    hey everyone
just quickly Squidipa I was forever being told by the clinics that cadence was short for her age and underweight they were horrible and made me feel like cr@p there was nothing i could do to put her weight on and no matter how much I told them that they still said "she should be putting on more weight the charts say she's underweight" I almost told one of them where she can shove that chart! so i put her on to formula and she started chunking up but still slower then "normal" then they had a go at me cos I gave up BF . But I knew Cadence was happy I agree with Leash you're doing a fantastic job especially when you have 3 other kids to look after as well. big hugs chick

    Morning Ladies!

I agree with Kel. With DS, I BF him until 1 day I went to the Dr and he said, oh, your baby is Failing to Thrive. I was devastated. So, from that day on, I supplemented with Formula and started solids. DS is happy and healthy, and continued to BF as well as bottle feed, but I wish I had done more research and asking. In essence, DS WASN'T failure to thrive, but because he was under the 'norm' on the weight charts, they figured I wasn't doing enough. Add to that I was 19 and I don't think the Dr's thought I knew what I was doing.
Please remember that the growth charts that a lot of Dr's and hospitals use are based on Formula Fed infants, and BF babies just don't grow like that!
Also, you are a Mum. Pure and simple. Youve done this before, 3 times in fact. You aren't stupid. You will know if your child is unwell, has a bump somewhere, or just isn't right. So, in that light, you will know what is right for your baby. You continue doing what you feel is right and don't let anybody tell you differently. If YOU think your baby isn't gaining enough weight, then you will make the decision to see someone about it and do something.
You will have a happy healthy baby, and that in turn, leads to a happy healthy Mummy.

    All the best to you.

Squidipa - big honey - as the others have said you are doing a wonderful job! I went with my gut in regards to putting Kye on formula. YES I really wanted to keep breastfeeding but with the lack of supply it was stressing me out and in turn Kye was unhappy and unsettled so I did what what I thought was right for the both of us. I agree with what Calebsmum said you're a mum to four children, you have done this enough to know that you are doing all you can for Josh.

Sometimes I get the feeling that the nurse I go to thinks I dont have a clue when it comes to feeding Kye. Yesterday she was quite blunt with me - only weighed him, didnt even do his length which I thought was a bit slack. I have found it hard to find a decent MW/Nurse that is willing to provide the support I think I should be getting (specially as a first time mum).

The Lac Consultant at the hospital was really helpful; I saw her a week after we came home but havent seen her since because you have to pay $30 a visit. Just a tad expensive, to take him down there each week just to get weighed and measured. She really reassured me though and was real informative, I felt comfortable with her. I have decided that I will take him back to her for the next "health check" (think its 4 months) though.

I was looking at Kyes Health Record Book yesterday after we got home and it turns out that he didnt put on 650 grams last week like I thought, I read it wrong. His WEIGHT was 6.5kg so in fact last week he only put on 210g (6.29kg to 6.5kg)

Hmmm average gain for him he weighed 3900 grams at birth and is now 6980 grams so total gain is 3080 divide by say 8 weeks = 385 grams per week average, not too bad I guess!

Rach - our boys are on par with each other. Do you get the "hes a big boy" cr@pola, sometimes it really gives me the $hit$

Off to see my OB this afternoon for my 6 week checkup; just a couple of weeks late He has been on holidays and as everyone knows they are always majorly booked up the first week back off holidays so I thought "hmmm I'm in no rush to go back to pay him $80 to see me for all but 2 minutes" LOL No doubt he will be running late again.

Kye has been a velcro baby today. He is quite snuffly in the nose again, hope he's not coming down with a cold
I will be so glad when he is over this 'wind' phase, thats if he does in fact grow out of it. Sometimes I still struggle to decifer his hungry vs his pain cry.

Anyways the man is hungry so must fly

Rachel - I had a little chuckle to myself when I read what you wrote about 3% and 95% ... I totally agree, if there weren't babies on those percentiles, then they wouldn't exist!!

Sasha - I have had that "he's a big boy" crap with all 3 of my boys, and to the other extreme, everyone thought my DD was soooooo tiny ... I was even reading her blue book the other day and apparently the ECH nurse thought it was unusual for her to be waking for feeds during the night at 6-7 months old!! (shows how much attention I paid, she's now 4,5 yo!! )

I agree with the comment about everyone being different .... when I was 15, I weighed 33kg and the drs all thought there was something wrong with me - they reckoned I was grossly underweight for my age and height (I think 4ft 10 at the time) BUT it turned out that I was just super active with a very fast metabolism!

SQUIDIPA - YOU ARE A FANTASTIC MUMMY, YOU HAVE DONE THIS BEFORE, FOLLOW YOUR INSTINCTS CHICKY!!!!!

Anyway, Veygas is stirring, must be off ...

    hey everyone,

Firstly i have had to take a few moment to breathe and process all your abundantly kind and encouraging words. I get quite thrown when ppl are kind. And even hubbie has been hearing your kind words and is also like myself grateful for your support ild be lost with out you. REALLY LOST!! I am just over whelmed by your support. For the record i havnt really told my family my struggles of his weight gain and didnt even say about the hearing eithor and decided not to tell about the murmur and also the crooked winkie. im a very private person ya see after ya talk about Vaginal mucus there sorta isn't any place to hide is there with you girls.

Words just don't ever seem enough to say THANK YOU!!

We went to shops to buy the back packs on sale for 15 dollars for carry on bags on plane got 5 of them. Also got 4 of those trolley luggage bags they had for 30 each. We saved such a fortune its not funny. then hubbie suggested we stop at the jewelry shop. I think he was trying to cheer me up. He ended up buying our daughter some sleepers and our son too as he is getting his ear done next year if he still wants. He bought me a solid gold fob chain. And i bought his mother a gold pair of garnet dangle earings to take to nz with us They do such a huge mark up on jewelry hey like they think my chains worth around 479 i dont think so i dunno i am no jewelry maker. spent heaps to day on credit card GOOD few hundred dollars but saved more than we spent so i guess i can be happy with that.

sasha ..... ebay had those scales selling dirt cheap. After researching it yesterday i decided maybe i should get some, i could weigh josh before and after feeds fully clothes get an idea how my supply is going and maybe i could see if he is loosing weight over night from long sleeps. Scored the same set as the link i sent you for 3.25 plus 25 post. I am thinking maybe he has a fast metabolism and he is loosing weight so maybe thats why the gains are small i dunno. Cant hurt to test out the theory

vic ..... i had one of those moments like you today but opposite the ladie thought josh was 2 weeks old and we corrected her and said no we said 10 weeks old she was gob smacked "10 weeks" "He is so small.... Oh my" she said in a loud shocked voice. I used to get the oh my he is such a big boy with my 3 year old, it was great to start with i felt like yeah im doing a great job then it got a bit offensive with ppl staring and that and saying "he is going to be BIG boy". Or "your dad must be a big man" or "you must be big like dad are you"I felt like saying shut your face!! Then u also get the ppl who behind ya back say things like " thats so wrong!! " cant they stop feeding him" Don't they know the word no" GRRRRR ppl like that annoy the pants off me. Sorry if i offend anyone just talking about my experiences!

Leasha your cool dont worry about anything you posted such a nice post and i appreciated it and all of you too thank you.

well even with my new jewelry it sorta doesn't heal the real problem hey! The goal is get to next Wednesday thats it and re asses from there but hey i made it to 10 weeks. i feel like i am getting so angry with everything right now, maybe its hormonal changes i keep thinking this first period when it comes is gonna be NASTY.

oh bum just realized need to contact adoption agency need to get that happening too.
Also hubbie got the job so thats great just got him on small hours and will increase slowly hope they blinkin hurry tho got a nearly 700 car redgo bill to pay.

Well I woke Miss M up at 10 last night cos she only had 4 bottles yesterday, so she was asleep by 11, woke up round 3.30ish - settled with a dummy and woke up this morning about half an hour ago... what a good girl!!!! She has finally moved up to drinking around 200ml now, instead of 135ml - woohoo!!!!

Better go change a very wet nappy!!!!

Mel - Kye is slowly creeping up in his amount too, I've been doing it gradually though as I dont want him to start power chucking again
In saying that though, his amounts yesterday were all over the shop. I would put 170-180ml in the bottle and would be lucky if he drank 140ml.

I didnt keep an accurate track of what his intake was for yesterday but it just felt like he didnt drink nearly as much as what he usually does..
I guess like us they will have their days where they are less hungrier than usual, true? Not anything to worry about aye?

Yeah Sasha - sounds pretty normal.

And I just let her drink whatever she wants really - until she starts playing with the teat and I know she isn't hungry anymore. I only upped the amount cos she was sucking the bottle dry - so thought .. hmmm.. maybe she wants more... I don't mind the fact that there is some milk left in the bottle cos then I know she has drank all that she wants to - and I know she's not going hungry....

Plus she's so darn skinny its good to try to fatten her up!!!!!

She had about 200ml this morning for her bottle - but I wouldn't expect her to have that the entire day - next one will probably be around 120 - 150ml... she was just hungry after such a big sleep!!

She is sleeping now - so I REALLY should move my fat butt and do some housework.. not motivated to vacuum though cos I can't mop cos we need a new mop head.. so why bother vaccing.. LOL

    gawd I'm lazy...

Yay Mel!!! What a good little girl you have there!!! I tried upping N's evening bottle of expressed to 150ml, uh oh... she groaned for hours poor thing, so we are siting at 120ml atm. Mind you, I don't know how much more would fit!

Toys R Us, have the Fisher Price Ocean Wonders range on special this week, some swing are half price and next week they will have the Rainforest range on special not as cheap, but i am sending DH into there tonight to see what we get!

I like the bigger swings, but DH thinks the smaller ones, but I want one the reclines into two positions, she is she falls asleep I can leave her in it, something to have at the office, will save me taking the pram down all the time. She doesn't sleep in the rocker well. We will see i guess!!

Have a great day everyone, 25 here today, clear blue skies, got one load of washing on the line want to get two more up so must run!! Playgroup (normal) at 1:30!

Yep Kye has been doing that too! Usually when he wakes at 2am he is real ravenous so I have been trialling bigger amounts the past couple of nights thinking he is hungrier then but yeah he has only drunk 170-180ml. I guess gotta look at the amount overall for the day hey? He should be having about 150ml x 7kg (bodyweight) so 1050ml - so bloody confusing sometimes. The tins of formula say one thing, books say a different thing. I know each baby is different LOL
People say to me oh he will only drink what he needs..... yeah whatever this is KYE we are talking about PMSL

I REALLY should move my fat butt and do some housework.. not motivated to vacuum though cos I can't mop cos we need a new mop head.
Ahhh nah you aint lazy, I AM LAZY, my dad does all my housework hehe I guess thats about the only plus of my parents living with us

LMFAO - at least ya honest

mum would be great to live with.... DS would love it. he's such a nanny's boy.. LOVES her to death
Yeah Kye is a bit like that too with my mum. It has been great having my parents here to share him with them oh and them helping out aswell has definitely saved my sanity LOL When we have had enough we just pass Kye onto them hehe

The absolutely adore him; shower him with so much love and attention. He is the first grandson (my brother has 3 girls in NZ) so I guess that has something to do with it.
I think Kye and Dad will be very close too. Right now Dad wants him to wake up so he can start watching the bathurst coverage with him ... PMSL
