Have been reading all your posts and it seems like everyone is doing fantastically! I am hoping its ok to join this thread as our thread (late aug) seems to have all but died!!! And I see trish has made the move! Anyway, to give you an update on us, Lochie is doing great! He is 12 weeks (as of Sunday) and is lovely, happy and chubby. Had him weighed last week at 11 weeks and he was 6.2kgs! He is such a happy little fella, always giggling and smiling! He does this enormous belly laugh and thinks the world is hilarious. He manages a smile for anyone who looks at him and makes them feel very special as they think its just for them . As for sleep, during the day its only 40 to 45 mins at a time, but at night he goes for as long as 9 hours so im happy with that. He gets a lot of sleep during the day, he just prefers it in small but frequent bursts. Im not fussed with that at the moment. The other good thing is that after 7 weeks (when he was 7 weeks) he finally got the hang of breastfeeding!!!! YAY I tell you though, it was a tough road. I fed my first son with no stress at all, he was a trooper, but Lochie found it a little tricky. He had a very small mouth that wasnt opening properly to attach and he was intolerant to anything in his soft palate making him gag and pull off all the time. I expressed and fed with a nipple sheild for the first 7 weeks and then finally, one day out of the blue, he latched on without it and has been feeding like a trooper ever since!!!! I think he just needed to get bigger and take the time to learn how to do it. I never thought i would have this problem as i thought 'i know how to do this, so why isnt it happening?'. Even my midwife mother couldnt get him on. But the lactation consultant was amazing and helped me, not so much find a technique that worked, but gave me the encouragement I needed telling me he could do it and to keep persisting. Im so glad I did cause now he is thriving! So...thats it for now, we are loving having this jolly and very chilled little man in our lives and we are certainly feeling very rested, even though this week he has gone from both all night sleeps to waking 2 times a night (I think the heat was making him extra thirsty). I forget that in the heat they need more feeds (as we do) as this is his only food and drink! But, the rough nights a few and far between so im pretty happy. Its a nice change as DS1 was a shocking sleeper as a a baby. Sorry for no persies today, I just wanted to share a little info about me and bubs and I look forward to getting to know you all.
