    I agree, chop it!!

Just go shoulder length to start with and add some layers. That way you can go shorter if you want to and it won't be such a drastic change if you don't like it.

I have quite short hair these days and every time I try to grow it out I just end up cutting it again. It's more manageable when it's shorter and it makes me feel older having longer hair.

Although I have annoyingly soft, silky hair (I am not being vain here, I really do and it drives me nuts) which means that while most people with my length could still tie it back, I can't. It just slips straight out again. It's the one downside to having it short. But if my hair was coarser, it would stay back.

how exciting - a new hair cut is such a refreshing change to make

i recently got my long hair all chopped off and wished i had done it years ago. i had an idea of how long i wanted it but the best thing about my haircut is i went to a good experienced hairdresser, and we discussed my hair, my crowns, my face shape, length of neck, length of hairline, how my hair behaves after a nights sleep, what i don't like about other hair cuts i have had etc and she was able to style my hair according to all its attributes and i LOVE the outcome. in fact i have had it recut shorter since as it is easier to manage than my long hair ever was and i feel much more me.

having had the same hair length and style for so long was bad as i have gotten older and changed but my hair hadn't.

good luck with whatever you choose to do.
