    Talking Cheesecake shop cakes...

ok girls, i promise this is the last post regarding my wedding!!
I'm sure you are all sick of seeing my threads taking over the general chatter section by now!!!

We're getting our wedding cake from the "cheesecake shop" near us as we've been told they are reasonably priced cakes and still pretty yummy at the same time! We have eaten cheese cakes and mudcakes from there before (love em'!) and they have always been great.
Has anyone bought their wedding cake from the cheesecake shop store or know anyone that has? Any recommendations would be great.

I have called cake specialists that i've seen in wedding guides etc and they have quoted me $700 for one cake that was small and only 2-tier cake with few decorations on it so i thought if i can show the cheesecake shop cake lady the picture she can try and "copy" it as such and make somethiing close to it for 1/3 of the price....because it's only something that gets eaten really....
BTW, we are getting a choc mud cake!!

In the cheesecake shop I go to they have the pics of ones that they have done also, not sure on the prices but it would have to be cheaper then going to a specialist. When I got my cake for my wedding, I looked throught the white pages and rang a few that were ladies working from home and found them to be cheaper as well.

    Hi Ren,

We got DD's Dedication cake from the Cheesecake shop and they did a BRILLIANT job. The down side (which wasn't a problem for me) is that we were told they can only do "approved" decorations etc as per The Cheesecake Shop Franchise agreement or they risk losing their "licence". I would suggest chatting to the shop you intend to buy it from and see what they can do and what options are available from their own designs. The one we ended up getting for DD's service was much better than anything I could have imagined and was very fitting for the occassion (there will be a pic on her site later in the week).

thanks MG, that's great feedback! Well, the cake we are going to show the cake lady there, has those little figurines of the bride and groom on top (you know the one's?) and they are very, very cute indeed (can't eat em') but unfortunately they cost about $100 each! (per figurine) so we are going to see if they can replace it with something else.. its a beach wedding, so seashells and starfish around the cake would be cute... i've seen it done before at the cheesecake shop.. they have a book with their cakes in it too to look at so might check it out.
    thanks heaps!

something to keep in mind Renee is that you can always get the Cheesecake Shop to do a really simple cake that isn't "decorated" and then add your own accessories - i was bridesmaid for a wedding, and they were working on a really tight budget. they arranged a simple cake (just a mud cake in the shape of a book with the fancy icing around the edges) and we added decoration in the form of flowers to match her bouquet and their vows printed on paper to match their invitations/place cards. by having the simple cake, you don't have to conform to their "designated" designs - you can do your own thing! good luck - and post away on the wedding things - my email addy is in my profile if you want to ask anything - managed to help friend plan her wedding on a very tight budget, and ours wasn't too expensive either cos i did everything myself! (loved every second of it too!!)

Hi, I'm not actually sure on the freshness of the ordered wedding cakes, but the cakes that you buy 'normally' are not fresh daily. They are apparently baked up to three days earlier.
Also, we left a quarter of one of the french cheesecakes in our fridge for more than three months (we weren't game to touch the box for fear of what hideous green monster had grown in there), and when we finally did take it out of the fridge, it looked and smelt as it did when we bought it. So, we don't buy cakes from there any more, rather nervous of all the preservatives that are in them. I don't mean to put you off, but I don't think that their cakes are as fresh and healthy as they make out.

hi another thing you can do is scour through local papers that get dropped into the letter box, theres usually a weding section with cake ladies and they are a bit cheaper and still wonderful!!!
you could also go to your nearest cake asessory sho they are around and they have classes there and the teachers are always qualified and they do cakes cheap too and they are professional. and they do an design you want...

you can just jump online and google in your local area - its a great alternative, and you know hte cake is fresh.. they make the cake usually the day before then ice it then decorate it for you..
    good luck!!!

Yeah I say have a look in your local papper or perhaps ring a local cake decorating school or cooking school and have a hunt around for someone who does it from home, we were in the same boat as you, we were on a tight budget but wanted something yummy that looked great, we found a lady who does cakes from home, we were quoted over $700 from other places but from her $230 so a huge drop and the cake was soooooo yummy we had a 2 teir cake with the bottom being Tirimisu and the top being choc mud and she put so much work into it and delivered it, it was also made fresh the day before.

I am not really one to love the cheesecake shop sorry but I have been disapointed by them many times in the past, but if you are happy with them then go for it, even though they are a franchise each can differ in their quality etc, their mud cakes are nice, I recomend really looking around though so that you can exactly what you want, and find a good price, sometimes an afternoon on the phone can pay off.

good luck and let us know how you go and waht you decide.

I found out the day before my wedding that my cake maker had skipped town! We went to a couple of other cake places and they weren't able to make what I wanted so we went into the cheesecake shop at about 3pm the day before the wedding.
The cake girl was just leaving, but she came back in and asked what we wanted. I had to describe it too her, it was a chocolate mud with chocolate curls and chocolate that had been cut into flat squares. So she did a two tier cake, but I think the top was probably a tier and a half by itself, she did the squares around the outside ( you know where they smooth the chocolate out on a flat suface and cut it into squares) and some beautiful BIG chocolate curls covering the top tier, she then put some gerbera's (to match my bouquet) around the base of the top tier and called us that afternoon to say it was ready!
Everyone commented on how yummy the cake was. I hadn't even thought of going to the cheesecake shop for our wedding cake, but I'm glad I ended up there.

Nic, thanks for your story! Glad to hear SOMEONE has had a good experience with the cheesecake shop... I've never had a problem with their cakes... I think it's great she put gerberas on your cake too as that happens to be the bouquet i am having for our wedding too! (pink, yellow & white one's!)... yay! they are my fav flowers too. i'll see if they can do that for our cake !!! and starfish, seashells etc.
i like how someone suggested get more of a plain cake and add our decorations to it that's also a great idea and something to consider. i might get a quote from them for just the cake plain and then the cake with their decorations see how it differs

As for the cakes not being so healthy like someone mentioned, i'm sure ALL cakes have preservatives in them and aren't that healthy for you but hey, who cares! It's a wedding right?? We are allowed to be a little naughty now and then

Like some of you mentioned, i think I might ring a few different cake places like bakeries etc and look up some on the net and call them Tues to get couple of different qoutes... probably a good idea just so i can compare.

    thanks girls

Another place you could call is your local TAFE college, my DH's great aunt use to teach cake decorating/making and she made hundreds of wedding cakes, I even saw a photo of one that had a fountain incorporated into it. Anwyay, a local tafe might be able to give you the name of any of their baking teachers.
    Goodluck
