Hi Michelle,
The sleep training book taught you how to settle your bub during the night, so that they could then learn to do it themselves. The idea is, keep the room dark and quiet. Don't look or talk to them. Just pat them softly on their chests until they stop crying. If they start crying again, count to 30 and pat them again. The first night it took me 30 minutes to get Tobi off to sleep, but each time he got better and on the 6th night he slept through. I knew that he wasn't waking up because he was hungry, but every time I picked him up, he smelt the milk and thats what he wanted. I just needed that hint on how to settle him back to sleep and it worked. Makes sense to me now, but when I was sleep deprived, do you think I could have thought of doing it!!!!
