AFM - We have been away since Sunday. It was good but also good to be home. Have done heaps of washing today and stocked the fridge again :rolleyes: J is 6 months old tomorrow!! We're looking to start solids this weekend. Can't believe it really. When I was having all those dramas with est.ing b'feeding the first 3 months it felt like I'd be feeding him forever and now he's about to start feeding himself and the process of weaning (long hopefully!).

HI girls, Ive had problems accesssing again. I have had to go back to using Internet explorer as I keep getting error messages with BB using firefox :dunno: strange!
All these sick babies. :grouphug: Hope they all get better soon. I am sure there are lots of tired mums.
Kaz- :hooray: for J being 6mths tomorrow!!!! Such a milestone!
I took Ash for her needles today and she didnt even cry!!! What a champ!
AND SHE SLEPT THROUGH AGAIN!!!! This has been such a long time coming. I am glad my persistence and sleepless nights are paying off.

BBL after netball, sophie has chest, ear and throat infection :( she got really bad really quickly, temp over 40 so i rang and took her straight to the dr's

AJP- God how scary, I always worry when there temps get so high. How is she now? Gone to sleep ok? Got temp down?
Ali- Woohoo, I'm still waiting for a sleep thru, even tho she only feeds once a night she still wakes and makes a noise at least once besides that. But its not forever I keep telling myself. I'm glad she is doing so well after all the drama you had with her sleep.
Kaz- The time flies doesn't it. Are you going to do BLS?
Tarkine- Its funny how peoples true selves appear when someone dies. It amazing some of the family dynamics and all that. You'd end up thinking it'd be better if there was no estate then there'd be no dramas!
Ems gone off to bed, hoping for a good night.

Tarkine - I feel like I have a 4 month old :lol: - J still not rolling in any direction, no teeth, no solids. He still feels like a little baby even though he can do more than at 4 months.
Ali - We had salmon for dinner last night too!!! Great that A slept through for you.
AJP - Hope the girls are feeling better real soon. Take time out for you if you can too :hug:
Shell - It feels hot here today - sure it's still just in the 20's but its a beautiful day out there. We are going to try BLS and see how he goes. He still is nowhere near sitting up so hopefully we can wedge towels behind him in the chair to keep him upright, otherwise we'll be waiting a bit longer!
AFM - Happy half birthday Jacob!! So strange to think that it has been 6 months. Todays topic at mum's group was 'What were your first thoughts when you saw your baby" and I've just read in another thread that today is national ceasarean awareness day. Weird coincidences!

Kaz - Jacob will quickly change - Alex was just laying there and then rolled a couple of times (for DH) and then all of a sudden he was all over the place! He's got his little tricks, like laying flat to the floor and reaching out one hand wiht his fingers.. plus he's learnt to pull the blanket towards himself to get his toys (this doesn't quite work when he tries to pull the cat towards him). He's so cute, I just want to kiss him all day!

Hi everyone - we're back! We had a great time - ate too much and drank too much but it was all good. The girls loved the Sanctuary.

Nai- yay glad you had a great time, I know Ash would love the sanctuary, we went someplace near phillip island last year and she had a blast, well except when a wallaby scratched her face, she still talks about it!
Tarkine- lol at him pulling the cat, bet the cat isn't impressed! They're clever little things aren't they.
Kaz- Little J the last of the group to get to his half birthday, its funny how fast its gone, this time last year we were all getting big!
Jols- how is Sophie? Hope her temp has settled.
Emily just is very snotty, no more temps thankfully just still unhappy and not sleeping so well cause choking on snot and stuff. Vapouriser has helped tho.

Nai - glad to hear you had a good time .
Shell - I keep telling the cats to run fast, but they are pretty tolerate. Alex has patted both of them, although one is a lot more tolerant than the other.
AFM - made the most of the beautiful weather and went for a walk to the shops. It was so nice to have a day to ourselves. Alex is rolling all over the place and gets up on his hands and knees and tests his balance every now and then.

Tarkine - J loves our animals too, especially the dog. He chats away to her and smiles and smiles anytime she moves anywhere in his field of vision. He has patted the dog and one cat -the other cat takes off. He grabbed the cats ears and also his tail during one patting session :o I had to pry his hands away but the cat was ok with it - he was looking for a scratch!
AJP - Hope Sophie is on the mend. Been thinking of you guys today. Sounds so unfun!
Shell - Glad Ems temp is gone. Snot sucks.
Meg - How are things going for you darl? Been thinking of you lately. Hope you're all ok.
AFM - Put J in the chair today. He can sit reasonably well - I was a bit surprised but he does get a lean going on sometimes! He had a bit of banana at lunch time and then some brocoli and pumpkin at dinner time. He thinks it's great! He actually swallowed some pumpkin cause it was really soft. Made the funniest faces with the broccoli - gagged slightly and then brought up a heap of spit - he was trying to move the little knobbly bits out of his mouth! Too funny.

Tarkine - I am no expert and because J is the youngest in this group he's probably the last baby here to have started solids but we are doing baby-led-solids (or baby-led-weaning). Meaning he eats what we do (as long as its appropriate for babies). We're starting with fruit and steamed veggies but it's more finger food until he gets the hang of it. So you skip the puree and mash stage totally. I don't plan to feed him any commercially made baby food. I think it's too high in sugar/salt etc but that's just me and I do understand it's convenient. We're not expecting him to actually eat anything for quite some time and take the approach that he'll actually eat when he's ready and eat what he wants to so long as we keep offering a wide variety. He's still having 7-9 b'feeds a day.

Tarkine- we do home made, have some jars that friend gave me but will use them if I need. Pears and apples I was doing myself but going to use jars for that cause just mixing them with cereal. Vegies I steam until really really soft and mash them with a fork, I then freeze them in ice cube trays and once frozen put into sandwhich bag. My freezer then is full different cubes that I just pick whatever to mix and heat that day. I also offer some finger foods outside meals just to get practice in.
AJP- ooh I love my wii, been so slack lately tho, for awhile I was doing wii fit everynight then Emilys sleep went to crap and was too tired, I really need to get back into it. How is Sophie?
Kaz- Did you get some pics? Its cute watching them isn't it.

Kaz - I think I'm going to have to get off my butt and start making my own banana and custard. Just wish that Alex would go into the cot for his daytime sleeps (and when I do put him down sleep for more than 10minutes) - makes doing anything around the house tricky.

AFM- Well it's my birthday tomorrow and I wil MIA as having celebrations at my mum and dads, spit roast lunch, went shopping yesterday and spent a fortune on clothes for me and the kids but really needed too, was starting to fell really daggy in my clothes... but being on one wage atm makes me think twice about spending....L still not the best, cough so bad but I can see an improvement each day... so at leaset he is on the mend..Also got my hair cut today so feel like a new women..

sophies better i think! she still had some high 39 temps today and last night, hoping that the end of those, cough is awful as is millies, her chest id soooo wet sounding, shes almost purring her chest rattles so much.

Tarkine - I make my own food. I just steam and blend with a stick blender. With fresh food like banana or avocado i just fork mash. Some of our combinations are: pumpkin, zucchini and broccoli; sweet potato and cauliflower; banana and natural yoghurt; avocado and banana; carrot and parsnip; spinach, zucchini and potato; apple and pear. I am also doing finger foods with miss J and she likes to feed herself banana, bread crusts, carrot sticks and zucchini sticks.
I don't freeze - I just make fresh every couple of days and Miss J generally eats the lot in that time :rolleyes: She is whinging now - I think she wants food :lol:

Nai- what brand yoghurt do you use? I'm looking for alternative to the kids ones cause Ash used to break out in huge rash from the flavoured kids ones, funnily vanilla was ok but the others must've had something funny for her in them.

well for the first time in 6 days sophie has a normal temp :dance: !!! she was still up mulitple times last night but hopefully tonight she'll go back to sleeping through!!
i have been working on ggetting millie to sleep with out been wrapped, she has one arm out and ive given her a blankie to use as a comforter, i have to wrap it up with her and leave some out, she likes to have it on her face.
nai millie just wont eat!! even finger food just gets squished in her hands :lol:

Happy birthday Pinny!
Been very busy here so not much time to log on.
L has started having 1 meal a day (dinner) and so far has had pumpkin on its own and also mixed with broccoli. So far so good! We are doing the same Shell re steaming then mushing then filling the freezer cubes and then once frozen just chucking the blocks into a container so there is always food available - it just needs to be defrosted! At some stage today I will steam some more pumpkin and also cauliflower and might try the cauli tonight. We also give L sticks of raw carrot and celery to "gum" on just to get used to the flavour and it seems to be soothing too!
Kaz, don't worry - L still has no teeth, has never slept through, rarely rolls and still can't sit up either! He has only started on regular solids about 4 days ago and I am still feeding on demand, which is probably about every 2 hours and I also feed him to sleep!
Anyway, hi to everyone - hope all the sickies are recovering well :hug:

Shell - I just use Farmers Union natural European style yoghurt. I can't justify the money they ask for the baby yoghurts!

Oh yeah absolutely! I just add mashed banana or stewed pear to the yoghurt to make it sweeter for Miss J.
Does anyone else have this problem? Miss J has started pinching me while BF - with BOTH hands at once. It's great that she's getting so coordinated but it really really really hurts!!! She is pinching my bb right near the areola at the front and then with the other hand pinches the sking on my tricep. I'm almost in tears by the end of a feed it hurts so much and I think she has bruised my bb!

Nai- I have the biggest scratch mark all the way down my boob towards the nipple wher DD scratched me with the corner of her nail (it even bled!!!) and I get pinched alot and it hurts! Thanks for your tip about firefox. It worked ;)
Jols- Great to hear Soph is on the mend!! That is so cute M was saying mum! :)
Kaz & Holly- DD moves around sometimes but not often. I dont do nearly enough tummy time or sitting her up without support behind her. I should do more. No teeth here either.

Cant remember who asked about food but I just buy those rafferty's pouches. D loves them and it saves me pureeing foods. I also buy the hars of pears and apples. We tried yoghurt today. I just put a few teaspoons in with the puree pear to make it a bit sweeter as natural yoghurt tastes gross to me! She loved it. One of my friends told me she puts banana on a paddle pop stick and sticks it in the freezer and gives it to her girls (7mths & 3yrs). I am going to remember that for hot days. DD also loves lvoes loves sucking on watermelon and mashing it with her hands.

nai get pinched too, i have heaps of scrathes on my neck as well!! no matter how short her nails are they still hurt
ali you can get the tins of pie apple from the supermarket, they have nothing else added, and just puree them, just watch for the apple seeds!! easy and cheaper than jars!!
were finally having some success with food!! she wont let a spoon near her mouth and fruit was too slippery to hold so i baked some pototo and steamed some zuchinni and broccoli last night and she loved it!! i know she ate some broccoli cos i saw it this morning :sick:

AJP & Ali - yep she scratches me too :( I do remember DD1 doing this and it did pass but I can't remember it hurting this much! Maybe Miss J is stronger.
Yay on the solids AJP - Miss J loves some steamed vegie sticks to munch on. She will only have them after her spoon food though as she wants the food in quickly (mummy's girl :lol: ) I think I have a little piggy on my hands. She is eating a big bowl of baby cereal with fruit for breakfast, 2 courses for lunch and 2 courses for dinner - plus she still has about 5 BF a day! And she has finger food snacks as well. She is getting really chubby too although I'm sure it will come off once she starts moving. She is pretty happy just sitting at the moment and doesn't look like crawling any time soon.
I can see the bulges for her top teeth in her gums but they haven't come through yet - I think they will be here in a week or so though as they don't look too far off.

Emily sqeezes crap outta finger food too but loves rusks and other day she sucked on a water cracker loved that too.

AJP- I used to buy those exact apples with Ash and do same thing, sooo much cheaper and so easy to do. Glad to hear Sophie is better.
I feel like crap, Emily is suddenly waking more at night expecting bottles so its a battle to get her back to sleep, she already has one bottle at night plus another 4 in the day plus 2 solids meals so she doesn't need another, yet 2 weeks ago I thought she was ready to give up night feeds! I keep wondering if she'll sleep thru before Ash did (which was 13 months)

Hello all!! Well DH had a week off work and we went away for a few days and then I wasn't really on when he was home. Just spending time with my little family before he went back to work. He's back today though so here I am! And shock horror I have time to type bc DD is asleep and let me put her down in her cot!! wtf. She's been in there for 31mins so far, lol.

DD is getting very clever lately! Playing peek-a-boo with things. She will pull her bib up over her head and then quickly pull it down and laugh at you. She's also saying mamama and dadada a lot but not sure if it's really mum and dad yet. How do you know when it's their first word? Hmm...

AFM i bought a new stroller and im in looooooove!! its fantastic at the shops, makes shopping a lot easier! missy slept through til 5am this morning and sophie didnt wake through the night either which was nice. im getting my hair done tomorrow, need the greys covered up!!

I can't remember when I posted last, and wha was going on, but in short this is what has been happening -
J & E got diagnosed with Scarlet Fever and are still on AB's
DH ended up in hospital with Pancreatitis.
FIL ended up in hossy with an infected foot (He is a diabetic)
My sis's csect scar has got infected and she has gone back to hosy.
MIL is at the Eye and Ear hossy today as she has damaged her eye. She is quite sick.
So sort of trying to look after everyone a little.
E HATES solids. Some days she might eat a little, but most day not at all. she fed herself a bean last night (yes only 1 bean) and a bit of banana. But that is about the most I get out of her in a day. J was so different. He was having 3 full meals by now!
Hmm - What else? E sits up on her own, rolls tummy to back, but still not the other way. She does't have a bar of tummy time, so I don't expect she will be crawling any time soon.
She also now HATES the bottle, meaning difficult to leave her for more than a few hours.
Oh - and thanks girls who signed on to my Farmville!

Meg - :hug: :hug: :hug: Sounds like you've had a rough trot with everyone being so sick around you darl. You can only do what you can. Look after yourself too in all of that goings on!
AJP - New wheels!! Cool! I saw some of what J ate again yesterday too. It was fascinating but I'm sure I'll get over it :redface:
Shell - J has been waking HEAPS the past week or so overnight too. Sometimes I just feed him (2 hourly :o ) and other times I try resettle. Last night he was awake from 12am to 1:30am and I refused to feed him cause he'd been feeding 2 hourly since 3pm and had already had 9 feeds in that 24hour period :o So over it. Want the one feed a night routine back now please!!
Malyna - whoohoo sexy new name chicky! any reason? How is A going? How is your DH? Is he back from Adelaide yet? How did it all go?
Nai - J went through the pinching phase. Hurt like hell. Now I'm getting punched :rolleyes: (He also gives himself a good walloping too though :lol: )

Sorry - can't remember what else. Hello to everyone and their bubbas!! Was going to take J to a new playgroup today but he took ages to go down for his morning sleep and I wasn't organised and then my sister called and then he slept through the start time so I gave up. Maybe next week. I ran some errands up main street instead a bit later on when he woke. I'm going to post some photos of him attacking food on fb soon.
