Is everyone ok? I hope your all just super busy enjoying your bubs.
All is well here, I think dd is having a growth spurt she is feeding every couple of hours and taking both sides (it has been hot here too). Still a little fussy in the afternoons but great overnight usually only waking once. She is such a happy smiley baby and I think we might have a chatterbox on our hands lol.
Great here was my due date yesterday lol been waking up with puffy red eyes which sucks but got her needles this week and us for her head and hips and her full term check this week
Welcome to the world for the 2nd time Serenity! Hope she went ok with her needles, broke my heart, Mime let out such a wail but was over it and ready for a snuggle within a couple of minutes! Good luck with the gym and well done!
Hey Oz, great news about getting sleep, being refreshed makes it that bit more easy. The heat effected us here too, very hard to settle to sleep but when DD had finally drifted off she was right.
KellyD- Im going to look into those wonder week books, I was told at hospy that growth spurts at 3 and 6 weeks but that was pretty much the extent of the knowledge they shared. I remember DD just wanted to be held a lot too, I guess it was one of those wonder weeks! Its good to know there may actually be a reason for it and that they dont just feel crappy or something.
Maya- I was very proud last week DD became official! It was a real goosebumpy moment when I saw that birth certificate and her name printed on medicare card! Sounds ridiculous to be so excited about something so little but hey......it was just great!
Hi cam, mzy, Dedicated_Mummy, V-Love, Skybie, erybery hope everything is good.
Oh and Cam great news about Lukes weight!!!!
hey girls, long time no chat!
been so busy with dd, she doesnt like to sleep much and is getting to be a fussy eater, have also had problems with reflux and apparently the hours of night screaming is just colic, dr went right over her and said it is inexplicable therefore is probably colic, nice general answer hey, but we will get there, just give lots of cuddles and go through the list and back to the start of the list and do it all again...
LD it is so wonderous when the certificate turns up hey, u see it and it has ur name as mother and your just like oh wow! glad to hear dd has been a good girl for you.
maya havent got them forms filled out either, im so slack!
heavenly wow serenity was so early! must have felt funny on her actual due date.
oz glad to hear, u must have one of the best bubbas so glad shes a good girl!
it has been quiet in here, hope everyones well and there bubbas are happy smiley ones!
gettikng lots of smiles and loving it, just wish little miss would go to sleep and not just do 3am to 6am every day!
hi to everyone ive missed, will try to get on here more, i miss my buddies
Hi everyone!
Ella had her needles too the other week, it was awful seeing her face urn red with horror but as soon as she was put on my chest she calmed down!
Hating this heat atm as it i so hard to keep Ella cool, Ive been wrapping her for bed in just her nappy, not even a singlet! Thank goodness for air-con, though am dreading the next electricity bill!
Took Ella to see the Musical "Mamma Mia" yesterday in the city. I was amazed that she slept through most of it, everyone kept commenting on what a calm, quiet baby she was - just wishe they would see her at home.
Ella has settled down a lot now, so not as much screaming or taking as long to settle, though still not a very good sleeper.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to stretch out her feeds at night and get her to sleep more at night. Shes 8 weeks old now and I was kinda hoping we would have her sleeping 5-6 hours by now but at the moment its only 3-4!
Bloody Nora, Erybery - who's been giving you porky pies about when babies 'should' be sleeping through??? SOME do, and most don't! Take the pressure off her and yourself and please realise that a baby that wakes for feeds overnight is looking after its own metabolism (as adults our metabolism varies between individuals, too). My DS has a fast metabolism and was waking for feeds during the night even till last year. DD must have a slower one because she doesn't require feeding every 2 hours (though when she's got a cold she'll wake often, but when baby's sick in a house, ain't no-one getting any sleep!!). She's a different kettle of fish again. Human mammals metabolise their breastmilk quicker for survival reasons. There is no real way to 'stretch out' feeds to get a baby to sleep for longer that doesn't involve hijacking their internal intelligence about what nutrition they need, and undermining their own messages of hunger. This time really is such a blip on the timescale of their lives with us, so probably talk to the ABA about riding it out. Other mums have been known to lie about what their babies are doing - mainly because they get set up to believe that 'success' is a baby that sleeps through. Also, with separated sleeping, lots of mummies think they have a sleeping through baby but they don't realise the baby IS waking and going back to sleep- just that other babies won't settle back to sleep and that's when you know your baby is a waker!
We seem to be emerging from a bad patch here. Clear nose three nights in a row, back to dryness between feeds (and using the chamberpot for EC'ing) at night and I think my baby is back, so we can continue to get to know what's normal for both of us. One thing at a time, though - I have cracked nipples from her snuffliness and I'm riding out a painful breastfeeding wave this week. I bought a nipple shield for when it's really bad, and my MCHN (who's also a LC) came round and helped us a bit. I'll talk to her later this week to give her an update and on Monday I have another appointment with her. DP thinks I'm needlessly holding a grudge against the 'source' of our lurgy...too bloody right I am! And I've told him that until I'm not living with their ignorance and inconsiderateness anymore (i.e. excrutiating latch, nipple vasospasm, dreading feeds etc), he can put up with my grudge and suck it up. Poor DS was in tears last night when I shrieked in pain when he hopped on (even with his very gentle attachment it hurts ) because he was upset at the thought of hurting me. I needed him, though - the damage and pain has meant we're not feeding properly and my boobs aren't draining well. Bah...I'm visiting a bad dream again. I think it's also a matter of her learning to latch properly again, because for half her life she's had a cold and it's affected her attachment.
Better go make the most of sleeping children-folk and find something to do...like have a kip!
erybery i think what maya is saying is right, theres no normal or right or wrong or any of that, we just have to live with them and the evils of sleep deprivation mostly, but i can recommend some things i have tried for the reflux that have made a huge difference to not only my sanity but dd's happiness, (am i right in remembering ella has reflux hence the zantac or am i just using my mushie brain wrong...lol) i am giving dd some liquid mylanta for her reflux and its instant stop screaming, i was told up to 1ml 3 times a day is fine by the nurse. she is very colicy and i have started winding her every 3mins on the boob, or every 30ml from the bottle, OMG what a difference that has made, the colic seems to have disappeared in only 2 days! (fingers crossed) so the screaming has stopped that was all night every night till 3am... i am also giving her thickened breast milk in a bottle for her last feed before sleep, helps with the reflux too, plus i know exactly how much shes had rather than guessing. she seems to sleep longer cos of this, but it could just be a coincedence too...
maya sorry to hear about the bf probs, i had blocked duct and mastitis last week so i can empathise with the pain, i just wanted to throw dd on the floor everytime i put her on, it is so terrible, cant believe something so natural can cause so much damn pain, bloody bf probs. i hope ur all back to normal soon, repaired and healed well. im sure ur dd will get back to good attachment in time, someone like u with so much experience and will power will have her back on there in no time in sure. plus the support uve gotten will help, and im sure u will seek further support using ur aba group if u need it. the beauty of these groups is they are there for you when u need it as well as when u dont.
i have started save our sleep, as a routine for dd and it has worked wonders for the 2 days ive been doing it, i have had 2 nice sleeps, plus day sleeps to get the housework done, im not couting my chickens yet, but a couple of nice days has been great. i know a lot of ppl dont like routines and stuff, but i had to give something a go, 3hrs sleep a day and snack feeding by dd was killing me, not to mention the cranky screaming baby i had on my hands, she was just so unhappy. will let u all know how it goes in a week or so.
hope everyones well and bubs r doing great, and getting a bit more sleep for their mummys

Jen you can only do whats right for you. Sounds like things are looking up in your household though which is great.
Maya sounds like your doing it tough at the moment, you will get through it though. Good to hear that T's nose is clearing up.
Erybery nice work taking Ella to her first musical lol. Unfortunately I dont think there is anyway to stretch out her sleep they just eat when they are hungry and sleep when they are tired. It will get better eventually though.
LD the wonder weeks is a great book, there is a website that explains some of them. Just google wonder weeks, the website is living control something or other lol.
Heavenly how did the us and check up go?
A big hello to everyone else, I hope that your all well. I cant believe how fast time is flying. DD looks more like a baby now then she does a newborn and is growing so quickly. I cant believe how quickly Christmas has come around is everyone ready???
Lily Dust: I got my Wonder Weeks book last week and after reading about the 5 week change it made so much sense what I had been going through with Tara. The 8 week one is suppose to be even bigger, so am bracing for this one to happen in the next week. But I must admit having something explain why things are happening is such a help.
KellyD you have just given me goosebumps! Its like you read my mind.....We have been going round the twist since Thursday with DD, being unsettled through day, bit of a grizzle guts and twice now a massive tantrum till she was red in the face and hysterical, I just couldnt do anything to make her settle, not even a booby worked!!And guess what....she is 8 weeks old! As you say it certainly makes you feel so much better about it! I have survived that 8 week mark and I bet you do too!
erybery- those needles are horrors hey?!? Its horrible to see them squeal like that, but at least its quick and over before you know it. Did Ella have the oral gastro vaccine too?
Im not sure about the sleeping. Mime has slept 7- 8 hours since she came home and now has decided to take it back to 5-6 hours (sorry Im not being a smart but just saying how she has changed). I guess they will do as they please when they please and dont care what anyone says. She will get there in the end, but in the mean time you're doing really well! I take my hat off to you.
Jen- Good to hear from you! Im with you on routine, I have so much trouble functioning going from minute to minute without one. You do whats good for you and it sounds like that is it. Look forward to hearing how its going again soon.
Maya- . BF issues are horrid. We have just got DD feeding back on left side after 5 weeks of expressing because Im sure my nipple was going to fall off it had that big of a gash in it! Hang in there. That attachment is horrid when its toe curling!
Oz- I thought the same thing this morning looking at DD laying on her daddy in bed, she looks so much more grown up in the face, a real little girl. They do grow and change so fast. Thanks for the website/ google idea, will check it out, its always nice to know there are other reasons why the house is being screamed down and it isnt something you are doing wrong
Heavenly- hope the checkup was all great and little Serenity is growing like a mushroom.
hi girls!
so glad to see everyones tickers plodding along beautifully!
8 week mark sucked for us too, but we survived, not looking forward to the 12 week marker, which scarily is only next week for us!!
We're doing well Iz is still breastfeeding like a champion and stacking on the weight. sleeping hasnt been all that good but she gave me 10-5 last night which was pretty impressive! i woke up at 4 and pooed my pants a lil and ran to check on her though!
she's slowly starting to smile, not all that often but she's getting there and every couple of days she has a good old talk to herself, but thats not constant yet either. hopeing it becomes regular very soon!
anyway its late i better get to bed.
Hope ur all well
XXX
T now has a wet cough Doctor today. I hate this. It was months and months (actually, I think it was well after the 12 month mark) before DS had to visit the doctor, so this is sucking arse quite a bit.
Thanks for your words about the BFing issues, it's really helped! I had a good few days where things were going grand and now she's mashing a bit again. Just gotta clear the mucous from airways and we'll be good again. She's stacking on weight, so it's not an issue that way, it's just poor me who's copping the abuse! Oh, and she's unhappy in the evenings when it gets worse. She'll sleep fine, but she's just not happy after a coughing episode and there isn't much I can do after topping up the humidifier.
She was weighed again last week by the MCHN and she had grown 6 cms since birth - no wonder the 0000 are no good to us anymore! I think she might even end up being as tall as DS.
EC'ing is going great, no wonder other cultures haven't bothered with nappies - nappies are not liberating at all! Still loving my Mini La La's for outings, and using flannel flats at home (which are mostly being tied back on dry after 'peeing' T on the chamber pot. Really, I'm not rushing off to work every day or some such thing, so this is a good way for me to connect with her and she's ever so grateful - she gets so narky if I miss a cue and she wees in her flannel nappy! Oh, and it's really lovely not to have to wipe poo smeared all over a bum as well as deal with pooey nappies all the time - catching 98% of them (don't ask me how I came to that statistic!!) in the pot and putting them down the drain where they belong.
Better finish my coffee now and get on with clearing this house for Open on Saturday. Will have more time to contribute meaningfully after the weekend when all the crap has been stashed in the shed!
Hope everyone is travelling well
Sorry it has being so long since saying hello. I seem to be super busy in the small amount of free time between feeds! I can't believe how loong it takes to get out of the house these days.
Maya - glad things are getting better with T's cold and the BF. I remember the pain when I had my gashed nipple.
Skybie - 12 weeks - congratulations! Hope it's not too painful for you both.
Lily Dust - so jealous of your sleep
Kelly D - you are making me scared about 8 weeks - better look that one up!
Ozstar - no where near ready for Christmas here and the shops are already crazy.
Jen - definitely let us know how sos goes. If it works for you both I don't see a problem with it! 2 good days must feel fantastic.
Erybery - sorry can't help with the sleep thing. Perhaps Jen's book is the answer.
AFM & Lukey - where do we begin! After not being on for so long there is so much I could type. As a whole he is a good baby we have unsettled periods (why does the word unsettled sound so much less than what it is - i.e screaming the house down) and he still isn't putting on heaps of weight. The last couple of days he hasn't wanted to take more than 1 boob. He just screams when I put his head near the boob then shuts up when I sit him up so I figure he is saying his done. As long as he keeps doing 150g a week I will be happy but the weight is constantly on my mind. We had our 6 weeks shots today and seem to be ok from that and he has recovered from his circumcision last week. He has terrible baby acne at the moment and I am praying it clears up for Christmas. The BF is working now except for his lack of interest in 2 boobs. He gives me beautiful smiles and laughs and is starting to poke his tongue out which makes the lack of sleep worthwhile!
Cam - I wouldn't worry about the one boob thing, DS only ever had one boob per feed, even when my supply settled, and DD is going the same way...even after losing nearly an entire feed when she's thrown it up (a few times this week after coughing and gagging on mucous from her virus ) I know it seems part of the vernacular for babies to feed from both boobs per feed, but it's often not the case and is quite normal. How did you come to the decision to circumcise? I can't recall you writing about it, so I'm not sure if you've already gone over this, sorry!
Doctor on Friday said it's the same virus as she had 3 weeks ago. It's a matter of doing what we're already doing - squirting breastmilk in the nose (instead of saline - it's free and squirts readily!), feeding as normal cos she's still stacking on weight (there goes my featherweight - I thought she'd be a petite version of DS, but she's gaining more than he did!) and using the humidifier at night. This sucks so much. My nipples heal then when her congestion gets worse so do my nipples and right now I'm dealing with fresh cracks and the peeling on the areola from the mashing of a few days ago (before it healed over again!). So, just waiting out this virus for when it all comes together and I can feed without fear like I did 4 weeks ago!
We went out for brunch today and had the most gorgeous meals at my favourite cafe (going there again next week for Booby Club Christmas dinner, yay me!) whilst our house was inspected. It came down to the wire and we got the study cleared in the nick of time before having to vacate for the real estate agent's arrival. Then we spent the arvo at MiL's cos one lady wanted to come back with her husband (he'd been working during the inspection) later on. So, we're sitting on two offers and we dont' even know what they are yet cos we've yet to sit down with the REA to discuss it! I'm dying to know what we've been offered and if it's enough. Not that we've found a property to put the money towards...every day I'm on the net looking, and DS has a very basic understanding that we're going to live on a 'farm'. I'm talking to him about it now to transition him to moving from 'his' home (he often says 'my house' when talking about stuff!). Interesting times ahead. Sort of sad to be selling the house so soon after celebrating a perfect homebirth in it. At least it's now and not later when DD is old enough to be sad about selling because she was born here and lived here, I guess.
What a year. What a week. My poor aching boobs! I'd better go to bed - we just watched the Beatrix Potter film with Renee Zellwegger and it was just so beautiful. Makes up for the Carols we passed on tonight...
goodnight xxx
hey all hope everyones well ..ive been sick for the last couple days just an itchy throat and really blocked nose....
Serenity last weigh in was the 28 upto 2.8 kg go back to the local clinic to pop in for another this coming week...ive been abit concerned with hom much she vomits, after almost every feed she seems to puke heaps and it still looks like milk but theres quite abit not sure whats going on with her...shes getting more sooky aswell and shes always sucking on my finger lol although its good cos if she wakes at night i just give her my pinky for afew minutes but she used to just wake once and now its gotten more frequent i spose i have o have one bad sleeper as all my others were great sleepers ...
Heavenly, are you sure she just needs comforting and not a feed when you offer her your finger? Sorry if you've been over this, just wondering if she fed more overnight that she might make more weight gain? Especially if it's getting more frequent, she may be telling you something. I have been using my finger with DD, but after she's had a boob and a wee, cos by then I know she's eaten plenty and just needs a comfort suck to get to sleep (and she'd be allowed my boob if she wasn't still blocked up with her horrible clamp!). Dummies and fingers can overlook a real need to feed, sometimes.
Better night for me here, using nipple shields. They're great for reduction of pain and healing of cracks, but she doesn't drain the breast properly and it leaves me fuller than I'm supposed to be. Oh, well, it's only temporary, so I hope mastitis realises it's unwelcome in these parts!
Hope everyone's having a nice Sunday
Maya sounds like things are improving for you. Hopefully the mastitis stays away.
Heavenly perhaps she wants a feed when she sucks on your finger? DD is a bit of a chucker too, sometimes I am sure I wear most of a feed. She is happy though so I am not worried.
Cam 150grams a week is great weight gain, sounds like your doing everything right. They dont need to have both breasts. My DD will some feeds have both, sometimes one and sometimes one and bit lol.
How is everyone else going? We got our first giggle last night. She does those big open mouth smiles with lots of gurgling. She is a real chubber now too. She is starting to develop a routine now which is nice, I am sure it will change though so each day we just go with the flow. I cant wait for Christmas.
ok so I have no idea what the jibberish at the top of my last post is lol, I had so much trouble posting. It looks like something my ds would do though so who knows.
