Stacey: Aunty Flo still hasn't arrived in my neck of the woods, thanks for asking - now I don't feel so strange. I had read that with exclusive BF that it can take a while for them to come back but I was starting to think 4 months was a bit too long until I did some searches on BB & found for some people their babies are over 22 mnths old before they come back!? Dusty is a big drooler, has been for a while now, if he hasn't got his hands in his mouth he has a toy in his mouth. I have to put bibs on him or his clothes are soaked by the time I put him to sleep again but no sign of teeth either. In terms of feeding Dusty is very distracted & is now only feeding for a few minutes before pulling off, I tend to try & put him back one or two more times but after that I sit him up, burp him etc... give him 10 - 15 mins & then give him the other side. I am lucky he isn't really gumming my nipples yet. GL with keeping the feeding. Glad to hear you survived the holidays & have fun in NZ.
Andie: Dusty is nearly out of 00 as well, the nurse measured him on Monday he is now 67.5 cm, I can't believe how long he is now, lucky for me I have been given almost all of his clothes but I think Laura's idea of cutting the toes is great money saver. About your e-mails have you heard/tried webmail on the bigpond.com page (up the top in small grey writing) I have a bigpond account & find that using webmail for the larger e-mails means that they are already on the screen so don't have to be downloaded so it doesn't take as long.
Bec: your persistance is amazing & with your determination I am sure you will succesfully build up to a normal supply. 25 ml is a great milestone, the good news is that when you do get Jake back on the boob he will get a lot more than you are pumping as they are the most efficient (sp?) pumps in the world.
Laura: how are things going?? How did the hypnosis go with trying to quit smoking?
Reenie: have you started your studies yet?? how is that going??

O.K so in my world the community nurse came on Monday, Dusty is now 8.4 kgs & 67.5 cm's long. I thought he was a heavy little bugger. DP was there as well which is good because the nurse backed me up about not giving Dusty solids until 6 mnths. I have agreed to the occasional taste but nothing serious until then..
In terms of sleep I am trying to explore all options because at the moment I rock him to sleep & he is crying while I am doing that - at times it really drives me insane. He is also getting too big to be rocking when it can take upto 1/2 hr to get him to sleep. I have checked the reasons his crying, it is not because he is hungry or in pain he simply doesn't want to miss out on what is going on but when he sleeps he is so much happier. I do wrap him so he can't play with a toy, he won't take a dummy the little bugger and as I will have to put him from the cradle to the cot soon & I can't rock the cot I need him to be in some sort of a routine before then.
So I spoke with the nurse on Monday about this as well & she gave me some info about it, the good news is that I don't leave him to cry. I have to take in steps but it basically involves me putting him in his cradle & I touch him & rock it until he goes to sleep & then in steps I don't rock him as much & then I will move onto just touching him & then leaving the room until eventually I just have to put him down & he puts himself to sleep. As we are all feeling a little better I started on Monday with some success. He normally naps in the afternoon for about 30 mins but I went in when he would normally stir & I was able to resettle him twice, that night he did wake every 2 hrs for a feed but yesturday he had 3 big sleeps through the day for about 2 hrs each time. I got him into bed @ 11.30 pm & he slept through until 5 am this morning. 5.5 hrs straight - woo hoo I felt so good when I got up to feed him & for a change I didn't fall asleep while feeding him. So I will persist & see how we go, if it doesn't work I can try something else.

Nic - Wow, 8.4kg ... I bet little Dusty is an absolutely beautiful little chubby bubba I mean "chubby" with much affection, so hope you don't mind me using the term. Sounds like he's thriving. Good on you mummy! Good to hear he had a nice long overnight sleep, good luck with establishing a night time routine, if that's what you're planning to do.
Hi to everyone else! Just wanted to quickly touch base as I'm heading up to the sunshine coast for almost a week, so no BB for a while. Man ... I can't believe the crap you've gotta take with you when you're holidaying with a baby - it's a new experience .
Hey Andie have a great trip, we went to the coast a month ago & learnt very quickly about baby time, it takes forever to get anywhere & all the stuff is just crazy. We often refer to him as budda bubba or chubba bubba so no offence taken
i thought i would post while i had something positive to say !
so on friday i decided enough was enough of the sleep dramas and really cracked down on james (in a nice loving way lol) all week he had been sleeping 45 mins and waking up then back in bed an hour later, he did it all day long, no long stretches at all and was SO cranky, he was beside himself by the evening because he wasnt getting any good deep sleep and the nights were really bad, waking 3 times between midnight when we went to bed and 5 am. i decided i was going to try and resettle him EVERY time he woke under an hour, previously we had tried to resettle but he would scream so much and with a 2 year old around it was so hard to do it consistantly and we usually ended up getting him up, he must have known mummy meant business friday because he took to it really quickly, i would basically let him cry a few mins and then go in put the dummy in rock the bassinet for 30 seconds and leave while he was still awake he would be crying again by the time i reached the door but i gave him another few mins and repeated it, he didnt carry on for longer than 20 mins (i hope this doesnt sound cruel, i hate listening to him cry but he does it anyway when awake because he is so overtired so i decided we all would benefit from it) he still always wakes after 45 mins but now it just usually having his dummy put back in once and a quick rock and he settles straight away.
sat night he woke at 0130 am and 0530 which i was happy about but lasty night fed at 9pm and then only woke at 2 am and 6 am, i was so thrilled because we were only woken once and he didnt make a peep in between those times whereas before he would keep waking all night. this morning he woke after 30 mins and i had to replace the dummy twice and he went back to sleep for over 2 hours, i was so happy !
my foot is slowly improving, what a pain (in many ways) that has been !)
Reenie: wow with Seraya crawling, James doesnt even roll yet lol although he is trying to sit up if he is put in the bouncer etc

i was topping james up after some feeds with formula, i stopped that on friday too as i didnt think it was making a difference and he hasnt missed it at all.

Hi everyone! I have been trying to post for about 4 days now! Sam has been a bit of a monster and is hardly napping during the day.It's been fairly quiet on here which is good because I'm less likely to get confused trying to reply.
My Hypnosis went well,she didn't put anything in about the smoking the first time because she wanted to see how easily I was out in a trance.Very easily it turns out.It was so strange,I knew she was talking but couldn't really concentrate on what she was saying,I was seeing all these colors behind my eyes.Going again on Friday so I'll keep you posted.
I had a rough day Monday,emotionally. I was feeling very isolated and lonely.I didn't know what to do with myself so I just kept pacing the house.That has been the only day I have felt bad though over the last week and a half.So I am getting a lot better.
Mel - I wish I had a magic word that could get you some sleep.You must be so exhausted.I hope it continues to get better for you, even though it's such a small step at least it's a start.Have been thinking of you and glad to hear from you.

Well the community nurse has started the ball rolling with his sleep & have referred me to Trisillian (sp?) so hopefully they can help. I only weighed Dusty because I was worried over the last couple weeks that he hadn't been putting on weight but as they community nurse said because he is a lot more active, ie kicking his legs & wriggling all over the place so he won't be putting on so much weight & everything is fine.
Jo, Damn childcare & it's germs but at least you are building up everyone immune system, hope your feeling well soon. GL with toilet training Riley. My sisters little boy would pee in the toilet o.k but always asked for a nappy until he was at least 4 or 5, he refused to poo in the toilet, don't know what it was & she tried everything so best of luck with that. You (& all the mums with more than 1 littlin) so need a medal, I truly don't know how I would cope at the moment with a toddler running around but I have to admit the photos of Riley & Isabella are supercute !! About the weight thing - how active is she now? does she seem happy cause I'm with Mel, IMO while she does seems tiny from the photos but she also seems really healthy & happy. Good to hear that hubby is o.k, my dad did interstate too & it really sucked but this doesn't have to be long term & it will end someday How did things go at the specialist with Riley??
Dusty has almost rolled completely over, cheeky little bugger & he is CHEWING on everything, I think he might be teething, does anyone else have any signs of teeth?

Well, Cam and I are back from our few days away up the Sunny Coast. Had a great time, was nice to get out of the house for a few days and go for walks along the beach. I think young Cammie got a bit too used to the attention though cos I had a shocking day with him yesterday - he bawled every time I was out of sight. He's better today, although my parents arrived today for a few days at our place before they continue their caravan holiday.
Cam's been a bit out of sorts on and off during the past week. I presume it was mostly to do with a different environment, sleeping in a portacot etc. While we were away he screamed the house (well, caravan) down each night at bedtime (around 8pm). And he didn't poo for days - he finally did a small one earlier this arvo - his first in 5 days. But gee, can't wait for him to do a "drought breaker" .
He's also spewing heaps during and after his feeds. Question for you all ... when your bub spews, what's it look like? When Cam spews during or straight after a feed, it's a really gluggy looking spew (almost snotty looking, iykwim). When he spews 90-120 mins AFTER a feed, it's clear with milkier looking bits through it. Anyway, it's mainly the gluggy looking spew I'm interested in ... does this sound fairly normal ?
Ah, he's now sitting on my lap after a bit of a "come and pay me some attention" cry. So, I'd better wrap up quickly.
Mel - good to hear things are going a little better for you/James. How is his sleeping now? I don't like hearing Cam cry for long either, but I'm afraid sometimes it's unavoidable (thankfully it's rare). Don't be hard on yourself though ... you don't sound cruel at all. Particularly when you've tried just about everything else to help James sleep.
Laurab - - we all have our odd bad days, and they're hard enough to get through without going through PND. Please come and "talk" to us if it helps. I reckon most of us lurk in this thread, even if we're not always posting. In other words ... we're not far away if you need us. How is Sam now? Glad to hear hypnosis is going well - good on you for giving it a go.
Nic - I'm hearing you on the chewing! Cam likes to test things with his mouth too. Hope tresillian is of assistance to you and Dusty. No sign of teeth with Cam. Guess it's just a matter of time though.

Well tonight is Pizza night in our household cause we all had a big sleep this afternoon so the washing up isn't done & there will be no cooking here either.
Andie, it is good to hear your few days away were nice, not so nice about the crying though. Those drought-breaking poos are the best I think I would rather more regular poos then saving it up like they can do. In terms of the spewing it sounds normal & just like Dusty to me. Like you said if it is just after a feed the spew is thick & mucusy if it's been awhile then it is like water with chunkier bits.... lovely...
Dusty has been a lot clinger than normal too (although ironically not when I am putting him to sleep - go figure), he cries even if I leave the room for a minute which isn't really like him. Laura said that Sam had been extra sooky too & I think I read somewhere it could be the age/developmental that they get clingy at 4 mnths - Is anyone else experiencing the same thing??
I have had some success with the sleeping thing, it seems I can leave him in the cradle when I put him down as he has discovered his voice & likes to chat for a while. He must get bored after 5 mins are he starts to cry again but then I go in & rock the cradle & he goes off to sleep so while I am still rocking the cradle it isn't as much so we are making progress
Jo, I'm glad you didn't get a ticket, damn specialist are always late which seems strange when they only seem to spend 5 mins with you I know it must seem scary that Riley has to have an operation for grommets especially as he is so young , my nephew (7 yrs) had grommets put in this year & he is hearing much better so it should help with Riley's speech - we thought the little bugger was just ignorant sometimes when he wouldn't respond to us but it turned out it was like he was living in a tunnell, poor kid.
Andie I am jealous of your weather, today was a typical bathurst winter day, rainy, windy & very, very cold, tomorrow (or today now) isn't looking much better, you can send some sunshine this way.

njd - yumm pizza. Sometimes you need to sleep and if the washing/food prep doesn't get done. I am sure your partner/hubby would rather you be happy than those things done. I know mny DH does, as I am a right biatch when I am tired. Which is all the time. He keeps trying to make me sleep - just because the circles under my eyes look like he has punched me. Don't worry it's just tiredness.
Andie - glad you had a good time away. Uh oh I hope you have a good nappy on him. and plenty of wipes on hand.
Lots has been happening here. I had a bad few nights with E - waking every 2-4hours and not settling plus on monday night we had one of those sessions where he just screamed for hours. HE had had his immunisations that day and I had given him regular panadol, no real temp, we didn't check it as it woudl have inaccurate due to his crying making him hot. On Tues/wed he didn't seem to want to feed that well either. On tuesday after waking up totally exhausted I decided it was time to stop rocking E to sleep. Plus every time I would put him down he would wake. I don't believe in letting him cry too long without me there so I put him in his cot and the first few times were bad, when he got too upset i would pick him up and he would calm down (sometimes it took a bit) and go to sleep. I would either put him down when he was almost asleep or when he was asleep. Unlike when I was rocking him he hardly stirred, or was mostly easily settled and he would sleep for an hour or longer, sometimes less.
Yesterday afternoon we had a major breakthrough, after a bad morning where he just squealed and was very unhappy I laid him in his cot (wrapped with dummy and music on) and left him for a bit. I didn't hear him for ages so I finally thought I have to check and he was ASLEEP!!!! MAjor breakthrough. He also slept for about an hour 45 when I woke him. I am finding it I will leave him and he may sing and kick the covers off, I keep putting them back on. If he isn't asleep within 15-20
mins I get him up again as long as he is happy playing on the floor no dummy until he is grizzly again and try again. So far it has worked. I am hoping it will last. He seems to sleep much better when he self settles.
I have also discovered why he may have been out of sorts - not just immunisations. We have a tooth coming through. The day carer I went to see on thurs thought he was teething - fingers in mouth, drool +++ things that I also assumed were developmental. I had seen some lumps on his gums but they weren't in the right spot, so thought they were just 'moving'. I decided to rub some bonjela on his gums, just in case, and lo and behold I felt something sharp. You can just see it - sort of clear rectangle that seems to be coming out more each day. I have heard that they can disappear, I really hope this one doesn't but I think it is through? It is so hard to get a good look.
Anyway that is all my news, I am feeling much less tired after E slept from 8, woke at 1030 for a feed, easily resettled then woke again at 415 then again at 730!!!! Woo, I better not get used to it though.
