Jo - I know exactly what you mean! Those bloody preachers, and its usually the 'preachers' that will completly ignore you and pick bubs up! Bla people! I am not a people person today!
With the bumbo, Like anything your not leaving them in there for a great deal of time, so they are still getting floor, belly time etc... So i don't think it will have any effect...
I'm going to have a little vent here! My Dp (Izzy's dad) has 2 other boys (3-4) from a previous relationship, now they were doing share care of the boys 7days eacha fortnight untill the other night, when the boys mother rang up and said she can not handle the eldest boy and if tim can have him (she wants to sign full custody over to tim) this part is great!!! the boys desearve better then there mother... what i have found sooo difficult is i was talking to locky last night, and he told me his mummy dosnt want him anymore, and he dosent know why, poor lil kid was so upset and confused - i gave him biggg cuddles and told him his mummy loves him very much, and he just shook his head no!!! i'm so sad and angry a little kid can be made to feel like that! its not fair!!!
Karina - I know what you mean, I can't let Grace just cry it out. I'm ok if it is grizzles and doesn't go on for too long but once she starts really crying I have to pick her up. Poor thing. You need to do what you feel comfortable with - I think if you are standing there feeling horrid for not picking her up then you probably should pick her up. Vent as much as you want. Luckily so far DH and I have had pretty similar parenting techniques. Actually, I think the only thing that I would do differently is that DH is quick to run to Grace if she should stir and sometimes I think we need to leave her a bit to see if she will just go back to sleep - I am guilty of it too though, but I have suggested to him that we wait a bit as she is allowed to make noises!
Cass - that poor little boy. It must break your heart to hear him say that to you. What can you say to make it better though? I hope he can get passed it poor thing. How's Izzy doing today? Still happy? The photo albums sound nice. I really liked your idea for her 18th birthday.
Jo - that would be horrible to hear him screaming like that. I hate it when Grace cries in the car as you feel so helpless cause you can't do anything to settle them (luckily this doesn't occur very often for us as Grace loves being in the car). How is the jump jump going? That comment is so true. I love it that when Grace is upset generally she will settle with either me or DH. It is so nice to know that she feels happy and contented with us (and safe) that she will settle. With the bumbo's, I was actually wondering about their sitting...will it delay them learning to sit upright on their own because they are sitting being supported now and don't really have to work too hard to remain up right? It was just a thought that crossed my mind. I assume that it would probably be the same as with the crawling that they wouldn't be in it all the time so it shouldn't be a problem.
Grace seems to have added in an extra feed overnight now, I assume that maybe BM isn't sustaining her for as long now. That's fine, if she needs the extra feed then no problem, i'm assuming this is the path we will be following until she tells us that it's time for food, this is when I reckon that the extra feed won't even help. Because of waking for this extra feed I have been rather tired recently but I will get used to it. i think it is just taking a bit as we got rather comfortable with being able to sleep for longer periods overnight, but you deal with these things don't you! DH went back to work today after having 5 weeks off so that was weird. We had a nice little routine happening and now I have to try and get my routine back from before his holiday, not disimilar but just have to remember how to do it on my own. Having said that, a month is along time in their little lives and she has changed so much in that time - the biggest thing being that she doesn't need to be entertained the whole day, I can actually leave her for periods on her own and she will entertain herself, this helps.
Graces biggest fascination at the moment is with her dummy. She pulls it out of her mouth, stares at it, turns it around and tries to stick it back in her mouth so I fix it up and out it comes again. It is very cute to watch and she is absolutely fascinated. Often I will be holding her when she does this and eventually she just drifts off to sleep. She has also learnt how to do some lipsmacking lately and just sits there making that noise, it is rather bizarre. I was a wee bit concerned at first so I spoke to my mum and she said it was normal - just another noise that she knows how to make.
Had morning tea with Jess, Tate and Aidan today. Got some gorgeous photo's of Grace and the boys, will put them on my site soon so I'll let you know when they are up. Probably head down to Target tomorrow to check out their toy sale and try and organise something for christmas for Grace. Anyway, having an early night tonight so hope everyone is well and speak soon.
Rachel, whats lipsmacking?? never heard of it before (i must be sheltered!!) I am also happy to let Claire grizzle a little bit, but I cant just let her lie there on her own crying her little eyes out. Poor little thing.
Mum came over tonight and spent some time with us. Claire thought it was a hoot and spent most of the time having a good old laugh. She is laughing so much now, so cute! She also brought over some clothes she bought for Claire so now I have a few extra warm clothes including pants with feet, which are so handy as her socks always fall off.
Just finished making some cookies for mothers group tomorrow. OMG its soooo hard to not just shove them all in my mouth. I only ate one but theyre so moreish that its hard to control myself! I had also forgotten how tasty cookie dough is!!! yum!
Well...i don't know what we did different last night but Grace went down and didn't wake up until 6am!!!! Then I fed her and she went back down at 7.15 and is only just starting to stir. So I am completely baffled, lol.
Karina, lipsmacking...how do I explain (that was DH descriptive word). You know when you purse your lips, sort of pull them into your mouth then let them go and it makes a pop noise? Don't know how to descirbe it, hee hee. Glad Claire had a good time with your mum. My poor mum is having a rough time at the moment because everytime she holds Grace, Grace cries! Very bizarre. At first we thought it was a coincidence but now I'm not so sure as my sister was holding her the other day and she was fine, then my mum got her and she cried so mum gave her back to my sister and she stopped crying...weird, but my poor mum is starting to feel rather rejected. Any suggestions? I thought it may be my mum's perfume, she doesn't think so but I think we need to start trying different things. If we can't get this sorted it out it will be a very long 5 days in queensland!
Enjoy mother's group...we're going to check out the target sales later, i hope it's not too caotic!
rachel, there is not much i can say to him, just breaks my heart to hear him say it! Just extra cuddles given izzy's doing well thanks, a little more cranky then usual well actually a lot more cranky then usually she cried an cried all day yesterday, and when i finally get her to sleep on me if i tried to move her she would wake straight away, it was a very draining day - But then ... she slept from 6.30pm to 5.30am this morning! And seems to be in a happy mood... I think thats our cycle atm, one good day, one bad day, one good day etcetc...
Rachel, yeah i know what lipsmacking is now hahah. Claire does it too and she will wake in the middle of the night and start making this noise. My DH calls is "sucky noise" lol. Your poor mummy that Grace cried when she holds her. I dont really know what to suggest.. my mum makes a big excited fuss everytime she holds Claire and Claire seems to think its so funny. She also has a book she loves so if she is with someone unfamiliar we giver her book and she plays with it and sometimes doesnt even notice she is getting passed around. If we do pass her around, we need to make sure she is sitting in such a way that she can see other people (eg facing outwards) otherwise she gets sooo cranky. I guess it could be the perfume though, I have sometimes talked to someone who has really strong perfume and you feel suffocated!!
Ohhh I am such a dork. I thought my mothers group were meeting at 11 today but it was actually 10 and by the time I got around to going into my email to get the address, it was already 11:15 and I felt bad that I would be showing up at least an hour and a half late so I didnt end up going. I even made cookies - choc chip ones!!! I'm so dumb!
Last edited by Karina; July 19th, 2007 at 05:02 PM.
Karina... lol now you get ALL the cookies Send some to me!! hehe. Don't feel dumb, it's so easy to get times wrong. I did it the other day so it's all good You know, it could be your mum's perfume.
Now... I'm going to apologise up front cos I can't remember what was said in the old thread!! I know there was something I was going to respond to, but my brain is on strike...well at least the memory part of it is.
Cass, I hope that your step son is feeling a bit better. You're right, lots of extra cuddles to make him know that he's wanted. Maybe make some cookies or something with him?? I can't believe that his mother would even let him know that she feels like that... I mean, if she's not coping good on her for realising this and trying to fix it... BUT... don't let your poor little boy ever think it's his fault IYKWIM. I don't know if you're near any of the Healthy Pharmacy chemists (apparently used to be called E Pharmacy)... anyway, they have boxes of Huggies for $30 at the moment. If you go online to whitepages... search for Healthy Pharmacy and it will come up.
Rachel, I think you meant me not Jo...lol. He has still got to get the hang of the jump jump, but thought it was rather cool to be seeing things from a different perspective. Not laying down or sitting!! Re: bumbo's... it's like anything if you leave them in one position they'll get over it anyway before they've been there "too long". Andy said that he's noticed Oskar is a lot better with his head control now... maybe that's cos of the bumbo?? I wouldn't think it impedes development in any way. I gotta say though that he eyes off the cat's tail when he walks past... better watch out as he gets better with his coordination and grabbing cos I reckon he's going to just reach out and grab it one day...lol... and yup, I'll be laughing my head off when it happens.
Rachel, how'd you go at the sale?? I decided to steer clear today. I might go tomorrow arvo cos I want to see the high chair they had for half price... oh and those soft toy thingys with the cloth book... they look cool! He'd get that now though...lol. Way to go Grace!! She might just have times when she's more hungry?? Growth spurts?
OMG Oskar has grown so much!! He's grown..... a MASSIVE 15 cm since birth!! No wonder his clothes are getting small so fast! I was naughty today...hehe I went to pumpkin patch and got the most gorgeous things... I got a cute little hooded jacket and a long sleeve tee (same colours... a brown and burnt orange - rock n roll ...Andy will LOVE that) and a collared button up long sleeve shirt... SO CUTE! Half price for the lot We have our a/c being put in tomorrow... how exciting!! Downside is that instead of coming at 7:30am they're now coming at 7!! Oskar is usually feeding then! Not only that, they'll probably be here earlier I reckon. Oh well, at least something good comes out of it
Cass omg 15 cm! go Oskar! How cute are Pumpkin Patch clothes! oh you dont want any cookies. They're not that nice .. jk!! Woohoo for air con, hopefully the guy doesnt come too early.
Caro, how you feeling today?
Claire has just been asleep and woke up and has been talking to herself for the last 20mins. I just went into her room to get her and found that she had wiggled so much that her pants had come off!! No wonder she was talking so much - she was trying to tell me to come in and put pants on her.
ooh i just made a flickr photo website. I have one with photosite, but they are shutting down so I've got myself another one. I'll post the link when I work out what the link is (me=techno-idiot).
Karina - whoops! Not to worry, mmmm cookies, I want some now! We have our photo's through flickr. It can be confusing but I think I'm getting the hang of it so it won't take you long. The link I have is a guest pass as I have made all of our photo's private. I can't imagine the problem with my mum is due to being unfamiliar as she has seen my mum at least once a week since she was born which is far more often than my sister and she didn't cry with her. It's a mystery.
Cass - I wanted to have a look at those toy book things but I forgot! There were so many people there that it was ridiculous and the toys were absolutely everywhere - I got trapped at one stage as the lay by line was so long that it made a fence! I had to push my way out. People are so rude and pushy too - this woman with a trolley just barreled past me and rammed into the pram with Grace in it, I was so suprised and just wanted to make sure Grace was ok - she was lucky otherwise i would have given her a piece of my mind. We were going to layby some stuff but the line was ridiculously long that I just got it - we got a baby grand piano and had to put one of those soft fold out lounge thingy's on as a raincheck (can you believe they had sold out of girly ones in an hour!). My DH was at work and I rang him to come down and help me as I couldn't carry them and push the pram! Next time I think I would leave Grace at home with DH and go by myself, it would be much easier! Grace has been watching our cats a lot lately too - I wonder if it is something in their developement that makes them take not of cats now? WTG Oskar on your growth! Grace has grown 15.5cm since birth! Unbelievable isn't it. Yay on the clothes, sounds so gorgeous.
We had a great day today - Grace was awake the entire time between her 9 and 12 feed today, then slept from 1.15pm to 4.15pm - that is a record sleep for Grace in the day. Only problem was that I didn't expect it so I didn't get anything done as I thought she was going to wake at any moment! Oops. Fingers crossed for another good night . Goodnight.
Boo hoo I lost the thread, I thought it had been quite for a while!
Cass_blob - hope izzy is feeling better for you soon
Karina - That happens to me ALL the time. I went to my 6wk check up the day before I was suppose to :-) Hope you enjoyed the cookies
Rachel- woohoo of Grace's sleep. Ari would cry everytime her GG (great grandma) held her because of her perfume, so GG stopped wearing it. So cute how much power babies have :-)
Cass - oh Pumkin Patch, don't tempt me :-) Bet Oskar looks gorgeous.
Went to the target sale today to get Ari some 'sitting up toys' as she can sit by herself quite well but is still really wobbly. Unfortunately didn't get the catalogue delivered so just took her in the HAB and grabbed what I could, man it was crazy. Going back tomorrow for the bigger stuff (trampoline for DS, oh and I would love to get that wooden playground but don't think it would move well with us)
Ari is getting back to her normal self but Ari had some solids today. Dh likes to give her tastes of food, just a lick off his finger which drives me batty but today he gave her some pumkin and she lapped it up. he just kept mashing it and giving it to her and she at it all! no tongue pushing problems or anything, so now I'm really confused.
Anywho house work ain't gonna do it's self I guess :-)
Just letting you all know, hubby and I enjoyed the cookies immensely. I am such a pig that there are now none left. Sugar overload, i think!! I would ahve shared with you all, but well, i am just GREEDY!
Good thing though is Claire is still asleep. She went for sleep at about 8pm and is still soudnly asleep and since my boobies are used to feeding every 2 hours they are feeling pretty firm and full! Might need to express soon so I dont start leaking. Except the annoying thing is that as soon as I have finished expressing, she wakes up!
Caro, yay that your daughter loved the fairies, but omg what a bummer about the rain and silly machine! Wow M has really grown heaps! Claires 65cm long, 40cm head and 5.6kg! I was talking to a random peson in COLES the other day who told me his 4 month old is 8.9 kg and I was just thinking OMG I cant imagine Claire being that big right now!!
Rachel, oh i want to get one of those fold out lounge things too! I would have totally given that woman such a dirty! I hate people like that! People are so violent and crazy during sales, arent they! Oh yah, re not getting anything done because you think she is about to wake - I have done that heaps of times too! Hope Grace sleeps well tonight.
Sarah, yay about Ari sitting up well! Claire is still wobbly too but she is almost there. OMG I am just not going to even go anywhere near Target! It sounds chaotic, and hubby is not good with crowds.
Does anyone else have people calling their baby by the incorrect sex? I had a guy come up to me and tell me "what a beautiful little boy, how old is he?" and Claire was wearing pink pants! Maybe she looks unisex?

Cass and Caro- She didn't exactly say how she felt, just that she couldn't handle him... Which he has believed to be her not loving him... Which isn't the case... I agree that she did the right thing in saying she wasn't coping, Lochy has been a particularly naughty boy since the seperation, coz he wanted to live with his dad... So the only people he will behave for is me and Tim.. He has to go back to his mums tonight for the weekend (every 2nd weekend they have agreed on) and he is NOT impressed, we already had screaming matches yesterday... And i have no idea how to make it better ?!?!
Cass - Oh thanks ill have to have a look
Sarah - How's Ari? thats good Ari had no problems with her solids... Izzy's quite happy atm, she's in her rocker talking to her toys hehe its quite amusing!
Well me and a friend decided to go into the crazy target sales last night, thinking omg its going to be packed! We decided to go to one of the smaller target shops, and it was wonderful! We got everything we wanted, wasn't busy at all, and walked straight up to the layby line... They just bagged all your stuff up, put your sticker on it, and away you goo...
I also got Izzy a babycare monitor because she's moving into her own room, just gotta finish painting her cot... Putting her name on the top rail with some pretty flowers
Yes karina! I have got that, with izzy dressed entirely in pink!
Hi girls, really shouldn't be on here but am holding Ari's hand so she can sleep, she was up most of the night last night after finally going down calmly at 7:30pm (ie not stirring every 5 min) She slept until 1am ha a feed then grizzed the rest of the night. No idea why, sometimes I thik she was awake and cooing but as we both have colds (like your Caro - no voice can completely understand your frustration) it sounded like screeching as her voice is all funny. Ended up a bit of a domestic as DH offered to take her only to put her in her cot with the mobile on (in the dark - duh) then fall asleep again of course not stirring when she started crying - grrrrr.
Cass_blob woohoo on the nice calm Target. Just wonering does Izzy have solids at every meal? I think I will just see how we go tonight in case it was a fluke. Have fun painting the cot sounds lovely
Karina - oh I so wanted one of those cookies! Yes we get that with Ari all the time people thinking she's a boy , but then it doesn' help when I call her Xander by mistake.
Off to buy clothes for little miss fatty as she is now in 0's
Sarah - she has baby rice in morning and a vegie at night, i offer them to her after she has had booby, and sometimes she eats all, 1/2, none just depeends...
Karina, I don't need the cookies anyway, I've been so naughty lately...lol. I ate half of the milky bar choc (large block) and I've eaten 3/4 packet of shortbread over the past 3 days....mmmm I have problems!! lol PMSL @ Claire losing her pants!!! How funny is that....muuuum put my duds back on will ya!!!
Rachel, I would've said EXCUSE YOU TOO!! lol. It's good Grace was ok though. Oskar does that all the time too!! Last 2 mornings he's slept 2 hours after first feed instead of his 1 hourish... so yup, nothing extra done cos I find I keep checking every 5 - 10 mins to see if he's awake yet!
Sarah...yay for Ari sitting up!! She would look so cute, I love that wobble...hehe. Awww you're not having a good time with the sleeping ... or lack there of are you. I don't know what to possibly suggest for you and Ari Sorry, I wish I could help you.
Cass, with Lochy going to his mum's... it is a hard one.. but maybe something like it's only 2 days out of every 14 so that he sees that it is a lot less than he's with you and Tim?? I think that his mum might need to give him some cuddles and tell him she does love him but that she could see he was missing his dad so much she thought that maybe he would like it better if he only visited her instead of living with her??
Caro...lol @ height. Oskar has rotunda legs (as Andy calls them)...lol. I think Oskar's head was 42 yesterday?? So you might want to recheck Michael's. People laugh cos it sounds funny, but I know what you mean.. it hurts and it's not funny to you!! I hope you feel better soon
Got my a/c and it's nice and toasty warm upstairs now!! Problem is computer is downstairs and it's FREEZING! My hands are slowly turning to ice and my fingers are finding it harder to type...lol. Oh well one day I might have saved enough to do downstairs too. Oskar is only really consistent twice a day with his sleeping... that's in the morning, usually wakes between 6:30 and 7:30 and goes to bed between 8 and 9:30pm.... in between that ... well, that kinda depends on if I'm out or not, but he's just gone back to 2 hour sleep the past 2 days after his first feed - so waking around 9:30 and then he had a sleep just before at around 11:15 for approx. 1 hour and I got him up and brought him down with me. So, even when I'm at home it depends he can go on average about 2 hours before he starts to grizzle too much.. I chuck him on the boob and then put him down.
He actually slept through them drilling and banging this morning... I thought... OMG he's going to wake up and ran to check, but nope, out like a little light he was.
I don't know if this is all Babies Galore stores (definitely Brissy though) they have 10 - 30% off everything in store at the moment... not sure for how long, I am being too lazy to go upstairs and check that detail...lol. We're going to get Oskar's car seat (he's still in capsule from Ambulance) this weekend seeing as we get it cheaper now!!
I haven't had Oskar in his new clothes yet, just washed them and about to hang them out... I wanted to put them on but thought I'd better wash them.
Caro and Cass.. have either of you received the bumbo tray yet?? I haven't as yet and I thought that it should be here by around today. I've emailed the person, waiting on a reply.
