Bumpity-bump!!
I'm looking for a really good skin care regime and want to know which one is better...
Miessence or Dermalogica?
A lovely BBer recommended Miessence because it's organic and made of all natural products which I LOVE. But will it be enough if my acne suddenly errupts? I've used the Dermalogica Clearing Booster before and it worked wonders but I'm not sure about their skin care regime as a whole - is it similar to Proactive in any way? (That stuff destroyed my skin).
Would love to hear from people who have used both - and which one is more effective in keeping pimples and acne at bay.
TIA!

Gosh it's tempting to leave this unanswered just to see you kill your own thread PMSL!
I haven't used either.. but I can vouch for handmade soaps (and I would think the same of any non-chemical soap/cleanser) for clearing up DH's awful awful acne. He makes his own soap and hasn't had a problem since.
So I'd go for whichever has the least chemical sounding ingredients! It'd probably be miessence. The main culprit that people avoid is SLS (sodium lauryl/laureth sulphate) which is a surfactant, this strips the skin. There are so-called plant-derived surfactants.. but you're best to even avoid them. Best thing is to get a soap (I know.. the word soap has been sullied by horrible commercial soaps with loads of crap in them.. REAL soap won't hurt your skin) that is full of lovely natural oils and use a natural moisturiser too. DH has never looked back, and friends with acne & eczema etc have used his soap with success too. (we used to sell soaps but we're too lazy to do all the work anymore LOL)
I use Dermalogica and love it. I use the normal-oily skin range and I find you don't have to use very much at all to get results. My beautician put me onto this as since I've had Emily, I've been getting breakouts often.
I use the cleanser, toner, moisturiser & mask.
I've never used Proactive, so can't compare on the 2. But Dermalogica has been very gentle on my skin.
I am a miessence girl through and through and I sell the product..........as a therapist, I have found a lot of the acne and skin problems to be as a result of the commercial products being so harsh on the skin. They are so full of synthetic chemicals that go through the skin and your body is unable to remove them all so they build up. The synthetic parabens alone are now being discovered accummulated in breast tumours. This has been put down more to deoderants than cosmetics but the fact is the chemicals from the cosmetics still enter the body unheeded. At least when you eat crap chemicals the liver gets a crack at removing the crap.....when it goes through the skin, is gets into the body unchecked.
And yes it is a small amount.....but a small amount every day for the rest of our lives. I believe it adds up over time. I also believe that the synthetics eventually age us faster and cause us to buy higher priced anti-aging products. Great commerical marketing system!
Another thing I think about - do I want to be washing that cleanser into the sink and waterways? I want to do the best I can for the next generation - we are leaving them with some serious environmental issues to sort out and every little bit we do helps out.
I would recommend that you at least try miessence first - you can buy the travel size so you can try at a small cost. If you really don't like it, then switch, but give the company that is doing their best by us a first choice.
Miessence also offers 14 day money back guarantee - you don't like the product, the smell, the feel or you react in some way.......just return it and get your money back - I don't think many (are the any?) commercial companies that offer that sort of guarantee.
I'm a miessence user and it has done wonders for my skin, really cleared up my acne and I love that it has no chemicals in it.
Ok I think I've decided on miessence!
I'm going to start with their travel size pack (to trial it) and I'm wondering whether I should go for the Balancing or the Purifying pack. Right now my skin is relatively clear with only a few spots around AF time.
BUT when I go off the pill next month it's likely my acne will flare up. Should I just go with the purifying?
Also, is there a bodywash that I can use in the miessence range that will help with acne on my back?
Hey there, the difference between the two products is that one is a natural and organic product (miessence) where as dermalogica is a professional skin care range.
BAsically, the active ingredients in dermalogica are designed to TREAT more so than miessence, where the ingredients are natural and aim to improve skin by cleaning, cleansing and purifying with organic ingredients.
While you may see quicker results with a professional product, long term use of a natural product if you use it regually should still help clear the skin.
Proactive is really nasty for you skin.
I start everyone one balancing as often skin issues are caused by the original products used. People tell me they have sensitive or oily skin but it is usually the skins' reaction to the products used. I have onky had to move one client to purifying after starting her on balancing.
So start with that. If the acne does flare up, then go purifying but you may not need to. The travel size lasts a a good few weeks - I think 3 to 4 weeks from memory at twice a day usage so you should almost be finished by the time you hop back on the pill.
And any recommendations for something I can use on my back?
Sunflower Body Wash
I also use it as an alternative to bubblebath for the kids, much better for their skin than other crap.
You can see the whole range at: ONEgroup

Great thanks Kel!
It's payday and DH is happy for me to spend up!!! He made a good point - I told him I didn't want to use anything like Proactive again and told him about Miessence - he said "Well it makes sense - the whole reason for you going off the pill is to get the chemicals out of your body. Proactive would just put them straight back in again."
Aww I love it when my husband agrees to let me spend money![]()
Yup the pill is so bad for your body, you'll feel so much better. Are you getting acupuncture to help regulate your body/cycle?

I will be Kel - I have a lap on 21st to try and see what's going on in there. They suspect endo but are not 100% sure. After the lap I will be going off the pill. Once I have some answers I will see an AP.
I wouldn't have looked into any of these alternative therapies before coming to BB. I certainly wouldn't have known how bad the pill was for my body. I have gained so much knowledge here and I think my body will be so grateful for it!!
YAY! GO the Miessence!
While you are ordering stuff, definately get soem inLiven. Getting off the pill and taking that - well, you will just be a BOOM! of a new woman
Make sure you get the mineral mask too. Maybe you should grab your DH the shaving cream? Mine absolutely loves his![]()

That's a great idea Kitt3n - although DH has the most perfect skin I've ever seen- I hope our kids get all his good genes!!
Ok so on my list I have...
Balancing Pack (travel size for now)
Sunflower Body Wash
inLiven
Shaving Cream
Mineral Mask
Anything else I must try???![]()
Kitt3n which mineral mask do you use? I'm thinking I'll just go with the balancing?
I use the purifying one. So does DH
But I guess you need to get what's best for your skin type.
I also love the pro biotic household cleaner - When I use it on the floors, the floors just feel soooo different. Definately a must for when you have a crawling baby![]()
LOL - I have been buying my stuff elsewhere for a while, I totally forgot that kelly had her own store!Sorry Kelly
