Yay morv!! glad you've popped back in to say hi. such a cute story about JJ. I can just picture it. I love the photo of him too - just adorable.
I'm not really following the controlled crying rules. I pick her up if she gets sad, give her a cuddle and put her down. I've been staying next to her until she goes to sleep. I feel so sad when she's so upset, because she's a baby who is generally happy all of the time.
I really need to do it for her, me and the rest of the family. I guess it's a good thing that she won't remember it when she's older lol.
Oh no seems like alot of us are having sleep issues with bubsies! Hang in there ladies, at least we are all in it together hehe.
Think I'm gonna have to check out these FP LP for chrissy/birthday!
Jazmum - Sorry to hear the CC didnt work for you. We also tried a bit last night, its too hard we gave in too. Who cares, I've come to the conclusion that we do what we have to do, whether it be feeding to sleep, rocking/cuddling to sleep. Although it would be nice for you to wake up next to your DH every once in awhile at least. The cuddles are so special arent they?
Noni - Well done on starting Asha early on cutlery. I could just imagine the mess M would make!
Leemar - Hope the boys havent gotten any worse? OMG childcare is not cheap. I hear you on that one.
MD - I so agree on being calm yourself when settling bub. I have noticed that when I am feeling uptight and impatient it takes so much longer for M to settle. Ohh tax is such a pain, we are the opposite to you, we are expecting a tax bill of around $10,000 this yr due to capital gains tax from selling our little unit. Not looking forward to that one, but we have put the money aside especially for it. Just dont like handing out that amount of money when I think of the awesome holiday 10 grand could buy lol. Yay for you for getting a refund!!!
Falguni - I too have given Maddie peanut butter...but by mistake lol. I was so sick and wasnt thinking straight, and then a few days later I'd realised she'd had peanut butter toast two days in a row hehe. So I wouldnt worry too much unless a history of allergies?
Pregpan - For such a busy mummy you are doing so well! I cant believe you have labelled meals, talk about organised. Well done!! I am planning on trying your thai patties this week, I copied down your instructions. Also want to try Jazmum's chicken balls.
Arte - lol at William one sock, little cutie. Yep I too spent this time last year poking my belly and eating sugary things to feel movement. Cant believe how fast the time has gone, its a bit sad. I see all the pregnant girls at work & get all emotional. They are so excited now and I'm even more excited for them knowing the journey they are about to take!! I hope you fall pregnant very soon.
Hi to Clare & Morv!
Does anyone have any tips on starting to use the sippy cup? Which one is the best? We have the magmag but I'm not sure its that good? Does M need to be able to hold her own bottle first?
Jazmum - Further to the above, they say that after a few days they get used to it. You are right she wont remember it. You do need to do it for yourself and your relationship with your DH. You will get through it!
Thanks mm - hopefully it will only take a couple of days - don't think i can bear to hear her cry every time she has to go to bed!
re the sippy cup, i bought a Tommy Tippee one from Woollies. It has 2 handles on the side. I initially gave her one without handles, and she didn't seem to care for it. Hannah has water from it in the afternoon. Are you planning on giving her milk in one to replace her bottle? Perhaps just give it to her with water in until she gets used to it.
locksmith coming to fix the windows today and then everything is done yay hopefully then the real estate will leave the inspection for a while so we can just enjoy the place.. pest man came yesterday to deal with the ****eroaches.. theres not many but i know they multiply quickly and they were here before we moved in so they are responsible for it.. the guy was a bit of an idiot tho i'm not convinced he did a good job oh well time will tell i spose..
yep were having big sleep issues here!!!
last night asha came straight to bed with me because neither dp or i could get her to settle in her own bed and then she woke up every hour winging and tossing and turning and then at 6am she decided it was time to get up grrrr...
mm - asha wont drink from a sippy cup lol she just bangs them around usually she drinks water from one of those mini pump bottles but i still have to hold it for her lol or she just squirts it out everywhere... the using her own cuttlery thing does make a hell of alot of mess but i am hoping if she can get it early then that will save me some time that and i can make her breakfast while i am half asleep plonk her in the chair and rest while she eats it.. think i am just lazy lol
jazmum - goodluck with the cc i rty to let asha cry but she just works herself up and dh gets mad at me for not doing anything.. i sware he thinks i am the most useless parent ever atm always judging me for little things grrr men never understand!!
can anyone explain this whole family tax benefit and doing a tax return to me??? do i needa do a tax return or will it just be part of dps? i havnt worked at all this financial year so...
will family tax give us alot of money? i am so confused!! pretty sure we are both way under estimated from the start of group certs that have started coming in centrelink estimated me at like 10,000 and then cut off my payment when dp got a full time job so it was only like 4000 lol
Morning everyone - just back from coffee with some school mums. I'm finding it so much easier with Hannah having more solids. She sat in the high chair and had her brekky - a bowl of weetbix, some Two Fruits and then she had some of my yummy pancakes. She was as happy as Larry.
The comforted crying is getting a little easier. I only leave the room if she starts to play, and that is when she cries. She is quite happy to lay in her cot and let me pat her to sleep. At one stage I was on the floor and she'd gone to sleep - i was trying to quietly make my exit - which is really difficult with my clicky bones lol. Got to the door and the old knee made a huge noise and woke her up. It was quite funny.
She woke twice through the night, but i only had to put her dummy back in. At 5:30 i gave her a feed, but she just wanted to do a poo. She went back to sleep until 8am which is great. She's back asleep now.
i made her a yummy dinner last night - Fish with Orange and carrots. It smelled delicious, so i'm going to make it for the family one night.
I used orange roughy - put it in a baking dish and squeezed the juice of one orange over it. Sprinkled some cheese over the top and a few little dobs of butter - covered with alfoil and baked it for 20minutes. I mixed it with mashed potato, carrot, broccoli and cauliflower, so it lost most of the tasty flavour. But hannah loved it.
Sorry for the ramble. Off to do something fun with Zoe.
Hi everyone! been sooooo busy I haven't had time to post!
Hi Maryann!!! go great to see you pop in and give us a JJ update - he sounds so cute!
Noni, you will have to do a tax return because you were still working after July 1 last year weren't you? once both you and your DP have done them and the ATO has processed them, they send your details to Centrelink to cross reference with their details (or vice versa - can't remember who contacts who). Once they have completed it they will either pay your top-up FTB A and pay you the supplements for A&B (which will be pro-rata because they were born in sept) or if you were overpaid, they wont pay you the supplement A&B (which were brought in to cover the inital part of any debt you may incur) and if the supplement doesn't cover it they will then reduce your fortnightly payments to recover the debt. Clear as mud LMAO?
JaZaH, I've got to say the responsive comforting is easier at our house because E bellows like she's cranky, rather than heartbroken! I make sure I'm giving her lots of extra cuddles and attention during awake times too. She's waking much less and settles much quicker most of the time now. I feel like my sanity is slowly leaking back to me each night she sleeps better. Even though I never really wanted to have to resort to CC, if MD goes down over the next three months the whole ship will sink. I didn't feel I had the luxury of not doing CC in the end.
Leanne have you talked to the FAO to find out whether you are eligible for child care benefit?
hi md - that's so great that E is sleeping much better for you through the night. I'm the same with Hannah when she is awake. I tell her how much i love her, and give her big squishes. She's not getting upset when we go in her room, so that's a good sign as well.
Marydean, glad to hear that you are getting some sanity back and that Miss is is settling easier for you.
Jaz, that's a great result for you and Hannah too
Noni, if you don't have to file a tax return, then you need to call centrelink and tell them or otherwise your payment will be held up while they wait for you to file one.
thanks for that sherie i'll do that asap so that when dp files one it all comes through coz i assume it is based on what he earns too..
the people across the road just gave me a massive dolls house coz they didnt want it anymore.. this thing is soooo huge you could use it as shelves or something on the inside lol thats how big it is!! thinking of sadning it back and painting it coz the colours arent overly nice lol..
MM, we have the Heinz non-spill sippy cup but unless they know to suck hard you basically have to take out the non-spill valve to get any liquid to come out so it isn't that great. We also have a Tommee Tippee non-spill straw cup. W loves that one, he walks along with it hanging out of his mouth because he can clamp onto the straw so he doesn't need to use his hands. MD suggested the Avent magic cup, I was looking for that but decided you couldn't get them here and so got the TT one, then the next day I found it.
Noni, tax confuses me too. I am going to fill in the etax and if we get a refund I will submit it, otherwise I won't bother lol
MD, glad that E is sleeping better for you. When does your DH go?
After making us wait 5 months for our house to be ready then letting us move in, the housing manager has just told us that the dog won't be allowed inside When the shed is finished next week she is supposed to move out there. If they had told us that at the start we could have found somewhere else months ago. She is 10 and has always been an inside dog. She would bark and bark if she was left out there. We are not sure if we should complain or just sign the lease and let her in anyway. Honestly the baby makes far more mess on the carpet than the dog.
just a quick one from me as we are about to head back to melbourne...
JaZmum: i remember some information that i used for a talk i gave on baby sleep for my mums group, and we all found the sleep strategies used by Karitane to be really gentle (and adaptable). i'm not sure i can post the link, but if you type in karitane into google, then it comes up with their website and you can follow the links...
Another bad night for me last night. I took the boys to the dr today and they have a virus so now they are on antibiotics...
MD- Yep they told me we were not entitled to it.
Noni- WTG on the dolls house it sounds great.
Jazmum- glad its getting better with H CC
Art- WTF thats wrong of them.
Better go.. Hello to everyone. Will catch up later
hi girls
sorry i've been so MIA
dp has been in sydney so i've been staying at my dad's place cos i'm a scardey cat! and i don't like being here alone at night.
he is on his way home now and we are heading out to a romantic dinner just for the three of us at 6.30. i'm so looking forward to it.
lewis has been sick again. i feel like every time i meet up with one particular mothers group (i have 2, long story) lewis comes away sick. it has happened 3 times in a row now. it makes me not want to go to that mothers group as i feel like i pay for it for a week afterwards grrr
the meetup looked fantastic girls. you are all stunners and the babies aren't bad too
wouldn't it be fantastic if we could all meet up somewhere one day?
arte- way to go on the ttc thing! i was unsure about my fertility but as you may remember we only really tried for a period of about 2 weeks? before i pulled the pin and said i wasn't ready. i'm not sure the exact timing of everything, but it really was a very small window of opportunity- and i am still breastfeeding flat out!
i'd be very upset about the dog thing. can you push it and say that you will move out if they don't allow the dog inside? hopefully then they would just let you to avoid the hoo-ha
ange- cooking for 11? are you kidding me??? i'm hard pressed cooking for 3 and a dog.
leanne- sorry to hear everyone is so sick. look after yourself ok?
noni- i love dolls houses. how fantastic!
clare- i may have to google that info too. i've just ordered the book 'no cry sleep solutions' so i'm waiting to read that to get a few ideas.
mm- lewis likes the tommy tippee sippy cup the best. i got it from safeway (woolworths).
hi sherie and md
jaz- best of luckon the cc thing. it's so hard isn't it? lewis is still in our bed and i feed him back to sleep all the time. i'll probably have to think about making some changes before #2 comes along
Rainy, how have you been? I ordered the no-cry sleep book and the very day it arrived in the mail he started to sleep better lol. I haven't even read it yet, I was just happy that he started to sleep for 1.5 hours for his day sleeps without needing to be fed to sleep half way and he wakes every 2-3 hours at night now which is a fantastic improvement from every hour
Got to go, DH having trouble dressing wriggly baby
ETA Rainy, in the end the only reason that W started sleeping longer than one sleep cycle is that he got a cold and his nose was too blocked to feed back to sleep very well so after a couple of days he started sleeping the whole nap without bothering to wake.
