I might give Alex a bit of nappy free time this evening as he's been in the ergo most of the day - out christmas shopping with the girls. He slept most of the time, woke up for a couple of feeds and a nappy change or two. I'm mastering the art of the alfresco feeding as the parents rooms at this particular shopping centre were ridiculous, inconveniently located when someone is screaming for a feed, and tiny/poorly laid out as well. Don't think I'll go back to that centre.
Amanda Its like you took the words right out of my mouth.. As for the vegetarian thing.. Im sure if your DH wanted meat then he could cook it himself.. My silly MIL didnt think I could cook, until she found out that I have a cert 3 in it.. Silly cow! I am dreading going down there.. She asked DH where Aubree is sleeping, and he said in her bassinet in our room, and then she asked if when we go down there will she be sleeping in the 28yr old cot that she has that looks like a cage! DH replies.. No. She must be mad if she thinks I will let MY DD sleep in a cot that probably has lead paint! crazy woman!
Lolpigs How are you and Lilly going with the feeding?
Jan I hope things are getting better for little Jess..
Aubree slept from 11pm - 5am last night.. I had to wake her up to feed because my boobies felt like they were going to explode. I had to pump one side and give her the other.. So if she does that again tonight I will start to build up a bit of a supply so that DH can do some feeds.
I think my DH is feeling a little bit left out. He was a little down this afternoon and when I asked him what was wrong he said that he was sad because Aubree doesnt settle for him.. So I think the sooner we can get some milk pumped and he can do some feeds the more involved he will feel. He changes her nappy and sings to her and reads books to her.. But when she is overtired all she wants is to be wrapped up and cuddle by me..
Any ideas what else I can get DH to do so he feels more involved?
we are sitll hit and miss now she is spitting put boob but taking bottle, but overnight she is fine... i told dad it was his fault. i am pumping here after her spitting out boob but then tsking 30ml from dad when she wouldnt settle. could my supply be dodgy during the day? well it is already dodgy lol, or perhaps i just have a little madam!
Mollie DD used to only settle for me till i just left DH a few times with her when she wouldnt settle. now he is confident settling her and she settles more for him. nappy change time dh talks to dd, sings changes clothes and chats with her, she loves it making coos and smiling and giggling.. all i get is crying for food when i change her
Levi is having a growth spurt. He's been having 2 boobs plus 50mls formula. He's never had that much lol. Boobs are making milk overtime lol. He is now mainly in 00. They really need an in between size, he's to big in the body and feet for 000 but not long enough for 00.
Wow, he's getting to be a big boy! Alex is still in most of his 0000 stuff although 000 fits him better depending on brand. We also have moved from newborn nappies to the next size up. Everyone keeps commenting on how long he is, I really need to get him measured again - it's making me curious!
We're off to hopefully finish the christmas shopping today, how has everyone else been?
Abby is in 0000 still but fits bonds 000 onesie's but there a small make. She is also quite long and loves stretching out, so much easier to cuddle/cradle her to sleep now.
Still can't get over how easy she is :). She loves the car, her bath from pretty much day one and at nappy change time she stares at the stick ons on the wall - some of you might remember me posting about the stick ons I put up a little while back.
We are working on a bit of a routine with her ATM will make it easy when DH goes back to work on Friday. Other then that she's feeding well and the formula seems to agree with her as she doesn't seem to suffer with any wind or belly aches.
Hope everyone else is going well!?
Mollie, GEEZ she actually thought youd use the ancient cot?! Uhh, no thanks!!!!! LOL why does she still have such an old cot laying around!? Yeah i bet your dreading it... ill be thinking of you!! My MIL is coming down for a while over Christmas and called the other day (i didnt answer again haha) and left a voicemail saying she hopes she will be seeing us Christmas Eve as that is when they arrive - Im SO going to go shopping or something instead, hehehe.. also, Christmas night is the night that they are doing their family thing, and i am not going to be going to that, (i still go to my grandma's for Christmas dinner and DH spends time with his family doing their thing) and i BET ill get some nasty comment about how im not letting them see Violet that night (shes clearly coming with me seeing as i need to BF) and ive already gotten comments from other members of his family cos i said im not going to the boxing day massive extended family thing they do which is a WHOLE day event and a long drive away and i just dont think its right dragging such a young baby to a massive family thing all day long... and i know theyd all be demanding to hold her, and it just would feel wrong so ive already told DH we wont be going.. im going to get such cr@p about it from his mum - she doesnt know yet! Yuck @ our MILs. SO annoying.
Mollie, with getting DH to feel more involved, does bubs enjoy bath time? Cos we have DH bath Violet cos she loves bathtime, haha and then he passes her to me to deal with the crying when she gets out of the bath and has to get dressed... she hates it! Anyway DH loves the bathing her part :) cos she always enjoys bathtime so its nice for him to bath her! Other than that, i know lots of babies love baby massages with baby massage oil? he might enjoy that? Violet doesnt like being undressed so we havent tried that yet!
Lolpigs, interesting about what you said about milk supply during the day, i certainly notice that i have MUCH more milk at night and in the morning, my boobs are so hard and sore, but i dont seem to have that problem during the day! So you might have less milk during the day! Not sure how that all works, but it certainly sounds like it could be the case!
AM, wow that levi is nearly in 00s! He must be a big healthy boy! I know what you mean about needing in between sizes! Depending on the brand, Violet is too long for 0000s but a lot of 000s are too big and she swims in them! I fidn the Bonds wondersuits the best, cos theyre stretchy!
CK, how did you know it was the right time to move up to the next nappy size? Violet keeps leaking out the back of the newborn ones, i wonder if thats cos theyre too small?! She is a big baby! Good on you braving the CHristmas shopping thing, im SO glad i did most of mine while i was pregnant and overdue!! DH and i did pop to the shops yesterday to do a bit of shopping for his family, and it was very overwhelming! I kept bashing the pram wheels into stuff!
Danni, YAY at how happy Abby is! Thats awesome! SO good about no wind / tummy aches too! Heh, i still havent ordered the wall decals we were planning on getting yet, but Violet seems happy staring at all the colourful little dresses in her wardrobe for the moment, heheh. FUnny little thing :P
DH went back to work today... it feels kinda weird without him here! Ive got to go to the post office and pick up an online shopping order but i feel a bit anxious venturing out of the house with Violet on my own for the first time!! Anyone else felt that way?
OOH and also, anyone getting their bubs something special for their first Christmas? I want to get Violet something significant (looked at some cute silver / gold baby bangles that i wanted to buy and get engraved with Violets First Christmas but havent found anything i really like) - anyone have any ideas? Other than that i think ill get her some cute little outfits when i go out to finish my shopping next week!
Levi is 5.3kg now and 58cms long.
I find my milk is at it's lowest at 8pm. I've had to top him up with formula.
I can't believe he's a month old on the 16th.
Yeah my supply seems lower than normal around now. Lilly just woke for a feed and both sides she just nibbled for 15mins, there wasnt much flow. Hope next feed will be better or I'll have to pump blegh.
However most other feeds she will drink for a good 5-10mins before it claps out LOL
Can't believe she took 90ml of formula plus both boobs the other feed, she seemed super hungry, she did spend 20mins farting so perhaps she cleared heaps of room?
She is out of tiny Newborn cloth nappies now and into her Little Britches Pockets and things on the lowest size now. I love the cloth nappies. Her sizes still vary becuase of make, shes still a 0000 in Pumpkin Patch but in other brands like Osh Kosh (was a present they are blegh quality for the price!) she is a 000. 000 aren't so large on her now however she is getting htere.
OMG she is so heavy now, sometimes at night lifting her to BF is a struggle!
/hugs for those still dealing with MIL they are :wall: Our step MIL is still deciding if she will grace us with her presence on Sunday.. :wall:
Amanda my husband collects coins so bought Lilly a 99.9% minted silver coin in the year of the rabbit, which is her year :) It is lovley has artist color painting on it as well. We are waiting for it to arrive. My mother also got her a stamp from China on her last trip that has her surname on it. Apparently in China unless a signature is accompanied by your personal stamp it isn't valid. So interesting and different :)
I've bought some stuff and I'm going to make casts of her hands and feet this week, and give one to my mother for christmas in a shadow box. Just waiting for all the stuff to arrive. Decided to do it myself rather than have it done professionally. I bought everything I needed for $180 for 2 (framed) when to have it done professionally it is like 1 for $280
Most of the time sucking settles Lilly, weather that be me, a dummy, dads finger.. it really calms her espeically if she is having trouble getting to sleep. She is alot harder to settle during the day because she has turned into the worlds biggest sticky beak! She activley fights sleep during the day :S We are still having quite a few troubles with gas. I'm going to talk to the MCHN on Thursday when we see her to see if she can suggest anything.
Having less milk in the evenings is natural - the hormones that produce milk work best overnight, so the more they suckle in the evenings, the more milk you'll produce the next day. Alex is gradually moving away from his extended cluster feed in the evenings, which is good because by the time he was finished I was so tired and worn out. He still feeds a lot before bed, but not to the extent he was.
I moved Alex into the next size up for nappies because he's wide around the middle (especially after a feed ) and even with the tabs as far apart as possible he would wind up with digging in marks on his belly and it'd also leak a fair bit. The next size does 4-8kg so should do for a fair while. He has a quirk where he hates pooing in a wet nappy - insists on being changed only to let rip with a huge poo barely 5 mins later and need to be changed again. I might start looking into cloth nappies to see if I like them soon.
Amanda, going out on your own with bub for the first time is daunting, but not as hard as people make out :) It also gets easier once you get that first one out of the way - I started with short trips to places not all that far away, like the local shops and so on and took it from there.
Well, little Mister is asleep and I think I might go join him - shopping is exhausting!
Yep thats what the LC told me too, except I dont get more milk the next day and bubs is always still super hungry after every feed, and even after hours at the boob in the evenings :( ( I tried to go no comps for about 5 days and all I got was screaming hungry bubs and no milk increase) Faulty boobs ftl
I am making more milk now she is suckling better but still no where near enough to keep up with what she is asking for. I figured out the bottle issue too, the ABM was too cold. Bubs likes it toasty warm, have no issues now heh
Ahhhh, a particular little madam hmmmm?
Indeed. I have a fussy one hehe :)
Does anyone elses bub still fall asleep while still hungry? Lilly is still doing this, sometimes taking up to an hour and a half to feed, becuase I have to keep putting her down and letting her wake up again before she will keep eating.
It is a funny behaviour she has been doing since birth.
I'm so sorry to again put another DH rant up here but I'm SO mad. So one might a week DH has boys night and I have some girl friends around.. My friends stay till about 10ish but DH always stays out till like, 1or 2am which I told him I wasn't comfortable with now we have a baby and I asked that from. Ow on he be home at 10:30 / 11ish OR have boys night at our place on our pool table room out the back. The pool table room already had a 42 inch flat screen tv out there, but DH said that to start having boys nights out there, cos they play playstation etc all night then he needed a bigger 50 something inch full high definition tv instead (yeah like I'm sure there's SUCH a difference, ugh) so he convincede to tel him spend a huge amount of our money to buy this new TV so he could start doing boys nights out there, which I reluctantly agreed to (finances are tight seeing as we are going to be reduced to one income for a while) and this morning he tells me this next boys night will be at his brothers - I was like, um didn't you say you'd be doung them at our place from now on? He's like, no, I said we could do SOME at our place! I was like, well you clearly mislead me to think it be every night as a way of justifying spending a whole lot of our money on something so unnecessary as a tv upgrade, and he has the nerve to tell me that it MY fault for not asking him if he meant every night or just some nights- I was like, well I trusted you that you'd tell me the truth! Considering when he was trying to convince me to buy this tv, he sold me the story by saying boys nights would be at our place from now on.. So, he's gone off to work now after calling me a piece of $hit and storming out of the house. SO mad, I feel so betrayed. He is the one whol handles all our finances too, and I trust him with my money to do what needs to be done, hes totally broken my trust now... Ugh sorry to have yet another rant about DH but I'm so mad. We don't have spare money just laying around, especially seeing as HE crashed my car recently and we needed to scrape money together to buy a new car! I'm not just being hormonally emotional am I?!
Ha lolpigs, violet does that- she falls asleep after 5 or 10 mins BFding and I have I go change her nappy to wake her up to feed some more.. If I put her to bed when she falls asleep the first time, she wakes up really quick cos she's still hungry! I reckon it's a newborn thing, and hopefully as they get older they don't fall asleep so often!
She also cries lots just before dirtying her nappy- is that normal?! Like it hurts her tummy right before she goes to the toilet! Poor thing!
CK aw thank you, Ill try a really little outing today :) did you get the rest of your Christmas shopping done in the end? :)
No, I don't think you're being hormonally emotional, but I do think you guys need to seek out some counselling or something. The way he is treating you is very disrespectful and bordering on abusive. I'm sorry hun, but I am concerned for you when you describe the way he treats you sometimes.
Alex wriggles around, pulls faces and grunts a lot before a big poo - like he doesn't like the sensation. Quite normal, sometimes he'll cry but not often. Come to think of it, I don't like the sensation of doing a poo either, so I can't blame him. Maybe Violet is just expressing her dislike? If it sounds like an ouchie cry (high pitched, knees being drawn up etc) maybe get your GP's advice?
Christmas shopping is about 90% done, have a few more to get and some cooking (nougat, fudge and shortbread) to do. Hopefully I can get it all done this week but we're having a quieter day today.
Btw, anybody else hate clipping those sharp little fingernails?
Thanks CK :) I definitely am planning on doing the counseling thing- I'm going to approach it by saying I feel it'd be a good idea in general now that things have changed in our lives etc, rather than from a viewpoint of him treatin me badly, cos I'm sure he wouldn't agree to it otherwise. It's rediculous, we used to fight a fair bit when we were first married, but it had gotten a lot better and almost stopped alltogether, I'm so mad it seems to have started again..! I have a feeling he has a slight disrespect towards women in general cos his mum (the MIL I keep complaining about) is a bit of a nutcase and I think maybe it has something to do with it. Councelling really is the only option I think.. For violets sake just as much as mine, I don't want her growing up with arguments etc in the house. Uhh it's so frustrating. He just can't admit he may have done something that was wrong! He can't seem to ever, ever apologise. He just tries to spin it around so it looks like its my fault!!
Ohh yeah, it's not really a pain type of cry, more a frustrated type cry! Must be like Alex, they just don't like the yucky feeling! Aww. Thank you, that's good to know!
Ohh good on you getting most of your Christmas shopping finished! With the cooking, hope Alex gives you a few hours sleepy time where you can get it done! Violet really doesn't like sleeping during the day!
Alright.. Slack much! I am finding it so hard to get things done during the day as Aubree is fighting sleep.. So Im going to try and get this big post done because it has been building up for a couple of days now lol
Amanda - I had a good chat with my mum about my MIL and I have decided that Im just going to ignore her silly comments and go and spend time with DH's grandparents, as they are the main reason we are going down there because they are all in their late 80's and cant travel up here as its a long trip... Now.. firstly  I hope that you and your DH can sort things out. I was thinking last night, is it possible that he could be a little jealous of Violet? Now that you are devoting most of your time to her, he might feel a little neglected by you? Im not saying that you are, and Im not condoning his behaviour what so ever (he needs a good kick in the pants) but maybe the transition to parenthood hasnt been as easy..... I hope the counselling works and that you can smooth things out with him... P.S DH had a bath with Aubree last night.. Cutest thing ever, and then she even let him rub sorbelene into her skin :)
CK Trying to cut Aubree's nails is like trying to get blood from a stone! Its so hard!
Lolpigs How is your little madam!? Maybe now that she is sucking better your milk supply will start to build.. This is a long shot.. But have you tried lactation cookies?????
:hello: Everyone else! I hope things are well with your bubbas!
AFM - Everything seems to just be cruising along.. Excepts for the sleeps during the day.. Aubree fights it something shocking.. Like she is going to miss something. If I want to have a shower and she is still awake I have to put her in her bouncer in the bathroom so that she can see me and doesnt freak out lol..
Im not going to talk about her sleep during the night, otherwise I will jinx is lol... I cant believe Christmas is only just around the corner! Luckily I have finished all the Christmas shopping.. I was going to make my mum and nana calendars for Christmas.. But it doesnt look like I am going to get it done before Christmas! Especially because my email is down at the moment and that has all the stuff on it that I need to print offf!! ARGH so frustrating!!!
