MelanieKate: have you tried BFing then like an hour later expressing, as in not nessaernaly a pump but hand expressing? you dont just do 'north and south' trying doing 'east and west' too as i found it stimulated more milk ductes then just north and south.. i was doing it like that while my darren was in SCN and i had an over supply of milk the other thing is are you drinking enough water/milk/cordical/anything other then booze ? i find if i dont drink enough my milk supply drops as well...i found darren has the mustardy poo too, but if he misses a day as such of poop its a little greener (and i also find he poops like 3 times aday if its like that) it also depends on if its been hot (like the other day was 36 deg. here...and he had greeny poo) but i wouldnt know...im guessing the smell is normal...i dont seem to be bothered by darrens...DH would be better at telling you - he has a more sensative nose the i do!
Selina : yeah i use a sheald to slow my let down down some. other wise darren chokes and pulls off and then it takes like almost 2hrs to feed him. he can attach better as well. your oliver sounds like darren, loves letting the sheald fill up with milk, pull off and have it all go down my frount! so now i tuck a small (old) hand towl into my bra at the fount and let it sit under his head (and down my leg) so when it happens my mat. bra doesnt get wet! (plus after a feed any little possets that come up go on it...kind of... rather then him!) as for the MCHN i've made up my mind that she's doing a job, by the book. darren is NOT a page of a book, he's a human being and im his mother and i *know* whats best for him. plus her idea of feeding him in 40mins is cruddy because of the nipple sheald...so im happy to take an hour/hour and 20 to feed him (if he burps at all lol).
AFM: Chris, Darren and i had our first 'outing' today. we went to a big shopping center where i used to work to pick up my old pay slips (we need it for the baby bonus...and stuff) and i wanted to show off darren to the guys i worked with! they all commented on how strong darren is (like he can lift his own head up and do like a top body push up!) they all thought he was SOOO cute. and we also saw a friend of ours there too, she showed darren off to the guys she works with. the down side, darren woke up for a feed when we got there...then wouldnt settle in the pram/bassent only in my arms...so hes now sleeping with DH on the couch (they both need it!) so he'll be about 4 and a half- 5 hrs between feeds, but i dont mind, gives me a chance to make some more milk and be very relaxed when he wakes up...who knows, he may even take both boobs hes only taking one at the moment, becuase if i offer him the second he over-eats and all my milk gets thrown back up! he's an over eater me thinks. but he looks soo cute right after a feed and if he's fallen alseep and had milk down the side of his face...DH calls it a "a nice attempt at a milk beird"
Any one else had a coffee while BFing? i did and i think the caffine when to darren, he was WIDE awake after the feed lol...i wonder if i have a glass of wine with tea tonight if that'll affect him the same way as it affects me...and makes me sleepy
ok i think i should properly introduce myself. im laura. my beautiful daughter bella grace was born on the 13th feb at 6:25pm weighing 7 pound 4 ounces and 48cm long. i also have a 20 month old son logan who keeps me extremely busy! i have been feeding her which was hard at the start we had alot of attachment problems... but now everything seems to be going smoothly. we have had a few bad nights and she is waking roughly every 3-4 hours to feed.. hello to the new mummys in our group!
We had a horror night last night when the twins decided they would stay awake for 1.5hrs at 3am!
So today I decided to start cutting down the daytime sleeps and they've gone down for their 7pm sleep without a peep. Hopefully this means they are zonked.
Expressing helps with my supply or else a coulple of days on Fenugreek also boosts the supply.
Dont forget Babies go through a growth spurt around 3wks so they empty the boobs faster so they sometimes are left with an empty boob. Express and it will stimulate that milkbar!
I'm positive my Milkbar has ran out! I fell shocking about it! They aren't getting as full as they used to and the let down feeling isn't as intense as it used to be!

Lachlan is sleeping heaps too! I don't know if I should wait til my milk completely runs out before I put Lach on formula or if I should just put him on now!?

oh mel the midwife told me that my milk can fluctuate sometimes so maybe you are just going through one of those periods? i would call or go and see your midwife and ask her.. if the little man is sleeping heaps maybe he is getting enough booby milk! other wise he would be letting you know that he is hungry!

Saw the MCHN today. i think she got the idea i use a nipple sheld becuase Darren cant/wont attach with out it (possbale nipple aversion..) and she didnt mention ANYTHING about fromular. but i have to express and top him up on 30mls of EBM after a feed but she FINALY got that he was on the boob 100% for 48hrs when we saw her tuesday! he put on 15g. Ohh and shes now telling me to WAKE darren up...after drilling it into me he need to sleep.
