Beata - we have a Jumperoo for Fraser and he loves it! How is Cam's head support? They do need to be able to support themselves, even though it has a back headrest. Good luck with it!
how awesome are jumperoo's!! Harri had a go in his cousins and he absolutely loved it (I think there's pictures on facebook somewhere) He was in the jungle one they have a target, it's really quite cool and has lots of things for them to look at and play with. We'll definitely be getting one when they're on sale. lol I can see everyone in here with the same one, how cute!
Harri is trying very hard to get moving, he's at a point now where I'm just expecting to see him across the other side of the room the second I look away. He spins himself around and moves maybe about 10 cm's before he gets pi**ed off lol.
Have booked in for the horrible 4 month needles/checkup next week, can't believe it's nearly been 4 months already, time is just flying! Hope you're all well
Teresa, thanks hun. I'm going to a 'food talk' thingie on the 20th, I will see what they say. So far I have asked both the paed & the MCHN about starting solids soon, but they were both advising me that I should wait until 5/6 months. The reason the MCHN gave me was that b/c Cam has some eczema, she's worried it might get worse with solids and the solids might give him some allergies. Apparently that's why they recommend 6 months, so the bubs system is working better with processing foods & with the allergies. Most of my friends' bubs started on solids around the 4 month mark, so I'll have to look into it.
Mia, thanks for the info on the jumperoo!!!! I think they are great. I will definitely be going back to Target on the 22nd. I just hope I can get my hands on one!! His head support is heaps better these days, he doesn't mind being on his belly as much and is really lifting his head high now. What an improvement from even 3 weeks ago!!!! I got down to business with tummy time, cos the health nurse said he should be doing it at least twice a day, so have been making him do it. Poor lovie
Meercat, I hear you on the daytime distractions! lol. He seems to be so interested in everything around him, but I find that by going somewhere quiet he feeds better. I have also changed him to the tomee peepee bottle/teat and he's been enjoying that (Teresa, I think you are a big fan of these?????). I got him the medium flow one (I was too scared to get him the fast ones) but I sometimes find that the teat makes a funny noise and when he lets go the teat is amost inverted?????? Does it mean I should be looking into the faster flow one?????????? Hmm, should look into that.
Missawah, Harri is just a little star!!!! Cam is sooooo behind him, lol! He is getting there slowly though. I think you're right, we will all have the rainforest jumperoos!!!!

beata - we love the closer to nature tommee tippee bottles. the little valve on the teat, just press that before putting it on the bottle and that will open it up so that it doesnt invert. we do that to all of our bottles before we give them to hamish. makes things much easier. he should be on the number 2 teats for his age. then goes to number 3 when he is 6 months old.
Oh thanks Teresa! I wasn't pressing the valve thing......thanks for the tip hun. I am using the no. 2 teat as the two bottles I got for a trial run came with the newborn teats. He seems to be feeding better with these bottles/teats. Why didn't I try them earlier???
I am! I sent my mum to Kmart today to get me a little blow up ball pit ($30 for the little pit and extra balls) Tiah is obsessed with it, and the best bit? DP loves it and keeps asking "Can Tiah and I play with the ball pit?" OF COURSE YOU CAN... TAKE HER!!!!
I too can't wait until the big sale!! I'm sending my DF in the morning so he can get me the jumperoo. I'm paranoid they will sell really quickly....
Can I ask you mummies how you spend your days with your bubs??? I'm worried that I don't go out enough with bub, that he spends his time mostly on his back (still hates tummy time) and that I don't do the things the books recommend, like read books at bedtime etc.
This is roughly what we do....
After the bottle in the morning, he normally is still quite sleepy so goes back to bed fairly quickly (ie little or no play). He sleeps max. 1 hour after each bottle, minimum 30 minutes. Then he'll be up and I'll normally do tummy time (usually less than 5 minutes) then I'll pop him on his play mat and he'll watch his baby einstein for 20 minutes. Then when he gets restless, I'll either take him for a walk in the pram or pop him in his bouncer or back in his cot as I can't carry his around for hours as he's so heavy now and my back is killing me. I never did get the baby carrier as he was just too heavy even when he was small. My back is really not that great, hence me seeing the osteo every fortnight.
I am getting the jumperoo so I can entertain him further w/o carrying him around.
Is there anything else I should be doing with him???? He gets bored really quickly I'm running out of ideas of how to keep him busy!
Beata - Your day sounds very similar to mine! Tiah comes out with me to hang out washing and sits in her bouncer while I fold washing or make dinner and chats with me. We also have about 30 mins of her laying on her mat with me dancing like an idiot to the radio to entertain her. And if the weather is nice I go for a walk.
It is so hard to find new things to do isnt it? At the Baby Sensory classes we go to the lady told us the ball pit was a good investment because all the colours and sensations of the balls around them keep them entertained - thats why we got one
We do read three stories every night as her bed time routine, but I am a huge reader so half the time I am just reading to her from the book I am reading atm
Meercat, about the dancing bit!!! I've done it too on plenty of occasions and then realised what an idiot I must look like! ha ha ha. It IS hard to find things to entertain them! The thing is that the weather has been pretty crappola here, average is 13 degrees and pretty miserable on most days. A few times I took him out in the pram (with the rain cover too) and sometimes he has been sniffly the next day, so I get paranoid about going out in the cold.
What ball thing are you talking about?? And what about the sensory classes? See I'm thinking maybe I should be looking at baby joga or something like that....anything to get him stimulated and tired!
As with the books, I really wanted to introduce them to him for bed time, but I have tried a couple of times and he does not seem that interested in it. I think I might have another go. He would rather lay in his cradle and watch his musical mobile go round and round and round it does not seem to bore him!! Absolutely loves that and kicks up the biggest storm (and good farties too, thank goodness!!)

beata - Hamish has a bottle after waking up from a nap (plus a nappy change), then goes down on his playmat. when he tires of that we try either the swing or bouncer, sometimes he goes from one to the other. if he tires and bores of that then i get down on the floor with him and play. Recently we bought a u pillow and i have been propping him up in a sitting position with that and put his toys in front of him. he loves sitting up. if the dog comes near him he sits there and just cracks up laughing at her. he loves her at the moment!!! always smiling and laughing at her. if she is anywhere near him he just watches her until she is no longer in his sight. we try tummy time but he just rolls over to his back now so that defeats the purpose a bit!! still not rolling from his back to his tummy but i think everything else around is much more exciting then doing that!! he is very close to being able to sit up by himself tho. in the next month we have to go get a highchair for him. finding it more difficult now to feed him his solids while he is sitting on my lap.
we arent worrying about the toy sale. my aunty has a jolly jumper for us i just have to get it from her. as for other toys, Hamish has enough at the moment. besides he really only likes a couple of them
Hey Teresa, did I miss your post about Hamish getting his first tooth ???? Oooh, sorry if I did, but hey that's great hun!!! Was he grizzly???? I've heard some babies cruize through the teething stage and it's really painful for some. I keep checking Cam's gums for any suspicious bumps.....
I ended up buying this 'sit me up Elmo thing' it's basically two inflatable half circles that you can either tie together to make a ring for bub to lie in or stack them up so it supports the baby's back when sitting up. So far I've chucked him in the ring and he lasted 3 minutes in it. I'll try to sit him up and put some toys in front of him. How funny about the toys? I've bought heaps and he got heaps as pressies, but he only has about two or three of his faves!
Re the high chair, I've read somewhere that you need one when baby starts solids. Something about baby being totally upright when taking in solid food
Sounds like Hamish is going great guns, good on you hun!! Love the comments about your doggie, must be very entertaining for Hamish! Should I maybe get a puppy/kitten???? ha ha
lol beata - he definately loves the dog. as for teething he was a little grizzly but not too bad. nothing bonjella on his gums didnt fix!! great stuff!! he does sit upright on my lap so its not too bad
I haven't posted in ages because we moved to Canberra 3 weeks ago, but only moved into our new house a week ago. Luckily my Mum was here to help unpack most things, but I still have a bit to go and she left yesterday - and will be going overseas for 3 months as of next week
Beata - we don't really have a routine of activities because we have been in the middle of moving. But when Angus wakes up I feed him if he is due for a feed (3 hours since the last one) or if he isn't showing any signs of being hungry, I just change his nappy and let him stretch on his mat. After I feed him, I put him on his mat - he was a play gym and another larger foam mat or his bouncer- and he entertains himself for about an hour or two. When he gets cranky it is usually because he is tired and so I give him a top up and he goes to sleep for about an hour. I used to put him in his hammock for day sleeps, but he is getting really close to rolling, so I will start bringing his bassinet out. As for stimulating him, I used to be really worried about this, but he is quite happy with just a mirror his play gym. We have also been shopping quite alot lately and he enjoys being in his pram and looking around. He's out of the bassinet now,although I usually have him facing me - otherwise I miss him!
Rooey - We'll probably get a jumparoo too. Dh was really kken on the jolly jumper and we tried him in one at the baby show after lying about his age and making him amonth older! I think th jumparroo would be better though.
Teresa - lol about the dog - how cute. My Mum bought that bonjella as she is convinced Angus is teething, although I am convinced it is a little while off! Good luck with it..
Misssawah - Angus is the same at trying to move around. He is quite good at spinning in a circle and can move himself around the mat, but only with his legs. He just hasn't worked out to use his arms yet.
We start gymbaroo classes next week. They go for 45 minutes and it is just next to where DH works, so we can have lunch with him before we go.
Does anyone else still do the wrapping? Angus used to unravel himself pretty quickly and kick all his blankets off, so I got some sleeping bags. The only thing is, as soon as we put him down, he wakes up because his arms are free.
