Babies Born September 2007 #46

We are miles overdue for immunisations, they were due at 15 months and I still haven't taken him. Things keep coming up, we were going on holiday, then moving and now he has had a runny nose cold for the last month. I am not too worried as I wanted him to be a bit bigger anyways. I think I will split them over two visits, the MMR and then the other two (influenza b and pneumococcal) at a later stage.

Cally, don't feel bad, as the others have said it is hard to know with collarbones and you knew something was up straight away. MIL sent DH to school for two days before she took him to a doctor after he fell out of a top bunk and broke his - she told him to harden up and stop whinging lol

PAP, how did your meeting go with FDC?

Rainy, I am sure that L is loving the time he is spending with his dad. He still sees you lots during the day, I am sure you spend time with him while J is asleep. Don't feel guilty because you aren't spending as much time as you used to with him, it is how it is and he will adapt quickly. Bummer about the bottle, W would never take one either.

MD, I think I could denial a pregnancy away if I were in the wrong place in my life. How are you doing? Has it sunk into reality for you yet? What is the next step?

Looks like we are on a good path to weaning, he hasn't had a feed for 3 days now. At night I give him a bottle of milo (I am sure it is bad for his teeth but we can work on that later) and then he wants a BF but I tell him cuddles instead and he grumbles a bit then goes to sleep. I have had no milk for weeks now, the other night he even asked for some 'empty please' lol. Day naps are going o.k because he has fallen asleep in the car the past few days and yesterday fell asleep on the couch watching telly for the first time ever!

His talking is very amusing, he is doing 3-4 word sentences and is very cute. At the supermarket today he saw me putting chippies in the trolley and kept saying 'chippies one out please' because he desperately needed one. DH lit the bonfire with some petrol the other day and it exploded a bit, W kept saying 'fire boom, more petrol' and heading off to get the petrol can lol He is a fire bug already!

SupaB - ok well here's my first thought - let's you and me get together soon while I still have hair!! PM me/txt me and we'll organise a hot coffee (and because it's close to easter well it will have to involve chocolate I"m sure) DATE!!

Also - Clare is having her tonsils out - they have been infected to the point of dragging her into hospital in a state of near-organ failure so they need to GOOOOOOO!

Supa we're getting vacc's organised next week - for everyone in the household - including Whooping cough booster etc for me. Missy E will have her fluvax as well as the chickenpox one. Preemptive strike.

Anyone got any April Fools moments to report...? :p

Clare you deserve all the icecream and jelly you can shovel in next week. xxx LOL

ETA - Yep Arte it has sunk in good and proper and I've been taking every child-free opportunity I get to have a good cry. "Their" next step is a core biopsy to determine the nature of the mass and formulate a treatment plan, I will see Mr Compassion (oncologist) on the 17th (it's a ***** - that's my sister's birthday) to find out what the treatment plan is - chemotherapy +/- surgery. "My" next step is to write in my journal a lot, eat plenty of cake, visit my new friend at the health food shop, find a TCM/Naturopath to get my immune system boosted, watch lots of funny tv, plant a hope garden that I can watch grow and bloom as I recover, work out how to start telling people, and enjoy the night out at the HILTON that we've got booked this weekend (woohoo!). Oh, and shop for hats. For obvious reasons.

How are you feeling about how the weaning's coming along? Relieved or sad? :hug:

Well Arte, I'm thinking of shaving it off before it gets a chance to fall out. My sister said she would shave her head with me so we can both have "dykey do-s" PMSL. Or I might get a number 1 all over with tracks in it. TBH I'm more worried about losing my eyebrows than I am my hair. Always fancied I'd like to shave my head, at least once. Well now I've got an excuse. LOL Seriously tho, it might not happen, depends on what drug regime "they" decide is best. I'm just getting in early and getting the crying done now so when it happens it's just a thing that happens. Kwim?

ETA - plus I've always had short hair so it' not a drama like it would be if I had long tresses. Never been my best feature...apparently sometimes it grows back a different colour (!) or curly (!)...so I can only hope!! :p

excuse my ignorance but how do they do biopsies (i should know as i did watch Home and Away last year, but all they showed was 'martha' with tubes up her nose in post op). i hope that it isnt too nasty, and/or they give you loads of happy pain relief on tap.

we had a lovely day yesterday. the usual mothers group indulgence of coffee and lunch (we have our local cafe situated in a big warehouse with toys so the kids can go nuts). then leila slept for 2 hours and when she woke up told me that she was in a foul mood and i better entertain her, so we jumped in the car and went to the pool for an hour. so much fun!

MD, Elizabeth Taylor's hair grew back white and fluffy! Eyebrows would worry me too, but you can get cosmetic replacements - not sure how real they look though - might be better to go without than have obvious toupee brows! I can't stop thinking about your breast (lol), well the lump in it. I find it amazing that you had it checked so long ago and they found nada, yet it was there all along. I am glad they didn't find anything amiss while you were preg and away from home, at least now you are in a place to get it all fixed up.

MD you can try out all your hair fantasies with wigs??? there are some that are so wonderfully realisitic - i know afew women who have used them... hmm i wouldnt be wishing for the curls though... seriously from someone who knows they are not all they are cracked up to be LOL! though you can then become a GHD expert like me when you are trying to get rid of them.
ok i need to know, is there a haighs in melbourne? i think so?? i must admit i dont think i have ever had it, and now i MUST! we are there for a week from this weekend so think it'd better be placed on my to do list! clare was going to suggest a catch up maybe (and i love the sound of your cafe, where is it?) but maybe it will coincide with your slice and dice? if not lets plan something (also rainy and all the other melb mums, IT'S TIME LADIES!!).

Well as for me, i havent had much news of late. am suffering a bit as i have an unstable pelvis (is this what you had in preg MD) - OUCH! been to physio which is good and looking fwd to yoga today as maybe that will help now i know what tje prob is. i feel like such a whinger this time, it just hasnt been as easy as last! that said we have now agreed on a name and the little one is basivally a footballer in my tum so lots of kicks all the time which i am loving! N is going through a terrible terrible sleep time, i think i told you all about it a while back up for hours in the night etc etc, stillgoing on, he is still getting his incisors and is in pain poor little mite. his walking is amazing now and new fave work (complete with action some of the time) is RUN! he is a delight!
i have put in my leave forms for mat leave - about 10-11 weeks to go - YEEEEEEEEEEEEE HAAAAAAAAAAAA!

MD - I too love the fact the you've got cake and health food shop with a few words of each other!

Cassius - No day sleeps definately wasn't by my choice but yep, she seems to last the distance. Gets a bit feral at 5ish but most kids do anyway don't they? :rolleyes: Last night she was worse than normal so put her to bed at 6.30 instead of 7 and she was fine. Didn't hear from her until 6am which is great in my book.

PAP - So what name have you chosen hey...?! ;) Woohoo on the mat leave coming up!

MD, I suppose one positive to take from it is that with the lump being there all that time and only now finding out, is that you could have been riddled with it by now if it were aggressive kwim? So I would assume that if it's not aggressive then it will respond well to treatment? Most people I know who go through chemo get curly hair when it grows back. But my Mums partner didn't lose any hair at all when he was having chemo earlier this year for bladder cancer. I just feel so helpless about it all though.

No pee-your-pants-funny stories from the zoo, but he really loved it. He did get a bit confused when we were watching the meerkats though and he kept meowing and he was totally enraptured by them. Every time we saw a new animal though, he was like "over there!" and pointing to it. By the end of the day he was completely over it and sick of being put in and out of the stroller and car (cause you can walk or drive, so we took the cars as we had a picnic lunch) and as we were leaving we didn't even get to the front exit before he was asleep LOL. Oh, he did get to pat a Galapagos Tortoise too - it was next to the fence and the enclosure is really low, so I leaned him over for a pat LOL. Probably not meant to do that though ;) But the downside of the trip is that his sleeping has gone to the pack and he's funny about me putting him in his cot and leaving him there. While we were away he would only settle to sleep if I was holding him and he was up so often in the night I had to resort to cosleeping again so I could at least get some sleep. Made me glad we didn't take a proper holiday just yet.

Trill - sounds like you had fun. I'm now thinking i might take the girls to the zoo over the easter hols. I'm sure Hannah would love it. (although I have emu issues - last time we went to Australia Zoo there were emu chicks. Jessica had walked over near the fence and i just reached her in time before the mother/father ? pecked her.

pap - wooohoo on the mat leave. I hope those toofie pegs come through quickly for N. He's such a gorgeous little thing.

clare - lol on the bold and beautiful pause. I reckon 15 minutes of the half hour episode is just made up of staring. lol.

arte - i bet W looooves his Milo. I'm sure Hannah would love it too - might give it to her for an afternoon treat today.

md - The chemo my mum was on did make her hair fall out. She too chose to shave it off before it fell out. It was good because she came over to my place and we did it in front of the girls so they didn't get as much of a shock. Mum used to wear scarves - as the wig (there is a pic of Hannah wearing it on FB) used to annoy the crapola out of her. Jess and Zoe put undies on their heads one day and said they were Nanny. it was too funny. That is so great that your sis is going to shave it with you - what a wonderful friend to have :)

Hannah had her needle on Monday, and today she hasn't been herself. She is fine one moment and the next throwing herself on the floor for no reason - kicking and stretching her legs as if she had growing pains. My poor little chicken.
She's also taken to wanting to be put straight into her cot instead of having our special cuddle. Cheeky monkey.

speaking of feeling guilty this week - my dh (not standing for dear husband in this instance!!!) decided to make the rest of my day crappy. The girls were at each other, yelling about who was making funny faces at who, and i lost it a little and raised my voice several times. Nothing incredibly bad though. Dh (still not dear husband!) thought he'd make a comment that i sound like a banshee. (of course he's laying in bed while he hears me :rolleyes:) Then in the car (made me go out of my way to drop him off at the station) says' I don't know how you can enjoy life yelling at the girls all of the time'. I apologised to the girls (not in front of him) and then thought - hang on- you two were little turds this morning.

sorry everyone. what a bloody rant!!!! Kate - have been thinking about the words you used to describe the person who ran into you in the car (are you okay? ) and i've been throwing it around a bit in my head today lol.

Clare can you do some more discreet research - finding out more about how much he might already know - before you decide? I certainly wouldn't do anything quickly at this stage. Let the information settle for a while and then let your heart decide. ETA - want to add - curiosity alone is not the best reason for making contact. The biopsy is just a fat needle in the boob, done with an ultrasound so they aim right. They better use a local or someone will get kicked in the goonglies for sure.

JaZaH, I think you wrote the manual on how to stay calm...I would've been screeching banshee-like at DH well before we arrived at the station. :lol: Just to confirm what he said. LOL. Seriously - just remember no-one's head ever ACTUALLY exploded from being too cranky at their children or DH (even if it sometimes feels like it will). I think perhaps you just need to have a little laugh, and work out what day of your cycle you're on, and then organise to get out of the house for a coffee with a friend while DH minds the girls. :hug:

I like that your mum shaved her head with you and the girls - that's a great idea for if/when the time comes. I really think a wig would just **** me off no end. I much prefer the idea of a coupla funky hats/scarves, or going around like some sort of scary lesbian-skinhead-butch-feminist chick than wearing a WIG! Plus I discovered (we all love google) that it's actually a kinky fetish for some guys...PMSL! BTW I don't like emus and least of all at those places where they are allowed to walk around near the people.

I think we sort of talked around this when I saw Dr Mr Compassion the other day (tho I am having trouble remembering the specifics). Anyway I've decided to take a chill pill rather than obsessing about every detail, kwim? It doesn't really make a lick of difference if it's breast cancer or lymphoma or a ten-headed alien hatching in there. It doesn't change the work I need to do to heal my life. It is enough for me to know about how the drs have arrived at decisions about my treatment, and the rest of it belongs with the mysteries of the universe which even medical science is not equipped to understand. RE the feeling helpless - well don't. You know your support holds me up in a tangible way. Just as much now as it did when I was pregnant and in such anguish at my aloneness. xxx

PP - OUCH hun! No no no on the SPD - Puh-lease don't go there! yep that's what I had. You will need to talk to your yoga instructor because some stretching becomes counter-productive very quickly (which is why I never did join you for yoga in the end). You will notice it when you start to clunk and click and waddle after a session. Take care!!!

Arte- Oh I have visions of stick-on furry Bert brows...no no no!! LOL I'm not a fan of the pencilled in line, drag-queen style, either. I KWYM about my Funky Boob. The thought of it having been discovered when I was actually pregnant or even BFing would've been pretty traumatic for me, and much harder for my family to cope with as well. So I'm kinda thankful on the timing.

Clare, I don't tell many people this, but I'm not actually the eldest child - Mum had a baby girl when she as 17 and had her adopted. The way it was sprung on me was in some pretty dreadful circumstances and I was only 10 so I found it really hard to deal with for a long time and Mum found it really hard to deal with the incessant questions from me that followed. I know that he is older, but if you're going to do it, I think you need to get in touch with your father first kwim? It would be pretty hard for him to take in and accept if it were just dropped on him. I have never met or been in touch with my half sister as she sent a letter to Mum years ago saying she never wanted contact (not nasty, just that she didn't need to explore that part of her life kwm?) but I did find her on FB too.

Jaz, My DH ;) says that about me too - especially in the morning on a school day and I just tell him to get his ass out of bed and help me if it's assaulting his ears to have to listen to me. Mind you he says that while he's drinking the coffee I made him :rolleyes:

Clare, I met my father when I was 22, he left when I was a little bub. I agree with Kate, make contact with your father first - it might upset a whole heap of family balance if your bro doesn't know and finds out via some random chick on the internet iykwim? I guess curiosity was a factor in finding my father but mostly I wanted to know medical history.

Clare - yay for going under the knife, hope you heal up quickly and you can put those pesky tonsils behind you!!

PAP - how did your FDC interview go? Any progression?

All good here. DD is over her snuggly stage (only lasted a day) and is now back to normal and trying to do everything with her sling on. Still being very good and not taking it off too much. The GP this morning said it will most likely be fully healed in 3 weeks which is great. She gets 2 weeks off childcare then it is school holidays and home with DH so by the time she goes back she will be fully recovered and we won't need to worry about her getting knocked or anything.

well ihavent had the FDC meeting yet,I am very frsutrated about it. she keeps cancelling or isnt available - i think she knows i am going to complain (for the 3rd time) and wants to avoid me!!!
in the meantime we have steppedup our search for options - he is back on the list at the creche at DH work (but isnot going to get in for some time) and ihave been back in touch with 2 other centres - one that is opening in june (i hope) in the local primary school - that he will have aplace in i hope and one that he has been on the waitlist for for ages. mypref is prob to stay with fdc vbut i cant see them resolving in a hurry... thanks so much for asking!

Hannah and i have had a wonderful morning today. It's been pouring with rain so no outside play (although we did have a bit of a run through the rain when we got home from taking the big girls to school - which was lots of fun) I set up a tent in our family room in front of the tv - we watched teletubbies. It was so cute because i was laying down on my stomach and she was sitting up next to me with her arm around my neck. I could have stayed like that all morning. :) We had some morning tea in the tent and then we did some collage. (well, i stuck the patty cases on and she sucked on the glue stick ;) ) Then we did some dancing, and i had to spent about 10 minutes pretending to be a duck chasing her around the house!

Anyway, sometimes it's the simple things in life that are often the best :)

Too right, JaZaH. I had a grand time with Missy E riding our hobby horses (complete with noises and cowgirl hats) at kindergym this morning! LOL Love your idea of the patty-pan collage, they look like flowers, don't they? It's a good reminder to save all all the coloured easter-egg foil for craft this year!

BTW - the cubby-house was a no show. We'd asked to see it on Mon evening but they said no then sold it to someone else before we went on Tuesday afternoon. How rude! But, I'm putting 'cubby house' vibes out there and the universe can organise it for us now.

Cally - so does that mean you've taken 2 weeks leave while K's arm heals up? 3 weeks is amazing isn't it? I remember the dr telling me how fast little kids heal when DD1 broke her arm. You'll still have to be careful with it for a little while after that - no tandem skydiving or rodeo riding for a few months. :lol:

BTW Trill I keep forgetting to tell you I went with the sheer voile curtains after all that. They look fantastic AND I popped into spotlight yesterday and they were half price (!), so I bought some more for the study/den (same colour) and a lovely mellow teal colour called "haze" for our bedroom. Oh they look perfect. Now all I have to do is sew my QS bed quilt to match them. LOL

Clare, did you grow up with just your mum or did you get a step dad along the way? It was always me and my mum, and my bro too. Mum had a few partners over the years but I never thought of them as father figures (I was probably more mature than most of them lol). She has a great husband now though, I really like him. I know it always made people shy away when I said I didn't know my father, especially DH's family - if it came up in conversation they would quickly change the topic like it was some dirty little secret, when really it was just normal to me and didn't bother me at all. I guess it is a bit out of the norm not knowing your father, but if you don't know anything else then that is just how it is.

MD, did BSG arrive? It should have been there by tuesday, but I swore at the post lady a bit so maybe she dumped it in the bin instead of the post box lmao! I am not normally so rude but she diddled around for ages trying to find me in the 'system' (was trying to re-register my dog) and W was running around the library quacking and pulling stuff of the shelves. Then she just let me pay and she would sort it out later, but when I went back to post your disc she growled at me for not telling her my dog was in the system (well deh, I was re-registering her!) and the rego was overdue and she tried to give me a $50 fine that I refused to pay because I didn't even know the rego had lapsed. Then W slammed the front door so I went to get him and she growled 'open the front door!' so I snapped back for her to 'give me half a f*****n second'. He wouldn't have been getting into everything if she could actually manage to use the computer and didn't leave us standing there for half an hour. Grumpy old bag, I refuse to go back to that post shop/council office/library!

i just caught a glimpse of someone talk about AF. oh my goodness girls, i am a total B**** these days. What is with that? i found DH's $50 DJ's gift card yesterday amongst my jewellery - that expired the day before - 31 March.

took it in there today and searched for a male assistant. 'sorry can't do anything about it, maybe go see the cust service' which i did. they very kindly asked if i was happy to fill in some forms and it would take half an hr. i said yes very calmly.

then the system went down, so no reinstating my gift card, but she said i am allowed to go back there and she will do it another day! I AM SOOO WRAPPED! i told her if it were $20 bucks i wouldn't be so worried, but $50, and i have a baby etc etc..

I think DH is even more rapt than I am (if that is at all possible :D) however a fight has already broken out (DH vs DD) over the perky nanas (cos I'd already eaten one) and the lemon toffee (because DH ate some of DD's LOL)! yeah it was pretty much just mum and me growing up. there was a serious guy there for awhile when i was in my tweens and early teens but like you, not in a father figure sense, he was just a nice guy who loved my mum ITMS. and you're right, it was completely normal family situation for it to just be mum and i!

AFM: well still here, still unwell, but feeling the resolution coming closer everyday.
i have taken your advice and wont make contact with my brothers. and i feel good about that. not so much to protect them but more to protect myself from ppl that i just dont know ITMS. i would much rather be person to person and would sincerely want that to be my dad more than them. it still hurts when friends of mine hang out with my brothers and have to keep this secret, but we have come 25 years so far, so i guess another 25 can't hurt LOL!

our other news is that Leila is now trying her hand at sentences! we can now have 3-5 word sentences and it just makes my heart melt hearing her voice and her mind. i just love it.

Hi Ladies, sorry I've been missing in action. Our keyboard died & it took us a week to finally buy a new one. I have been using the on screen keyboard, but its so painfully frustrating to use, as you use the mouse to individually click each letter you need. I wasnt even going to attempt to post on here lol!!

Jaz - Thanks hubby for that unneccessary comment! Jaz I always look at your happy family pics on FB & think of what an awesome little family you have, & how great you & your hubby must be at parenting. We all have our feral days where kids just drive us up the wall, & banshee style shouting is normal lol.

As for the flu shot, I am getting it done for sure. I had it done last year & had no side effects (fingers crossed I havent jinxed us). I am wary of vaccinations for obvious reasons, but I 100% trust my doc, she is fab & I asked her what she would do & she told me she would most definately have it done if she had a young child, especially when in daycare. I think if they dont really mix with other kids alot they should be fine. She told me the risk of catching the flu by far outweighs the side effects of the shot. Obviously I am not pushing this on anyone, we all make our own choices for our kids, but just letting you know what my doc said for those who are contemplating it.

Went to a play center yesterday with M & a couple of other mums & bubs from mums group. I know M is a full on active little headstrong girl (could use so many other words to explain her lol) but I didnt realise just how much until I put her alongside others her age. She climbs up the huge ladders, while the others stand & watch. My child is a daredevil!!!!! Anyway I should have been next to her, but I was too busy gossiping, turned to look & there is M standing at the top of the stair thingo's about to come down. I was too late getting to her, & she tumbled right to the bottom, about a 2 meter fall. I was worried that she had bumped her head or broken something. All the other parents were like OMG!!! Would you believe she stood up, dusted herself off, & ran off to find some other trouble. LOL. Kids.

PAP - DH and I are alternating this week and then MIL is having her on Monday, DH and I are doing half day on Tuesday, then my mum is coming down for Wed and Thurs. Then Easter and we can hopefully have a break! What an annoyance about the FDC director. Hope you track her down soon or a spot opens up at one of the other centres. Not sure where you have names down, but I've heard a lot of good things about the centre in Deakin (behind Oasis).

Well I am not looking forward to Sunday morning - how early are we all going to be up!! I know it won't take that many days for bubs to get back on schedule but I really struggle with seeing that 5 as the first number on my clock when the monitor goes off in the mornings.

well we are having the biggest storm i have seen in a looong time ATM. it is pitch black outside the cottage beside us got struck by a bolt of lightening so the fire crew have turned up there are thunderbolts going nuts everywhere and yet, a whole bunch of students are doing a nudie rudie in the flooded paddock beside the building! ah well, maybe i am just getting too old LOL! i much prefer hot chocolate and a dvd at times like these LOL!

Clare, do you think you will contact your father? Can you please tell me what ITMS stands for, it is driving me crazy!!! I am sure it is very obvious lol W is doing bigger sentences now too, it is really cool to hear every thought that pops into his head and he can make decisions if I give him a couple of options which is helpful.

MD, lol the lollies were supposed to cheer you up, hope you enjoyed the family squabble?! I guess we are lucky to have a library at all, it is only a tiny town. I think they just put in a small library (size of an average lounge room) to justify the expense of a fancy council building when it isn't really needed.

MM, my goodness that is a long way for M to fall and just dust herself off! Sounds like she had a good time there.

Just quickly from me - I feel like I"m waling around in circles occasionally butting my head on the wall lately ROFL. It's madness here. Erin had been complaining of a sore ear for a few days, so the other day I tried cleaning it as she gets loads of wax, but bumped a pimple looking thing in ther and it bled, and I didn't think anything of it but now it's infected and is a great big ball of pus waiting to blow *blergh* so she has abs for it. While there our GP asked how old was Alister again and I said 18mths and he said, so you're not changing your mind about vaccinations? and I said 'nope, but thanks for asking' and he said, 'that's fine, I'll be here if you do". So glad I never coped flack for it from him.

Arte, it was driving me crazy for ages too, Clare says it all the time. It only twigged this very morning, If That Makes Sense?? LOL

Yeah, it was a happy-type squabble with lots of giggling, ITMS. :lol: They all know I get first pick of whatever confectionary comes thru the door (standard operating procedure here LOL). Does the library have anything worth looking at or at you completely at the mercy of whatever you can beg borrow or scrounge over the internet?

MM - M is obviously one of those fearless kids who never get hurt. DH was one of those - fell off a 2nd storey verandah at 18 months - fractured his skull but didn't skip a beat, was back playing normally the next day! She'll be a fantastic sports person later I'm sure.

Clare, you sound like you're having more weather excitement than anyone would ever want. Agree 100% on hot chocolate and couch!! (Nearly that time of year :D). Though sounds like you might've got a watch-the-firemen-for-free moment there. Not bad in itself. LOL

Cally, I'm glad you've got all the childcare covered, though you'll all be worn out by the end of the week I expect. Luckily we get a long weekend next weekend to catch up the whole daylight savings lag.

Rainy did the boys get wet - or did the pram do a fabulous-rain proofing job? I can just imagine you dashing (slowly LOL) up the mountain...!

SupaB - yes very proud of your retail-assertiveness moment! I've got some bras that I need to exchange - stupid lady fitted them completely wrongly then DH chucked out the receipt...wonder how I'll get on with that one?!

ETA - Trill, Poor chook, I've had the old boil-in-the-ear thing and awww it hurts! Good she's onto the ABs now, glad to your GP was happy to raise the subject but then leave it at that!
