BFing not going so easily for us. Its soooo painful. Went to see the mchn today and she did nothing to help. I had problems with DD too and all of the info and suggestions she gave me I had for DD too. It's not that I don't know whats wrong, I just can't seem to fix it! He's just so frantic to get onto the boob and won't attach properly. subsequently he's given me cracks and abrasions on my nipples. He threw up blood last night cause he sucked so hard in the wrong way and made me bleed. I'm in tears when he attaches to my right breast. I got some sheilds today but they don't let him drain my breast properly. I so just want this to be easier. He's not sleeping so great either. I thought I was tired getting up to DD a few times a night....well, now I'm tired. Last night we were up from 2.30am-5am. Just trying to settle him. Feed, burp, settle, rock, change nappy, feed.......I am soooo tired. adn now he's unsettled again.

Ugh, anyway enough with the whining these are the joys of having two babies under 18mths! But I must admit he's still pretty gorgeous!!!

    ok im here now

for now our BF is going well, my milk came today , i got to express about 60 mls from one side .. but the fullness hurts ... anyway , my main prob is my poop... nurse keeps asking me about the stupid thing so now i have performance anxiety , i have been gulping don the metimucal but hasnt worked ... will go to the chemist for some microlax, its a powerful suppositry , so once i take it i have no choice

did any one else need stitches or tear?? and re the bleeding from one of kristis post , i passed huge clots in the 1st 48 hrs , one was the size and thickness of a crumpet (no joke) after i passed it i had the shivers and was feeling sick and soo cold , i had no idea what was happening , so i kept it in the fridge to show the nurse when she came over.... she was fine about it and since then ive only passed a smallish one and now the bleeding is light , so im guessing its settled ...

gabby is just soooooo gorgeous , and is a 4 hrly bub so far , she has a tinge of jaundice but is peeing snd pooping like a pro so nurse (and me )are not worried , but i love it when she is awake and looking around and goes crosseyed ... too cute ..

seeing as doc told me i was having an 8lb 11 baby , i bought everything in 000... but now after getting some 0000 suits , we reckon she is actually a 00000 but no where stocks things that small. so she hangs out homey style in baggy out fits ... oh and the sposies we bought and ones we got give are all too big for her skinny ass and leak everywhere , and all my cloth are huge ... no point getting out my terrys and even baby bee hinds are too big , my friend made me some , but too big also ... arrgh

how are all the big bros and sisters coping ??? nixon is soo good with her , so helpful , but omg in 2 days he has gone from being my baby to such a mature little man ... it happens soo quick ...

off to "window shop" mcn stores ......

    night all .

Lea, yep, I tore, 3rd degree, stitch up to anus apparently (sorry tmi!), I cant feel it up that high thankgoodness! It still hurts a bit especially when I've been sitting for a while, like when I feed. Everything is still a bit achey. But my birth happened so quickly I think my hoohaa is still in shock, LOL! And I passed some serious clots too. Big enough that I could feel them coming out, so probably the sixe of my hand I would guess. I passed them up to about 5 or 6 days after he was born. Nurse said it was ok as long as bleeding didn't get worse.
Lil's going ok wiht Liam. She is already protective of hime and when he sries she's over to him quick as quick. But she is clingy, and often wants up when I am feeding or holding him. But I guess thats to be expected...I hear you on them growing up over night too. Lily seems like such a big girl now when a fw weeks ago she was such a baby to me. I feel a bit sad about that.
Anyway, going to try to go to bed...I'm sooooo tired.

ahhhh, slept between 10-12 last night then that was it. Grace woke 3 times...i want a drink, my knee is sore, i want my daddy....Eve was unsettled all night even after panadol and then Thomas was being woken by the girls so wanted to feed but was also tired so would only feed one side then not want the other side till after i had given up and put him down....and so the night went on...... Three kids without husband.....im insane LOL.... 6am they finally had enough with bed! Not a happy mummy today

How do i upload a photo onto my signiture? I was you all to be able to meet thomas?

    Congrats on the poo.

I had a 2nd degree tear but it healed within 7 days the same as with eve, i went no sutures this time and it made no difference.

I passed a tennis ball clot once...mw said it was fine, bleeding almost stopped now..

BF going as well as can be expected.. Still have to count to 7 before it stops being sore but no more cracks so bleeding...

Who said that their baby was too hungry to get on...have you tried timed feeding so they dont get too hungry and start the feed before changing or unwrapping... once they have had some then do all the rest and that should take the top off the hunger???

    take it easy today milly,

dh is manager of the social club at his work and for some stupid reason organised an event in late aug .... its not like he had no proir notice about the baby ...duh .

any way after succumbing to his request to drop him off in the city, i got lost on the way home and nearly collided with a truck , due to roadworks with no sinage then it was 7.30 and nix had no tea so , red rooster it was ...then got home to realise dh took the house key , and my spare was inside .... luckily my back door was unlocked...

anyway fast forward to about 1.30 am after waiting up as he said he was leaving as soon as the function ended , i caved and called dh , turns out he missed the last train and was walking home from brisbane to ipswich (45 km) and ovbiously ****ed ...

i was livid .. i was going to pick him up , and then i asked him why didnt he catch a cab home seeing he could bill his work for it DUH ...

he got home about 2.30 am and i was crying (baby blues, day 3 ... gotta love it ) i made him sleep on the couch and i let him know what my exact thoughts were .... what an idiot ..... i am sooo ****ed at him ... grrrrrrrr

and to top it off gabby woke when dh got home and was sooo fussy she fed about 8 times till about 5am ... she had bad wind and didnt know weather she wanted a feed or she was just full of air she thought she was hungry , changed about 4 nappies one after the other and after we finally slept i woke to find myslef lying in a wet patch , she had peed and the nappy leaked every where ... poor darl was sleeping in it ... i am pooped .. and now we have the IL's coming over and are then going to the goldcaoast to view a car dh wants to buy ( Its for me so i cant complain ) and then my mum is coming over ..

then tomorrow my dad and gma are apparantly coming over ... grrrr i am soo over visitiors right now ... i want a break and a full day in bed .. ..

and for now i am not feeding on my left side , its too bruised so i am just expressing , thinking of usuing a nipple shield on it , at least she feeds well on my right side ..would lanolin help soothe them or is breast milk on them better ???

gab is getting her heel ***** test today , but i can find her red book .. oops

re: the ticker , google tickers then decide which one you want then at the end when its made you have the option to upload a picture ... they usually have a certian size reqirement , but i just cropped a pic and had no trouble with sizes ,

make sure you choose a clear back ground , belly belly have only preg tickers , so i used lilypie , you dont have to sign up and you can make them straight away

Sounds like we all had a bad night last night.

I havent been sleeping since i gave birth, just these 20min power naps, an hour if im lucky. So they put me on sleeping tablets to make me sleep. But DH went out last night and i had to do the night feeds so i didnt take my med and i just couldnt sleep again. I dont know why i cant sleep, nothing obvious thats bothering me. Add on top of that Chardonnay has a blocked nose, shes either got a cold or like hayfever, keeps sneezing, snotty nose, chucking up phlegm and watery eyes. So shes unsettled when her nose blocks and she cant breath. Freaked me out this morning, her nose was blocked and she was gasping for air, i had to aspirate her nose quick.

It also sounds like we all passed huge clots, isnt that interesting. I was in the shower the day after i had her and plop onto the floor these two enormous clots. I was like OH NO, cos ive had a PPH before and i remember the clots and these were enormous, like as big as yours Lea. I called the mw and she came in and went "Oh they are substantial arent they?" and picked them up and dealt with them. I was then put on heavy duty AB for a week cos i had, had a temp since i had given birth so they didnt want to take any chances.

I didnt tear no, i was lucky. I havent torn since #1.

Lea- good to hear the back end problem is solved.

Well Chardonnay is needing me so i better go.

I hope you all get some rest today.

    Hello All,

Just wanted to join the thread..

Our DD was born 18/08/08 at 4:22pm.
    6lb 14oz (3.1kg)
    53cm long

    Chloe Elizabeth

We are BF'ing and doing well so far. My biggest issue, and some may argue that this is an issue, is that she sleeps too long and is only having about 4 or 5 feeds every 24 hours. Some people tell me to just demand feed and let her sleep while others are telling me to wake her, so I'm confused on what to do..

Since we came home she is sleeping around 4-5 hours min between feeds and the last few nights she is sleeping through a feed or two. One or two nights she slept 6-7 hours straight and last night I fed her at 7.30pm and she was asleep by around 8.30-9.00pm and she didn't wake till 7.30am this morning. Having said that she did have a very big day yesterday where she was unsettled all morning and then we were out all afternoon so she only got some short sleep cycles. I woke during the night for her feed times but she didn't.

I have a very good milk supply and she certainly seems happy to just sleep. Tonight I spent 30 minutes trying to wake her to feed and then she finally did for about 20-25 minutes and then fell asleep at the breast.

    ok im here now

for now our BF is going well, my milk came today , i got to express about 60 mls from one side .. but the fullness hurts ... anyway , my main prob is my poop... nurse keeps asking me about the stupid thing so now i have performance anxiety , i have been gulping don the metimucal but hasnt worked ... will go to the chemist for some microlax, its a powerful suppositry , so once i take it i have no choice

charmalea - YeP i got 2 stitches so not sure what "degree" that is considered. No clots on this side but heavy bleeding for first 48 hours and then it eased off. Still getting cramps and light bleeding and swelling is all gone down bare a few sore spots which I assume is the tear.

Not sure if it might help but I've found a product called RITE AID HYDROGEL BREAST DISCS did wonders for cracks and abrasions. They are a hydrating gel pad that you put in and moisturises like you wouldn't believe. I slept a night in hospital with one in and one out and the diff between my nipples the next day was very very noticable. One was peeling and dry and the other supple and soft with no cracks.

phew , back end problem resolved .... what an experience!!!!!
charmalea - hahaha glad that is sorted out..

these hydro gel discs seem popular, must go check them out..

ok , i dont know what to do , do i give a dummy or not , gab is very windy , she'll feed but gulp down air and then cry in pain , nothing works and she is only settled when she is on the boob , about every 20mins and then just sucks , not feeds.. she will fall asleep , and if you take her off , she'll wake when you lay her down then she needs boob to settle again ..

ihave a dummy here , a hienz baby basic one , its a 0-6 mth one but its huge , she gags on it and its really firm , so i guess i have to dtry another or , do you think this is a phase that will passs,

    me soo tired

    Hi lea,
Did nixon have a dummy? I have never used one for any of my kids...i have always found that it is just a stage. Thomas feed all morning this morning...like on at 7 am and off at 1pm.... boring. I often say, my kids dont need a dummy they have me as one LOL... You never know if they are feeding to boost supple or what... I think you would know what she needs, if you use one now it doesnt mean you have to use it forever....... It is hard to make the "right" decision when you are so tired but remember we do what we have to, to get through some stages of our kids lives. I NEVER thought id co sleep, but hay i need the sleep more than the battle at the moment

Hi girls, sorry I havent been around, I've been reading just not posting much.

Belinda we had our babies the same day & only about half an hour apart!! LOL Congrats on your beautiful baby girl

Lea Tobias has a dummy, DD used one too when she was newborn. I find it keeps them settled better especially when looking for something to suck but not hungry as you described. Dummys work for some but not for others but I've never had a prob Good luck, I hope you get some rest soon!

Kristi Sorry you've been having probs sleeping, hopefully you'll get a good nights sleep soon!

Milly Hope you've managed to get some rest too! Glad your BFing is going well

Kellie Hows your BFing going now? I hope you've managed to get him to attatch properly now. I hear you on the bleeding nipples, I had that with DD, she was only getting blood from my nipple aswell poor little thing. I hope he's sleeping a bit more through the night for you now too!

Me Still trying to BF here. I have to make an effort & get to an ABA meeting. I'll give the lady who runs it in my local area a call this afternoon & see when its on. It seems my left boob is working but
my left one seems to have decided to call it quits? I may still be able to save it??
After getting off to a great start with sleeping, Tobias decided the night before last that he wanted to be fed every 2 hours! So I was up every 2 hours, took an hour to feed him, then change him, put him to bed & make sure he's settled, try to get comfy in bed with all the pillows behind my back still from the pubic symphisis which has decided to hang around, means I still cant lay flat or on my side! So it felt like by the time I got comfy & closed my eyes it was time to get up again! Last night was better though, every 3-4 hours. Oh I was spoilt with DD!!!!
I passed one huge clot & a few small ones. The large one filled the palm of my hand, was quite a shock LOL I felt it coming out in the shower & I caught it & had a good look hahaha I still lose a bit of blood when I'm busy, rushing & doing too much but apart from that it's stopped. Pain in the butt when I feel it start again when I'm out & about but what can you do??
It's my birthday this Saturday & I think DH has forgotten. I'm not going to say anything though hahaha. He asked if we could go to a farewell dinner on Sat night for one of the girls at our church, I can think of a better way to spend my birthday (with family or a romantic dinner out alone with DH) but not sure if I'll say yes or no yet. Also not sure if I want to leave Tobias with the IL's to be babysat just yet. It seemed so much easier with DD, she stayed at my BIL's house for the night when she was 2 weeks old & I felt fine about it, just feels different this time, maybe because Tobias is smaller?? I guess I'll just wait & see...

Will Mel be joining this group I wonder? I hope she does, her DD came a little earlier but she's still part of our group

    Hi to everyone else

thomas still on boob today...all day LOL, might mean dh has to do dinner

tomorrow we are going to do twinkle toes , nix had his done at 7 days old so were getting gabby done and the lady will match the frames and plauques, she did a great job last time so i cant wait to see this one , then its off too see my oma , she is getting on a bit so id hate for her not to see gabby..

well after a huge ol nap this arvo and a cuppa to wake me up , i found dh went and boutght a dummy that was smaller , so when she got fussy i tried it and she gagged on it and spat it out then rooted for the nipple , so i guess that answers my question ....

poo, smelly i just noticed her cord stump has all but a teeny tiny bit of cord has come away its just hanging there a smells off... not infected but kwim about that smell...

finally got my nappy situation sorted , went and bought a newborn bambino mio pack which uses prefolds and a cover , the cover is a little big but they work like a dream , so no more leaky nappies ...

what does every one do at night to avoid leaking boobs ? or better yet , when did your milk start to settle down and not engorgre you so much ??? last night (my fault) i fell asleep with no breast pad in and i leaked all over gabby , and the bed , i woke up and had to change her and me ... it had been hours we'd been sleeping in it , atm i have natures child breast pads and they are lovely , so soft and soothing , but im scared if they get too soggy , i could get thrush , even with disposable ones i find they make my nipples moist , i had thrush and mastits a few times last time , so im trying to avoid it ... any one heard of a booby bib ??

danielle , in you post you mentioned one breast working and the other not , but you wrote left for both , which one is the wone that is working ?? My right side works much better than my left , i have always had problems with my left and i can feed in the cradle hold , on the football hold so that means at night i have to wake up fully and concentrate on what im doing ,and then its still painful , so its a bit frustrationg atm , but im not going to do anything ,like weaning from it till ive seen the ABA lady in my area... hang in there , go to a meeting . you have just remineded my to find out when a meeting is on , you never know , it could be the best thing and meet lovely people ..

i tried gab on a bottle of ebm but the teat was too long and fast , i only use the old style teats like the happy baby ones , but i stupidly assumed that if it worked for nix , it would work for gab.. but it hasnt ..
i kinda feel special that my boobs are the only thing she can take , as nixon left hosp on ebm and i had to hire an electric pump from the chemist to get my milk into him ... someone said to me once, well if hes taking a bottle , just give him formula ... .. that hurt a bit .. but we hung on till 7 mths till he weaned himself

im blabbing and making no sense .. going to bath gab now
