Could it be that because you wait for that 45 minutes before feeding him, he sorta gets over hungry - much like overtired? So doesn't really drink that much cos has gotten over the feeling of being hungry?
I have tried giving it to him straight after waking up too but yeah does the same thing, wont drink a full bottle .......... ahhhh the joys!
