Anyone else never had a baby shower?

PZ I threw myself one for DD and I am throwing myself one or this baby as well! First time around no one was as Organised as I wanted so I took over, and this time DD an I are hosting a picnic for our friends to celebrate the new baby.

I say do it!

I organized most of my own with ds 1 and it was great. I had friends I asked to organize some games and my mum helped me with the food. Dh hung around for a little while to make everyone coffee and then he left. I also threw one really for a friend who didn't have one for her first. She loved it. We had cake pops and dips and stuff. Was great. If you wasn't to have one start organising it and you'll be suprised at how many people offer to help :-)

I didn't have one with dd and am torn about having one this time. No one has offered to throw it and I'm not sure I can be bothered myself. With everything else going on, I feel like I need to focus on less stressful things. I may pull my finger out and have a few friends around but not really sure. DH doesn't like having parties so won't get any support from him. Plus, at the end of the day, I don't particularly like being centre of attention or large groups. So I would be insanely uncomfortable any way!

i used to feel like i was the ONLY one who didn't get to have a baby shower, now i can see i'm in excellent company.

I organised my own one for DD (I didn't actually realise that someone else was meant to do it for you

). As it turned out, DD was premature, so she ended up attending.

I am thinking of organising my own one for DS again, but only because I want an excuse to have a Tupperware party and get some of the kids' range Tupperware.

PZ - if I lived closer, I would have loved to organise a babyshower for you.

I had one for DS1 and it was rubbish, I organised it myself and it was very stale. I didn't bother with any of the other kids and TBH I didn't feel like I had missed out. But if you want one, you should totally do it.

It's funny. Most of the stories I hear/read about baby showers (or, at least a good proportion of them) are the pregnant woman upset that a) she had to organise it herself and/or b) no one (or not many) showed up.

I honestly think our society in general do not see baby showers as a rite of passage

Like Halloween and trick or treating, I think it is largely an American thing that has infiltrated our culture to a degree, and while some see them as 'Normal' and expect it, the majority don't.

I didn't have one with either of mine. I kinda wish I had at least one but oh well. If I ever have any more babies then I might organise my own.

I don't see it as a rite of passage or necessary...I honestly like the idea for the fact that a whole bunch of people who care about the mum to be can get together, celebrate a new life about to be born, catch up and share the love. So you know what? I'm going to do it. DH offered to be the host

I'm having a baby party.

I went to my first blessingway recently and it was beautiful! I had a baby shower and it was nice, but I feel really awkward about getting gifts.
Anyway, your mum sounds like real hard work! Good for you having the party you want. I hope you enjoy it.
