welcome Alz congratultions on Ethan's arrival. Doctors can be great sometimes but other times they can justleave u feeling even more confused and deflated. Ive had Tyron to Paed and docs i think 4times now in as many weeks and only just now feel like we're getting somewhere.

Celtic how horrible for you, i hope you are recovering well and can get back on track, gosh that sounds like an aweful experience.

I call Nixon's 'wee wee' at the moment. he doesnt know the difference between boys and girls yet but i suppose we will need to start calling it something else. ATM im trying to teach him to tell me when he has done poos. He always answers "no" when i ask and he hasnt but hasnt told me "yes" when he has!

Tyron's jaundice was ok yesterday. i was a lot happier with the diff paed i saw, i finally got a script for Zantac so will get that today and see if it helps him.
he also said his nose is very blocked with mucos and could be another factor why he doesnt bf properly.... so gtta get a certain spray aswell today. Does anyones bubs pig snort when they cry? Tyron does and always had and apparently thats why.... he said in serious cases they have to go to hosp and get the mucos sucked out of a tube cause it dries up and comletley blocks teir little noses.
i succesfully bf him again last night for the first time in a couple of days, so little steps, i was ready to give up again but now i will wait for the zantac to kick in and tis nose spray and give it a little longer.

Claire- LOL i thought u were grocery shopping on Monday?! I never did it monday either, i have my 6week check up toda, Mum minding nixon and she told me to go do my shopping afterwards, i'll just have Ty with me.

Great sleep from caitlyn Rebecca! Ty did well last night too he went 10pm -5am!! i feelso much better today for it

Logged on an hour ago to post, but had to put L down for his morning sleep and only just got back. In that time there are a million other posts to get through.

Nic - L does little piggy sounds sometimes when he cries. He doesn't have a problem with mucos tho, or not that I have seen. I think its cute but might get it checked out when I see the paed in a few weeks time.

Celtic - OMG, you poor thing. You really have had a rough time. I hope you are now getting better.

Becky - a get together before Xmas would be good. Tuesday and Thursday aren't good for me next week, and Thursday 13/12 is out also. Depending on who can come perhaps look at either Garden City, Southbank or Indooroopilly (there are a few of us on the west side), a park or other location would be fine too.

Rebecca - glad to hear you had a great night. Hope today is just as good for you.

L is still waking every 2 hours overnight and taking up to an hour to settle back to sleep. So effectively we are sleeping about an hour or a little more at a time. All I am doing is feeding and burping him. I try not to change his nappy but if it is really smelly or I have heard him do poos I will change him. Last night 'tho I changed him twice so then had to feed him and burp him again to settle him. I don't turn the lights on and try to keep the stimulation down. Its so frustrating!

Catherine- I had to think about what you meant by shake? i was thinking......does she mean instead of wiping? ROFL.
Yeah i had the shakes pretty bad, and was spewing. Noice! I have heard epidural makes you shake. Also i went from 7cm to 10cm in 15min, then she was hoicked out with salad tongs within the next 5 min, so midwife said my body was in shock, which is also why i would be shaking. Why do you ask?

Alz- i agree with Trish, Doc doesn't always know best. Trust yourself and if you are still concerned about anything you can get a second opinion. Good he's a bit happier today. (Where do you live ALZ- if you are in MElb, come along to our meet up)

Yael- We are meeting up at Ricketts point sometime soon, come along if you can!

Rebecca- woot on a good night. She might not be difficult today ya never know, i have heard people say sleep promotes sleep. Hope the day is good! :D

I have to agree with leah on the cloth front, it is really easy, easier than i expected. The only thing is the extra washing, but got DH well trained! (Leah- i have a bad cloth nappy addiction, i'm sure i am spending more on MCN than i would with sposies, ROFL, i just cant get enough! She's nearly grown out of her sml Kidz in cloth, they have been awsome, not one leak!)


Nic- Good to hear Jaundice is better. Hope the spray clears up the mucous, poor little tyke. 10pm - 5am, that is awsome, must have been a good breast feed last night. ;) Have fun shopping...

Saffi- Man that sounds like a suckie night. Hope you get a rest in today. Is L having a long sleep at any time in a 24hr period?

Celtic- You are in the wars. Hope you are feeling better soon.

Lu had her 8 week check up today. I changed MCH centres, the midwife was SO much better. Checked her over with a fine tooth comb. All going well, she has 'uneven creases' in her legs too, so will get that checked out. I'm sure it is all fine, but made an appointment for her next week. It seems ALOT of babies have uneven creases, i guess it can be sign of hip dysplasia but often it is nothing.

Off to a tapas bar in the city tonight, a friends sister is singing with her band. Am a bit excited, i love Spanish food.

I've just had the morning from hell; started off well (normally we have BIG issues over eating.. its driving me crazy... gosh toddlers are challenging!), then DD was asleep so DS and I had a shower (this way he gets clean, and i get to have a shower also).. But when we got out i was drying him and he weed on the carpet (was an accident, he is soo far from TT, so i wasn't angry, just overwhelmed)..

At this was going on the phone wouldn't stop ringing, DD started crying and hasn't stopped for like the last 3 hours! Tried to sling etc, but she just wants to be held, but i was trying to look after DS, who was getting very cranky (day after creche), fold the laundry etc.

And now DS should be asleep but is playing in his cot, DD has finally fallen asleep feeding, so now she will have a bad feed, and i have to wake her to change her anyway, and i still haven't cleaned the carpet - and i'm only having my morning coffee @ 1.30pm!!!

Thank g-d we are going to a dinner party tonight (although i still need to cook dinner for DS)!

Yesterday we had an ultrasound done on Nechama's spine.. She had a very deep sacral dimple found at birth, and the paed wanted it checked as she couldn't see the bottom and wasn't sure if it went down into the spinal cord. I didn't tell anyone until now.. wanted to know what the results were first! But thank g-d, everything is normal with her spine, and it doesn't look like it will cause any problems. I've been so worried about it though! I probably should have told people what was going on, but i've felt to confused & guilty about it all.

Ok, i'ld better go look after my kids, will be back on later.

How do I feel about Myles, well I love him soo much! He sometimes frustrates me when I know I have to get things done and he just wants attention, but then he smiles or giggles and I forget it all! I could just eat him up!

How do i feel about DH! I never thought that I could love him anymore than I did! But I am just so much more in love with him now! He too frustrates me, especially when he has to sleep all the time for work and we dont get to spend time together but I can still look at him and think I love you a little more each day awww!

Brissy girls I am up for another meet up before chissy if you will have me;) I dont mind travelling!

What to call their "bits" I think I will be calling it by their proper names cause thats what they are, but also have nicknames for them, but I think its up to you to decide! :)

Geez Yael, you poor thing, had a bit on lately! You must have been worried about Nechama's bum. Fantastic to hear all is ok, must be a relief. Why did you feel guilty? It certainly wasn't anything you did to cause the dimple.... Have a lovely time at your dinner party, hope tomorrow brings less wee and more sleep to your family! :)

Now i understand why my GF's with more than one bub have lost so much weight lately. It seems having 2 is a big challange. Hats off to you ladies.

Becky - I think we'll be refering the the 'bits' as a wee wee and a willy. Thats what I called them as a kid and what we told me nephew. My nephew is now 7 1/2 and know the correct names.

Didn't have a great night last night. Tiera was waking every three hours, which I really didn't mind, but at 1:30am I realised my right breast was bone dry (she hadn't yet fed on it) and the poor little thing was still hungry after emptying my left breast. Luckily I had a half bottle of expressed milk in the freezer that I had to defrost slowly under water, which took ages! Had to get DH up to hold her and try to calm her down while I did all of that. By this time it was already 3am! I have since found out it was blocked ducts and all I had to do was put a hot pack on the breast and they warm up to release the let down. Thankfully she has slept well between each feed since so we got a sleep in!
Hopefully that will be the end of that.

glad you found us, alz. having a baby is the hardest thing i've done, and having one who is unhappy with reflux must be tough.

a good doctor is a good thing, and a rare thing. our babies are born barely able to see, unable to lift their head, or anything else. they need us to pick them up, imo.

remember when you were pregnant and you had reflux? lying down made it 100% worse. if you were propped up on an incline or standing, no problem. pick your baby up when you want to, especially in these first 3 months. letting them cry into a state only makes it harder to settle them. also holding them upright keeps the burnies down instead of up the pipe.

also consider propping up the bed a little bit.

there is plenty of time to play hardball with the baby later.

yael - welcome back... sorry to hear your old woes have returned. *remembers fissure* ouch.

Harry might have ezcema not heat rash! I'm taking him to a naturopath today once they've both woken up.

Nic - PMSL, I know I was!! Too tired though - finally got DH to go last night while I veged on the sofa. GL at the 6 week check. I thought the middy would do my pap but she didn't so I've got to go to the GP's for that.......

Viv - DH, I love him to bits. I'm so grateful to have a hands on man in my life; he's a great Dad and a really caring husband. He does get it in the ear sometimes though...if I'm tired and grumpy rarely rises to it, which is just awesome.

Becky - I say vagina and willy. DD says jina and willy. It's not completely correct but I don'y feel comfortable saying vulva and penis!

Yael - WB hope you're little girl is OK.

Alz - welcome! I agree with everyone else. Use your instinct and do what feels right for you. A baby's needs and wants are exactly the same at this age and if they need to be picked up and comforted, I'm all for that!

Elijah's doing well - in a word - huge! My gosh, the kid's a porker! I had this pixie photo woman doing this big spiel about how he's the perfect age for portraits and such as he's easy to make smile and laugh etc.. I was like, "Yeah, he's 6 weeks old..." She stopped mid-sentence and she was like "Oh."

:doh:I want a tiny baby - lol.

His reflux seems to have really settled down now too! Hardly ever pukes anymore and when he does its such a small amount it doesn't even bother him!
WOOHOO!!

OMG a few weeks back, a family friend asked me if, because he was born big if I was going start solids earlier. Hmm no....C'mon he was a month old! The kid had enough issues keep milk down, let alone anything else!

Awww... I'm sorry, I still am a no gooer... I don't think we'll be back then - we haven't made plans to come home yet... depending on the contract Daniel is working on at the moment, we might spend Xmas there because it's 9 days late... So we're not sure what we are doing yet. Spose to be going to Dan's parents for xmas. But I'd say we'll be there for atleast two weeks! I'll try and make the next one Becky and fingers crossed everyone will be able to make that one so we can all meet!

Morning all!

Had another good night, Kieran did 5 hours between feeds, then 4 hours. I had to wake him at 2am for his feed. I will only do this until he is 5 weeks old, then I'm letting him sleep as long as he likes! I am wondering if Kieran has reflux or just has bad wind. He has been chucking up heaps of his feeds and I have to burp him numerous times. Some of his day naps are very unsettled because he is in pain. I have booked him into the paediatric chiro for next Tuesday morning just to get him checked over. He is pretty happy most of the time, but I am a bit worried (typical mum!).

How is everyone finding their mothers group? I miss mine! Luckily we are all meeting up on Monday at a park, we haven't all caught up together for over a year so it will be great to catch up. I really need to socialise and I find it a bit isolating at home, hopefully I will meet up more regularly with some of the girls.

I made an executive decision yesterday to put my business on hold until the start of February when Kieran will be 3 months old. It was really stressing me out thinking about getting back into it. It is a very full-on business with online sales that I have to package and post, in-person sales where people love to stay and chat, people bringing stuff in to sell to me, me hunting for stock and also having to wash all new items, photograph them and whack them on my website and also taking lots of phone enquiries. I feel so relieved now because I struggle to just get the housework done, let alone anything extra! I will just run things online as I can manage that. DH is 100% supportive which is great. I think I just have to put my family and myself first.

Yeah Trish, Our GC house is the one we live in for the moment - but we need to landscape the back yard before we can put it on the market, because it's still in construction state from when our house was built. Daniel has been promising me it's going to get done for ages, but it's been a bit tricky because we're not quite sure what to do with it... We live on a hill and our back yard has quite the decline in it... I would like to have it terraced. Once we finish our yard and sell or rent this home, we are hoping to move back to the country because that's where we would like to raise our children and we are hoping to try for number two next year... depending on how Rochelle is and if we have found a new home.

I too was worried about Ro going through the night without feeds - I was concerned she wasn't getting enough! LOL. With Kieran being chucky, Rochelle also has periods where she chucks ALOT - But I've been told it's because of my fast letdown it gives her a little reflux. Lying down with her on top of me helps!

i had my 6wk check up yesterday & i have lost 14kgs! i only put on 12kg so im less than b4 i fell pg with Ty! but still another 5kg to kick to get back to what i was b4 Nixon.
he discussed all the diff contrceptions my god so many to choose from! however if i choose to go for an IUD or one thats inserted doc rekons it would be pretty painful for me because of my closed cervix. so i'd be bettr off getting knocked out for 10min, but that means day surgery, excess cost etc so i dont thinkk that is an option for me.
might stick with the old condom thing for now and i have a script for the pill.
we've DTD twice in 7weeks so i dont know that the cost of having to go to theatre would be worth it anyway!
finally i did the shopping thismorning! been trying all week. but got home anf Ty screaming for a feed so had to quickly put
Nix to bed take stuff out of the car and feed him. i caught him sucking his thumb! anyone elses babys suck their thumb? if he is going to do that is it worth giving him a dummy? there is pros and cons for both i suppose

Brissy girls - count me in for Tues 11/12. Garden City is good as DH will be back at work by then :( and he works just up the road from there. I can drop him off and go straight there. There are heaps of indoor cafes inside the centre.

Cath - tbh I don't know much about Facebook or even how to set up an account. Have to look into it.

Ange - L does have more sleeps during the day, but his best sleep is in the evening, up to 4 or 5 hours. Actually had a eureka moment this morning. I think he may be too cold. We had the fan on overnight. We had a blanket over us, but he was only swaddled in a muslin wrap. He was fussing and wouldn't sleep for more than an hour. I brought him into bed with me and he (and therefore me) then slept for 2 hours. We are off to get a room thermometer today.

Going to venture to the shops today and do the grocery shopping.

Nic - glad your checkup went well - I haven't really thought about contraception much but guess I'll have to at some stage.....
can i suggest you try the online shop? i've done it a few times online with W**lworths and to be honest for the extra $9 or so for delivery i think its worth it - the delivery driver brings it into the kitchen for me and if I don't have time to unpack it all at once i just chuck the cold/frozen stuff in the fridge or freezer and get to the rest later. You are also less likely to impulse buy online I think...
Hayley definately tries to put her hands in her mouth - i'd rather give her a dummy than have her suck her fingers, as you said there are pros and cons for each but IMO a dummy is easier to take away for good than fingers/thumbs which are there forever! A good friend of mines kids gave their dummies to santa one year to take to the new babies as presents in exchange for their own presents. Apparently was a bit tough for a day or two but they kept reminding them of their good deed to the new babies and of how happy they were with their fantastic new toys! I love hearing all these things parents do with their kids and hope that I'm that clever to come up with this stuff when I need to!

As for going back to work of some kind - I'm on mat leave for 12 months but we want to expand DH business and I'll be the one running it but at this point I can't see it happening until at least February. Right now my spare time in between feeds and settling is devoted to sleep, catching up with people, giving my dog some attention and the internet

Nic - Wow, well done on your weight loss! It won't be long until you are at your pre-Nixon weight by the sound of things. Running around after 2 boys is a great way to lose weight, who needs exercise?! Kieran sucked his thumb the day after he was born and was gouging his eyes with his other fingers so I gave him a dummy as soon as we got home just so he wouldn't hurt himself. I also agree that it is easier to get rid of dummy later than getting them to stop sucking their thumb.

Saffi - Good luck grocery shopping today! You will be a pro at it before you know it.

Kate - Glad to hear Hayley is doing well, she sounds like a nice healthy bub.

Catherine - Moving back to the country sounds great. Is that where your family is from?

I rang the maternal health line today regarding Kieran chucking up heaps and being windy and she suggested feeding him upright, so I will give that a go during his next feed. She said to keep him upright after a feed, but I was doing that anyway. I may try elevate his bed later as well, but he is snoozing happily in it right now.

Trish - I have to start working from home again in a couple of weeks and I am freaking out a bit. I know I only have one child unlike yourself, but I find myself fairly busy during the day as it is and if I'm not it's usually to do with the fact I am so tired I need a rest or a nap! I really wish I could have a whole 12 months off, but inlaws would go nuts! They think if DH and I are apart of the family business, we have to work harder than the rest as we are the youngest! Arrrr! And to answer your question, I love going to Mother's group. It stops in couple of weeks until Feb which really sux! lol I hope a few of us can meet up between now and then. I also want to organise some get togethers with our antinatal class member. We have our reunion tomorrow so I hope we can organise something between us all!

QLD girls - Its great you're able to have another get together so soon. You could have your own little mother's group! :)

Not much to report here. Had a much better night last night and got another sleep in this morning. Tiera has been an angel today and has slept most of the day! I am still waiting for her to wake for a feed (she's stiring now).
Good anti-natal reunion tomorrow which I am really looking forward to.... Get to meet everyones little bub and can see if our predictions of what eachother were having are correct!

Hi everyone. Hope you are all having a great day. I am having a shocker. Ethan is so unsettled again and is refusing to feed much. He is always like this but I am so sick of it. A friend suggested that I try some soy formula so that is what we are now trying. Too soon to tell if it is different. Got an appointment with the GP tomorrow and this time I am insisting on a referral for a pead. Any body else have a baby that is formula fed that just cries instead of eating? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

saffi - a room thermometer is indispensable. i use mine every single day - actually every time i'm in there because i'm addicted to it. it's an infrared one that they use to figure out where insulation etc is needed. only problem is sometimes he's so quiet in there i might not do a last check at night and will find he's gotten cold. had to break out the ol' mittens last night.

catherine - so i did it. i bit the bullet and let Louis look up my hooha. says it's all looking happy. even committed to a smear. egads. cervix was hiding as usual. what fun getting it to come out to play... sigh. *eyeroll*. the big fella is going great guns. cracked the 6kg mark and is 60cms long. i just hope the speedy growth thing chills out so he's not a gigantor around the other kids when he starts school.

in other news... i feel abandoned.... *sings* "movin' to the country, gonna eat a lot of peaches" i can't believe you're leaving already! :cry:

petachristy - did you sell the pump? i do want it if you didn't already get rid of it. i saw the hospital grade one for hire at the chemist and it freaked me out, looked like a giant air compressor. how boogedy. so... if you wanna sell, i wanna buy.

alz - My bub isn't bottle fed, but my nephew was and we had a similar prob with him. It was a matter of trial and error with him. We had to try a few different formulars before we found one he'd take and that didn't make him sick. He ended up on S26 I think its called.
Hope he starts to settle soon for, you poor thing!

Tiff - Bummer you have to start working again soon. Will you at least have less hours than before? Have fun at your ante-natal reunion!

Alz - Sorry you are having a shocking day :hug: . Glad you are seeing the GP tomorrow, good on you for insisting on a referral. I hope you get some answers really soon so you can have a break. Have you got a sling you can wear him in for a little while? I found this a great way to settle my first DS when he was really unsettled. Sorry I can't offer you any advice re: formula. Hopefully changing to soy will help, otherwise maybe just a different brand of formula may work? Hope your day gets better!

I just had a nice nap while the boys were asleep. I have a shocking headache though so I feel pretty yuck. I tried feeding Kieran upright the way the MCHN suggested, but it just wouldn't work. He couldn't latch on and I felt really unco! I ended up just tilting the feeding pillow so his bottom half sloped down. This seemed to help because he didn't cry during his feed. I also tilted his mattress and he went straight to sleep and has been asleep for a couple of hours. He still seemed windy after his feed though. Oh the fun of newborns!

Pish- Thanks for the encouragement. It is a relief to hear that there are others in the same situations. Did your nephew need soy S-26 or just straight S-26?

Alz, Maddi was like that she would scream/cry barely drink 100mls of formula & she was so unhappy, then i changed her formiula & now she's drinking 150-200mls & so much more happier.
It's not soy formula eithr :)

Nic WTG on the weight loss.

Well after Rhys sleeping from 10:15pm to 6am and getting a decent sleep and he has been an angel today....I think shopping last night must have pooped him out!! I can say I have cleaned the house from top to bottom changed all the sheets on the beds and towels and done all of Rhys' ironing!! SIL bought a whole heap of clothes for him when he was born in 1's and 2's and they all needed ironing!! I feel good now cause everything was starting to really s**t me, just the dust collecting everywhere!!

Catherine - Good to hear about selling your investment property in Emerald!! Can't remember hen you said you were leaving to go to the folks, but I bet your dad can't wait to met Rochelle!!

Nickers - WTG on the weight loss!! I have 8kgs to go to get to my pre PG weight but I want to lose a whole heap more as well, I have already started walking three times a week, Rhys absolutely loves being in the pram so that is a bonus.

Thanks to the few of you who remembered Chelsea's Birthday it means a lot (even if u did cheat Sarah..lol). I now have a baby and a toddler. She had an awesome day, and got very spoilt.
