Thanks for the comments Tan and Ashlee!

Ashlee, it was that Heinz organic rice cereal, same thing I guess, I only saw farex at coles last night, safeway only had the Heinz one and now I realize what it is Blakes pics look adorable too! What size did you say he was in now? That tigger jj is fantastic, where do you get it from? Sorry to hear he has a viral infection, I hope it clears up soon. Did you get antibiotics to clear it up? You look after yourself hun

I tried again this morning to give him the rice cereal and he didn't like it today so it got put away. Fine by me, it feels strange not to be feeding him from the breast anyway. Next time he shows an interest in our food I might give it another go but I think he satisfied his curiosity for now.

ETA - I weighed Noah yesterday and at 12 weeks he is 6.3kg I cannot believe how fast he is growing, I reckon he is having a growth spurt as well because he is feeding frequently again, I also roughly measured his length and it was 62cm, I hope he doesn't get my short gene but he is in the 75th percentile so far so it doesn't look like he inherited it

Sarah, Blake is now 7.8kg or 17lb 4oz and is in some 000 (about 5 things lol), 00 suits (not bonds, he is 0 in those) and lots of 00 now. Even a size 0 shirt fits him He is a bohemeth child lol We got the Tigger Jolly Jumper as a shower gift but it's from Big W. I have a heap more updated piccies but the battery on my sister's camera died and I've been to lazy to go and find the charger so I can upload them hehe slack. You're right on not forcing him onto the cereal, Blake is really starting to mouth at us and stare at our food, so when he hits 4 months we're going to give him a little taste of the 4-6 month tinned foods. I intend to make his foods (pureed fruit and vegies obviously) but am not going to bother until he is on them a few times a day.

Tan thank you for thinking about me in your posts, I have totally forgotten if you have asked any questions lol I'm sorry!!! I'm soooo glad to hear Isaebella is sleeping beautifully for you. Blake was going SO well, he went 7pm-7am last Thursday night, then got sick and is up every 4 or 5 hours He must need to be close too me too, as he won't sleep in his bed either.

Yay Danni, 2 days till Perth then 4 weeks till you're up here so we can go swimming, eat like piggys and watch the boys go nuts (our little AND big men I mean lol)

Does anyone elses bub already push up to a standing position? Blake doesn't like to sit on my lap anymore, he likes to stand!!! He is very strong, a nurse commented he has the strongest kick of any baby she's ever seen (and she's in her 50's so she would have seen a few in her day!). Off to see the Paed to follow up on Blake's eyes (much more improved, only the left one goes a bit AWOL occasionally) and his heart murmur, and to also discuss the other issues we're having with him.

    Hi gorgeous mummies and babies,

It has been a little bit quiet in here but it's great to read a few catch ups.

Sarah - our website is great and I love your videos. It was weird finally hearing your voice. I've always pictured you have a heavy accent. Any hoo your little man is growing so quick. I can't believe he is in a jolly jumper. How old/big do they have to be to go in one? I've got a hand me down for Olivia so it is in a plastic bag with no instructions. How's the website coming along?

Tan - It's fantastic to hear how good Izzy's sleeping for you. How are you going trying to increase her afternoon sleep? Izzy might just like a short power nap in the arvo. Great for you two getting out for an afternoon walk. It's a great idea that Olivia and I might have to copy. I know that you have already told us but what is Al's new job?

Ashley - Gee you guys really can't take a trick at the moment can you? Hoping that Blake is feeling better today. Poor little guy. When is your paed appointment? Fingers crossed he gets a great report card.

Danni - How fantastic that Mason is being so good for you. I can't believe you're off to Perth and then Brisbane. You guys travel so much I'm jealous. It's great that Mason has slotted into your life so perfectly. You are really meant to parents. Are you enjoying it as much as you thought you would?

A huge hello to every other mummies and bubbies. Can't wait to hear all about what new with you all.

Well Olivia and I are travelling along beautifully. She is sleeping brilliantly for us and is becoming more and more interactive each day. I am having to force myself to clean the house while she is asleep because when she is awake I can't leave her alone and just adore playing with her. I can waste hours with her. She is playing with her toys and putting everything in her month. It's so cute. Well everything she does is cute. I'm so bias though but aren't we all. LOL.
We have Olivia's paed appt on monday but I'm not worried. She is so healthy so it can't be anything majorily wrong.

Anyway sorry for the quick catch up but we have got mother's group so I gota dash and pack our nappy bag.

    Chat soon ladies,
    Luv Dan and Olivia

Hi everyone. Been very quiet hasn't it.

Ashlee - so sorry to hear Blake's not been well. It doesn't seem fair that one baby seems to cop so much icky stuff. Hope he's better soon and your paed gives him a bit tick of health for everything else. And hopefully he'll be back to sleeping in his own bed and back to those lovely long night sleeps for you. Great news though that your nurse thinks he's so strong -must be very reassuring. Very cute Tigger too!! Do you just hang it from the door frame?

Tan - Good luck getting longer sleeps out of Izzy in the afternoon. I admire anyone who can get their babies to do anything that they want them to do - my Izzy does whatever she pleases!! I think she gets her stubborn streak from her mummy . . .

Dan - sounds like you're having a great time with Olivia. Isn't it incredible how much time you can spend crawling around on the flooor with them and not being bored - I never would have believed I could enjoy doing "nothing" so much.

Danni - only two sleeps to go!! Looking forward to meeting you and Mason. I hope you have a good flight over. And then Brisbane? Wow. Mason is going to be the most travelled little bubby.

Sarah - your website is starting to look great. You've very creative. Must have felt strange giving Noah "real" food. My GP commented the other day about introducing Izzy to solids in another few weeks and part of me said "nooooooooooooooooooooo". I want my little girl to stay little. They all seem to be growing so fast.

Well, nothing new to report here with my girl. Izzy is still in that incredibly brilliant sleep pattern and I'm just loving it. I was really tired yesterday so when she went down for a sleep, I went back to bed and slept for three hours. Soooooo nice. She is feeding really well from the formula now and is putting on weight much more quickly - she was 5.5 kgs on Friday which was right on average for her age but was only 57 cms, which was a tad on the shorter side. Nothing to worry about, but I hope she's not going to suffer from her mummy's "duck leg disease".

My SIL is being (has been I guess) induced today so we're all waiting by the phone for news of a new niece or nephew. She already has two boys but wants another one. I'm torn as to what she'll have - I think she's going to have a girl, but I want her to have a boy, not only because that's what she wants but because I want Izzy to keep her special place in the family of being the only little girl!

    Hello!

Sorry, another selfish post from me - I've had a couple of very exhausting days and just wanted to pop in quickly to give you all an update!!

We had a terrible afternoon yesterday with Luke and his reflux. He screamed and screamed until he could hardly breathe the poor little man. So, I finally decided that enough is enough and booked him in to see the paediatrician (sp?) today. As much as I didn't want to, we've now got some medication (Zantac) to try and a thickening agent for him to take before feeds. We'll see how we go with that. Its just been so traumatic and yesterday afternoon was just the worst. I felt like I couldn't cope with it anymore. The breast refusal is just the worst. Anyway, hopefully things will improve over the next few days.

Must go, Luke has started screaming again!!!!

    Talk soon.

Hey Dan, you are so right...and I love it when people remind me. Mason has slotted in perfectly and we love how portable and adaptable he is. We love that we can carry on with our lives with him now inclusive and it makes everything so much more enjoyable

Lulu: cant wait to meet you on friday! 11am at carousel, near the stairs that come down from the cinemas.

Kelly: hope you can make it too!
Sorry to hear about Lukes reflux. He should grow out of it soon. Mason did hunny. good luck with the zantac. With the breast refusal...is there any chance he has colic or similar?

    We'll be there Danni!

Kelly - so sorry to hear Luke's reflux is getting worse. Unfortunately I know exactly what you're going through - exactly the problems I had with Izzy until she got to the point where she simply refused to feed from me at all for a couple of days. It is so incredibly difficult to cope with seeing your little one in pain so I hope you're doing what you can to look after yourself too, and that your DH is able to give you some time out. Good luck with the Zantac. I've been told that you have to hang in there for a couple of weeks for it to really take effect so don't lose heart if you don't have an immediate improvement.

I don't want to create any problems here and certainly don't want to offend anybody but for what its worth, switching Isabelle from breastfeeding to full time formula has given me a new baby. She used to scream all day from about 8am until anything up to 11pm at night. I had to hold her upright on my shoulder from midday (not even in her car seat, pram etc) or else she would scream even louder. I was told if I switched her to formula I would have a new baby in 3 days - it took 2. She now has three sleeps a day, happily lies on her back in her pram or on the floor gurgling and playing on her own ALL day (including that horrid 3pm onwards!!). Like I'm sure you've been told, they will grow out of reflux but after trying medication and finding it not particularly effective, I elected to go with formula. I simply wasn't prepared to watch Izzy stay in pain for months (because reflux can last for years, not just a few months) when there was a solution I and my GP were happy with.

Like I said, I don't want to offend anyone and I'm not saying formula feeding is the answer for everyone's baby that has reflux, but it was for mine. My only regret is that I didn't put her on formula earlier.

Danni - Yeah, I'm hoping that I'll be able to make it on Friday too - we'll see how we go!!!

Lulu - I don't think you're offending anyone, you've just done what's right for you and I think its wonderful!! We all have to do whats right for us and our bubs. Its certainly not fair to let them scream all day and not feed. I was worried Luke was getting to that stage but he still seems to feed perfectly well at night, just not during the day, so I know he's getting what he needs and he's certainly not screaming all day - just at feed time and for a little while afterwards, and not every feed either. He's such a happy boy the rest of the time, so hopefully we'll get through it ok!!

Alright, I have a question for you all - I need to buy a new nappy bag and want to know what you guys have and how happy you are with it. I bought a cheap one from Target and its fallen apart!!! So, I want to buy a better one thats going to last me but don't want to spend the money and then find that I don't like it!!! So, any suggestions would be great!!! Thanks.

Oh and Luke didn't like his first dose of Zantac, so it's going to be interesting!!!

Kelly - It's fantastic that you are on your way to sorting out Luke's reflux. I think you are doing an amazing job and you are doing what is best for you and Luke. Fingers crossed that you have a new little man in a few days and that Luke's reflux settles down for him. With a new nappy bag I would like at a backpack nappy bag. I love my back pack one. It is so convenient and tough going. Another one that is really good is from Target and it looks like a big handbag and it's red. That one is really well wearing too.

Lulu - How did your sister go? Was it a boy or girl? By the looks of your little girls photos she is really happy and if formula suits her then awesome.

Nothing new for us since my big update. I was wondering if anyone knows where I can buy some breast feeding singlets. I'm so sick to death of wearing a bra all day and all night.

Well I'm off to have my shower while Olivia is asleep.

    Catch up later ladies,
    Luv Dan.

YAY. I've been aunty'ed!! New nephew born at midday yesterday. Don't have any vital statistics yet (never rely on your FIL as the information gatherer!). Will be heading in to hospital to see them today. Seems funny that Izzy isn't the baby of the family anymore.

Dan - I had the Lovable ones and also "Bump" (Bonds). Got them from DJs and Myer. Depending on what size boobs you have would change which I would recommend. The Bumbs one are almost like a bra - very moulded - and depending on what my bbs were doing and Izzy's feeding schedule I sometimes found them a bit uncomfortable.

Kelly - oooh. Not good that Luke doesn't like the Zantac. Izzy didn't like the Losec much either (not like the Brauer's colic mix - I'm sure she thought it was just raspberry cordial she loved it!!). I'm "glad" Luke is only fussing at feed times during the day, although I'm sure for you its a nightmare. At least you know he's still getting good feeds at night. Hope the zantac does the trick for him very soon. Hope you can make it friday! ETA: I have the Mountain Buggy nappy bag that came with my pram. It's cr*p so glad you asked this question!

Lulu - no offense whatsoever hun!! Like the girls said the most important thing is doing our best for our babies and thats what we are all doing! Congrats on being an aunty - whoo hoo!! I love your pics of Izzy hun! She is adorable!

I have the lovable singlets too Dan - I find them great for feeding when im out and about too!

As far as bags go - Ive ditched the nappy bag altogether! I have the black ryco from target. I found it too big and bulky so now i have spares of everything i need in it in the car and i found a great large handbag with 2 zippers and compartments from strandbags. It has a long handle so i can wear it across one shoulder but ive usually got the pram anyway!! So now i have nappy/baby gear in one pocket and my wallet etc in the other!! Brilliant! Its black with leopard print lining too - funky! Have to admit it wont probably work once ive got food and bottles but for now i love it! If i had to get anew bag i would definately splurge and get an oioi- great size snd style. Or actually the angel maternity ones that looks like a handbag on ebay look good too!

Well Izzy is about to tear my nipple off - better go- back later!!

Thanks guys - I think I'll have a look on ebay today and see whats out there. Hmm, love the idea of a 'normal' bag too but I really want lots of compartments and haven't had much luck finding one!!!

Well, I'm afraid I'm not feeling very good today - just really down in the dumps. There's been even more tears this morning and I don't quite know what my problem is. I think I'm just sick of having to work everything out myself. This morning we tried to use the food thickener before feeding Luke and it was a disaster - I have no idea how to make him eat the thick paste that it turns into. Then, when we had got about half of it down, I tried to feed him and he refused it altogether. Its really frustrating and upsetting. I'm so close to just putting him on formula - I can't keep going like this - its just not like me to be in tears all the time. I think I'm going crazy. Luke is coping so much better than I am and is a happy little boy again now, so I don't know what my problem is.

Anyway, enough of that, think I need to go out and buy a new nappy bag - that should lift my spirits a little.

    Better go.

Oh Kelly - huge hugs hun. Please call the aba before you do and see if they can suggest something to help you... I dont want to offend the FFeeders either but sounds like you are having a bad day and rough time and they might be able to suggest something that helps. Either way hun, you have to do what keeps your sanity and your baby happy so fingers crossed you find something that works too.
Try strandbags if you want a handbag type bag - they had a few with lots of pockets and compartments that could work!
    Good luck!

Kelly - you poor love. I didn't try the thickener with Izzy so sorry if this is a dumb suggestion, but can you try giving it to Luke with a fairly decent amount of EBM, and then maybe top him up yourself when he's finished that? I know how hard it is. I'm so sorry you're having a cr*p day.

Like Tan said, don't make any decisions before calling the ABA as she suggested or your paed. Also, try to make this decision when you are at a calm place and Luke is settled, not when its all going to hell.

The only things I will say are that you should be prepared for the AB and potentially your paed to tell you to persevere with bfeeding. I was given no support whatsoever and a huge amount of pressure to continue bfeeding, despite how bad Izzy was. Like I said, she is a million times better now and I am now loving being a mother, whereas before I was in a very dark place.

Whatever you decide to do, you need to make a decision that you and your DH are happy with without enormous amounts of pressure from outside, or people making you feel guilty for giving your baby formula if that is the road you take. You are the one that is home all day every day with Luke and at the end of the day, the most important thing in his world is that his mummy is happy and enjoying life. That is the very first basis for your decision as far as I'm concerned. As for ffeeding being "bad", nobody can convince me that a product that is sold in this country specifically designed for children can harm them, no matter what the ABA or any other group will tell me. There is so much pressure on mums to breastfeed, no matter what. And that "no matter what" can involve the baby being medicated, or the mother or both. That's not natural so people should get off their high horses about bfeeding being the be all and end all. Each mum and bub should be treated as the individuals they are, not just a "one way for all, and this is the only way".

I don't want this post to turn into the start of an argument with anybody, but I know how hard it was for me and I don't want you to feel as alone as I did. I am not judging anybody on how they choose to feed their baby (or do anything else to it). We all have to make the very best decisions we can for our own child without feeling like we have done the wrong thing. The role of the rest of society is to support that individual 100% once that decision has been made, whether or not we would have chosen to do it the same way ourselves.

Kelly, I really do wish you all the best of luck in whatever you decide to do from here. Just know you can't make the wrong decision because whatever decision you make will be made out of love for Luke, and that is absolutely all that matters.

Lulu, I totally agree with you. Although I have BF all my 3 kids, I have no doubt in my mind that if I was experiencing any of the probs that yourself and Kelly have described, then I don't see a prob with switching to FF. Kelly, we do thicken feeds at work for babies and unfortunately Mum's express then we add the thickener then feed it to bub. I have never heard of trying to give the thick paste before a feed. My only suggestion is that we do give meds to babies that are BF in the teat from a bottle, maybe that would work?? You would obviously need a teat for an older baby with a bigger hole that he can suck it out of. You said he BF well at night, so can you FF him during day then BF him during night?? I think that you just need to find a solution with the ultimate goal of a happy baby, cause a happy baby=happy mummy!!

As for a nappy bag I have a Kapoochi from Target that converts from shoulder bag to a backpack, and I love it cause it has lots of compartments and is really nice!!

Ash, how big is Blake!!! He is one huge boy!!! I thought Angus was a fatty, but he is only about 5.8kgs and is almost 11 weeks!!

Sarah, your website is great!! Also love the photos of Noah, excellent videos! I am slack I only have about 5 photos of Angus on his site cause I am so lazy at updating!! I don't have a jolly jumper, do you think they are worth it??

Anyway betta go, my boy is cranky this arve, the girls have a bad cold/flu type thing so I hope he doesn't get it!

    Take Care!

Lulu I couldn't have put it any better if I tried. I completely agree that every single mum has to do what is best for them and their baby regardless of what it is. Some people need to just shut up and mind their own business. I can't believe how much unwanted and whether it's deliberate or not hurtful advice is given to us. We are all doing our best to cope and do what we think is best for our baby. Even though I am b/f Olivia I would stop at the drop of a hat if formula was the better option for her and I actually applaud you ladies for pushing aside people's opinion and lack of support and making the tough decisions for you babies.
Olivia is being weaned from b/f and will be on solids and formula at 6 months because I don't want to be working full time and b/f and people are already telling me that that is the wrong thing to do and I should continue b/f until Olivia doesn't want it anymore. I would love to know how they have the right to tell me I will be doing the wrong thing. GGGRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!
Can you tell that I'm a little opinated (sp?) on this. I hate the pressure put on mum's to b/f. Breast feeding is not the be all end all.
    Okay rant over. LOL.
    Catch up later ladies,

Dan, I am totally with you on the weaning before going back to work. With my last bub I went back whilst BF when she was 6 wks just for 2 days a fortnight. I was so stressed when at work, not knowing if she was going to take a bottle etc that I was a mess!! I think I will wean this time, although am hoping not to go back to work for awhile!!! Anyway, house is about to start so I better shower before it starts!! Night-night everyone, sleep well all you bubba's!!!
