your mother's wedding dress

I bought a new dress for my wedding. My mum does still have her wedding dresses (from both her weddings!). The first one in 1974 was a long sleeved number , really really thick fabric that she had to get let out around the boobs and tummy because she was pregnant.. She got me to put it on once, LOL! The other one was actually a white suit skirt and jacket. Very pretty but not my style!

There was some heavy white lace left over from my mums wedding dress which I made into 2 ring cushions which my nephews dragged along the (horse &) carriage wheels

I wore my mum's wedding dress!
My mum is Indian so we wore a sari rather than a traditional white wedding dress handy as saris don't really change with the fashions

It is gorgeous handmade/embroidered gold silk and I felt very special wearing it. It made mum really happy too as it was a nice way to make reference to my heritage. DH loved it too, he thought it was all rather exotic! The best thing was the sari hid the fact I was 7 months pg...you couldn't tell until I stood sideways, even then they're pretty good at hiding sins

i wouldn't have worn my mothers wedding dress in a pink fit. it was all frilly and just blech! but my nans (mums mum) i could have seen myself in. but she sold it not long after she got married (married in the depression years) as for my gran (dads mum) she got married in a knee length skirt and jacket type thing.
I'm keeping my wedding dress for if i have a little girl she may like it ( its a ball gown when its got a hoop under it with a train) it can be altered fairly easy-ly as it waa for me i was just over 7months UTD and you could only tell if i stood side ways or had my hands resting on the bump

I have loved my mums dress ever since i could remember. I had always told her i wanted to wear it, but sadly, I did not inherit the big chest that my mum has. It had those BIG sleeves on it like the bell bottom pants? What are they called? I can't think lol!

I have no idea what happened to mum's dress either, but it was pretty. It was a bit of a hippy wedding, pretty simple white dress with little coloured flowers embroidered along the bottom. I wouldn't have gotten married in it but I would have liked to have it, or the fabric.
The real classic looking back at the wedding photos though are the guys - purple shirts & brown sandals

I wanted to wear my mother's dress, but her little brother had thrown up on it and the stains never came out, so chose against wearing a sick-stained dress!

I want to wear my dress again when we renew our vows for our 25th/30th anniversary... it will take me another twenty-odd years to diet back into it!

Nic - batwing sleeves. My mum's wedding dress had those too. Love them! But sadly not in fashion these days.
