I think I am going to go with BG & Vic with the Baby Love Ezy Combo - just did some research online and they have one more safety star than the Maxi Rider & the Hipod and are well priced (Baby Bunting sell them here for $259).
Lovely, your opinions helped me know what to look for :) Think I will get one this weekend :)
Bella our car seat when Bailz was a baby was pretty mid range, however its been fantastic and I'd have no problem putting our new baby in it. I have however decided to buy the capsule attachment that fits our current pram for use in the first few months as I could never transfer Bailey from pram to car and vice versa without waking him, this way I can just click it out of the car and into the pram :)
*sigh* Well it looks like our three day potty training is going longer than three days. Today was day three and we had some minor success so I guess I'll probably keep trying tomorrow even though it's just me with the kids alone with hubby back at work.
Day 1 we had 11 accidents and pretty much zero successes (a couple of times a drop came out into the toilet after an accident so we let him think he'd done a little).
Day 2 we had maybe 8-9 accidents, but basically no successes, but DS was at least telling us "oh no" when he would start to go, and his need-to-wee signs became more obvious (but seconds before going so we still couldn't get him to the toilet on time).
Day 3 we've only had 3 accidents (plus overnight) and we actually had one success. A couple of times when he thought he needed to go (including the time he actually went) he would say "toilet!" and run to the toilet. Most trips resulted in nothing though. He's now starting to not want to go to the toilet at all though and getting frustrated with us constantly asking him to tell us if he needs to go.
I honestly didn't think it would be this tough. I'm totally exhausted and should be in bed, but I have a bunch of work that I need to get done, and with being DS's shadow every second of the day I get no time to do anything else. You don't want to see the state of the house! The only thing getting done is the washing because I am constantly needing to wash DS's underwear and the towels I am using for cleanups. But even that is only getting folded and not put away. It's all living on the end of my lounge suite at the moment.
Here's hoping that tomorrow brings me extra strength and that something "clicks" magically with DS or I am going to give up and just try again in 4-6 weeks (cutting it close to bub being born though...).
Hugs Krystie, it is hard work. Maybe go back and re read and see if there is something u have forgotten to do? For me I can only think that perhaps not asking him is one of the points, just reminding him to keep his jocks dry? Regardless of that tho I think that u should just do what works for you. If kyson isn't ready, he isn't ready. Don't feel bad if u have to wait and try again. That is just what u need to do if he doesn't get it tomorrow for ur own sanity! I TT mima at 10 weeks preg so I remember how exhausting it was. She only just got it on the third day. Maybe will miraculously get it tomorrow. Fingers crossed!
Krystie definitely do NOT feel horrid. Boys on average take longer to become ready. You sound like you're doing all the right things. You've got him in jocks all the time haven't you? He's certainly progressing, just look at the accident rates between day 1 and day 3.
Personally, I'd give it 7 days and if the whizz is not under control, I'd let it be for a while. Are you using a sticker chart at all? We put stickers on the kids toilet seat itself. It kept the reward confined to the toilet where the good behaviour (for want of a better word) happened. I found the kids got confused if we took the stickers out to the kitchen etc.... it was harder for them to comprehend what they were being praised for.
DS was 3 years old before he was trained. He was just ready even though I was in no hurry to train him. These boys can be tricky little boogers and I find that it's harder for them to know that they are wet.
Good luck with it! I hope he picks it up today out of nowhere and surprises you. If not, there's plenty of time (I trained DS when DD was 7/8 months old - easier than having a newborn, but still with it's own difficulties).
Thanks for the support girls. Gosh it's hard work! I think just having to be constantly vigilant all the time is hard physically and emotionally, and then when you still don't get him to the toilet before an accident it's sould crushing, lol.
Bella, we're pretty much doing it all by the book. We try to avoid asking him if he actually needs o go to the toilet, and just tell him that he needs to keep his jocks dry, praise him constantly for dry jocks, and let him know to tell us if he needs to go to the toilet.
Nicky, yup, jocks 24/7 :) We haven't been using a sticker chart, just giving him some treats when he has some success. The hard part is that he rarely gets any treat because he's just not having much success.
This morning I was waiting and waiting for his morning wee which he seems to be able to hold in an extraordinary amount of time. We'd run to the toilet a number of times, but nothing. Then we were standing near the kitchen table and the flood gates opened. No warning this time, it just started coming and he gave a little "oof" noise. We ran to the toilet but by the time we got there he was done and there was a trail of very wet footprints on the carpet all the way through the living room. I asked him if he'd like to keep trying to finish on the toilet while I cleaned up and he happily stayed on the toilet.
So I'm out in the lounge room cleaning up the carpet feeling totally frustrated and at my wit's end. I was debating whether to just grab a nappy and be done with it. Then I go to get Kyson from the toilet and he's telling me "poo come out" which he's been saying quite a bit, but not actually doing. I just softly said "yes yes, it would be good if the poo came out". He just looked at me and said "poo come out". So I had a peek in the toilet and sure enough, poo had come out! The little monkey had actually pooped on the toilet while he was in there alone, lol! I made a huge song and dance about it and he was pretty pleased with himself. Then we called Daddy to tell him the good news too. I think Daddy may have been in a meeting at the time, so I'm sure that was a rather amusing phone call for anyone he had in his meeting hahaha.
Sooooo, we are continuing. We've had one more very little accident since then, and no successes though. He's starting to use the toilet as an excuse not to go to bed. I put him in the room for his nap and twice he came running out telling me "toilet", but no luck.
*chanting* come on, come on, wee can do it!*
we havent started with jamie and he just runs off to the toilet by himself and pulls his nappy off
Fingers crossed for you Krystie - I didn't follow the 3 day thing strictly - I always try and put myself in child's shoes and use that to decide what to do, and I figured that I would hate being watched every moment and would make me a nervous wreck and I would get irritated at being told to keep undies dry or did I need to go etc - so I didn't go with that aspect. We had success in 3 days but then some regression but always a steady improvement and CJ doesn't actually wee very often maybe only 6 times a day so wasn't too much of a clean up issue (she never had accident on carpet either only in living room which has hard floor which helped). I also couldn't do the whole stay at home thing and figured DD was smart enough to know difference and she was. So first we were successful at home (maybe in a week), then she had a phobia about using toilet outside home (so we used pull ups when out) which probably took more like 3 weeks to get over (but she stayed ok at home), and we have only recently tried the overnight thing and she is fine overnight too now, and has only recently consented to not wearing pull ups at daycare (so she went several months being fine at home but insisting on pull ups at daycare) - think this was because no one else was Toilet Training in her room (she is one of oldest in her room) but now they are and now she is fine at daycare too. I don't always wait for her to ask, because as an adult I don't always wait till I need to go, I always go before bed and before going out so she knows we always try in these situations too she says "We always go to the toilet before we go out" - very cute :-). If she goes, she goes and if not is no worry but normally she will go in both these situations.
The worst time is definitely before they have had many successes on the toilet/potty - even if he only gets number 2's not having to clean up a poo bum is cool if you ask me. I would just play it by ear and follow his lead if you want to stop and try again I don't think you necessarily need to wait the length of time the three day thing says. I think the more pregnant you are the harder it can be (a friend from MG whose DD is same age as Kyson and is due beginning of March is having a tough time with her DD despite her almost being TT'd - she now just wants to be a baby so says "no mummy I want to be a baby and wear a nappy". We started it when I was about 36 weeks or so but my mum was here and also as CJ was younger she so much wanted to be a 'big girl' whereas friends DD is like she knows she is a 'big girl' now and being a baby is more important.
Anyway sending dry floors and undies vibes from here.
Sounds like you are starting to make progress KL - I reckon its harder to get them to poo on the loo than wee (so many kids end up to scared to poo but wee quite happily) so perhaps Kyson is just learning it the other way round, I'm with the others, stick at it, it sounds like he is soooooooooooooo close
I agree with Vic, I too am sending dry floor and undie vibes too xxx
Lol, would you believe we had a second poop in the toilet this afternoon? Straight from his nap. He missed with the wizz though which was pooled on his mattress protector, oops. Only three accidents again today though (one being tiny) so that's not too bad. He wouldn't go before bed though so I'm assuming I'll have to change his linen before I go to bed tonight.
I know you are probably getting totally over it, but geeze he sounds so close KL
CJ mastered poo before wee, and did take a while to distinguish two sensations, she would say needed a wee when in fact needed a poo. Now is always during lunch :-(
Go Krystie! Sounds like you really are close! Go kyson!
Allira was also the master of the poos before the wees. LOL
I think he'll have it very soon. Fingers crossed for many a dry night for you!
Well unfortunately today we've admitted temporary toilet training failure. We gave it a good 5 and a half days, but we think Kyson is just not quite ready yet. Actually, we were probably beginning to admit defeat last night when we let him go to bed in a nappy. Then this morning he spent two hours walking on tippy toes holding his penis with me asking him every couple of minutes to tell him when he needed to go, and even sitting on the toilet about 5 times, only to have him release the flood gates on the lounge room carpet again. He seems to be able to feel when he needs to go (so holds his crotch etc), but doesn't know how to get that initial let down release on the toilet. Then once he's super close to going he's not able to hold it until we get to the toilet.
Even the couple of successes we've had have possibly just been coincidence. Like one of the poops was right after a nap when he was already on the toilet because he had just wet himself. And the one wee we got in the toilet was when he was in there because he said he wanted to poo...
It's a little disappointing that he hasn't managed to toilet train, but I'm not disappointed in him. He'll be ready when he's ready and physiologically he just doesn't seem to be quite there yet. After his accident I asked him if he wanted jocks or a nappy and he initially chose jocks, so I put them on him. But then he got a nappy and stood there with a pair of jocks in one hand and a nappy in the other going "jocks or nappy? jocks or nappy? jocks or nappy?", lol, it was quite cute. Then he said "jocks off, nappy on" and proceeded to take off his jocks, so I put his nappy on after that. The only time he's gotten upset was when he pooped in the nappy, but was fine after he was changed.
At least I have my final load of wee-wee towels in the washing machine for now!
KL - don't be disappointed, Kyson's time will come, I know it must be frustrating after plugging away for a few days but I think you are right, you've given it a red hot go so his readiness might be just a ways off :)
At least you'll get a break from all that extra washing ;)
Of course your not disappointed in him Krystie! As u shouldn't be. He will do it when he is ready. Sure it would have been nice to get him trained before the new baby arrives, but it isn't essential. Certainly no important enough to stress either you or him out about.
Whoops! I have to go!
That's a bugger, but you're totally right. He will learn it when he's ready. No rush :) These boys like to make us Mum's wait.... get ready for it for the rest of your life! haha
