Is it normal to take up to an hour or hour and half to settle after a feed or nappy change? Do you think JD is picking up on my lack of confidence?
It's totally normal. Belle is very good at being unsettled in the middle of the night/early morning!!! I am so sleep deprived because of it.

LMS Did you make a sleeping bag for Xavier? I think it was you that mentioned it a few pages back? I have started sleeping Belle in a full length cotton stretch and grow at night because she won't be swaddled.

I used Karicare Gold with DS and if/when we go to formula I would use the same.

IBelle is very good at being unsettled in the middle of the night/early morning!!! I am so sleep deprived because of it.
This is Ryley all over he doesn't seem to settle well in the middle of the night..

Hiya Deb. As someone said to me as long they get the good stuff at the start then it will help them in the future..

Puppies-I hope things go well for you at the ultrasound..Ryley didn't do a poo for one day and he was a little constipated and the next morning he left me a little surprise. Loll.

I am using Heinz Nurture for him and he only spew a few times but he goes done well after he has a feed which is good..I am using the Nuk bottles and found them great.

I feel so lucky my brother bought me a cot from a garage sale and its a Baby Co and it comes with a mattress and its hardly been used. Now I got to sort my room out and find a place to put it. Lol.

Hi everyone, had the community midwife come round today and Larissa is now 3760 compared to 3580 when born and is 52.2 cms compared to 51 when born... shes grown so much in less than 2 weeks but is still in nb clothing! I've been having a few difficulties getting her to settle when she wakes for a feed in the middle of the night. I'm usually so shattered by that point that I'll call asleep comforting her but if shes not in her cot then she isnt crying and I'm so worried she will wake everyone else in the house up. She's really good apart from that, I think living with so many people is a real disadvantage as they practicallly pick her up all the time, dp is awful for waking her up in the morning then passing her on to his parents - it would be great if he let her sleep in or if he was waking her to see her himself but it bugs me a little that he does this! I just think shes going to get too used to people fussing over her all the time and that will make it hard work for me!

I do formula top ups or sometimes full FF bottle...but seeing though Zach HATES formula its a rare thing....its booby or EBM for him...fuss pot!

I use Karicare Gold as well, no vomits, same stuff i used for the girls.

Deb i hear ya on the sore nipples babe....but i think good thoughts while feeding and push the pain to the back of my mind....not sure if it helps or not. I had a good cry last night.

Amanda good luck for the u/s tomorrow, im sure it will go fine.

Kirsten yay on the good outing....the train platforms are useless in Melb....they should be level with the trains not higher!

TOnight is Zachs turn to not settle...fed at 830 and now wont stop crying no matter what i do

Well I feel pretty good today. DH did the night and early morning feeds so I went to bed at 9.30 and woke for JD's 6.30 am feed. so thats a great night sleep, thank god! I am sitting here pumping away so JD has a bottle before his ultrasound this morning. I am a bit nervous about it. He will probably scream and cry. so will take a bottle of my milk and a formula just in case I need more to settle him. So far still no poo. His last poo was Sunday night and it was a beauty. But I just googled it and some babies can go a few times a day to just once or twice a week, so that has me settled a bit. THANK GOD FOR GOOGLE AND BB!
Ok better go boobs are empty now, so will get JD's gear all ready so we can just out the door hopefully without too much disruption.

P.S. Last night after his fed he wouldn't settle again. So when DH came home he tried to settle him while I started dinner but he wouldn't which is very strange as he loves his dad. We burped and cuddled and played and still no luck. So we wrapped him and put him in his cot shut the door and let him cry for about 30 minutes. He would calm down and then start up again. Not really full on screaming all the time though. We ate our dinner and then thought well thats 30 minutes lets see if he has worn himself out so DH went in and got him and placed him on his chest and no more than 5-10 minutes later he was out like a light! So we let him stay on DH chest for about 30 minutes before putting him back in his cot.
Is this called controlled crying or something, is it ok to do this at this age? I really dont want to teach JD that he needs us to cuddle him until he falls asleep. I have to go back to work part time after 3 months and full time after 6 months so this cuddling till he falls asleep thing is not going to work for us.

    Hi girls..

Kim-yeah your telling me I feel a little scared getting off then on. Hope Zach settled down for you Ryley like that also and it takes a awhile to settle him down and its worst now its hot..

    Puppies-glad things are going well..

    Steph-glad Larissa is going well..

Plc1805-yeah Ryley is like that and sometime won't settle.

    Hello to everyone else..

Well the MCHN just come to place and just left and Ryley now weights 3680grams and he head has grown from 32cm (birth) to now 36cm and he has a bit of thrush on his tongue so going to get some NilStat drops today for him but other than that he is going well she said and he is growing beautifully. And I feel much better and feed him ever 3 hours I thought it was ever 4 hours but he is waking up before that now so I'm happy and feel more relaxed. I think the mattress that came with the cot looks brand new and hardly used so I am going to use it.

    Hope you all are well.

well we are back from the ultra sound and it went well. JD behaved like a champ. I was worried about nothing. I am looking forward to taking him out and about a bit more now. Will see what Pedi says about his results when we see him in a next few weeks.

Anyways, I am just on cloud nine since this morning went so well.

Great news Amanda! So Pleased everything went well and you feel good about it.

PLC - thanks for the advice. Things seemed to be back to normal last night, so feeling much better about that. I guess when things are going so well it's easy to think something is wrong when bubs has an off day/night.

Kirsten - how sweet of your brother to buy you a cot.

Steph - must be hard having a house full of people. Maybe you should put some 'rules' in place. Like you said, you are the one who will have to deal with any problems that may arise. Can you talk to your DP about it? Hope you can work it out.

Kim - I look forward to reading your birth story.

Big hello to everyone else. I'm so pleased that everyone seems to be doing so well.

We had our 2 week check up today and Harrison is going great! I am so lucky to have such a good bub.

Is anyone else a bit down about their post baby body? I'm by no means stressing about it, but everytime I get dressed it is a struggle to find things that fit me! I complained to DP yesterday and he said 'Honey you have just had a baby' I said to him 'The baby was in my stomach not my thighs and butt!' LOL... It's silly I know, but I can't wait to be able to get back into the exercise and do something about it! I do have amazing boobs though I guess I should make the most of them while they last!

Better be off, I hear crying

    Hey girls

Well this morning I was all ready to give up on breastfeeding, but after having my midwife visit, I'm feeling a bit more positive and going to keep going at it. I've been told to express for 24hours to help my nipples heal as he has nibbled at them a fair bit. Got some stuff to get from the chemist tomorrow to help with my supply. Although when I just expressed before, my supply went up a bit. Looks like my stressing may of lowered it.
Harley is going really well and growing heaps...so thats sort of why I want to give the BF a go cos I know hes gonna put heaps more weight on with formula, not that there is nothing wrong with it.
So will try attaching him again tomorrow after lunch, and with the pump it will help bring out my nipple for him as I have flat ones... I can also express if things get a bit sore again. So here is one happier mum!
Both kids are asleep so I really should get some rest lol

Amanda: So glad your day went well, and hope the results are just as good!

Kirsten: Ryley sounds like he is growing real well!

Kim: Glad u had a good night hun, and that Zach slept so well!

Victoria: I totally understand u about the post baby body, I feel very unattractive, and can't wait to get my weight loss campaign going!

Steph: Glad to hear that Larissa is growing well also!

Big hellos to everyone else and hope u are all well!

Well I feel on top of the world today. I think I have had a win! I think I have figured out that if I feed JD right on 3 or 4 hours or somewhere in between or as soon as he shows signs of hunger before he gets really going then he feds and falls straight back to sleep. I fed him like that twice today. First DH fed him at the U/S and although he was a bit grizzly he settled pretty good. But his lunch time feed and his afternoon feeds I bottle fed the lunch time feed and breast fed the afternoon fed I was able to settle him straight away without even one grizzle. So happy about that BUT at the same time am not getting too excited cause he may just be having a good day, God I pray that he stays like this especially for tonight. DH is going to do the night shift again so that I can get another good sleep as he is working from home again tomorrow. But I do feel bad that he will do 2 nights in a row. But he was up working till 1am this morning well after JD went to bed so its not like his sleep deprivation was because of the baby anyway. Tonight he said he will go to bed a lot earlier. I think we both will.

Hi ladies..had a wonderful day today with lots of visitors. Princess Ruby has been so loved and adored..its so lovely being a baby!

Glad to hear you and your darling babies are going so well.

Victoria I so hear you! Im weighing myself daily and have been on the treadmill each night, but its stilll depressing having limited clothing choices...aaargggh.

Amanda controlled crying is definatley not recommended in babies under 6 months. I have never used it at any age but at our babies age they are trying to communicate their discomfort by crying...they cant do anything else. As frustrating as it can be, it sometimes just takes time to read babies cues. Im so glad the us went well though..am hoping the results are good too.

Kim glad little Zac is going so well...hes putting on sooo much weight wow!

Kirsten wtg on your first outing..yay for you. Glad it went well. Ryley sounds like hes doing soo well..what a fantastic mummy you are!

Deb thats so great you have decided to give bfeeding a go. The midwifes suggestion sounds great, giving your nipples a chance to heal. Its hard when theyve been grazed to feel positive but sounds like you are doing a great job.

Well have a hungry baby so best go..

Hi Everyone, bit late in dropping in here so I thought I had better say hi straight away otherwise later might be too late.
My little girl Georgia is going well, she is a natural breast feeder which is great for me being a first time mum. She has been a dream so far so hopefully things dont change too much. We cant stop looking at her and still cant believe she is all ours sometimes I think someone is going to come and take her away and say sorry we were just joking you cant keep her.
Had heaps of visitors so I am looking forward to that slowing down - I guess everyone loves to see and hold a new born. Hope everyone is doing great looking forward to hearing everyones progress and glad we can all help each other.
Anyway I wont ramble on too much but just wanted to join in.
    Thanks

Well after a great day with JD is was only bound to happen. Last night he took ages to settle again. DH gave him his milk and he was just not looking milk drunk after 100ml so he gave him some more and he took about another 10 maybe 15ml more and looked to start to settle but I think he was just past tired. So DH put him in his room again to let him cry it out, doesn't sit right with me though. I just wanted to cuddle him but DH took charge a bit, he does that sometimes. Anyway he ended up getting him about 20 minutes later and tried again to settle but in the end the only thing that would settle him was laying with me in bed and suckling on the breast only for about 5 minutes. But he dozzed off and about 40 minutes later DH came and put him to bed. He woke again at 3.30am and it was DH turn to do the feed but I said no honey let me do it. Cause I was worried that he was tired and cranky and may be a bit rough with him and that would just stir him up instead of calm JD down. So I changed his nappy and gave him his bottle and he settled off the bottle nicely. I let him lay on me for about 30 minutes as he slept it was nice and then put him in his cot again with out his dummy. We are trying not to let him sleep at night with his dummy cause he winges if he drops it and we have to get up all the time to give it back to him. So dummy is only for day times.

He woke again at 6.30am and DH went to change his nappy and bring him into bed with me. I gave him the breast for about 10 minutes tops and he feel asleep again so I let him sleep with us. But do you think I could sleep, no my mind is racing around with so many things and all I want to do is just sleep. Its so annoying. I then go and put JD in his pram in the lounge room and make him comfy and try to go back to bed only to lay there with my eyes closed for another 2 hours but wide awake and DH snoring next to me. God I could be asleep right now, but what's the point of just laying there if my mind wont shut down! Is this common? Can you take anything while BF that can help you calm down for sleeping? If I can't get my sleeps when JD is sleeping I just wont survive!

We had a 5am wake up today then he was back to sleep til 930am! his boy loves his sleep

Had another middy check up today....now only 35g under birth weight. Still has a gunk eye though.

Ive written up his birth story to and id like to share it with you all: https://www.bellybelly.com.au/forums...ml#post1616717

Amanda i find Zach is hard to settle if he hasnt had enough milk....or not enough. If he wont settle i check for dirty/wet nappy, to hot/cold or burp a bit more. Some times babies just want to cry or be unsettled for no reason at all.
