    I Know

This has probaly been answered a million and one times but here goes. I am now 35 and my partner is younger than me. On 21st April last year we gave birth to a beautiful healthy baby boy. A few months ago my partner told me he would like another baby. Which I am quite happy to do because he is a wonderful person. I have 2 other children from a previous relationship. I had no trouble concieving my first 3 children but baby number 4 seems impossible. I did fall pregnant but had a miscarriage in March this year for which they did a d&c. I had a 7 week sac size but a 6 week size foetus. Since then we have been trying to concieve but nothing has happened. I was keeping track of my cycle but the kids have lost my calender. I am currently menstrating can you please help me work out when I will be ovulating again in idiot terms because I just can't seem to get the jist of all the techanical terms that are used. Thanks in advance.

Hi, I am so sorry for your loss and hope your TTC journey is a short one. As far as I am aware, if you know when your NEXT period is due (ie. in 28days or 30 days etc) you should ovulate around 14 days prior. It varies, but if you focus on that general time you should have your best chances.
    Hope that makes sense

An idea that a lot of people go by is to BD every second day from the end of AF until a BFP or the start of your next AF. Dr's say that most couples get a BFP within a few months of doing it this way.
    Best of luck.

Ok this is where it gets confusing for me. Because my cycle is usally 7 days so to my thinking 30 - 7 is 23. So how does the 28 day cycle work.
Ok just checked the abbrevs and all that now it makes sense. Hubby will be so happy getting it every second day. Can't complain though so will I. Thank you all for making it sound so simple for me. So far it has been 8mths and still nothing but I reckon half the fun is in trying. Cheers again.

I am no expert but if you menstrual cycle is generally 7 days long and your have 23 days in between 7+23=30 There for i would say you have a 30 day cycle (the length of your cycle includes the time you are menstruating) and you would ovulate approx 9 days after you finish your period (on day 16) or you could look at it as 14 days b4 your next one is due. However some ppl can ovulate earlier or later iykwim. Can you tell when you are ovulating due to your discharge (cm) that is one way i always know i never have to keep track of dates etc. If not maybe you could start temping etc

Your cycle is the length of time from the first day of your AF until the first day of the next AF. For many women, the common length of their cycle is 28 - 30 days. Mine is usually 30 days. Ovulation usually occurs 14 days before your AF is due, so in a 28 day cycle you will most likely ovulate on day 14. For me, because I have a 30 day cycle, I would most likely ovulate around day 16 (that is, 16 days since I first got AF). The first day of your cycle is the first day of your AF - so this is cycle day 1. The last day of your cycle is the day before you get the next AF, most commonly CD28-CD30.

When i am ovulating and most fertile (generally 48hrs or so) my CM is an egg white consistency and clear almost like a jelly consistency iykwim- sorry TMI i know. At other times in my cycle my CM has a whiter colour to it and there isnt as much of it so i can generally tell this way. Maybe you dont know what to look for cos you've never paid attention iykwim. Cant hurt to keep an eye out to see if it helps.
GL with the TTC i hope you get your soon

Ok so I will have to remember when this cycle started and go from there. Do the bd every second day and hopefully before to long BFP fingers crossed.

If you remember when the first day of your last period was, then you can work out approximately when you will ovulate. I usually number the days in my diary, so I know approximately what days I will be most fertile. If you know this, then you know when to start looking for changes in your mucus - although, I have found this to be difficult as certain things (like residual sperm from BD) can confuse it. So I usually just use my calendar as a guide. If you want more accurate info, you could buy an ovulation predictor kit from the chemist, which will tell you when you are ovulating for sure.

Ok here's another question. I usually get pretty horny the day before my cycle starts. Is this just my hormones or am I ovulating or what. I know I'm 35 with three kids so I don't know much the only one of my pregnany's that was planned was our last little boy all the other times it has just happened.

I am not really sure of your question...

If you have a 30 day cycle that means your cycle day 1 is the first day of your period. On a 30 day cycle in a perfect world you would ovulate 14 days prior to your next bleed.

However, that is not an accurate & may be an ineffective way to TTC.

Have a read of "The Billings Method" and get to know your body - your cervical mucous changes throughout your cycle. When your body begins to get ready for conception your cervical mucous changes to look a lot like egg white - slippery and very wet. This is the mucous needed to carry the sperm up into the tubes waiting for your follicle to rupture with a lovely ovum! Your mucous will change dramatically after your fertile window closes back to thicker, whiter mucous.

You can take your basal temperature evry day before rising and chart it - fertility friend have some great tools to have a look at - just google it.

You can use OPK's or "ovulation predictor kits. They look like a pregnancy test and are used to detect your LH surge. This surge occurs just prior to ovulation and causes the follicle to rupture and release your ovum... So using these can show you your really fertile window.

2nd daily BD can get really really really draining and tiresome (trust me I have done it ) and is unnecessary if you get to know your body. This frees you up to enjoy making love.

    Goodluck on your journey...
