Hello June Mummies!!!

Well I know that my little Mikayla was running late but seeing as she was only 13 hours into July I was wondering whether my dear dear June friends would be happy for us to stay :P

Hope this isnt too long but here is our story...

I first started having contractions on Thursday 28th June after finishing the big move into our new house. 2 more days passed and the contractions were still 15 minutes apart. I phoned the hospital at 1am on Sunday morning as the contractions were now unbearable. They were 5 minutes apart and lasting 3 minutes. I was told to come in for an internal to assess the progress. When we got to the hospital at 2am our OB already happened to be there with another patient and made a joke about him having been waiting 3 days for me to get there! He examined me to find that I was only still 3cm dialated and my cervix was still quite high. He organised a drip for 7am in the hope that things would happen naturally but wasnt very optimistic. The pain after the induction was excruciating and I opted for an epidural as I really wasnt coping with the pain at all. I didnt have any faith in the doctor who came in to give me the epi from the moment he walked into the delivery suite. He kept pointing out what could go wrong and trying to justify every movement he made which made me feel like he was waiting for something bad to happen. Well it did! First of all he said he couldnt find a gap in my spine to insert the canula - he kept asking me to curl up further into a ball - YEAH RIGHT - like thats possible with a hugely pregnant belly. Even the midwife was getting annoyed with him - telling him that there was no way I could curl up any further! When he finally found the spot and began inserting the epi I almost died!! The pain was incredible and to top it all off I was having strong contractions right the way through the process! I think I almost broke Matt's hand off trying to break through the pain barrier! Just when I thought it was over - he calmly explained that it hadnt gone in properly and he'd have to do it again!!!!!!!!!! WHAT THE???? By the time he was finished I was wondering why I'd bothered and I was still feeling the pain because the epi had already worn off before he'd finished. After this was over my OB came back for another exam (approx 12noon) and said that the drip hadnt worked. I was still only 3cm dialated and my cervix seemed to be thickening up again. He told me that the monitors showed that bubs' heart rate was dropping and I had no option but to have a c-section which at this point I was welcoming! It took them 30mins to set things up and finally at 12.43pm our beautiful baby girl Mikayla Jaide come into the world!!

Words cant describe the feeling of happiness, excitement and relief that we both felt the moment she was born. Mikayla is the most precious and beautiful little human being I've ever set eyes on! All the sickness and discomfort of the last 9 months was completely forgotten when she was placed into my arms which I'm sure you all well know first hand!

Hope to catch up with everyone soon. Take care of those precious babies and of course yourselves! xxxx
