Thanks Jan, I've been waking her every 2.5 hours of sleep and we got 7 feeds in 24hours yesturday which seemed to help her. I was counting from the end of the feed. I will start counting from the start of the feed. She seems to like to sleep alot and have larger feeds like 5 - 6 which means I have to comp more so this is better for the both of us it seems Does that mean your waking your DD to feed her on that schedule? I am pumping once a day to make sure I maintain my supply as in the evenings she seems very tired and might not be draining them properly. Least I will have a stash of BM this way. Providing we are in a quiet place with no distractions she just gets down to business now so BF is less of a strain, I can even doze a bit and she will just finish! It's like a different kid.

Oh BTW, in all the panic about the reflux I realised this morning that yestursday was the first 24hours with no bottle at all. She takes both sides now I wake her earlier and is content. WEW US!

Jan, If that nurse gives you crap just tell her to take a hike, seriously. If the MCHN did that to me when she came for her visit I would have just said well theres the door. People should not treat you like that in your own home imo.

Yeah she arches her back and screams when it flares up. Seems to be at it's worst in the afternoon, so I get as much sleep as I can in between the morning feeds as she dosen't seem bothered by it then. I'm using everything I can to get her to sleep because I know that as soon as she gets overtired like she has been its much much worse. (eg Saturday) Last night was alot better, still took her 45mins with the dummy to get to sleep but at least she slept and didnt scream the house down for hours. We called the Pead this morning and he is bumping our appointment to 3pm tomorrow, as I missed an opening at 9:30am this morning because we were all asleep Doh! But that is good. Hopefully he can give her something to ease her pain in the afternoons/evenings.

Hehe thanks Dan, no that is helpful its pretty much what we are doing, managing her symptoms.

CK, be sure to poke your husband awake when he is next having a nap as a thank you My husband does that stuff all the time, that's how I return the kindness LMAO

CK- yeah good idea, I think I'll write a list of things to ask my dr @ the 6 week checkup! There are a few people in my famit with bad peanut allergies and in general a few minor I tolerances (I can't eat gluten etc) so it worries me a little! Good advice!! Re your DH poking you- bah! Id have been so mad! It's like um, bad luck!

Lolpigs- ugh I know hey, I'm the same, my parents are so careful to make sure we get out space etc while settling in, and wait for us to invite them over etc.. But DHs family are the opposite. It's so frustrating hey... Sounds like we really have the same annoying in law issues!! They just have NO idea! I was thinking with Aubree, could it be anything youve eaten that might bother her? I'm not sure how common it is but my SiL couldn't eat onion or chocolate while BFding cos it gave her baby gas.. I've tried both and I haven't had any problems but it could be a similar thing with reflux?! Just a thought!

Re BFding I offer only one side each time cos she seems to fill up with just one side., it just means the other breast gets really sore just before feeding her next!

Violet does this thing where she throws her head back sometimes while feeding and still latched on.. Ouch!!

Personal question, but re the postpartum blood loss- has anyone else's not settled down yet? Mines still quite heavy 10 days after birth which is kinda annoying, it's slowing down but still heavy enough to need maternity pads!

xAmandax Im pretty careful what I eat, I think having the gestational diabetes has made me more aware what Im eating. With the PP bleeding, mine comes and goes, which the nurse said might happen if I have been doing to much.. Which I over did yesterday with vacuuming the house. If you are concerned though you should call your doc.

Lolpigs you sound like you have it all under control!

Well I had a little melt down last night... DH is going back to work tomorrow and Im worried that I wont cope because sometimes it feels like I cant setlle Aubree and at 4am this morning I cried myself to sleep because nothing I was doing was working...

Mollie, aww I know what you mean about anxieties over DH going back to work!! I'm already anxious about that too! With settling bubs, I know it's a small thing but I've started using Jurlique baby moisturizer which smells like lavender on Violets chest when she's hard to settle and it kinda helps- might be a coincidence but it can't hurt! I know what you mean though, we have a hard time settling Violet too and it drives you crazy sometimes wondering why nothing seems to work! I'm sure after your first day of him back at work you'll feel better! Thanks for the advice with the bleeding- I probably did overdo it yesterday as we popped out to some shops etc! I'll give my GP a call though in the next few days if it doesn't slow down any further!

Well following Jan's advice and in combination with waking Bubs early for feds yesturday seems to have done the trick, Bubs is now waking every 2-2.5 hours from the start of one fed to the next. Yay! Every BF Bubs is also content with just mum.

Levi settles for me during the day but won't at night. I get up feed him, change him and re-wrap, give settling a go then if it's nit worked (1 out of 4 anight work) them I'll get hubby up. He settles him in 15 mins max then comes back to bed. But then he's not up for the whole 45mins to hour.

Amumma I found changing Lilly before we start the feed means she settles much faster afterwards. Changing nappies seems to wake Lilly right up and it takes much longer to settle her afterwards. Also she hates lying down and being moved around so much with a fully belly. Lilly loves laying on my shoulder so becuase now we need to keep her upright 10mins after a feed, it just pop her there and burb her and pat her to sleep. Works almost every time because she is comfortable.

I also make sure I dont talk to her too much at night otherwise she thinks its awake time hehe. I am no expert but I hope that helps.

Mmmm, I change Alex in between boobs - wakes him up enough to take the second and he's usually asleep again before I lay him down, or pretty close to it. Strangely though, he hates being wrapped. Hates having his hands wrapped up and would grunt, wriggle and complain till he got them out so I gave up on wrapping...

Oh and he had his first time in the shower with me today. Mostly because he'd peed *everywhere* while I was changing him and I needed to clean him off, but he loved it. Was a bit cool for my liking to be safe for him, but he loved being cuddled with the warm water running over him

Yeah Lilly will only take wrapping when its cold, otherwise she is happy to have them out and will yank them out no matter what, so I just use a baby wedge and put the musiln over her legs.

Amanda I rekon I will try anything to help get Aubree settled! So I will get some of that moisturiser on our next outing.

And I might start waking her as well for feeds instead of letting her go and see if that changes anything....

Well we have had a better day, got all my christmas shopping done for the OUTLAWS... Im dreading Christmas this year, we have to drive to Mildura from Canberra with like a 6 week old baby! My MIL is an absolute tyrant! She annoys the poop out of me! So Im going to spend the week there biting my tounge and hoping that I dont murder her!

Mollie, oops I just realized I meant the food thing for lolpigs (I said Aubree but meant Lilly haha) and yeah the moisturizer could've just been a coincidence but it seems to help! The lavender helps sleep supposedly! Oh and the MIL thing- that completely sucks you have to drive such a long way with a tiny baby.. Poor you! Oh yeah don't even get me started in my MIL... Absolute nightmare.. Sounds like a few of us have pain in the a$$ MILs. Ugh. I still haven't called mine back after the stupid stupid comment she left in the voicemail the other day- I refuse!

I was feeding then changing. I'll swap and see how it goes.

Levi has to have his legs wrapped but struggles if his arms are.

lol Amanda I dont answer my phone when I see my MIL's number come up because I know she is going to give me some kind of stupid piece of advice, or make a comment that will really tick me off!!! Like when we told her that we were having a little girl, she told me that it was impossible because 'her' family dont have girls! BAH! I showed her!!!

Well we did the shower with mummy thing tonight.. She absolutely loved it <3 and so did mummy its so nice having some skin to skin time... After her shower I gave her a massage and then have my dinner and fed her on one boobie, changed and burped and then offered the other side.. She only fed from the other side for like 5 mins, but now she is settled and fingers crossed she will stay that way til next feed... Im not looking forward to tomorrow.. DH back to work, and they are predicting the temperature to be 30! Oh yay! NOT!

If I could share my MIL with you girls I would...I know I'm pretty lucky.

Hardly got anything done today - Alex was pretty unsettled and just wanted to feed a lot, but I got a couple of short naps in.

Naps are good, coles lemonade iceblocks are life savers in this hot weather.

Feeling cruddy tonight, my CS wound is all hot and sore all of a sudden and I started bleeding again, my OB sid not to worry unless I show signs of infection.. I am just bummed that I am back to feeling rubbish again. Only pain killers I had in the house were Endone from hospital so I took one. I hate how they make bubs sleepy sometimes however :S I ate all the panadol I had in the last 3 weeks becuase I didn't want to use the endone 2 packets I think.

HAHA Mollie sounds like my MIL, who said "we will acceppt anything sex wise" well dur of course you will you dont get a say in it... and who likes to always talk about about my weight post pre and during pregnancy. I neally slap her every time. Anytime they say "our baby" I say who's? I get silence in return, drives me up the wall. WOW your nicer than me going all that way with a newborn. I would be saying no heh, or telling them they can come to me.

My MIL living with DH father is not his birth mother so even worse :S They have a bad history. His birth mother is lovley (TYPICAL) but lives in QLD so I'm flying her down at Xmas for the weekend so she can spend time with Lilly monster.

Had a better reflux day today, had a few bouts of it, but nothing extreme, I think now that we know it makes it easier for us to manage for her.

Amanda, yeah I've heard about food affecting things too, although I have not changed my diet. I'm going to ask the Pead about it tomorrow and see but the fact it comes and goes dosent really point to anything specific food wise. The heat seems to aggravate it however which is weird.

Hooray for sleeping babies I will have to try the shower time soon sounds good Lilly loves bath time and kicks her leggies in the water alot we make the water quite deep for her so she can splash about hehe.

Hmm does anyone elses baby wake up and cry before BM? She isn't constipated, but she seems to freak out? This makes her really distressed and takes ages to calm her down again, which also flares up her reflux too I think.

Lolpigs - I'm glad I could help yes, I wake Jess for a feed. The theory is the more food they have during the day the better chance they will sleep longer at night. With DS I let him sleep and he would sleep for 4-5 hours straight during the day. Then at night he'd be up every hour or two at night. It went on for four months and it nearly killed me. I became a different person. I put him on a routine after reading Tracy Hogg's book and it worked for us. Jess will wake up for most feeds but the most I let it get to is 3.5 hr then I wake her up with a cuddle then she's screaming for the milk lol.

I thought Jess didn't like wrapping and had stopped. It didn't help keep her asleep. I'd noticed she would scare herself with the startle reflex and then she would wake up. I've changed the way I wrap her to wrap each arm individually so she can move them around and she is sleeping better.

Mollie - it is a tough day when DH goes back to work. I felt the same. Each day I become more confident and adapt better. Can you call someone to come over if you are finding it too exhausting? Or go to your mums place so you can nap? Even if you do it once a week it will help or even knowing the option is there.

Don't blame yourself if she isn't settling. It's normal for newborns to have unsettled periods. It doesn't reflect on your mummy skills. Same stuff happening here. I just take it as it comes. When it has been too long I pass her to DH to try to settle her.

AM it can take me 1.5 hours to settle miss J. Night times are worse than day time. For her it is gas that causes it.

Amanda glad to hear all is going well. DS has a nut allergy. He had mild eczema as a young baby. I had a feeling he might have an allergy. The first time I gave him eggs I just dipped some toast in a tiny bit of yolk. He had a nap shortly after then woke with a red rash all over his forehead. Had to avoid giving egg for a long time. The trend is then a possible nut allergy.

Didn't give him any until he had a bite if my muesli bar when he was 3. His lips swelled up straight away. I've got to get him tested again. A few weeks ago he had picked up a nut at my mums that he wasn't allergic to then he must've rubbed his eye. His eye then puffed up. It's always a good idea if you are worried about food allergies to introduce foods one at a time when doing solids. That way you know what caused it. Be careful of strawberries before 12 months too, can bring out severe allergies.

The lady at the clinic asked me how the BF went. I told her what happened in addition to DS being sIck and she agreed there was no point in continuing. Thank goodness I didn't get a lecture! Jess is now 4 kilo's so the formula is agreeing with her!!

Got some great tips for gas. She felt her tummy and it was full of gas as it was hard. Their tummies are supposed to be soft like ours. She showed how me to press firmly with my palm on her tummy. Then to move the gas from her right to left tummy by pressing and moving it along. It was very interesting! Will definitely give it a go tomorrow.

Jan glad the nurse was good about BF, I'm gonna dread our 6-8 week check up but I know my decision is best for us and our situation. Abby is like a different child, just so happy and content when awake and doesn't scream for hours like she is starving.
