I've not used bottles much, but what Kaz says makes sense. 30 minutes is probably quite normal at this age, she'll get quicker within the next couple of months. I think it's best to let her set the pace - once she gets faster with this teat perhaps the right time to switch will become obvious (?)

we have done 2 feeds with the new teats and she has been fine, still taking the sametime to feed, not quite sure how that works LOL, she has actually bought her wind up better as well.
no more vomitting than usual.....
will see how she goes next feed and might change her back depending on how she goes.

Hi all.... Sorry I've been MIA. I've been laid up in bed with severe Mastitis. I came on so quickly on Monday night. I ended up calling a doctor out to my house at midnight to give me a penecillan injection as DH was at work, on night shift & I couldn't get to the hospital. I had a fever of nearly 40 degrees. Was shaking like mad & knew I couldn't go on the whole night like that. OMG, it was just awful. DH ended up coming home from work around 3.30am as I just couldn't hold Eden. I couldn't stand up for more than a minute. And there was no way I could've looked after DS1 when he woke up at 5.30am. I spend a full two days in bed with Eden, just feeding & sleeping. Then another day sitting on the couch. DH was great looking after DS1, cooking & cleaning. Yesterday was the first day I actually felt better. I'm on antibiotics, which are just awful. They really play havoc with my guts, and I'm pretty sure some is transferring through my BM so Eden's tummy has been upset too.
Other than that we're doing fine. Eden is still a great baby. He does have an usettled period every day, which is at different times (sometimes 1am), and lasts for around 2 hours sometimes more. Some nights he'll have a long 6 hour stint between feeds, which is great for me to catch up on some sleep, and other nights he'll feed 3 to 4 hourly. I'm getting use to the lack of sleep now and seem to cope ok during the day. If DS1 didn't wake so early (5.30am) then I'd be much better.
I'll catch up with you all over the next week.
Today is Day 11 without poo. thinking it might be time to fashion some sort of protective armour.
We're getting into a bit of a routine - well, she's more predictable - and day sleeps have been improving, especially since I stopped listening to my mum, who misread every cue as "tired" only then made faces at her while I was trying to get her to sleep. Frustrating!
crumpet - if you went up a teat and theres no issues, I would say stick with it. It's not like you can never change back.
Kaz - how are you going with feeding now? Thought of you yesterday cos I had a little beer - DH's homebrew, bottle conditioned, so heavy on the yeast, and I leaked all night!
Georgi - yucko on the mastitis. Awesome that you could call a doctor out. Hope it improves for you.

Just dropping by to say hello and hope you're all doing well. I'm not coping very well at the moment. Long story but Jacob still doesn't sleep beyond 30 mins and it takes ages to get him to sleep. Busy as trying to keep up with creams for my nipples, drops for his throat, sterilising of dummies (scrubbing with salt and boiling). DH and I are fighting like crazy, he just doesn't help me with Jacob whatsoever, and is very limited in what he does around the house, he's more interested in going to the gym or playing on the laptop. Last night I cried for hours, spoke to my mum on the phone as DH was at work. Tried to talk to him when he got home and he picked a fight and went to bed. It's all a very long story I won't bore you with but needless to say, the whole thing is a mess and I just dont' know what to do. If I hadn't had a c-section I would drive up north to my family who's offered to help me if I want to go up. I asked DH if he would drive me and he said no. Anyway, hope you're all doing better than me, the unshowered mess that I am at the moment.
Just have to offer some hugs Jules, can't do too much more right now as i've got a grumpy bub in my arms. Stay strong and just look after yourself and your little man. I'll be back when i can xoxo
Oh Jules, I'm sorry to hear that. It's a big adjustment for dads and some of them just don't seem to 'get it' early on. Sometimes I think mums need to be really explicit - I mean with instructions about what dads need to do. Unfortunately some just kinda get childish and feel usurped because their partners are so busy with the baby they feel left out... I don't know what's going on with your hubby, but I really hope you can get through to him.
Anyway, it's no good for you or your little man - you need help and support! Did the mail start coming through yet? I wonder if the carrier will help a bit, at least during the day.

Georgi, you poor thing! I had it a week ago - only 39 degrees here :lol: You got it really bad, hey? Glad you're feeling better and getting a bit of rest at least. DS is the same getting up so early :wall:

DD is still keen on sleeping during the day and not so much at night. I will not complain - at least she sleeps!

Crumpet - Charlie is 3 weeks today and he is stiil on a slow flow teat. It takes him 30 mins some feeds and 20 mins other feeds. I gave him a med flow the other day and it came out tooo fast for him and he started to cough and carry on so his back on the slow flow teats. His drinking between 130 - 150mls. Because he sleeps all night 10.30pm to 6.00am I feed him 3 hourly during the day. He brings up his wind really well both ways.

MadB - That's great little Miriam is sleeping, even if it's only through the day - better than nothing right? Yeah the mail is coming through again thankfully!! I received my carrier and gave it a go yesterday while he was upset but he didn't calm in it at all, then gave it another shot today and it was the cutest thing, he was screaming and then the minute I put him in he looked up at me like "hey...this is alright..." it only lasted a while but he was really over tired so I didn't push it. We'll just ease into it slowly, but I think it's going to be a success! Thanks for the suggestion. Yeah I know it can be hard on the men too, and it's hard for them to adjust to sharing their partners but I let him have his full nights sleep, I am sleeping in the lounge so at least one of us can get some rest... you think that would show him that I care about him but noooo, not my DH. Every time we fight he says "if you don't like it here then leave" and I don't know where he gets that from as I actually never complain.. but other night I was so angry and upset cause I had Jacob crying and him yelling at me so I said "don't you get it? I leave and that means Jacob leaves too...!!" and he said "I'm not scared". I'm just fighting a losing battle here.
Cathie - I don't mind you asking. He is 29 later this year, old enough to know better. Glad to hear Charlie boy is still doing so well.
Oh god Jules! I'm not really one for relationship advice, but it doesn't sound like he's coping too well. I don't want to sound too sympathetic towards him - you're the one needing help here! I do really hope you guys can figure something out. Maybe he needs to talk to someone - another bloke who can give him a straight talk about parental responsibility?
Anyway - fingers crossed the carrier helps you out. IT does take some getting used to for them. I tend to have to jiggle and walk around a fair bit when DD is unsettled. With DS we could hever sit down when he was in the hug-a-bub, or even stand still for very long.
Thanks Cathie - doing ok. the bleeding has pretty much stopped, but still having the scan tomorrow. just to be sure all ok.

Aidan is being a real challenge again, he mellowed a bit but at the moment he is slightly unwell and i think that may have something to do with it. I've made an appt for him but i'm kind of expecting them to say 'it's viral, nothing we can do'. He's just been waking up the last few mornings complaining of a sore throat and he's just soooo difficult right now. Charlie has also been copping a bit of his anger so i think i better rule out the illness and then know that i'm just dealing with this whole settling in period. Last week Charlie was pushed and hit his head on a toy which cut him just above the eye, there's been a few more pushes that were close calls and then last night Aidan bit him on the cheek and you can see graze marks beginning just below the bottom eye lid going down his cheek. Aidan has never been a biter until now, he's got so much fustration when things don't go his way.
Anyway it's been a challenge so along with everything else not a lot of time at the moment. Harper had her first bad night getting to sleep in quite a few so that wasn't fun either. I walked her in the sling with no luck, fed her over and over, patted her bott over and over, there was so much inconsoleable crying that just kills me, i wish she wouldn't get to that point even when she's lying in our arms. In the end all i could do was lay down with her in my arms, hold her tightly and pat her bottom firmly and she settled, started up again a couple of times before she finally fell asleep. Had an ok night though, i think we had 2 x 3 hour blocks!!!! She was probable exhausted from the evenings effort. Off to the MCHN today, i'll have a chat with her and see what she thinks. Is she really going to say that getting to the extent she gets to so often is really normal????????? It's just that my boys rarely got to that extent with their cries and i worry about the anxiety or distress her little brain must be going through so young when she does it. And we just can't seem to stop it.
Anyway i will be back for personals when i can ladies. Hope you're all well xoxo
Myboys, sounds so much like my DD! If you're there with her, then you're helping her, even if she's still screaming. Just holding her will reduce her stress levels (it just doesn't always seem like it).
DD had a big screaming session last evening, then had a pretty reasonable night once she finally fell asleep. Was at it again this morning then.... poo! and now she's settled again.

Myboys - If you don't pick charlie up as soon as he starts to cry he ends up crying and crying and crying and all I can do is hold him firmly and pat his bottom with his dummy in his mouth and he settles down. I know how you feel when they get worked up.
MadB - Good luck with the scan.
AFM - Well I started to really focus on the twins last week with the toilet training, we had soooo many wet pants and wee everywhere. I said to my hubby I can't do this the house is going to stink and than on thursday it clicked with Hana and she has been using the potty. Yay, yay, yay. Sam is still picking it up, I am so happy. Charlie is well he loves having his showers at night with his daddy. Taking the kids to the movies tomorrow to see tangled. Have a great day.

MadB - had a small chat with DH last night when he was a little calmer as I'd done some research and spoken to a counsellor myself about what had been going on and I've got a number he can call for a chat about everything that's changed lately and how he can cope with it. Worth a shot. He told me he'll think about calling, so fingers crossed! Gave the close carrier another go today, he stops crying but it's so funny, he won't just relax in there yet he leans right back and watches my face..it's the funniest thing! Good luck for your scan today, I am sure everything will be fine. Thinking of you.
Myboys - Gosh you poor thing :hug: you have so much to deal with there!!! I hope Aidan settles down for you soon, good luck at the appointment..! I hear what you're saying about hearing them cry. I'm slowly figuring Jacob out with his crying, sometimes he actually cries to tell me he's tired and wants to be put down, but we have this ritual that's worked the past two days reasonably well - I put him down, wrap him, and pop a dummy in his mouth and I play the sound "shush" through the laptop. I called a baby helpline the other night to ask about the oral thrush and if he could be affecting his sleep and she gave me some settling techniques, and it involved a lot of 'shushing' so I found it on the internet so I didn't have to do it myself for 40 mins!! (slack I know!) it works a treat... She also read a list out to me of 'typical newborn behaviour' and so many of the things our little ones are all doing is just totally normal. I do hope that you can get some help from your nurse either way cause hearing them get so worked up is so heart breaking.
Cathie - What an awesome job with toilet training!!! :clap: Hope Sam catches up to little Hana soon :) Toilet training while handling a new born, nice work.

ive kept up with the new teats and she seems to be handling them well, has a little chuck here and there, but she did that anyway. and she seems to be drinking more, whether thats coz its easier for her and she isnt getting tired from sucking so hard or if she is increasing her amounts in general im not sure but we will stixk with them and see how we go over the next few days.
had a bit of a issue with DH and his version of night duty on saturday night, which turned into a arguement at 3am :shakehead: but we are under control again so hopefully his night shift this saturday is less eventful!

Audax - have you had your poosposion yet? Not sure if this counts as a poosplosion, but I'll be changing Will's nappy and he starts grunting and then the poo starts coming out, and coming and coming and coming .... he'll do that 1-2 times a day, and if I'm unlucky enough to be changing him at the time ... well, I've "caught" 4-5 of them so far, today DH got one!!!! hehehe
MadB - hope M stayed settled for you today ... we've had a day of snacking and snoozing and crying here. Finally saw him do a tiny yawn, wrapped him and put him down immediately and he is currently asleep!!! Although he's due to wake and feed soon :(
Georgi - how are you going? You poor thing, that sounds like a nasty dose of mastisis :( Good on your DH for picking up the slack though. It's a good thing doctors still make house calls though.
AFM - well, my Fenugreek dose is now up to 12 tabs / day and my farts are totally horrid!!!!!! Pip is being a total twit, he's giving tackle-hugs to everyone, and it's so tiring keeping him away from the baby. And he's been pulling my hair (which is in 2 plaits today) and hitting the cat. I was going to do more craft with him today (found a website devoted to toilet roll craft!!!) but DH has cancelled that due to bad behaviour :( And I've confiscated Hedwig. Have to get downstairs somehow and do a few loads of washing. Will is doing well, he's co-sleeping with me every morning from about 4-5am, I think I'll get one of those thingys to put in the bed to keep him safe. Starting to get a smile or 2 here.

So, baby is having her second sleep of the day in her cot (after two short ones in my arms) and I don't know what to do with myself! Dinner is on, bed made, dishes done, one load of laundry done (raining so can't do more) had three HOT cups of tea and I'm considering vacuuming! This is brilliant! What I've been doing is wrapping her when she seems tired, rocking her, and then letting her fall asleep in my arms. Once she is completely floppy, I pop her in the cot, and then have another muslin over her, and I tuck it in really firmly, so she's super secure. Today it works - yesterday I didn't dare try, she was having a shocker.
No poosplosion yet, but she seems pretty happy to hang on to it.
Jules - glad you have found a sleep ritual. I hope that just by having that talk with your DH that he can be a little more supportive.
Kaz - yay for the smiles! We ditched our co-sleeper bed after a week. I found it was just giving me a really sore back when I lifted her out to feed and then was trying to get comfy next to it. Good for the first couple of nights, then not really worth it for us. I would give you ours if I lived closer!
crumpet - hear you on the night duty! On the weekend I asked DH to settle Noodle off to sleep, handed her to him, all bundled up and ready to go, he just had to rock her, and I went off for a desperately needed loo break, came back, and he has her sitting up, saying she's not tired! Lies! He just wasn't trying hard enough - sometimes I feel like saying to him, when he sits on the couch with her and can't settle her down "If it were as easy as sitting on the couch, I wouldn't complain that it's hard, would I?" But he is generally very good with her.
Myboys - hope you've had some better times with your little lady. It's so awful when they're inconsolable. It makes me cry as much as her!

Jules speaking of the floods, today doesn't look like a good day at all. Such devistation!!?? I hope all of us ladies are safe and well. I've been watching the Today show this morning and a couple of times they've mentioned a midwife contacting them who is aware of a lady out in rural Toowoomba (sp sorry) that is due to give birth any day and is totally isolated and they have not been able to contact her. I hope her and bub are ok. I remember watching the Black Saturday fires heavily pregnant with Charlie boy and now watching these floods, my gosh nature can be so cruel.
How is everyone?? My mum is back here now and the boys are out helping her clean out her caravan and i'm cleaning bathrooms. Harper is sleeping. We had another horrible evening last night and what worked to finally settler her on Sunday night wasn't working last night at all. Do any of you have tips that actually work to calm the witching hour or do you think it just has to run it's course each night??? I spoke to the MCHN about it and she assures me it is normal (her and I are confident she's not doing it to the extent of a baby with colic) and she says that that terrible isconsolable cry isn't causing any harm as long as i'm there with her. Same as when she's in the car because that kills me that i'm not holding her but we constantly talk to her and tell her it's ok so again the nurse says she'll know i'm there and it's just her not being able to calm herself.
So lets hope this is a phase that they out grow quickly.

Crumpet - Thank you. Glad to hear all is going well with the new teats. I understand what you mean by when DH does things differently, it can be so frustrating cause we are the ones that are with them ALL the time and we know what they do and don't like. If only they would listen to us so our little ones got the same thing every time it comes time to settling...
Kaz - Great news on the smiles!! It makes the screaming matches so much more bareable doesn't it? Sorry to hear Pip isn't on his best behaviour, I'm sure he'll get past it soon and you can get onto your craft activities together - that sounds like so much fun!! a whole site dedicated to toilet paper roll craft...wow. That's impressive. It's nice you can still put the time into Pip and do these things together, I'm sure he appreciates his special time with his mum :)
Audux - Hanging out for your poopoo explosion story, it's bound to be epic!! :rofl: My DH does the same with Jacob - sits on the couch and wonders why he gets more and more cranky...uhhhh do you ever see ME on the couch with him? nope, I'm rocking, walking, pacing, patting, talking, singing :lol: men. :)
Myboys - Isn't this weather just crazy...when I saw the footage on ninemsn yesterday afternoon I immediately called my cousin - her and her husband have just moved in to a new home and they have a little boy that is seven months old. I couldn't get through so sent a text, she told me they had water in the house and lots of damage but they were all safe. At the end of the day we just have to be grateful that they are safe as material things can be replaced. Gosh I hope that woman who's due to give birth is ok, if you hear any more about it please let us know! That's nice your mum made it, hopefully she can help you out and lighten the load for you a little!! As for the witching hour, Jacobs changes every day but I don't know that I'd call it a witching hour, he has actually stopped screaming and only really cries to let me know that he either needs a burp, nappy change, feed or that he's tired. Here is a website I had recommended and I found it really helpful: (if the link doesn't work let me know!) it's a SA website but it has so much research on there and different ideas that I found so useful (a lot of it you will know as you're not a first timer!!). What I do with Jacob now is what I listed in my last post. It works most times, sometimes it takes longer than others, depending how tired he is. But I find if he's gone into a screaming session he often doesn't want to be held, he's telling me he wants his own space so I pop him in the basinette and play the "shush" on the laptop and place my hand gently on his chest so he knows I'm there and talk to him calmly, telling him that I love him and I won't leave him till he's asleep and when he wakes up I'll be right here for him. He generally starts to calm down and begins to nod off. Every baby is SO different and even with Jacob it doesn't always work every day but for the most part it's what's saving my sanity. I'm actually happy to report that he has stopped feeding 1.5 hourly and is going between 2-4!!! Last night he was up between 10-2 and I tried to settle him, he would settle then wake, but he wasn't inconsolable which was lucky. When I finally got him back down - with a lot of patience and two extra feeds - he slept for THREE solid hours, I feel like a new woman!! Lets hope this is the start of something good :lol: (I can dream right?) :) You'll find something that works, Harper knows you love her and that you're there for her, so don't doubt that you're doing everything you possibly can. You're doing a wonderful job :hug:

Hello all, sorry I have been incommunicado for the past... I don't know how long? I hope all in QLD are safe, I was in tears watching the footage this morning. What a nightmare. Has anyone heard yet how we can get clothing/blanket/towel donations up there? We can't help out with cash at the moment but we need to clean out wardrobes and linen cupboard - was going to donate to Vinnies but think this is more urgent.
We're travelling okay at the moment. In spite of all my efforts (fenugreek, cookies, expressing like a mad cow) my milk supply has just about given up the ghost. It's bizarre because Millie's attachment is heaps better now and the pain in my left nipple has really settled down. She is still getting a little breast milk, but she is taking so much "top up" now that it can't really be called comp feeding. She is a much happier little girl with a full tummy and is sleeping really well too. It's a bit of a spin out to suddenly have multiple wee-soaked nappies (I hear you on the leakage... my goodness!) and so little poo! I take it from the chatter above that this is normal for formula babies? I also need to look at the teats so thanks for the advice above. I'm at peace with it - I was a bit disappointed at first as it was great to go from comp feeding to exclusive breast feeding, and to have it drop off was upsetting. As my Mum pointed out though, Millie has had 7 weeks more breast milk than I ever got. I always said I'd give it a red hot go, and I have. I have a lot of knowledge for next time around too :)

Millie had her follow-up paed consultation yesterday. She's up to 4.23kg and 55cm! She's doing well, but has been referred to a paedeatric cardiologist for a heart murmur. It's not too sinister but the paed wants an ECG to make sure. He told me what to look out for in terms of symptoms of it worsening - turning blue, sweatiness, listlessness, refusal to feed etc. For now though, she's doing so well - sleeping longer at night (after fighting sleep soooo hard for a while, I think just to make a point :)), smiling at us and starting to coo, grasp at things etc... It's another reason I'm at peace with her feeding - with the long bfs, followed by bottle, followed by expressing, sterilising everything and preparing feeds, we were both exhausted after feeds and she was off to sleep before I could read to her, sing to her or play with her, which I really want to do. I applaud Kaz for persisting - it is an exhausting regime and I just couldn't continue.
...just heard from the church, Millie's Baptism is on for the 6th March :)

PP - Jack had a heart Murnur when he was little, he was referred to a Cardio Dr and all was fine. Amelia will be fine.

MadB - How did the scan go?
AFM - Well Charlie gets his hearing checked on the 3rd of Feb so we will see what happens. Charlie is laying in his cot at the moment looking at himself in a mirror and listening to Bach. Well I hope he can hear it, I was saying to my hubby last night that might be why his such a good bub he can't hear the screaming children. ha ha ha. I'm feeling better still get a few pains every now and then.
Took the kids to the movies this morning to see Tangled, it was really good. Better go Charlie is starting to sqawk.

:hug: pixie, I'm glad you're feeling good about it. It must be very hard doing all three jobs, so I can completely understand not wanting to continue that way. Sounds like Millie is doing fantastically - hope all turns out ok about the murmur.
Ther'es a little note on DD's discharge thingy that mentions a murmur - but noone said anything to me about it so I'm just assuming it's ok...

How's pip behaving for you now Kaz? DS just wants me to "put she down" all the time. He even dragged the bouncer out to the front room yesterday so I could put her down to play with him. I did get a chance to play golf with him yesterday - it involves a golf ball and a fly swat, only I had to use a plastic hammer... you can imagine.
Saw our midwife today - next week is her last visit :cry: DD is 4.5kg now, dunno how long. She spent 2 hours last night grunting trying to get her arms out of the wrap... only she won't sleep well with her arms out. :dunno:
ETA - oh, I was going to say re daddies doing things differently - I know how hard it is, but sometimes I think it's really best to step back and just leave them to it. They figure out their own way of doing things and can only do that if you give them the space to try and fail a bit first. DH got soooo ****ty with me with DS was little as I kept trying to direct him and tell him what to do. He did things differently, but that worked for him. In fact, he's always been better at settling them when they're really distraut. Anyway, that's what worked for us.

Myboys, LOL at Charlie eating playdoh – was at a friend’s place on Sunday and her DD2 came out with an icecream for us she had made out of playdoh… Lex took it and said, “This is soggy… Abby have you been eating this?” “No!” she says, out of her blue mouth… Millie still does the inconsolable screams sometimes as well – it is so heart breaking isn’t it? I’ve discovered she gets very stressed when she has a blocked nose – even just one nostril partially blocked makes her very upset. Fess Little Noses is our new best friend. Not that she particularly likes having saline dripped up her schnozz… but once she gets it cleared she’s a much happier little girl. The screaming fits are becoming less frequent though – I think perhaps girls are more prone to this than boys? My sister said that and I’m pretty sure Cathie has mentioned this too…
Crumpet, my DH is addicted to Amelia’s smile as well – this is another good thing about her bottle feeding now as she is at her smiliest with a full tum and he can feed her and get lots of smiles. He hates it when he comes home and she’s asleep, I can tell he’s just itching to poke her so she’ll wake up and he’ll have an excuse for cuddles.
Jules how’s the oral thrush going? *hugs* about the issues with DH, it truly is a weird adjustment for guys to make. DH and I (who are usually the most sickeningly loved-up couple you ever laid eyes on) had a few issues early on as well – sounds like you have been really proactive in contacting a counselor.
Kaz, so glad you got the pump and that all your hard work is paying off!
MadB, the same thing happened with Millie’s discharge sheet and no one said anything. The Paed said that he noted it so he’d remember to check it – apparently most just settle down in the weeks after birth. He was reassuring and DH and I are taking it in stride. If there’s an issue we’ll deal with it then, no point worrying unless something comes of it! “Put she down…” I love it (as a linguist – as a Mum I can see how hard that must be!) I hope DS adjusts okay.
I have to step back from DH as well, he gets frustrated very quickly when trying to settle Millie – he spends ages up there but doesn’t stick with one strategy for long enough so Millie gets confused. He’s also a bit shy about singing to her so he hasn’t yet unlocked the power of Cat Stevens…

Audax, LOL at the protective armour! It’ll be a good ‘un when it comes, that’s for sure! Hot tea? What’s that? I ended up buying a mug with a silicone lid, kinda like a takeaway coffee lid… still end up leaving it til it’s cold! Green tea though so it still tastes good.
Cathie Charlie sleeps so well! And he drinks a lot – Millie is almost 8 weeks and takes 140 – 150 per feed when she has nothing from me. Which formula do you use? I stuck with Nan HA as that’s what the hospital sent us home with, but my sister used S26 Gold. Glad Tangled was good, it looks like a good film. STILL have to see Harry Potter – it came out the day Millie was born and I’m determined to see it at the cinema!!! Mums and Bubs sessions are off during the school holidays though so stuff it, I think I’ll just take her into a day session. I saw the last few HP movies surrounded by feral teenagers so they can live with it if Millie decides to yell :) Oh and Bach? My favourite. My iPod is in Millie’s room and she gets Bach when she can’t settle. Funny – I labored to Bach :)
I’m off to Zumba tonight! First proper exercise in ages. Can’t wait! Just hope I can still lift Millie tomorrow…

Hi all. I haven't been on since my last post cause Mastitis hit me again! In the other breast. Oh lord.... It's been horrific. High fever, pain etc etc etc. Just think of the worst mastitis you can get and I've got it. I'm losing all my milk and the pain of feeding is the pits. I'm hoping i'll be on the road to recovery soon. I'll get back on once i'm better to catch up.

Us - Left DH with Will & Pip for about 3.5 hours today, apparently Will screamed for all bar 5 mins, when Pip shoved a dummy into his mouth and woke him up to start screaming again ... Just drinking my prescription beer here ...

...had to drop back in because I'm about to burst trying to keep from laughing. Went off to Zumba tonight, having left DH with a warmed bottle and a hungry baby. Came home after an exhausting but fun hour of booty shakin' (must get a better bra in my new size...) to a very frazzled husband - he opened the front door as I came in, holding two very full nappy sacks and a poo covered romper and wrap, as well as a rather manky spew cloth. He said, "it has been an eventful hour." I had to try soooooo hard to make appropriate soothing noises, but given that I have dealt with the vast majority of her explosions so far it was hard to be sympathetic! She hadn't pooped all day, so this was obviously The One... She was lying calmly in her cot, awake but settled - completely unconcerned by the events of the evening... poor DH. :rofl:I think he was starting to think I had it easy on my own with her during the day... I'm actually kinda glad he got to experience that.
Kaz, how's that beer going down? Sorry, no wisdom here on lactation boosters!
Georgi... that truly sucks. I hope so much the pain eases for you soon.:comfort:

PP - You've done such a great job to stick with bf'ing for 7 weeks with all the hurdles, I admire your determination. Most people give up within a few days even when they have milk!! so to have gone what you went through and still continue for as long as you have then you should be so proud. There is nothing wrong with bottle feeding, hey, who can complain about less poopy nappies?? I have about 10-15 a day here and it makes me want to cry sometimes, I'm so exhausted at night I'll walk out of his room from changing him and he'll pass a big heap of wind and fill his nappy AGAIN!! if it's not the nappy then it's the damn hiccups grrr. Oral thrush is still hanging around unfortunately but I have a feeling we are getting on top of it, he's not making so many noises, his bum is basically clear - (he only ever had slight redness, nothing too serious) and my nipples aren't as painful when I feed (thankfully!) We have another appointment with the health nurse tomorrow so I'm looking forward to her checking him out and hopefully saying we're on the mend!! I'm sure Millie will be fine with her heart murmur, they are generally just a precaution. Good luck.
Georgi - You poor thing!!! I had it once and that was MORE than enough!!! I hope you have a speedy recovery and don't end up having to deal with anything else!
MadB - Jacob loves lights too, he cranes his neck to try and stare at any light that we walk past when in the house :lol: I know what you mean by leaving DH to do things his way and not tell them what to do, I've tried that SO many times, last night once again in fact...I left him with a calm baby to rock to sleep and went for a shower...came out to a SCREAMING child and DH saying "here, you can take him, I don't know what he wants, I'm not doing a good job" I told him "you're doing a great job, it always takes time to settle him, you just have to stay calm and persevere..." but anyways, we'll keep trying at it I guess!! Oh and you are officially my lifesaver!! I have been having a REAL bad day here, haven't been able to get Jacob to sleep most of the day, a few five min naps here and there and crying and unsettled the rest... I was so exhausted and had enough so I picked up the carrier and popped him in, walked out to check the mail and by the time I came up the stairs he was fast asleep - still is!! thank you thank you thank you!!
Kaz - not sure about things to increase the supply but your friend may be on to something...I seem to have bulk milk happening and I have been eating peanut butter on toast most mornings? Does that count? :lol: no idea... I don't normally enjoy it but I can't eat vegemite or anything with much sugar so nurse recommended peanut butter toast (how thrilling)
Kaz and Pixie - How funny on the stories of your DH's left alone with bubs....gives them an appreciation of what you deal with on a day to day basis!!

I was reading everyone elses and thinking 'oh gosh, thank god that's not me!!'.....that was until YESTERDAY when my little treasure was having nappy change 1000 for the day and I was popping cream on his butt (for the thrush) and he passed wind and shot a splash of poop onto me!!! ewwww, thanks baby boy!! Kaz - feeding lots :D On beer, I've read that it actually doesn't increase your supply. what happens is it reduces teh flow, so you get less milk out leaving your breasts feeling fuller, so it seems like you've had an increase. I certainly hope masititis gives you a miss! You've already got enough on your plate.
Jules, with all that feeding it's no wonder you have heaps of milk. DS was the same with all that poo - my goodness it's nice to only have 1 or 2 a day (though now of course I worry slightly that it's not enough... no pleasing some people, hey?)
Adn don't thank me, thank whoever invented those things. DH was telling me about something really interesting a while back that he heard on Radio National. There was a guy talking who'd written a book about the interplay of technology and evolution (can't remember the name of it) and he basically said that slings made us smart. In order to stand up, we had to decrease pelvis size, so couldn't birth babies with fully formed, smart brains. So we needed ways to parent completely helpless babies - enter the sling, which allowed us to get smarter, but with much of the brain development ocurring after birth.
DH has a pretty good appreciation for the hard work involved as he was a SAHD for 5 months after I returned to work last time.
MadB that's what i keep thinking to myself... Just go with it, i think it's one of 'those' times and it'll pass. Yesterday she was calm as calm just slept and fed and had only a littlish tantrum to get to sleep. Today is the opposite, she's barely been in bed for 30 min at a time and seems to want to feed every hour or so. Just go with it..... (talking to myself... :lol:)

we've been the same today - Will's very sticky and sweaty and hot, suspect that's got something to do with it.:
Audax - our little man hadn't done a poo for over a week either and the paediatrician suggested using a glycerine suppository (can get them from the chemist) to aid the pooplosion. He had been getting very fidgety for a few days so I thought it might be affecting him. After much effort to get it in, the next day he did a massive poo and has been like a different baby since, much happier, and he even did a poo of his own accord this morning.
I have so much reading to catch up on, I don't know how you ladies find the time to post on here. I still seem to spend all my time feeding, playing, or catching up on sleep. Despite my earlier doubts about my parents, my mum has been a godsend and I haven't had to lift a finger since he was born. I know I will really miss her when she goes back to the UK in 2 weeks and I have to do everything myself.
Jules and Myboys - I hope you have better days tomorrow. We had a bad day here too with him not sleeping properly in the morning and me in tears by 11am.
This probably sounds like a really dumb question, but what do you ladies do to entertain your little bubs in their awake time? I find myself getting a bit bored with waving toys in front of his face, and I'm sure he does too. I need to learn the words to more nursery rhymes, my repertoire is rather limited.
Our little Connor is still quite a good sleeper at night - usually wakes inbetween 2-3am and then again about 5ish, and goes straight back to sleep after feeding. I would like him to drop the 5am feed, but maybe it's still a bit too early for that. He generally only takes one boob at each night feed though before falling asleep, which is frustrating because if he took more he would sleep longer, if that makes sense. But the daytimes are a different matter and he won't sleep longer than 30-35mins in his cot. Yesterday someone suggested that if he won't sleep for long and normally likes lying on his front, to try putting him on his front to sleep, so I did that for his afternoon nap today and he slept for an hour, which is unheard of. I had to keep popping in and checking on him though so it wasn't a relaxing time for me.
I will try to get on here again in the next few days, but it's time to express now so DH can give him a feed a bit later. Take care ladies x

Ok so sounds like none of our little ones liked the 12th. What a day!!??
Horrible evening had here last night, when she finally settled in my bed after so much screaming she slept until 4am (last fed about 8:30ish)!!!! I had the largest chunck of sleep i'd had since she's been home.
I wonder what today will bring??

Picketty, that's a great night sleep you're getting there! Sometimes I get one 3-hour stretch. Mind you, DD is a whole month younger than your boy.
I don't think they really need entertainment as such at this age, just looking them in the eyes and talking to them (or singing if you feel like it) is enough. (and cuddles of course) They love looking at lights and mirrors too - the dappled light through leaves, especially if there's a bit of breeze, is often a baby favourite. They're all different of course, but I know with my DS we had to avoid too much sensory input in the first few months or he'd very easily get overstimulated and then spend (several extra) hours screaming at the end of the day.

Myboys so glad you got some sleep! Millie was very unsettled last night too, which was annoying - went to a sleep and settling class yesterday, offered free through family health care in Parramatta, so thought I had it all figured out. Millie must have been listening and thought, "nup, shan't be doin' that." Also I told DH about a few of the suggestions and he seemed to think I was trying to force them on him - he got defensive and said he'd keep doing what he's been doing. *sigh* I think he had a bad day at work and wasn't in the mood.
Picketty, welcome back! Good to hear from you. Millie likes songs - I can't remember many nursery rhymes either so I sing songs I like from my childhood - mostly 70's stuff like Cat Stevens, Mamas & Papas, or even earlier - the Beatles. I have created a playlist of these on my iPod so we can listen to it in the car as well :) If she's in the mood I'll read her a story - something simple, rhythmic and repetitive is good. Lynley Dodd's stories are great, and Mem Fox as well. But usually we just sit face to face, having a chat. She's 8 weeks today so only a little older than your man. Once she starts getting fidgety and cranky we stop and I (try to) settle her.
As for us... Amelia was unsettled again this morning. I should check her nose first - she was screaming blue murder because she had a blocked nostril again. Poor little thing... a bit of Fess and she settled well. After her mid morning feed I popped her in the pram and went for a long walk to the local shops. The overcast sky should have warned me - it was sooooo humid. I had to stop in at Gloria Jeans to rehydrate (such a shame :) ). It was so great to get out of the house and I haven't heard a peep from Millie since we got home.
Too hot for hugs, so *iced teas* for all!

I've just had a few visitors which was a lovely break to the daily routine of late (but i love it all). Harper was a bit tempremental about being in her basinette but my friend managed to get her asleep soundly and she is now in her bed. I do feel completely different to yesterday (sleep makes such a difference), yesterday i was so tired and i had the feeling of being on the verge of tears all day.
Had words to DH (he is doing so well but we still have our moments also) about him getting grumpy at me for calling him at work. He hates me calling to say i'm struggling because it makes him feel bad but i said to him for me it's an outlet, i don't call yelling and screaming i just wanted to talk to him.
Settling in as parents be it 1, 2, 3 or 6 :D takes some getting used to for both mum and dad i think. I have to say i have noticed that my DH has stepped up to help around the house (without being asked :o) more than he ever did when both of the boys arrived so i'm so proud of him. It's such a huge adjustment ladies, so if DH are being a little difficult i'm sure it has a lot with them trying to adjust and find their place as a father. Good luck and lots of patience to all :D
PP my boys love Hairy McClarey (sp??) and Mem Fox is great also. We love Where Is The Green Sheep. When Aidan was a little bubba i remember lying on the ground with him and reading We're Going on a Bear Hunt :D We haven't really gotten into much of a play routine yet either, but she's starting to have a little more awake time.
