He may surprise you and suddenly ask for jocks now you have put the idea in his head. I do think is easier when they have other little people about to 'copy', CJ's friend at daycare and MG has now CJ is using toilet at daycare she has decided she is too and TT'd just like that. Hence why often second children are easier. Your older boys are probably a bit too old for Kyson to see as equals that he wants to copy. Personally if he shows signs of wanting to do it again, I would go with it but keep in nappies overnight - it all depends on the child but for a while CJ seemed to be happy to try keep her nappy (or pull ups) dry but didn't like the pressure of no nappy.

Thanks girls. He asked to sit on the toilet this afternoon then decided to stay there a good 10-15 minutes, lol. He wanted privacy so I just kept going in to check on him (he was just singing away in there) and when I asked if he was finished he'd just tell me "more wee in the toilet". He didn't do anything in the end, but at least he's still not scared of the toilet or hate it.

I think I'll get him some of the pull-ups though. DH bought him a box of nappies, but I might just try to use those at night and see if he prefers the pull ups during the day. I've told him we'll get him some special "jocks" so hopefully he'll still think of them sort of as "big boy" jocks rather than a nappy. Oh, and today he told me "toilet mummy" and went to the toilet after he did wee in his nappy, so at least he is still understanding the connection between weeing and the toilet even though he is in a nappy. It might just make it a little easier when we give TT another go.

I forgot to tell you girls the funniest thing though. When he says "jocks" it sounds much more like something that would get censored if I write it in here. He seems to start it with a "c" and often miss the "s" on the end. Hilarious when he's talking about Daddy's "jocks" or even when he tells us his "jocks" are still clean ;)

Last night we were all lazing about the lounge room and DH farted, Bailey found this highly amusing and pounced on Sean and pulled his pants down to 'Find the popoff"
OMIGOD it was the funniest thing I have ever seen, Sean holding onto his pants for dear life while Bailey was determined to expose him and find the fart :rofl:

These little people are comedy gold!!

I've just organised for Allira to go to Day Care every Tuesday from 9am until 1pm for this term. She'll hopefully do it all year and I'll have Lachie dropped at the bus stop at 8am, then we'll head into town, I'll drop her off and either do some gym classes or a PT session, perhaps have an hour of ME time (WOW!!! ME TIME!!) and then grab the groceries before picking her up and then driving the fun drive back out to Lachie's Kinder to pick him up.
She's been in day care a few times before for short periods, mainly with her brother but the times without her brother it has taken her a fair while to settle in. She's such a chirpy, confident girl when she's around people she knows, but put her around new people and she gets very shy and clingy. I'm hoping that a stint in day care and then 3yo kinder from Term 2 will help her out. It can only benefit her.

Other than that, we've just had heaps of wedding stuff over the last few weeks for my sisters wedding. It's all over now so I can relax a little....... apart from the fact we just got a Lab puppy yesterday. The kids LOVE her to bits and she's been fantastic so far. Allira again.... a few freak out issues but the more time she spends with the pup the better she gets.

I just had the funniest conversation with Kyson. We had a bath together and when I got out and was drying myself he noticed for the first time that I'm a little different to him. The convo went something like this:

Kyson: Mummy, where's your penis?
Me: Mummy doesn't have a penis honey. Only boys have a penis, and Mummy is a girl.
Kyson: What's that? *pointing*
Me: That's Mummy's vagina
Kyson: Gina
Me: That's right
Kyson: Good boy saying 'vagina'
Me: *laughing* Yes, good boy saying 'vagina'

What a crack up. DH is sad he missed it.


In other news. I'm starting to fret as I've just filled out an enrollment for Kyson to start a toddler program at a Montessori school. We went down a couple of days ago and had a look and it was really nice. He used to go to a Montessori playgroup and he was doing really well in it and really enjoyed the activities. Then once Shayla was born I stopped taking him and I feel rather guilty that it's now been over a year since he had that sort of activity time and play. I'm a little ashamed to admit that one of the reasons I didn't put him back in was because the school I wanted to put him in has a parent-less program from 2 1/2 and I have shocking separation anxiety. The toddler program is once or twice a week for two hours without a parent present. I think he will be fine without me, but it's just going to be so hard for me to leave him! I know many of you have already had to do it with your own kids and each time I've read about your stories I've gotten that lump in my throat at the thought of having to do it myself one day. We've decided that with another bub coming it's going to be even harder for me to get the kids to a playgroup all together, so now is probably a good time to put Kyson in a program where he can go by himself for a short period of time. I'm still a little torn as to whether doing it just before the bub is born is a good or a bad idea, but I figure that if we do it afterwards it might be a few too many new things all at once. He can probably start in three weeks, so he'd have a couple of weeks in the program before the bub arrives. Then DH will be off work for a little while and will be able to help with drop-off and pick-up if needed.

E scoped Daddy out in the shower, and asked him, so he said about doodles - she already knows about her 'gina, so it has become an ongoing conversation. Daddy is a boy, so he has a doooooooooooodle. mummy is a girl and has a 'gina like me. granma is a girl - but she has a doodle hahahaha i'm so funny mummy

can't help but giggle at those convos!!

Bwahahahahaha KL - Bailz and I had a bath the other day and he was looking at my 'willy area' with a confused look, I told him Mummy had a vagina and Bailey had a willy and he seemed ok with that!! Speaking of funny genital convo's though, if Bailey is sick or something is sore, I will kiss it better. Today he said "My willy is sore, Mummy kiss better?" Bwahahahahaha, I blew it a kiss from across the room, rather inappropriate otherwise but gosh it made me laugh :D The innocence of kids!!
We are just getting over sickness, Bailz has had lovely green snot streaming from his nose for a few days and I've had a sinus infection, but planning on returning to work tomorrow if I get a good nights sleep and wake up feeling a bit better in the morning. We haven't been up to much lately, just starting to do a few things around the house before baby arrives, it seems I have lots to do, first thing is to put our shed up so we have some more storage as then I can clean out our spare room and set up a big boy room for Bailz. We will then use the existing nursery for the new baby. I have some great decorating ideas for his room and I know he'll love it so I'll involve him in decorating so he gets excited about it. He is enthralled with babies at the moment. My MOH just had her bubs late January and Bailz loves to give him a cuddle and watch him, so he understands a little bit about what his brother or sister will be like (we keep telling him they just sleep, poo and eat so he doesn't get too upset when they don't pop out and start playing with him straight away). One of my bridesmaids just had a BFN from a frozen IVF cycle and they have decided that its just too heartbreaking and expensive to go on, I am totally shattered for them. We'd talked about the possibility of both having babies this year and I know my friend is hurting :( Infertility frigin sucks man!!
Baileys speech keeps exploding, he is a regular chatterbox now, and even said the other day that his "mouth was busy" talking up a storm hahahahahaha He is really in love with Daddy at the moment too which makes me emotional as Sean nearly bursts with pride when Bailey shows such open affection to him, Daddy is truly his hero. Bailz gave him a round of applause just for coming home from work yesterday hehehehe. Its also handy too as it gives me a little bit of relax time!
Anyway, thought I better pop in, I rely in FB too much to see how you are all doing rather than popping in here properly

I have a question for you girls...

Is it common for kids this age to repeat the same thing over and over and over and over?

Kyson will repeat the same sentence again and again and generally only stop if I repeat it back to him exactly the same. So I can't even just agree with him, I have to repeat it. For example, today he was turning off the keyboard when he finished playing, then he told me "Good boy Kyson for turning off the piano. Good boy Kyson for turning off the piano. Good boy Kyson for turning off the piano. Good boy Kyson for turning off the piano. Good boy Kyson for turning off the piano." I could say something along the lines of "yes, you are a good boy", but it wouldn't stop him from saying it until I repeat back "yes, good boy Kyson for turning off the piano".

Or this evening he was looking at videos on my phone and watching one of Shayla laughing (it's his favorite :) ). He would say over and over "Watching Shayla laughing" and I tried to get him just to stop saying it by telling him "I know. But you only have to tell Mummy once" then he would say it again, so I would try to explain again that I heard him and understand so he doesn't need to tell me again. But again he'd repeat it until I parrot it back to him.

Please tell me this is normal? We already worry about the possibility of him being on the autistic spectrum because of him being in a higher risk group. Then seeing behaviours like this gets us more worried. We also see OCD sort of behaviours in him and just hope that it's normal toddler behaviour too!

DD1 does that all the time :) seems like normal toddler behavior to me :).

Yep, often they are looking for reassurance or confirmation of something and may not understand if you paraphrase - hence his need for you to repeat as he said it.

Bailey went through this stage only a few months ago - He would ask the same question over and over even though I felt I'd answered it. Two things worked - repeating it back to him followed by the answer or cheekily asking him the same question.... eg he forever would ask "Mumma, whatcha doing, Mumma, Whatcha doing, Mumma, Whatcha doing" etc etc even though I'd continually answer. Sometimes I'd repeat back to him "Bailey, What YOU doing?" a few times and we'd both laugh and he'd move on. I think its part of language development too, sounding out the words and sentences and getting some confirmation back that they are understood. I dont think you need to worry babe x

Sometimes we still have a little trouble working out what he is saying when he rattles it off to fast, so I've taught him to say it slowly. I'm really impressed with how patient he can be with us. The other day he rattled off something like "Daddy fis the bary ona pano?", so we asked him to slow down and tell us again. He gets this little bit of attitude in his voice and slowly tells us (as if we are stupid, which I guess he thought we were, lol) "Daddy. Fix. The. Batteries. On. The. Piano?". Hehe

Arrrggghhhh! I'm fuming! I figure it's best to vent to you girls before I send an sms I might regret later!

So my 15 year old step son is home sick from school today. He wanted to go in early to school to train today (they have access to the gym in the mornings) so he was getting ready to go around 5.30am. Then it got quiet so we thought that he had left as he catches a bus and then a train into the city. At 7am DH got up to get the other step son ready for school and found DSS15 laying on the couch. He had a migraine and felt a bit nauseous. He felt bad enough that once DSS12 was out of his room for the day, he went and lay in there rather than going out to his bungalow. He had a couple of panadol and some water and when I checked on him through the day his said his head felt better and he no longer felt nauseous, but he didn't want to eat anything and he had a mild fever. DH has him booked in to see the dr tomorrow. He's had some more panadol through the day too to keep the migraine at bay and also help with the fever.

Both DSS's were meant to be going to their Mum's tonight (usually go on Thursday's but she wanted them tonight instead). With DSS15 being ill we knew he would be staying here. Then around 4pm the Ex rocks up at the door with DSS12 just as I've put Shayla down for a nap. I figure DSS12 needs to pick up something, but they both come walking into the house. I had made it pretty clear a few months back that I didn't want her in the house anymore, although I didn't say it in as many words(I hate conflict!). She says she wants to see DSS15 which I figure in this case is fair enough. As she's walking to his room she tells me that she is feeling unwell too and has a migraine but it's nothing contagious. Ummmm, so they both come down with the exact same symptoms but it's just coincidence? They go into the bedroom and sit in there for 10 or so minutes. She then comes out talking about his fever, which I tell her I know about and he has just had some more panadol shortly before she arrived. Then she says he wants some toast, so I said that's fine, I will make him some, but he hasn't wanted to eat every other time I offered. Then she starts saying goodbye to DSS12 so I had to ask her what was happening with him tonight because until that moment I was under the impression that he was going with her. She said he was staying with us because she was ill. Ok, thanks for letting me know... So then I ask her about tomorrow night because that's the night they are usually with her, and because they are with her tonight does she want them tomorrow night if DSS15 is feeling better (which I mentioned I highly doubt). She then snapped back at me that well obviously she couldn't have them tomorrow night because she had already changed her shifts to have them tonight. I told her that's fine.

DSS12 then went to go toward his bedroom so I told him that if he needs his space I can ask DSS15 to move back out to his own room. Just so you know, the distance between where he was laying on his brothers bed compared to where his own bed is, is NO MORE than 3 metres. The ex then says (with attitude of course) "excuse me, he's sick!". I just said that I know that, but he has an intercom in his room and can call us if he needs us. She says "you need to think about what you are saying". Then DSS12 says he can stay out there instead, to which I reply that I'm not having a 12 year old sleep out in the bungalow (DSS12 is a scaredy cat and would last all of 5 minutes out there, or end up not sleeping all night and will be home from school tomorrow too). And she's going on about how "but you're happy to have a sick child out there?". I actually didn't back down for once and just told her that he will get the same level of care out there as in the house and it's something that Bobby and I will discuss between the two of us. She then stormed off to the door, let the screen door slam knowing full well Shayla had just gone to sleep in the front room, and left shaking her head.

I then grabbed the phone and called DH because I knew she would try to do the same thing the second she got in the car, and I wanted to get the first word in, lol. While telling him what happened he got a missed call from her (predictable much?!). I just wanted to make sure he agreed with me and would back me up, which he would. He then called her back and surprisingly she didn't mention what had happened or anything about sleeping arrangements. That extra bit of time might have actually made her see some sense *shock horror*. DH just let her know they have a dr appointment tomorrow. He said that if she had said anything he would have told her that if she is that concerned she can turn right around and come pick them both up.

Ok, so I'm still fuming, but feel better for writing it down. I'm still so darn close to sending her an sms though. I thinking of just writing "If you can't be respectful to me in my own home, you are no longer welcome to enter it." Oh, and for the record, DH and I NEVER enter her house while she just waltzes into ours.

I don't think u r over reacting either love. You have a right to respect in your own home.

Don't be fearful of saying something if you want to. She can't bite you. I think it is fair to set boundaries of how you expect to be treated.

Yeah I agree with the girls, you are not over reacting, its not too much to expect a bit of common courtesy in your own home

It seems pretty clear she is threatened by you KL and as you are more of a Mother to her boys than her, she is just trying to exert some authority over you, but bottom line is you are the head of your house, not her! Sounds like DH is well aware of the situation and her antics so no need to worry. She is not worth stressing over my love xxx

nope you are right he's 15 im pretty sure he will be ok like u said u have an intercom if he needs you i think u deserve a medal for just being a step parent ive seen how hard it can be with my own family :hug: being preg just doesnt help xoxoxo

and i got a job as a trainee dealer with full time training for 5 weeks i dont know how DH is gonna go with the kids but i guess we will see

Hi All

not a lot happening here. have really struggled recovering from being unwell late last year. GP said it appears i have a post-viral chronic fatigue flare - could take weeks, could take months. so i just have to put one foot in front of the other and hope it all works out ok each day.

we've been changing "stuff" at home - have made the study much more user friendly, and slowly culling stuff we don't need any more. it's slow going with me being so exhausted all the time, and with the almost 3yo helper - but we're getting there

E has a date for her hernia surgery at the end of this month. given the GP didn't think it was important enough even to consult with the surgeon, we really didn't think it would be a surgery that had to happen so soon. but it does. so i have to get brave and pretend it's not scaring the crap out of me for her sake. we keep talking to her about having an operation, and being a big girl. that the doctor will fix her, and she'll end up with a scar on her tummy. i hope we're doing the right thing!! i want her to be as prepared as possible... surgery is a week before easter, and work have given me the whole next week off to be with ehr - so i'll have all the time from before op through until the tuesday after easter off. which is pretty cool.

better go - she's starting to harrass DH about who knows what - but he's getting exasperated. i need to rescue someone from the other (just not sure who lol)
