn't always make sense, ie wholemeal bread can be as high as white bread, you've got to go chunky grains all the way. Hope that helps, it must be driving you crazy.

Hun i swear i had it every day of my pregnancy with Zachery...i just couldnt get rid of it....(and i never had it at all with the girls....just the boy )

As for the 1 day treatment...i used that too...cleared it up good and proper....for about a week..then it returned. In the end i lived on the Canesten cream...i kept them in business with buying lots of boxes!

I tried stopping suger, white bread, eating new foods...you name it..nothing worked or got rid of it...EXCEPT..giving birth!

Cassie your not nieve (but just lucky to not have had it, or you may not have been aware you have!)

Increased cervical fluid production is common during pregnancy, you may notice thin, milky discharge which is a result of your body’s hormones doing their job. If you notice that the discharge becomes thick, white and creamy (like cottage cheese) and if you have itching in your vaginal area, you may have thrush. Some women notice a stinging or burning sensation on the labia during urination and others feel the same unpleasant sensations during sexual intercourse.
Symptoms include an itchy vulva and a red vagina that may be sore or bleeding.

After you go to the loo, everytime, wipe yourself with some apple cider vinegar on a damp cloth/toilet paper.
I also had a bath with a good splash of it in the water and soaked for a good half hour.

Was the only thing that got rid of my thrush while pg

I've heard that eating yohgurt also helps (and is healthy for you - lots of calcium). It has those bugs that tend to balance out the thrush.

Canesten is also a God send. Stops the itch that day for me. Nothing worse than when you're trying to hold your dignity in public and just want to scratch!! Wouldn't be socially acceptable I would have thought. I actually always get it around where the elastic is on my undies. I don't know why there, I suppose some rubbing exposes the area.

Maybe start having some yoghurt for brekkie. I've started doing that and haven't seen thrush since. If not for brekkie I have yoghurt as a topping on some vanilla ice cream. YUM!!

Thanks girls...the canestan worked a treat

MD - interesting about the white bread....i have been eating that for lunch of late. Infact im almost +ve its my diet. Im getting to that slack stage, im so tired and busy all the time, a white cheese sandwich, or a cupcake sometimes suffice for lunch..... Thanks.....

Maybe start having some yoghurt for brekkie.
.....ahhh you read my mind....im heading into coles tomorrow, and buying a 12 pack of ski yoghurt (only type i like.....).

Cass_Blob - no worries hun. I agree with Lilmunckins you are soooo fortunate never to have had it, let alone know about it. Fingers crossed.

And Lil Munchinks.....what else can i say, your like my twin but in another state.

You can actually apply plain natural yougurt only ,to your Vaginal area as well, you don`t have to eat it to get all the benefits. I found it`s best applied at bed time, laying down of cause, then you can use a small hand towel or old face washer to hold it in,lol.
Just don`t leave it in the fridge where anyone else will eat it,

ifeel so sorry for you sweetheart!

Try inner health plus. It will be great for your insides as well as helping things in that department too. Will be great for bubs also

But I would definitely be seeing your GP if it flares up again. It could be more than just thrush which may require antibiotics or similar.

eta: a trick my mum taught me years ago, was to sit in a shallow bath full of salt, and keep splashing it in and around the "area"

Don't feel embarrassed Cass. First time I got it, the midwife in the ward had to tell me after DS2, and that was ONLY because I asked her what the oral drops they were giving my DS were for. TBH, the way she said "coz you have thrush luv" was so demoralising. It was a shared room - I had NO idea what it was, and she spoke down to me like I was some unclean thing.

The real problem was, absolutely NO ONE told me what it was or how I could identify it so when I got it again with this one, I still kept thinking it was perfectly normal. I've never had any of the itching or burning, and even the discharge has been quite sedate. Then this time round it got for lack of a better term - chunkier - and that was when I finally found out exactly what it was.

Aw mBear, you poor thing! I HATE thrush and have been fortunate this pregnancy to not have had it.
I agree with both the yoghurt recommendations (i.e. eat it and apply the plain stuff locally!). Also, my sister (who lives in the tropics) swears by having yakult every day (and it has to be that brand - the cheaper stuff doesn't work). I think that is ok to have during pregnancy... That's if you'd like an alternative to a daily pro-biotic tab. It is basically the same thing, though.
Other thing is to wear a skirt and go knicker-less for a while every day or two (Obviously while you are at home, unless you're feeling adventurous, LOL!)
Cass - don't stress, mate. The first time I got it I knew something was wrong only because the itching was driving me NUTS! If you don't get that symptom, then as inertia has said, it's hard to know that something's wrong.
And Mags, I am so sorry you were treated that way - that's horrid!
