It ended up with Jackson gaining 230g for the week so the nurse is happy and no more hospital admission talk!
Lleyton gained 360g for the week.
Both boys are starting to get a sleep pattern going and Jackson and Lleyton both settle well now after a horror of a week last week.

Bern: My little girl has the hormone rash. Poor thing looks like a teenager with red spots and pimples everywhere. I've not been treating them with anything other then a warm face washer each morning and night to keep her skin clean.
MrsS: Congrats on two weight gains and no more hospital talk. It must be a relief for you.
BBB: I too have considered a dummy for my little girl. I hate them and had no need for one with DS, but DD is looking more for the comfort of the nipple, and there is only so much I can do with a babe attached to my nipple. Let me know how you go with the nipple confusion thing, because that has been my concern also.
KimB: How nice is it to fit into your pre-pregnancy clothing? I'm over the moon that I've come out of this pregnancy 7kgs lighter then when I started. I'm working hard now on losing the remaining 17kgs that has been hanging around since my first pregnancy. I think the breastfeeding is definetly helping.
AFM, my little girl is a definite tummy sleeper, and I'm in two frames of mind about letting her sleep all night on her tummy. When is it safe to let her stay on her tummy? She can lift and turn her head already, but she has a tendancy to chuck up her milk and I am worried about her laying in it.
We are going to get her hands and feet cast this week. Has anyone else had this done?

FarmGirl: the dummy worked to finally get him to sleep on Monday when he was overtired and overstimulated after a really messed up Sunday night. He sucked on it for about 10min and then spat it out and went to sleep, so it helped to break a bad sleep cycle. However he hasn't really fallen in love with it, most times he spits it out within minutes, now I only give it to him if he's unsettled AND sucking his hand, AND I know he's fed, then I am sure its just a comfort thing. It seems to comfort him when he's got some nasty bowel movements.

Bern - re hormone rash - yes my lil guy has it in a big way! Getting lots of photos for when he is a self-conscious teen, lol. I am putting nothing on it either, it will go away in a week or so and he will be back to looking perfect
Farmgirl - the age recommended for tummy sleep is when bubs can roll over. It is hard to decide as a parent though, weighing the risks versus the benefit, that is purely your choice! We have a movement monitor, so maybe get one of those. That way if anything happens, you will be aware of it straight away.

Chloe has been upchucking a couple of feeds, but i think my flow is too fast for her and she gets too much. hope it regulates soon. does anyone take bubs to the mchn? how do i go about getting in to one etc? was going to just take her to gp for weigh ins etc, as i dont have much "faith" in the mchn we had for tianna, as she never picked up that she has hip dysplasia, our gp picked it up at her 8 week vaccinations. so think i may just stick to him for everything.

Bern - Henry had the milk rash around his neck & underarms from about 2 weeks old. It cleared up after a week or so. have noticed it has reappeared around his neck & back of head in the last few days. I didn't treat it with anything, but my mchn suggested Curash powder under his arms and around the folds in his neck & to make sure these areas are completely dry after bathing as moisture can aggravate the rash.
FarmGirl - I'd be a little nervy about leaving bubs on her tummy. Hope she can find a way to enjoy sleeping on her back.
MrsS: Fantastic news about the boys finally settling down.
BBB: I gave Henry a dummy from 3 weeks. He usually spits it out after falling asleep & I won't give it to him other than when he needs to sleep. He sucks his fingers when he gets overtired & I figured it's easier to take a dummy away than his fingers. No sign of nipple confusion - he feeds really well and has gained over 1 kg in 3 weeks...BTW - a midwife recommended the Nuk brand for dummies & bottle teats so that's what I'm using.
KimB: Yay for fitting into your pre-pregnancy clothing! I'm finding that breastfeeding is helping me back to pre-pregnancy size too.
KellyD - OMG, your life must be complete chaos! Hope all your doc appts go well and the boys start to settle soon.

AFM - Got my 6 week follow up with the ob/gyn tomorrow. Everything is going really well, Henry is really quite a settled bub. The worst I get from him is a couple of minutes of screeching after a feed if he has a pain. He is getting better at burping which helps & he is smiling and gurgling a lot.

finally got the chance to post in this thread! Brady arrived 3/5/11 at 7:38pm after an almost whole-day affair. I will do my birth story soon.
Have finally had a day with B sleeping in his bed. He'd been in a bit of a pattern with an arvo sleep from lunchtime, but last week was a horror with screaming and sleeping in my arms. So after a solid 6 hours from midnight to 6am (woooooohooooo!) last night, we have had an hour this morning andI think he's just waking up after almost 3 hours!!
Like a few of you, I've also had some bad upchucking, so much so that I have taken him to the dr (possibly more paranoid as he was in SCN for two days with tummy probs) and even though he chucks numerous times between feeds and sometimes quite a lot, he put on 700g in two weeks so as of last Thursday he was 4.2kg. Dr suggested a thickener, but since he's not losing weight, I'm not too worried about it, he's obviously getting enough to eat. I have thought of expressing and if he keeps up the sleeping not in my arms I may be able to do so, which might help him not be so full? For those who do or have frozen EBM, what do you use for the freezer? I don't know if my bottles can go in the freezer?

Babybellburton - I spoke to a mw in hospital who in all her years has never seen dummies causing nipple confusion. I believe this cos #1 milk doesnt come out of a dummy, #2 there is no comparison with a soft warm nipple that smells like mum to a firm round plastic device, and #3 how does a dummy differ to a thumb or finger that they suck in the womb? My sil was advised to give her premmie a dummy to promote sucking so there you go! Dont feel bad at all, whatever works sweetie.
Kim I am jealous. As you know I put on 20kgs this time round and have lost 12 but am in this awful in between size where nothing fits.
I am still not sure bout the reflux issue but will take your advice and avoid lying him down after a meal.

KellyD - LOL about abc - my new life saver! I feel awful as well and promise myself that as soon as River is older and doesnt need to be carried all day, I will do lots of awesome stuff with DS. Having said that, he has had three and half years of me and in just a short year away he will have his very own play mate.
Afm - still have an unsettled bub. I am just hanging in there, reminding myself to breath and eat and drink water. I feel a little cheated that i missed out on the content bub but I guess those are the breaks huh? I find it particularly hard when ds#1 is whineing too, I get cross at him. They both have colds at the mo so not happy and I have found myself jumping off the verge of tears! Meh. On a positive note River is about 5 kg, which is 1.5 kg above leaving hosp weight

Farmgirl - We had L's hands & feet cast at 9 days old lol. They are now hanging in her bedroom. SIDS don't recommed tummy sleeping because of the rick of them not being able to move their heads for breathing. Maybe try laying her on her side? I used to do that for my first two and alter the sides so they didn't get flat head.
Bern - L up chucks as well. Usually first thing in the morning when my supply is plentiful. My lactation consultant (and mother & baby clinic nurse) said to just lie back a little so the flow isn't so fast. It makes bub work for it more and slows your flow it right down. What is MCHN?
Mellybelly - You can get special sterilized "milk bags" for the freezer. They are made by "Kaneson" and come in a pack of 10 with stickers so you can record the date you expressed and also how many mills. They hold 200mls each. You get them from chemists but it's a bit hit and miss as to who stocks them. I get my MIL to get mine from her pharmacy. i don't know how much they cost though. Also you can get at Big W little food tubs that you can use fo EBM. They hold about 70mls each. They are in the "baby" section where all the sterilizers etc... are. They are sterilizer safe as well and can be re used later for baby food.
Dragonbub - Yes these are the toughest days but sometimes I just have to get out of the house. Having vertually no friends and no family close it's all feeling so isolated. If you need a little cry then you have a cry. Your not superwoman who can leap tall buildings in a sigle bound lol. L is having a weigh in today but she is out of her 0000 and into her 000. They are just a little bit big for her but her 0000 are just a little snug now.
MrsS - Yay to bubs putting on weight. That's great for no more hospital!
I can't go back to see all the other posts and I wanted to reply to them. But hoping all is ok and bubs are doing well.

Just a quickie, only got 2 hours sleep last night with the boys tag teaming who was going to be unsettled. They are finally asleep now and I managed to grab a shower while DH has taken DD to do the grocery shopping.....
BBB: I give Liam a dummy as when he was breast feeding he wanted to use me as his pacifier to put him to sleep so opted for the dummy option. Although I have bought 3 different types of dummies for him to see which he prefers and today it is the "cherry" type dummy.
Seems like there are a lot of chucky babies in this group, Liam is a notorious chucker - so much so that it even comes out his nose - we tried the thickener earlier this week and it took him so long to feed so stopped it but he has been spewing even more now so we have gone back to the thickener today to see how he goes.
Last night I packed up all the boys 0000 all in one suits as they are now too long for them to be comfortable but they can still wear 0000 clothes that don't have feet in them as they are long and skinny so still plenty of room width ways. Weigh in for the boys this afternoon so will be intersting to see how much weight they have gained, at last weeks weigh in they had both put on over 400grams in 8 days. Oh, also had both boys at Chiro to help with a colicky Liam, last week Liam's tailbone was out of alignment and Rhys has a slipped cranial plate so they were fixed up. This week is was then found that Liam's shoulder was slightly dislocated and had to be put back into place although he is still in pain so need to go back and see them again.
we have a chucker too lleyton is really bad i have to change his bed 4 times or more a day, just got back from the health nurse and bad weigh ins this time in 3 days we have a 20g gain for jackson and 30 for lleyton. Both my boys now have dummies too they seem to really like the avent ones although i swore by nuk with dd2, i have all 4 home today and all the older 2 are doing is fighting! Still need to update that list!

heyy girls i'm on my phone so sorry if there's mistakes. Brady chucks out his nose too which freals my sister out cos her ds doesn't do it. Lol. I have resorted to lining the bed with doubled up flat nappies, saving the need to change the whole bedding everytime he chucks. I do think that he's calming down now though. For a while it was 3 or 4 times between feeds and they were only 2hrs apart.
I have to go back to the chiro now that my cs wound is mostly healed amd i should be able to lay on my stomach and have been thinking about getting b checled out. Just need to see if dh will be open to it.
Sorry i can'y remember who said what but for those woth chucky bubs, mw at hospy suggested angling the bed and we put the brakes on the bassinet and put phone books under the head end.
One question does anyone's bub lay peacefully in their bed or wherever then all of a sudden start crying like they're in pain, then settle and go back to sleep?
Ok gonna see if i can put him down and do some dishes!

Kelly - you poor thing! Do you have other family support who can help out? I hear Red Cross have volunteers that come and give you a hand and a break.
MrsS - glad to hear the boys are gaining weight
Mellybelly - yeah River does that but it sounds different to his other cries. Probably having bad dreams which is a bit scary, what could be so bad? Reliving the birth?
afm - River is more settled today thank goodness. Still cant put him down though and cos of his cold he slept on me last night. I try each day to put him down esp when he is fast asleep but to no avail! Oh well i guess i cant carry him forever. i also have booked him in to the chiro. I did this with C and found he slept alot better afterwards. Last night he went absolutely mental and i just couldnt console him. then he let out this massive fart and fell limp in my arms and went to sleep! He is such a windy bub and gulps heaps of air when he feeds. I might go to the local breastfeeding group and see the LC there. I think part of the problem is my letdown and the other is he wants to feed when he has a sore tummy but fusses heaps and swallows lots of air. Thus creating more sore tummy! bleh.

To those of you who have unsettled bubs, I find that stomach calm by brauer has helped Bree to settle, it works exceptionally well for night time. The first night, Bree went from 4 hourly night feeding to 5.5 hours, second night 6 hourly and last night she slept from 11pm until 6am.
Doc also sent us to a speach pathologist who also deals with infants feeding problems. She suggested getting a cherry shaped dummy and pulling on the dummy to help strengthen her sucking action as she fusses at the bottle occasionally breaking suction, taking in air, choking etc She has even stopped breathing momentarily at times which is scary. "37 weekers are crappy feeders" those are the words told to me today. They need support under the chin, as the chin sits back slightly further than normal.
Bree has some degree of reflux. She has vomited whole feeds at times. Someone mentioned screaming in their sleep. Bree doesn't do it often but she has been known to be sound asleep and start screaming blue murder for about 10 seconds (still with her eyes closed) and then she goes straight back to sleeping calmly. She doesn't seem to have too much trouble burping after a feed, but she does do a lot of pop off's too.
Oops, she's calling out again, gotta go!
