Danni - I just watched that video of Jazz. She's so funny!! & so cute.
She sounds like a mouse squeaking away!
I went to the gym then went to the horse and just got kicked and trampled it winded me really bad not sure what damage is done still in shock, he got me in the right boob, ribs, hip and tummy :( just had a shower now going to lay down in front of the telly geez what a great day so far...
oh trina sweetie, hope you are ok.
if you need to vent, just vent in anyway. thinking of you. xoxoxxoox
danni - hope jazz will be ok. xoxox. poor baby
skye - how's jesse today?
shell - was it cold up at the mountains?
just fed poopy pumpkin and tofu, he seemed to like it. i put his narrow spoon against his top gum and leave it for a few seconds and hten slide it out. he seems to be able to swallow it and not spit out.
poopy rolled over in his sleep and slept on his tummy half the ngiht. he was ok, he slept with his cheek against the matress. so im not as worried now. once we get back, i'll start using his sleeping bag.
gotta run xoxox
trina your post just came up.
 are you going to see a doctor. oh, honey it's not fair. you were already feeling yucky. im so sorry
Trina - r u OK? Do you think you should see a doc or will you be alright?
I really hope you day gets better. Let us know how your going OK?
Hi girls,
We had a lovely afternoon in the mountains yesterday with our friends. It was really warm in the sun. DJ was great and didn't winge at all. He loved being outside in the sun. We are going up to see them again on Friday so Doni can do some electrical work for them and they are cooking us dinner.
Trina - life changing - hope all is ok with you :) and hope you feel better after the horse kicked you.
Prama - thats great on the pumpkin and tofu. When Steve sees him again he will fully be on solids :)
Everyone else, hope all is good, sorry it is a short one....

Matt got antibiotics for his cough/virus thing but coz jazz is so young she can't have any. Hopefully though if Matt gets better that will give Jazz a better chance at fighting the virus. She's generally happy, just with a bad cough.
Tonight she was really eating her food rather than playing with it. She ate all her veggies and wanted more so I gave her pured apples. At first she made a face coz it was different to what she's had, she quickly decided she liked it and ate most of that too.
Danni - thats strange? Jesse's on Amoxil antibiotics.
I think Bri had them for the first time at about 8 weeks old. Jazz should be able to have them.
Hi guys,
FYI antibiotics dont work against virus's, only bacterial infections.
It is possible that Matt has a bacterial chest infection hense the anti's, but Jazz has a cold which is Viral and the antis wont work with them... even though they may look like they both have the same infection, it could be different.
Also babies at this age cough a lot due to their dribble, they dont manage it as well as we do and therefore they cough a lot more as it trickles down the back of their throats...
Has anyone looked into Baby led solids? I am thinking of heading down this path instead of the mashed/puree foods. think that it is more the way i would like to do things.
Trina hope you are OK
Hi everyone else
Sorry its a short one.
feeling tired and run down
Osteo with MJ tomorrow
I am ok everyone thanks xoxox got kicked in the boobie not sure if that can damage milk ducts??? anyone know?? as well as ribs stomach etc i was so upset esp after having other dramas just before it all. Was very upset that this horse is SUPER quiet and the kids walk around him all the time and it was just a freak thing that frightened him and if it was them it would have done some major damage cos he is so big.
Might be asking the obvious but what is baby led solids SJ? sounds interesting.
Jazz would be allowed anti's if needed might be viral like sj said.
Summer's teeth are clearly visible now they are very very cute, still bothering her as they have to push all the way up so still lots of dribble, chewing and red cheeks, luckily no sore bottom and/or the runs
I'm off to clean the house seems to be a nightly ritual i have at the mo.... gets it all done when all are in bed and it's quiet.
Trina - glad your feeling better.
Have no idea if that could've done something to your milk or not.
Hope those teeth come through soon.
Danni - yeah thats true about the viral/bacterial thing. Antibiotics only work if its bacterial.
SJ - I'm with Trina. What are baby led solids??
Hope things go well tomorrow.
Shell - Soulds like you had a really good weekend. Lucky you!
Prama - Jesse is feeling heaps better. Thanks. Hopefully his sleep will be better tonight too.
Yeah, it's viral so antibiotics wont work. Matt said that the doctor said that it looks/sounds like they both have the same thing, but there has been no research on suitable treatments for babies hense why Matt got prescribed something and Jazz didn't. I ended up ringing the parent helpline to find out if there is anything they could suggest to help relieve her sore throat but they just suggested all the things I'm doing: panadol, vaporizer, very small amounts of cough medicine. I'm happy she can have the medicine. it's not recommended for children under 12 months, but the pharmisist and doctor at work looked into it and said that it would be fine to give her 0.3ml twice a day. I give it first thing in the morning and just before bed. There is a bit of alcohol in it which I guess helps her sleep so I don't mind that.
They both have to go back to the doctor on Thursday.
While Matt's still feeling bad, I'm gonna try doing the overnighters even though I have work in the morning. Shouldn't be too bad though. Apart from last night, she sleeps all night anyway. Ah well, I've started drinking coffee almost every day since I've started working. I used to only drink it every few months.
hmmmm.. the suspense thickens.. what is baby led solids?
trina - do get some rest.. did you go see a doctor? is summy chewing on teething rings etc?
danni - when lakshman was sick and the paed said eh had viral infection, she gave him some anti-histamines, but still said it would take abty 10 days to get better.
poopy did a pumpkin poo just now.. eeeewwwwww
oh yes, danni - he also got a cough mixture, which helped.
OK -I think that maybe it sounds more exciting than you think
im not an expert as i have only just started to read into it - but from what i can understand, basically you give you baby more soild foods in fingers. they learn to chew straight away and eat the same veggies and fruit that you would.
They also feed themselves, as aposed to us feeding them - the thought is that they will not put in their mouth what they are not ready for.
Also there is evidence that they become less fuss eaters and regulate their nutrient intake better as they crave and chose foods that they need.
Here is a link to one of the sites that i have been reading up on.
What is baby-led weaning?
There is more info, that can be found by googling it Also there are a couple of threads on here that have been started.
Let me know what you all think
SJ - Thats really interesting. I think I'll look more into it.
I think I was giving vegemite toast to the girls by about 6 months, but they were having pureed foods too.Maybe I'll put him in his walker tomorrow & put a bit of mash on the tray, just to see how he goes. I won't try finger foods til he's over 6 months though.
It sounds easier too. Instead of cooking, mashing & feeding them, he could have pretty much the same as us & feed himself - even if he doesn't eat much yet.
I'm definetely going to give it a go.
Morning
Anyone else found that your bubs ahve started waking at night?
MJ wakes at around 2am EVERY night now for a feed, sometimes if she doesnt make it, it is 12am AND 6am ahhhhh it was better when she was newborn. To start with i thought that maybe is was the one off, but it hs continued for more than a week now and she is genuinly hungry at that time.
I hope solid introduction will help, but i am not hopeful
Off to MG and Osteo today... will let you know how i go
Trina - dont know about the milk ducts and the injury, but if you find feeding painful or notice any blood go see a DR immediatly
I hope you are feeling better now, you must be so sore
Morning girls,
Just a short one from me, need to feed DJ the rest of his milk before I can't give it to him anymore.
SJ - yeah DJ now waking at 4am every morning instead of his usual 5-6am feeding time. He is starting to like farex now, we can do 1 teaspoon, as long as I mix a little pureed apple or pear in it he will eat it. Good luck at osteo, let us know how it goes.
Trina - hope you are feeling better from the horse kicking you..... they are a bit unpredictable. I remember falling off a horse and hitting a tree when I was younger, and you know what it didn't stop me from going horseriding.... I love horseriding, well when I could. Now with bub, can never do it.... I don't own a horse so need to go somewhere for horseriding.
I better go, chat soon

Jazz has started waking up lots during the night, but I think that's due to her cough. Last night I decided I'd be on baby duty even though I have work today. Figured it's better if I get up than Matt at the moment because he'll probably just make her even more sick at the moment. But she decided to get up at 12, then 1, then 4, then 6! I took a bottle of water in to her in the hopes that water would help stop the tickle in her throat. Tonight no matter what, I need Matt to deal with her. I'm totally wrecked this morning. Time for a coffee to charge me up so I can work.
We decided that I would teach her "mum mum" and Matt would teach her "dad dad" so she associates those words with the right person. I was doing lots of "mum mum mum" last night and she was trying to copy but it came out more of a "ummmmmm ummmmmmmm brrrrrr eeeeee" but then without making sounds she was trying to move her mouth the same way mine moves when I say mum. Last night when she was waking up she was calling "umm umm" almost as if she was trying to call "mum"
Dani they often learn to say dad first because mum's are usually at home saying dad will be home soon. Maybe when Matt has her more often during the week he'll be saying mum will be home soon so she'll learn to say mum first ;).
SJ I'm looking at baby led solids as well. With DS1 I did all the puree and stuff but he really didn't eat anything until he was 8 months so rather than I'll probably follow Paddy's lead.
Trina I hope you're feeling better. Paddy has just started waking at about midnight for the last couple of days. The other night he slept till 2 then up every hour after that . It's exhausting when you're used to sleeping till 6. I tried shoving the dummy in but felt really guilty when I heard his tummy grumble so he must really be hungry. Hopefully it's a growth spurt.
Skye I hope Jesse is feeling better. Their first sore throat must be very confusing for them.
Hope everyone else is well.
I'm confused, when you are all talking about baby led solids, are you talking about actual food that needs to be chewed or pureed food? I thought pureed was "solids" I didn't think it was good to give proper food to babies this age (then again, I don't know when to give proper food).
Danni - if you read the link it explains how pureed foods were originally introduced at 3 months, then 4 months. By 6 months when they recommend introducing solids now, babies should be past the pureed food stage & onto more finger foods.
It's supposed to help them be less fussy as they suggest babies who are on purees from 6 months wait too long to start chewing foods & therefore when they are older prefer foods that don't require chewing.
Not sure about that part of it, but it is true that when I started the girls at 4 months they were on purees & eating toast & stuff at about 6 months. Even baby foods at 6 months used to be a bit lumpier than they are now.
Oh ok. Thanks. I thought it would hurt the gums if they had chewable food before they had teeth...certainly can tell I'm a first time mum!
trina - how are you today? hope you're not too sore. xoxoxo
i think i'll just let feeding run it's course. he seems happy enough eating pureed food, and we've had potatoes, carrots, pumpkin, tofu, tomato, and rice cereal so far. when i get back im going to try lumpier food.
yes, poopy's waking up 4,5am for the last couple of weeks, plus him rolling in his sleep is driving me crazy. i woke up at 1.45am and saw him sleeping on his tummy and was checking on his every so often. he's fine, cos he has his cheek against the mattress but im just paranoid. im going to put him in his sleeping bag when we get back so i wont worry about him getting tangled in his wrap.
im teaching Lakshman to say 'amma' which is tamil for mummy. and steve hasnt decided if he wants to be daddy or 'appa'(tamil for daddy) so i jokingly call him appa. the other day, steve was talking to lakshman on the phone, and as usual he has a big smile then proceeds to eat the phone. i hung up and picked lakshman up and he said 'Appa'!! i was really surprised, i repeated 'appa' and he giggled.
so there, he said daddy first. hehe. but when he's upset, he cries and goes 'ummmmaaaa' i hope he's calling for me!!
Ok, just read some stuff about introducing solids and if I'm understanding correctly, it should be ok for me to mash up some food to give Jazz. Perhaps we should buy more vegetables and I'll just get the barmix out and puree/moosh the same veggies we are having. One of the things I was reading is that a good indicator of when a baby is ready for solids is when they start to show an interest in what is on your dinner plate and start trying to reach for it. Jazz has been doing that for about a month. I'll tell Matt that we are going to make an effort to eat more veggies and to include Jazz in our meal time...which means we'll have to clear off the dinner table so we can eat at the table again. He's been pulling computers and things apart and they're all over the table.
With mashed up food, one thing I wanted to ask: I add milk and butter to mashed potato - is that ok for our aged babies or should I mash a little with nothing added and put that aside for Jazz before adding the milk and butter? Maybe add a bit of water to make it easier to mash?
danni - i add a spoon of formula and water to the pureed food. sometimes just a dot of butter. i read in Baby Love that a dot of butter is ok, just make sure it's unsalted.
How many times a day are you giving your babies food? I'm currently only doing it at tea time when we get home from day care. My sister told me once a day is fine until she is looking for more. Considering she's at day care 5 days a week, I think I might have to ask them to let me know if she's satisfied after a bottle or drinking it all and looking for more food/drink. I might use that as an indicator of whether or not to tell daycare they can offer her pureed vegetables or fruit if she wants it during the day.
Danni - I just use full cream cows milk. Unless you think she'll be intolerant to it it should be OK.
When I mash our potato, I put in milk, then get his out before I put butter in it. I'll usually put a bit more milk in his too. We have heaps of butter & just a drop of milk - how Anthony likes it.
I broke a bit off my banaba this morning & let him get a bit off with his gums. He really enjoyed it, but it was too slippery for him to hold, so I had to hold it for him.
I used to buy a whole seperate lot of veggies for Bri. Most of them I wouldn't even eat!
Potatoe, pumpkin, squash, broccoli, cauliflour. Sometimes peas & corn & sometimes carrot.
Avocado is a good first food too. I was going to buy some yesterday, but I forgot.
Danni - I think once is enough for now. Jesse is still only having bits here & there. Not every day yet.
Thanks. Skye.
I think I'll visit the fruit & vege shop and make some mooshed up food and freeze it over the weekend. It'll probably work out much cheaper than buying jars and tins of food.
Sorry, so many questions: at this age it's best not to mix foods isn't it? So I shouldn't really combine say cauliflower and carrot together should I? I should just offer either one or the other is that right? I'm so clueless about all this!
danni - you can combine different vegies. they say(from books and MCN) carrots, potatoes and pumpkin are good first foods and you can combine them. you can go with any vegies, broccoli, cauliflower, even green leafs. fruits - avoid once that are acidic like oranges etc. pears, apples are ok.
ive been combining foods for lakshman for the last week. gave him pumpkin and tofu yesterday. gave him pumpkin and carrots this morning, and am giong to give him a little rice cereal this evening.
he has a breastfeed now at 5am when he first wakes up, then another at 7ish/8. then his meal at 10ish. if he has a lot then i skip his bottle till about 12ish, 1.
i dont think there;s a fixed rule when they can have 2 meals. from what ive read, after the first week you can give them 2 meals. at the end of the month, when he's been on solids for about 4 weeks im going to try lumpier food.
so far this is my plan, vegies in the morning and rice cereal in the evening. i might alternate vegies and fruits in the morning, or add vegies in the rice cereal in teh evening.
yoghurt - full fat w/o sugar, just plain is good for them too instead of custard.
i might give a teaspoon later today to see how he goes.
by the end of august, i think i will start him on 3 meals a day.
im also thinking of introducing fish in a couple of weeks, and then chicken. red meat will be harder to digest.
my friend recommended baby and toddler meals by robin barker to give you ideas of meals to make. but in a few mths they will ahve similar food to us.

Hiya
The baby led solids is a whole different way of thinking... no mashed up foods at all as the theory is that they should not be eating anything until they can tolerate it themselves...
WHO (world health organisation) recommends that food is not started until babies reach 6 months as their digestive system is not yet ready.
If you are going down the BLS track, you would prepare several different veggies and give them all to bubba - say a broccoli, caulifower stalk - you know what i mean, a finger of carrot and patoato... that way they can choose what they want to eat and apparently they will select the food that they need at that time, as in they may need the minerals and vitamins from the carrot on night so will chow down on a finger or tw, but the next night prefer the potato.
The idea is that you par boil or steam the veggies so that they are still slighty firm.
I think that i will start a thread on it, i will post a link once im done.
Saw the Osteo today, going back Friday to, MJ has a rotated spine and needs a little work, hopefully 2 session will do her and then she will give us some exercises to do at home.
Chat later :)
Well I've got broccoli, cauliflour, potatoe & carrot all cooking.
I know he's a month too young yet, but I might just see how he goes.
He'll probably just turf the lot on the floor.
Good evening girls,
Hope you are all well :) DJ is in bed and I am off to bed shortly myself. Doni is in Griffith/Wagga for work so a few nights alone for me and DJ :)
SJ - that is good to hear that only two sessions and MJ will be right again. I bet you were relieved.
Prama - sounds like poopy is eating really well for his first solid foods. I have just started DJ on some rice cereal and pureed fruit - he loves the fruit though. I want to try vegetables next. So far no allergic reactions so all good. Just taking it one step at a time. This weekend I am going to cook up a heap of veges for DJ.
Danni - making your own baby food will work out so much cheaper, I have a few jars in the cupboard only for when we are travelling or something when I can't take the fresh stuff.
Skye - good to know avocado is a good first food too, I have some in the fridge, waiting for it to ripen though, still very hard.
Teach - I know what you mean about being woken up earlier than the normal scheduled time... DJ normally wakes at 5-6am and now is waking anytime between 3-4am arghhh those extra few hours make a difference too.
Well girls I better head to bed, have a great night.
Cheers
Shell xx
Just so you know. If you do buy the jars of baby food, you can wash them up & reuse them. Thats how I used to do it. I used to have 6 - 8 jars in the freezer.
Thanks everyone for your info about solids.
Jazz wasn't interested in eating last night. I wanted to wait until we were having dinner so she could eat at the same time and start learning about family meal time. But she got too tired and all she wanted was a bottle. I might try giving her about 50ml of bottle to satisfy for a short time before I give her food coz I really want her to eat at the same time as us.
I didn't BF at all last night or this morning. I'm feeling fine, not really feeling full at all. I'll see how I go today. I may need to express later. I haven't BF since yesterday at 6am so it's been more than 24 hours and I'm doing fine. Maybe it's over now. (could be time to treat myself to some sexy bras. Matt said he wants to come with me when I go shopping for them and pick out something nice).
Hi danni - in all the info that i have read, regardless of whether you are going to start the mushed food or the harder stuff, you should give you baby a full feed first and then let them pick at the food.
This way they get to cntrol the milk and fluid they get.
HTH
MJ has a cold this morning, her uncle gave it to her and he feels sooo bad.
Was awake at midnight and again at 4am - took an hour at 4 to get her off.
She is sleeping now, got a health visit today so will get her weighed and measured.
Going to tell her about her hips and leg and see what she thinks
have a good one every one.
Trina - all ok?
Brn - how are you? havent heard from you in a while, your Mum and Dad back yet
I'm ok thanks SJ xoxox
I am so cold today can't warm up.... Had a bath but ran out of hot water  Have Tahnie home today had Paige home yesterday can't wait for warmer weather.
Hope everyone is having a good day
I hope MJ gets better quick
Jazz's cough is getting even worse and she's dry reaching when she has a coughing fit! Her "voice" is sounding horse now too.
Her and Matt are off to the doctor again tomorrow.
Oh, and today I feel like I'm getting the cough too! (great!)
sj - hope appt goes well. what can or is there anything needed to be done for mj's hips?
trina - hope your feeling better
shell - lol so much for food going well. poopy didnt like his rice+lentils+tomato.
maybe cos he had pumpkin the last couple of days and this wasnt sweet.
thats why, i suppose, they say give vegies first then introduce fruits cos if they get use to sweet stuff they wont want blander stuff.
i just realised that i have training on the tues i come back and paed appt the tues after. which brings us into sept. does that mean i wont see you at all, cos you start work in sept, dont u.
danni - how's the feedign going.. hope you dont get sick eitehr. xoxo
he's also been restless today. kid woke up at 2am and finally went to sleep at 4.30. i was so tired and upset. i rang steve at 4.30(6.30 sydney time). each time i put he down, he'd wake up w a big smile. he ahd 2 bopb feeds aswell.
