oh, wow. did not see that coming - he ended up having a couple if 2 hr naps yesterday & for the first time was unsettled at night! fed at 11pm, didnt get him to sleep until nearly 1am. up again at 2am, bed at 3am. up at 5am fed & down at 6am, up at 6.30am, down again at 7am. Up at 9am. So. Tired. I have SIL & her husband coming for lunch today too. :-/
vic - mine sleeps well in the pram too, unfortunately my place is tiny & I live in a very hilly area with no footpaths otherwise I would gladly pop him in there & go for a walk. Im thinking of investing in a hammock, swing thing bc my back is getting quite sore swaying, patting, rocking & just holding him until he sleeps. I have a vibrating chair thing dh's parents bought for us but he doesn't really like that.
Hi I think my thrush/breast pain is finally all good. I don't want to speak too soon but it's been about a week with no pain! Yay! I'm expressing 3-4 times per day, and do both sides each pumping session. Previously I was pumping more often but only one side at a time. At least doing it this way I don't have to wash the pump so often! haha. Emily takes anywhere between 60ml - 120ml per feed, 6-7 feeds per day. She's consistently sleeping around 6-8 hours over night. But day sleeps are still quite bad! Cat naps for 20 mins here and there. Quite grizzly lately, she cries with real tears and everything! She's gone from pooing each nappy change, to going once or twice every couple of days. It worried DH at first (he thought she was constipated from me having the nurofen plus), but DR Google assures me it's all normal for this age as their little bodies adjust
My pap smear came back abnormal and I need to go back for another in 12 months time. I've already had a couple of surgeries to have abnormal cells removed so I'm hoping it's nothing to worry about. I am still a little ouchie down below, mainly just when going to the toilet. The pushing sensation hurts a little (sorry for TMI). DH and I have resumed DTD.
Emily smiles a lot, and is starting to coo and make cute little noises. If I copy her, she talks back. It's very sweet She has her fists in her mouth most of the time, and has just started looking at her hands. A couple of times it's looked like she's reaching for the toys on her play gym, but could just be flukes!
I obviously need a bit more sleep, turned up to first session of mothers group today... turns out first session was actually yesterday. Sigh...
Had 6 week OB appt last week & little guys first vaccinations. All good & I only cried a little when they jabbed him. : (
I'll come back later when I'm on my computer, just wanted to check in... still reading just not getting much time to post as little guy is still doing 30 min naps during day. Yawn... : )
Sorry to hear that you missed your first mothers group. How annoying to get ready and get out of the house only to discover it was yesterday. You poor thing. And the needles are so sad, but you know its the best thing for them.
Jack has started sleeping through the night. Hurray!!!! Since Friday night last week we have only been up one night for a bottle. I think he was cold and not hungry as he was sleepy drinking it and not that interested. Last night I rugged his up even more and slept from 8.00pm till 6.30am this morning. I woke up a few times to check on him, but he was fast asleep. He babbled about 5.45am but fell asleep again but come 6.30am he was ready to get up. Fine by me
peeks - meant to say last post that I hope your next pap is ok. xx
vic - so jealous of your sleeping baby atm. mines been sick this week & sleep is 2-3 hr blocks atm. although he did do a 9.30-5am last night.
afm - struggle town atm. our household had been sick with cold/flu. everyone is shattered tired & dh & I have zero energy for our little guy. It's been a rough week. to top it off my nips are cracked & sore again, back to pumping one boob & only managed 20 mls last pump. lucky he only drank half of the 60 mls I pumped previously. sorry to whinge, I'm just tired. mum is over to help for an hour or two, she's just cracked it a bit though bc I told her not to suck her finger & put it in my babies mouth. Eww. : (
Thanks Andie Sorry to see you missed your first mother's group! Did you make it there this week? We have the 30min cat naps here too, finding it hard to keep her occupied between bottles as she seems to be awake for far too long. How are your nipples going now? I hope they have come good and feeding is going okay. Eww to the finger in the baby's mouth! I had my SIL suck on DS1's bottle when he was a newborn to test the temperature, then put it straight into his mouth - I was so angry!
Vic, sounds like Jack is doing really well! Yay for the big sleeps over night. Is he still loving the carrier during the day?
Emily is 3 months old today. We had our 3-4 month clinic appointment and she weighs almost 5.5kg Still trucking along at around the 50th percentile. Such a petite little bubba compared to my boys who were right at the top of the chart!
peeks - lovely photos of emily, so cute! sounds like shes doing really well with her weight & growth. my little guy isn't on the chart for weight yet (4kgs at 8 weeks), but is about 25 percentile for height, he's long (ish!).
managed to make it to mothers grp this past week & there were some nice ladies there so hoping to make a friend or two. my little guy looked so scrappy next to the other chubby babies there... guess they are all different but he looked so weedy!
nips are going ok after another crash last week, still on the cream & having to do football hold on one boob to avoid cracks, but still managing. I'm starting to pump a little now so I can get a couple of feeds in the freezer for emergencies. like when my nips decide to fall apart again.
not much else to report, day time naps are still 30-40 mins but sometimes I can resettle in bassinet now so that's progress! I've done a couple of dream feeds over past week & seems to work quite well. he wakes but I pop him back in his basket & he goes back to sleep. still doing 6 hrs overnight (9.30pm-4am last night) which I'm thankful for. still a happy little guy, smiling & talking a lot now which is just so adorable. : )
just a quick share - little guy has been asleep in his bed 1.5 hrs & counting... he hasn't done more than 35-40 mins since he was around 7 weeks! maybe he knows we've got mothers group at 2pm?? : )
Andie, your little guy must be just a wee little thing, my DS1 was around 6kg at 8 weeks old The longer stretches at night make the pathetic day naps bearable, hey? I am usually only getting up to Emily once, but it can be as early as 1am, or as late as 5am! The 5am wake ups are a killer, as my boys are early risers so some days I don't get back to bed after feeding, changing, settling as they are awake and rather quite noisy. Did you make it to mothers group?? Typical that they sleep longer when you don't want them too Hope you do make some friends, it's nice to have catch ups with others going through the same ages/stages. It wasn't until my DS1 started kindy that I made friends with other Mums.
peeks, yeah he's a weenie. his weight gains are declining too which is a bit of a worry. 450, 375 & now 240 over past 3 fortnights. he's happy enough & doesn't look 'skinny', just small. not a bouncing, chubby baby by any means. wondering if its bc he's sleeping through the night now? he's feeding every 2.5-3hrs during the day though so still getting 6 feeds in. I did a dream feed last night but if I keep doing these to put more weight on will I mess with his lovely night sleep patten he's found? argh..! I did manage to get to mothers grp, albeit 45 mins late.. : )
cinder - no teething here, but get those cyst/calcium deposits from time to time which seem to hurt my boobs temporarily. hope your little one isn't too uncomfortable.
Hi Cinder Nice to hear from you! Good luck with your move, hope you all settle in to your new house quickly. I am not looking forward to teething, don't think Emily has started yet. How is your DD2 going with it? Hope she is not too unsettled. Can you feel the teeth?
Andie, not sure about the dream feed! It's so hard knowing what is right/wrong. I am doing this for the 3rd time and I still second guess myself. Maybe see how he goes with his next weight check. Who's been weighing him? GP or health nurse? Are they concerned?? If they are, I would try the extra dream feed.
I have decided to wean Emily from EBM - I have mixed feelings about it as I always thought I would BF her for longer but the pumping is getting too much for me. I have started today with mixing her bottles 40ml formula, 80ml EBM. Hoping to do the changeover slowly and pain free (for both of us!). I am having some issues with my DS2 at the moment, and I'm sure it is the stress affecting my supply!
peeks - he's getting weighed by mchn's, although it was a different mchn at mothers grp the other day so ive left a msg for my mchn (who I like better) so I can go in and see her about it. she said not to panic at this stage, but we should keep an eye on it. how are you going with the weaning? I can imagine the pumping would get tiring, especially if you're a bit stressed atm. its strange how difficult it is to get the milk flowing when you are stressed/tense. xx
Sorry I have been MIA. Life is pretty cruisy these days. Jack is happy, healthy and thriving. Sleeping through the night like a champ. He is 14 weeks on Thursday and such a lovely age. So much personality. He laughs and chats constantly and he is such a joy.
Mothers group is going well and the girls are a really great bunch. Jack is the second youngest so its great to see babies a bit ahead of him.
I have been bagging up bags of pureed apples, pears and carrots. He should be ready for solids from next month.
I have to go back to work next month and not looking forward to leaving him at day care. Its a really good centre and I know he will be fine but I still feel sad about it.
Hope all is well with everyone. Must fly, Jacks just woken up and needs a feed xxx
Hi vic, nice to see you Great to hear you and Jack are both well! I haven't thought much about solids here, we'll probably try hold off until 6'ish months (the same as I did with my boys). Will look into baby led weaning closer to the time. I had a hard time with my DS2 and getting him to eat lumpy food so I'd like to try avoid that this time.
Andie, are you able to get an extra feed or two in during the day?
My boys are on their second week of school holidays, must admit I am looking forward to them going back next week! It's been quite tiring sharing my time between the 3 kiddies. We did a day trip to the zoo over the weekend with other family, but apart from that we've been hanging out at home. Hoping DH will sit with Emily so I can take the boys to the cinema before they head back to school
Hi Tasha, Cinder, and anyone else who's reading. Hope you're all keeping well.
I hear you on being full on with a couple of kiddies peeks , I love my girls so much but having two of them now is a lot if work , I am just trying to work in spending item with DD1 while having DD2 as well . It can be hard to work around sometimes
I can only imagine how hard it must be to pump full time peeks , you have to do what feels right for you in the end <3
We won't be doing solids until 6 months + here as well , we did baby led solids with DD1 , she started eating the food we ate from about 6 months . We didn't do any mush food , I don't believe they need it .. DD1 loves eating from our plates and playing with it oh the mess of eating with a Bub hahah ..
I feel for you going back to work Vic , I will be honest I couldn't do it :/ glad you have a good child care ,so you will feel a bit better about leaving him ..
How's the feeding going Andie ?
No teeth here yet but very hard gums , lots of drool and chewing of hands and our fingers . Sometimes I can see little hard lumps as well .. She can get very unsettled with them only at times though , she has her moments
