Post When can i try again after miscarriage?

    Hi everyone,

I'm new to this and not so sure how it all works.... however I have finally found a way to open a new thread.

I am 35 and have only recently miscarried (2 days ago!!).

Fortunately it was very early on at almost 6 weeks. I'm bleeding quite heavily and have been told that I won't require a D & C (I think it's called) as the bleeding will remove everything. My Dr (didn't quite make it to see OB as yet) said I can try again any time. Does anyone know when I can start trying? Is this bleeding classified as Day 1 of a period and therefore possible ovulation would occur in approx 2 weeks? Is it too soon to start trying in 2 weeks again? or is there a certain amount of time that is required to wait?

If anyone has any knowledge on this subject - I'd appreciate it. This is very unknown to me and I have no idea.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read/respond!

I'm so very sorry for your loss.

Its pretty much up to you when you feel ready to TTC again. But the bleeding does not count as a period and you probably won't ovulate again until your HCG levels return to 0, which can take several weeks. Some doctors will advise waiting 2-3 cycles before trying again and some will say there is no reason to wait. Waiting until after the first period will allow the next pregnancy to be dated. But really, its up to you when you feel ready once this bleeding stops.

    I hope this helps.

    Sorry about your miscarriage

Yes doctors have different opinions on when it's 'safe' to try again, but in most cases the only reason to wait is so you can emotionally recover, and to date any new pregnancy.

It may be 6 or so weeks before you have a period again, and the bleeding from the miscarriage doesn't count as a period. You could ovulate any time this month and could conceive. I conceived my son the day after my miscarriage (8 weeks) ended - the same can happen to you.

Thank you so much for the replies. It was very helpful to have responses. Emotionally I'm OK about it (most likely because it happened so quickly; both the pregnancy and the miscarriage, so I barely had time to get used to the idea!). Yes... it was sad when it happened, however I'm grateful that we'd already booked in for holidays to the Gold Coast and so was able to get away and enjoy the sunshine!

Good to know that conception can occur quickly and more importantly lead to a child (Congratulations on yours Gabi)

    Thank you!

    Hiya!

When I saw the OB after my second miscarriage, he recommended waiting three months to let the uterus heal. I got pregnant and miscarried a few weeks in, then had a period at the normal time, then got pregnant again and lost that one as well very early. Two miscarriages in ten weeks--it's been a rough couple of months!

Anyway, that's what a doctor told me, just thought I would pass it on....

    Wink

I am so glad that I found this site.

DH and I have been TTC for 6 years and I have had severe endometriosis and blocked tubes which have been "fixed". We were about to start FSH injections and were waiting on my next period when I found out that I was pregnant last wednesday. Unfortunately I miscarried on sunday and am devastated.

We have an appointment with our FS on monday to chat about what next but I am hoping that I am more fertile now and might not need the FSH injections.

I'll get to the point though.

I too am wondering when will be good to start trying again. I guess that I will be able to chat to my FS about that on monday but I just wondered what other people had been told.

Just wanted to add for anyone else who may have the same questions, that my IVF nurse said, yes, we are fine to try straight away, while waiting for our next IVF cycle...no physical dramas

The last few replies to this thread have given me real hope.

I am hoping that it happens again quickly for DH and I. The miscarriage was only last sunday but by the sounds of things there is no harm in trying again while we wait for our fertility cycle to come round.

    Thanks guys

Unhappy I miscarried the day after my 27th birthday....

Hi I'm Leslie, and I had a miscarriage on November 30th the day after my 27th birthday.
This was my first pregnancy and I was nervous at first and then a little miserable because I was having a lot of the symptoms and you know your like "ughh, I feel like crap today", but you still love being pregnant and love knowing your going to have a little one soon, and happy with that. But then the worst thing happened.
I wasn't sure what was happening until I started bleeding and having really bad labor pains. It has been the most painful experience of my entire life.
I was 16 weeks along and I was so excited that I was pregnant, something I wanted for the last 3 years. My husband is in the army so I had to wait for when he was going to be home for us to get pregnant and also him to be here for the whole pregnancy (which he really wanted to be here for).
So we had gone to the Dr. about 2 weeks before and no problems were found; we had a sonogram done and the nurse who has done this job for 20 plus years said she thought we were having a boy! My husband and I were so excited because all we wanted were little boys. Well, were going to have a little boy until that Sunday morning I woke up feeling bloated and I thought it was just gas, but I was wrong. The labor pains progressively got worse and I told my husband there was something wrong. I was in so much pain I could hardly move. I tried to control my breathing to get through the contractions, to say the least it was very hard.
Finally I started to feel the pain lessen after about 6 hours of pain. Then my water broke. I will never forget that. And then our son was born... but he was too young to survive outside of my womb. He was only 16 weeks and there was nothing I or my husband could of done to save him.
My husband called our emergency doctor's number at the special birthing center we have in our town and they told him we had to cut the umbilical cord and separate the baby from me and bring us into the birthing center. I was in such shock, I mean I was holding our son hoping to see some sign of life in his little body and there was none.
My husband rushed us to the hospital where the nurses and doctor took very good care of me. I spent about 12 hours there waiting for my placenta to separate from me, but it didn't so I had to have a D&C surgery to remove the tissue. I was sent home shortly after the surgery.
I was off from work about two weeks and the whole time I couldn't be left alone for very long. I had horrible anxiety attacks and I cried for hardly no reason. I was an absolute wreck.
I eventually learned after waiting for all the test results that came back from examinations and blood work on myself and the pathology reports from my son's autopsy that there was no reason why my body could of caused a miscarriage, and nothing wrong with my son physically or anything wrong with his chromosome count.
I was put on antidepressants to help with my anxiety attacks and how depressed I was with the loss of my son. The baby I had been dreaming of for so long.
I would love to be pregnant again and the doctors say I should have no problem getting pregnant again however I am so worried I will miscarry again. I don't know how to feel or what to think...
If someone could let me know that they had a similar experience and had a full term pregnancy after their first miscarriage and that there is hope... please tell me your story.

I am so sorry for your loss...

I had a D & C done 1/23 after a missed m/c at about 7 weeks. I was just as early in my pregnancy as you, but that doesnt ease the pain of the loss. My OBGYN told me to wait to TTC again after 2 cycles. I finally had my first at exactly 6 weeks to the day of my D & C (usually waiting period for your first period is 4-6 weeks) So you can imagine my relief when I got it on the 6th week!! I am eager to TTC now but a little voice in my head is saying to wait. Whats one more month?!

Anyway hope my blabbering helped! And good luck and have fun making babies!!

Thanks to everyone who posted in this thread... I was going to ask a similar question as I just had a D&C last Friday, my OB & the gyno who did the D&C both said there is no reason to wait but after thinking about it I was going to wait until I had one period than start TTC again.... BUT after reading about some success stories I think we will try before then, I guess you never know, I would be very surprised and HAPPY if we did get pg
