Hollye - sounds like u are going to be fine a BFing! u seem too be getting better and better!
HEEEELLLLLPPPPPP - we had a Hellish evening and night yesterday and last night! just like the other day and tonight is looking the same! she wont stop crying!!!
we have brought her Karicare formula now - and she has had one bottle - due to have another at 2000ish - are we suppose to talk this formula stuff over with someone?
We have no idea who too talk to or ring - we were only given stuff on BFing and ppl to contact inregards too it! Nothing on if we had too stop BFing and change to formula - i dont think infants friend is helping her much
Also how many poo's in a day is she suppose too do?
i am sooooo sleep deprived and poor DH not only has too put up with Bianca crying but me crying also - i feel like everyday im failing at this mum thing more and more - and i never thought i would be like this!
HJ! you are doing such a great job, i bet it's not easy at all!!!
I've heard if you switch from Bfeeding to Formula that it's best to do it slowly so kinda weaning them instead of going cold turkey...... can you still sometimes express? so she's still getting a bit of breast milk and then other feeds she gets formula?? if you only express once a day your milk will still be drying up but you can still get a bit out iykwim? I'd say she's getting used to formula now instead of b/milk perhaps?? do you think?
or has she got reflux/colic perhaps?
You are the BEST Mummy for Bianca...... remember that
She was getting topped up in hospital on formula - so she has always kind of been having it! i cant express anymore have been told not too now that im on pill and milk is drying up cause of the mastitis - plus dont think i have much in them anymore anyway!
Also ladies sorry for this yucky question - but when is the bleeding suppose to stop after giving birth - and are clots normal? im talking pretty decent sized ones?
oh and while im at it - any thoughts on constipation? i havent been for 10days now - too scared too cause i got stitches and i still have hemorrhoids (awfully sorry for tmi) i have got some medication but that dosent seem too be helping!
im really not enjoying any of this!
HJ - take a deeeeeeeeeeeep breath sweety. u are a fantastic mum and NEVER think any other way ok! Bianca will just be ajusting to the formula. Are you worried coz she hasnt had a poo in a while? They say babies can go up to 10 days without a poo! U will find that FF bubs dont poo quite as much and when they do it is about firmer than BF bubs poo. What bottles are u using? is it possible she is swallowing too much air when sshe drinks.. hence giving her wind. How much are u offering her? Is she co sleeping with u and DH? Babies cry and scream hun, its the only way they can say "mummy help me". If it goes on tonight and u are losing the plot, tomorrow book her in to see the doctor. She might have reflux (which is common) or she might be colic (also very common). I dont think the issue is you hun.. your bubbi isnt happy and there WILL be a reason why and you WILL fix it just give yourself time.
Im here WHENEVER you need to talk xoxoxoxoxo have a good night sweety
Hollye - i am a bit worried about her not pooing - since she is drinking heaps!
she has about 80-100mls every 3-4hrs - gets a bit more hungrier in her witching hrs in the morning! im using AVENT bottles - she gets burped afterwards and usually has a burp or 2! And nope she is definatly not co-sleeping with DH and i - she is in her own cot and has been since we brought her home from the hospital!
all day today she has been fine - but come 1800 - she no longer is!
This really is all my fault cause i cant breast feed! i know it is!
its not your fault!! EVERYDAY when the sun goes down Mia turns into the demon child and i am breastfeeding! Whens the last time she poo'ed? We co-sleep with Mia prob 6 hours out of the night. More so i can get some sleep.. she stays asleep when next to me and DP, i actually have to wake her! lol
HJ sweety it's not your fault at all. Babies have a certain time at day/night were you won't be able to settle them and I know it's distressing for you as you think you should be able to calm them but they will get better with time, it's hard been a mummy but as the saying goes "this too shall pass" and it will hunny, just give it time. As for the clots, if they are as big as your palm then I would be going and seeing the dr/or hospital as you may have some retained palcenta. Big
Hi all, sorry I've been MIA but I'm sure you understand
Jeff and I spent 5 lovely days hiding in a private room in the hospital with almost no visitors. Something you can only do with the first child so we took full advantage. It was really lovely.
Things are going really well here now we're home too. Katie is breastfeeding well, she sleeps quite a lot most nights, and only screams for a couple of hours each evening, well before midnight (and one night not at all and last night only for about half an hour). Unfortunately daddy usually gets that shift so that I can get a nap in before the potential all-nighter, and daddy can't stand the screaming, I think it's something to do with the way men's ears work, it just pierces through his head he says...but he does it anyway.
I'm not getting very organised yet, I just don't seem to be able to slot stuff in between feeds, I'm not very good at being reactive, I'm used to being able to plan my time. Thank goodness my mum is here, she's getting me into a routine and reminds me to got bed for a nap during the day as well.
I'm afraid that there's no chance that I'll catch up with what's been happening with everyone over the last 9 days, so I hope that everyone is enjoying their darling little ones...even though my quick skim showed that some of you have had some bother...I guess we'll all get used to that...I'm dreading the first fever I must say.
At some stage I'll get my birth story up, but for anyone who wants a peak there's a photo of Katie in my gallery.
Take care all, I just wanted to let you all know that I'm still here and thinking of you all.
sorry for jumping on again ladies, if you need to chat about the formula feeding i'm more than happy for you to email me on dcagiannitis@optusnet.com.au and i can also give you my phone number. I also had to change dd to formula after only a couple of weeks and i know how hard it can be!
HJ - Constipation aaaaah. I know the feeling. I have only been a couple of times in the last week and it is killing me at the moment. I am doing all the right things such as drinking metamucil, lots of water, fruit, cereal etc. I don't have any solutions except to relax and it will happen eventually. Check with your doctor if you are really unsure. Big hugs xx
Welcome Fussy and Olive's mummy.
I'm about to put a pic of Logan in the gallery now
Hi Everyone,
I am new to this forum business so sorry if I mess it up a bit.
I have also had cracked sore nipples for the past 3 weeks. I lost heaps of blood during delivery and didn't get any milk for 5 days so Olive was basically dry sucking. Then she got jaundice so became extra lazy with feeding so they just got worse and worse. The frustrating part is that all the midwives and the CFHN have said that attachment is good, she's sucking well, putting weight back on etc. I have noticed a couple of days ago that she has a white coating on her tongue and i'm wondering if this is thrush as i've heard this can cause nipple problems. Has anyone had this? I had antibiotics during labour and afterwards as I got mastitis as well. I'm not ready to give up BF yet but I can understand why women do so good luck with the bottle feeding.
I also have a question about sleep. My baby has been very windy resulting in very little sleep so we have been sleeping her on her side (you know yourself when you have a pain in the belly that you don't want to sleep on your back) but I am feeling worried about it as it's obviously not recommended. I was thinking of using a Safe T Sleep. Has anyone used this or had our dialemma? will ask CFHN about sleeping at clinic tomorrow as well although i'm pretty sure of what she'll say.
Thanks
My milk took nearly 2 weeks to come in and still isnt too great. I always get a damaged left nipple so i hear ya there. Yes bub could have abit of thrush, go and get it checked. When Mia has an upset tummy she prefers her side or her tummy. She sleep 90% of the time on her side. Try and give her a mouthful or 2 or cool boiled water before you burp her, this is meant to help bring the wind and aid in a upset tummy. HTH
Olives Mum it could just be milk on her tongue, I know that Julian always has a white tongue. I think thrush will also be on her cheeks and roof of her mouth and it will be really thick.
Consipation is a big thing after birth as your body is doing more things and using more of your body fluid, try and have between 2-3L of water a day, it will get better after a while.
yay, i found you guys!!
sorry, havent been around much but well, you know new baby and all,
i am typing this one handed while jacob is feeding, will probably take me forever, hasanyone elso got a piranah baby? as soon as jacob getsany where near me he starts snuffling and snorting and omg when i acyually puy him on the breast its not a sight for polite company!! hes a piglet, and the noises he makes!
hj- constipation omg, i hear you, I had a nasty experience the other day and had to call dp to go to the chemist for me "right now!!" and get me an enema! checked with the pharmacist first and it was fine to use while bf. microlax or bisalaxare good ones, quick and efficient if a bit eeewwwyyy!
well jacob is out of nb nappies already, and i still have about 200 of them was not expecting to have such a big greedy baby! lucky i have a friend due in dec, i can pass them on to.
received my discharge notes from the hospital on friday, their reason for medical induction was " unusually large fetus" can you believe that?
now that i have found you i will be back, hi to all and cuddles to all bubs.
xxx
Sorry I haven't been around much but we've been busy here!! Today we finally got our new car after 3 months of waiting so it's been a long day! Hayden is offically one week today and what a crazy week it's been!!! I'm making sure I enjoy this bubs DH and I have decided that this will be our last one, it amazing how much Hayden's already changed! DS has been fantastic and I can leave him unattended in the room with Hayden and know he'll be fine! DS has taken to patting Hayden on the head, proclaming I pat him.... makes us laugh everytime!
OMG you all seem to be having trouble with the breast feeding, I've found that Hayden will de-latch onto my nipple so I've got to be careful ..... learn't the hard way the other day and I'm still suffering for it!! I've been blessed with another placid baby this time around, Hayden sleeps from 10pm till 4am then feeds for 1/2 hour before going back to sleep for 4 hours!!!! Breastfeeding has been good this time but the inital latch always hurts which from memory I think is normal for the first few weeks!
Hj,
Big hugs hun, I can garantee that it has nothing to do with the breastfeeding, I'm sure that things will settle down for you soon, keep your chin up your doing a fantastic job!!!!
Hollye,
I'm not game to co-sleep I couldn't with my other 2 too scared I'd roll over on them, Hayden's in a bassinet right next to me so I can get to him easily! We've been good here, I've been trying to find the time to get on to bellybelly but something has always cropped up, finally I'm back!!!!
We're off to the Magic Cave to see santa tomorrow, should be intersting, DH is home this week and wants to take the three monkeys in so we're off tomorrow nice and early to get a head start before the crowds!!!
