    This is a fantastic thread, I just love quotes that have meaning, I have just finished writing them all down, Thanks

    And I would like to add one of my special quotes that I found when I was getting married 7 years ago.

    " To the world you are someone, But to someone you are the world"

    Mel - never heard of the Desiderata, but am now looking into it as I really love that quote!

    My favourite is 'Adversity does not build character, but reveals it'.

    "This too shall pass" - gets me through the tough times

    "If not now, then when?" - makes me stop procrastinating and do things, also makes me think about opportunities and making the most of them.

    Wow Arimeh that was absolutly beautiful
    this part really struck a cord in me

    "As far as possible, without surrender,
    be on good terms with all persons.
    Speak your truth quietly and clearly;
    and listen to others,
    even to the dull and the ignorant;
    they too have their story.
    Avoid loud and aggressive persons;
    they are vexatious to the spirit."

    It's great isn't it Emma? I also love "Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune" because it reminds me that I am strong enough to deal with whatever the universe throws at me. And nothing is too difficult or too big for me to overcome

    "you are now looking at the person responsible for your safety" (used to be a sticker at our SES HQ at the mirrors).

    "every day in every way I get better & better" (my Dad used to make me say it every day)

    "And nothing beside remains. Round the decay of that collossal wreck, boundless & bare, the lone & level sands stretch far away" - Ozymandias Percy Bysshe Shelley

    "Just a little bit dirty, its still good" - Homer Simpson

    " It takes a strong person to be kind ... and a weak person to be not ", i think by Olivia Newton John (my sister told it to me once). This is one i have lived by for many years as it's true to my own thinking.

    *** The following are interesting quotes of my grandparents i thought i would share with you in humour

    My Nan (my Mum's Mother) once said " Love is not everything because once the bills come in, love goes out the door just as quickly "

    Also the same Nan above once said " Marry a man that is not that attractive because he will always try HARDER to make you happy "

    My Pa (my Dad's Father) once said " Money won't buy you class, money will only buy you a$$ " (i know my Mum loved this one & loved her outspoken FIL dearly)

    .... ButterflyC, that is true to my way of living too

    .... PinnyMum, i gave a gift to my SIL that had that quote on it when she was fighting breast cancer !!!

    I LOVE the Desiderata!

    Also, one quote that always sticks in my mind is from Dr Seuss. "Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind."

    Great thread! I have so many...

    'Be kind to strangers, for some who have done this have entertained angels in disguise'

    'Challenge is an opportunity to flex our spiritual muscle'

    I love the Desiderata. My Grandma used to have it hanging in her house & I read it often as a child, I loved it then

    Intelligence and common sense are inversely proportional - from my friend Bilko

    This little gem I grabbed from The Beautiful Girls on Saturday "Noone goes to heaven if they don't go through hell"

    Another song quote "If you're lonely, take a drink, there are better things to think." from Augie March, a song on Sunset Studies but I forget which. If I'm realy anxious about an event, I write that on a bit of paper and keep it in my handbag.

    And form my yoga teacher, a whole bunch of gems, best said with his hilarious accent, but my favourite is "I am strong like a big oak tree, and nothing can bring me down"

    If you want a laugh, check out the Des"edna"rata. It's Dame Edna Everage's take on the Desiderata "Go forth, possums, into the rat race" Funnies

    My favorite of the moment is in Bathsheba's sig -

    "be kinder than necessary because everyone is fighting some kind of battle" has really struck a chord for me.

    I have used this in so many situations.

    "The personal is political"

    That is, what you do in your personal life has a political impact. For example, when I married I kept my maiden name and my children have my surname, not my husbands. Breastfeeding in public is a personal and a political act. Not allowing discrimination to go unchecked is a personal decision but a political one also.

    Oh I love Desiderata too. My Nan has it hanging on her wall, and its been in her house ever since we were kiddies, such important messages. Its very close to DPs heart too as they read it at his Dad's funeral a long time ago.

    I'm gonna have to go look up the Dame Edna version now for a giggle.

    Not a quote so much but I believe that you never get handed more than you can deal with.
    When all my friends were very negative towards me being pregnant again and trying to talk me into an abortion all I thought was 'Ive been handed this cz I can do it.' It keeps me going on the days where all I want to do is fall apart and cry

    When I split with my ex-DH my best friend gave me a cushion with this saying on it and it has become my mantra:

    In the end what matters most is:
    How well did you live
    How well did you love
    How well did you learn to let go
