Babies Born ~ November 1st -15th 2011 #3

Nikky you getting Zoe checked out? Abby does a big cough type thing in her sleep every so often so I never leave her unattended much at all. Hope she's ok.

Had mine and Abby's checkup today with the GP and a nurse down there too but the nurse weighed her with all her clothes on. Anyway she weighed 4.90kgs, 59cms long and HC of 39cms. I would probably take off at least 100grms for the clothes etc at least.

Got AF back the other day too and OMG it's just as heavy as afterbirth blood loss. Probably TMI but I've been having to change every 2 hrs max.

Bummer Dan ;( still nothing here althouth I still have about 6 or so kg to loose (maybe more LOL), my stomach is so soft and spongey :S I got some killer stretch marks after the operation, so weird I got them after the birth and not before I think.

How did the vaccinations go Ck? Lilly was really good only cried a little, I hated getting them done becuase I hate people hurting her :( She was very unsettled and cranky that afternoon and we had to give her baby panadol the following 2 evenings due to a mild temp as well as cranky unsettled behaviour for about 3 days straight. Sore legs I believe.

Lilly has been unsettled all afternoon, cat napping and feeding small amounts and being cranky. Trying now after a big feed and bath to get her to sleep. She really detests humidity or heat so it is tough with the weather lately. So hard to get her to sleep, can't without dummy, lots of crying, cranky and getting over tired, constantly spits it. Gah. Doing first night sleep tonight with no wrap, see how we go.

She sleeps at other times without a wrap so not sure about a night sleep, I would feel better about her rolling without a wrap on. Looked into sleep positioners but looks like they can be a suffocation risk so decided not to use one. Not only is she rolling, we have caught her trying to learn how to get the dummy back in on her own. Talk about independant already

Well we're home - the oral rotavirus vaccine went down ok, he cried a bit with the two jabs, worse on the second one. Was his ouchy cry to begin with then his sad stick the bottom lip out cry for a little bit, but a cuddle made it all better, gave him a bit of a feed before we got back in the car and he fell asleep again pretty well straight away. Still asleep at the moment but should be waking up reasonably soon for a feed. I still felt horrible. Got his appointment with the nurse for a weight/length check next week.

Wow, Lilly is such an independent little miss! You're probably right she'll be better off without the wrap if she's rolling a lot. Alex is really close to rolling too, just needs to twist that little bit more to get his leg over and he'll have it. Scary really, Rach was a touch over 4 months old before she worked it out. He also has a tendency to somehow wind up with rings on his toys stuck over his arm like bangles.

I hear you on the AF front Danni, thought I was going to get away with just a day or so of spotting but nope, she's back with a vengeance.

Nikky - how scary :( I hope Zoe is OK. How is she going?

We did OK today. Trying to be less reliant on DH as he goes back to work on Monday. I hate having her cry at all but sometimes I have to as I have to do things for DS. It is usually very quick but it makes me feel awful. She loves being in her pram, I think because of her reflux the bugaboo is on a great angle for her. I keep her in it quite abit during the day and I am starting to actually get something done during the day. It's a life saver.

We bought a VW Tiguan. Abit more room than our other car. Good time to buy a car with the January sales if any of you are thinking of getting one.

Ughh for AF. Mine has been threatening to come so many times then nothing.

Thanks Jan and CK! I agree with you- I think addressing the problem by asking him what kind of house he would like violet to grow up in is a good angle to come from! It's definitely stemmed from issues from his past- his mum cheated on his dad and they argued all the time and got divorced when he was 9... So a few issues as a result... I've gr my GP appt thismorning with violet so I'll have a chat to her about it too cos she does some councelling!

Nikky what happened with Zoe? How terrifying!

Danni- uhhhhh SO not cool about AF back and so heavy?! I wonder why!? It might just be the first AF will be really heavy and the ones after will be okay? Far out, how unpleasant for you!

Jan- good that the bugaboo is a good angle! For showers etc can you wheel that into the bathroom door do she knows your around?

Violet slept from 11-4 last night, amazing!!!

Bit down in the dumps today, after a over 2 weeks of good eating bubs has suddenly reverted back to sleeping on the bottle, not drinking enough and falling asleep before she is done. I seriously thought we were past this. It's made me really depressed.

I am back to struggling with her to get her to eat each feed, and having to put her down asleep and pick her up again 10 mins later :(

My Pead is also recommending bubs start solids at 4mths. Apparently the Colledge of Pediatric Allergists are saying there is evidence to suggest now waiting 6mths is what they believe is causing these cases of increased allergies. That recommended to wait 6mths regardless of child rediness hasn't been the best thing. He said they did a recent thing and over 8% of toddlers were allergic to egg. Crazy stuff.

I know when I was a bub I started solids at 4mths becuase I was interested, and had mushed banana minus seeds, mushed milk arrowroot and rice rusks my mother has said. Interesting to think about.

Don't let it get you down too much hun, she'll probably go back to feeding well in the next few days - they do chop and change a fair bit, especially when going through growth spurts etc.

I'm thinking I might look into doing baby-led solids with Alex, DD was born before the whole 6 month thing and started on a bit of that icky Farex stuff and mashed banana at about 4 months as she was showing a lot of signs of being ready. There's no history of any allergies in my family to food at all.

Alex was quite unsettled last night, kept giving me his "ouch" cry so I gave him a dose of panadol before his last feed and he went right off to sleep. Seems happy and chirpy as usual this morning, had the biggest pooey nappy when DH got him up (and promptly ran out the door for work the rascal!) and is now complaining about having the hiccups.

Thanks Ck I really hope so. Its a real downer she was doing so well. Yeah I'm looking at BLS too. I'm sure when DD starts sitting up and seeing us eat she will want to as well. I hope she isn't as fussy with her food!

Lilly ended up with sore legs for a number of days after the shots and got really unsettled.

Looks like I will probably have to stop taking the motilium, its starting to make my tummy unhappy. Which is sad beucase I might now loose my supply but I can't make myself sick over it.

LOL I wish I could tell the difference in the cries with my DD, she seems to have given up on body language with me and just cries. We don't get the food goes in here anymore its just.. oh I'm hungry *Loud Cries*

She does have a grizzle she does when tired, and her ouch cry that she does when she has colic, but they arent always clear. Never mind, she just sat in her bed for 10mins practising her talking in bed earlier so perhaps she will just start telling me what she wants O.o She also has stubbornly decided she no longer wants to go to sleep in my arms, but in her cot. She is sitting there now trying to figure it out on her own.. Where did my newborn go again? >.> She slept fine without the wrap last night so win.

Shes a difficult bub to read her baby language could do with some work lol

Lolpigs- my GP suggested a tablet called domperidone for increasing milk supply- might be with trying? I got a prescription for it cos some days I feel like my supply isn't real good so ill get the tablets just incase!

Yeah that's Motilium hun :) It's what I'm taking. It's an anti neausea drug. You will probably need to take at least 6 a day to make any difference to your supply, I'm on 8 per day but it is starting to affect my stomach and things, I've noticed so I'm not sure about continuing to take it. I may have to just wean down on it and then make do with what I have.

Home from a shopping trip and waiting for DD to be picked up by her dad. Pressie for friend's baby shower tomorrow acquired and have discovered Alex likes it if I raise the back of his pram seat a bit so he can see what's going on as we zoom around the shopping centre, because he is a stickybeak :)

I've only got a few basic cries that it's easy to tell the difference between, the others can still be a bit of a mystery sometimes but then he also doesn't really cry all that much. His pain cry is quite distinguishable, as is his "hello, I'm awake!" yell and his "I'm uncomfortable for whatever reason, please fix it" cry. That last one though can be tricky sometimes as it can cover anything from being hungry to a squelchy nappy or too hot/cold etc.

Lolpigs- darn I thought it was a different drug so might have been kinder to your stomach! Wow annoying how it has that side effect!!!

You can use maxalon too but I found that made me want to sleep 24/7 lolpigs so maybe ask about that one.

Levi had a friend over Today, the boys had a great time gambling to each other.

How much dribble can a baby make lol. Levi is dribbling pretty bad, his shirts always soggy around the neck.

I've decided I'm going to teach Levi Auslan (Australian sign language).

Lolpigs - Sucks that the meds are making your tummy upset.. Did you get the vitamins of that nursing angel website? Aubree has been fussy the last couple of days as well, falling asleep half way through and what not, so I know what you mean! Its frustrating.

Amanda - YAY VIOLET for sleeping 11-4! I wish Aubree would get back into her little routine.. :( How are things going with your DH??

Danni - How is the BF going? And Boo to AF! You would think she would just stay away a little longer!

Nikky - How is Zoe after the chocking thing the other night? I hope the little munchkin is alright!! :hug:

Well today I had Aubree immunisations :( She was so brave and only started crying after the second one. I felt terrible, and I almost cried. Her little cry was heartbreaking! Im so glad to be home from our trip even if Aubree is unsettled! Hopefully she will work herself out in the next couple of days. Although after immunisations today she has been a bit out of sorts. DH and I have decided that we are just going to use condoms, I dont want to be on the pill as it does strange things to my body, and it took us two years to get Aubree so we figure if we want another child it will be hard again if i go on the contraception.
I have been searching high and low for a sleepy wrap here in Canberra but cant seem to find a baby shop that sells them.. So I am on a mission! I dont want to wait! After watching a video on them I want one NOW!! Aubree would love is because she loves been close to you, so it would be ideal, and I would be able to get stuff down around the house!
Well I better go do the last feed, I am hoping Aubree goes down for a decent sleep tonight because I am so tired! and by the sounds of her cry, she is tooo!!!

Yeah Vitamins didn't do much for me. Do you mean the one she wears to sleep? It is called I love to Dream wrap, and lets her starfish, although she is sleeping unwrapped now lol becuase she dosen't want to be confined funny munchkin.

The sling I use is called sleepy wrap. I also have an Ergo for when I go to the shops, easier than a pram at this stage.

Really annoyed at the swing I bought, it has stopped working, sent emails to both Fisher Price and the company I bought it from. I want a refund dammit!

Yeah the sling.. I think I might have to get one online I can't seem to fund anywhere to buy one here.

Nursing Angel have them for about $44, that is where I got my one from, Lilly was amost asleep and then spewed on her bed :( So now we are working at getting back to sleep with dummy. She was going to sleep without it too :S Silly stomach of hers.

Levi slept from 10:30 until 7am. I was very sore when I woke up lol. I thought we were going to have a bad night due to him having a belly ache before bed, he must known can't function without sleep lol.

Wow thats a long time. Bubs had a very unsettled day yesturday and it looks like more of the same today. She slept 8-12 then called out for a cuddle and comfort sucking so gave dummy, then slept till 2am before wanting a feed. Then slept till 6:30am, since then we have been unsettled and slept not more than 30mins.

First day on my own without hubby he is at his dads, so scary that its a day she has been totally unsettled, I was wiped out after 4 hours of no break. Least it wasnt screaming. In the end went for an hour walk and she got some sleep then.

Does it hurt when the pead does all the hip checking etc? Reason I ask is suddenly after his visit she has started all this behaviour and wondering if she might be sore from him doing all his checks?

Doing another feed now and hopefully will be able to get her to sleep for awhile. I dont know if this is linked to her teeth or her poor eating suddenly again. When do teeth generally start? Someone mentioned sooner if you use formula.

Lolpigs bugger about the swing, ours has worked well infact I gotta change the batteries there about to go completely flat. I reckon they should make the swing able to be plugged into power. Dunno about the formula/teething early thing though, all my kids have only gotten teeth after the six month mark and either been FF or comped. They only check for clicking in the hips and I watched the doctor the other day and he was quite gentle but maybe if it continues you could enquire or maybe take her to a natural therapist.
Abby was a dream yesterday, she slept all morning so I got the house completely spotless, then had a four hour wake period with maybe half hour sleep slotted in the middle and then slept another couple of hours for me to get the outside patio all cleaned before we went for a swim when DH/daddy got home from work :)
Today I'm tackling the shopping with three kids wish me luck..

Thanks Dan. I'll see how she goes. Shes sleeping now her tummy seems very unsettled and she something is definatley bothering her she kept giving me her uncomfortable/pain cry with lots of coughing so I gave her some panadol and will offer her boiled water when she wakes again.

I've also noticed and increase in her spitting up, not sure why this suddenly started. I'm most concerned when she is asleep and randomly spits up milk. She isnt crying or screaming afterwards it just interupts her sleep

No it has actually decreased, she got into a good feeding pattern in the last week and a half taking from 150ml - 200ml and being fine that was every 3-4 hours. Now she is back to sleeping on the bottle and struggling to finish 90-120ml. The spit up only started in the last few days since the sleeping behaviour started agian. When she was drinking more, she was not sleeping and was finishing quickly so I thought this sleeping difficult feeding was behind us.

The Karicare Goat 1 currently. Since the weekend we have been fully transitioned onto it perhaps her stomach is now adjusting? She is still getting BM shoud I add a thickener?

We also stoped the Losec as the Pead said becuase she wont take it via syringe, and we were putting it in the bottle he dosent know how affective it would be, so we stopped that when we saw him, but that dosent stop spit up.

Levi slept from 7am to 1pm with only a 15 min awake period to feed.

He's been very happy and cuddly this afternoon :) love baby hugs.

Lolpigs - how long did it take for you to get your sleepy wrap?

Few days Mollie not long at all. They are really fast I've noticed for delivery.

Half your luck Amumma! and Dan with that bub that sleeps alot, wish my Lilly would :( My Lilly is becoming increasingly unsettled, and difficult to settle. Not sure why but its seemingly some sleeps ok and some takes ages to get her settled. Perhaps I'm just not good enough with sleep ques yet but I don't seem to see any other than a yawn, and everyone tells me thats a late sign. So exhausted.

I could do everything else all the colic and tummy upsets if only she would sleep when tired. Dad is up there now trying to settle.

We had another good night! Aubree went down at 10 with a dreamfeed and didnt wake til 6! I fed her at 6 and she has only just woken now! Lovely! And the weather is raining and cooler so I am sure that is why she is sleeping better! I ordered a sleepy wrap off the Nursing Angel website, I hope I get it next week!!!

Well after that horrible experience the other night, Z has been FINE! damn brat! likes to scare the bejesus outta her parents I can tell you!
I kinda think she was struggling to catch her breath due to MAYBE having a lot of phlegm in her throat. (I STILL have a stupid headcold, so she may have what I have)

She wasn't drinking as much on thursday either, but thankfully she has more than made up for it in the last few days!

Her sleeping is AWESOME! (sorry those of you who are still struggling :( )

She usually has her last feed between 9 - 10pm, then I sit up with her for at least an hr (I find this helps her settle more as the milk has had time to settle) so she sleeps from 10ish to at least 5am! Sometimes 6 or 7am! LOVE it! Harriett NEVER did this lol

My mum goes home on Thursday! (can't wait really, I love having her here, but its just so crowded with her here as well so we get a bit more snappy, if you guys KNWIM

Zoe has almost grown out of her swing :( her lil feet are just about dangling over the edge! Same with the Capsule. SO have to go get Harriett's car seat out of the shed and ready that for this ever growing heffalump!

Hope you girls are going well. Hang in there, as those of us with kids have said before...IT DOES GET BETTER!!

Lolpigs my best advice would be try not to analyze everything, I did this with DS2 and it drove me batty. I got to the point with him that I was doing my housework of a night after 10pm cos he just literally screamed the house down all day long and was so unsettling all day everyday. Another thing is that they say that colic/reflux peeks in babies around the 6-8 week mark but usually settles around 12 weeks. Sorry I'm probably not a huge help but I found soon as I chilled and let him lead me that it all improved. Abby has some days that she is a bit unsettled but it's normally a little in the arvo and she has two brothers to keep her entertained - poor thing LOL. Actually while I'm typing this they are dancing around for her..

I'm with Danni on this one Lolpigs - babies change their patterns all the time, try to relax and go with her lead if you can.

Alex is growing out of all his clothes, but isn't quite big enough for the next size up yet...his 000 bonds suit is too short, but his 00 stuff still swims on him - looks so funny :)

Thanks Mollie, not really she had fitful sleep from 8 - 11 then I put her to bed, then she woke at 2am fed and went to sleep, woke with bad gas back to bed then fed at 6, then fitful sleep from 6:30- 9 and then I had her in the sling until 10:45 and I could put her back to bed again. She stayed there until 11:30.

I don't think any sleep anything will help till her Colic goes away, we do try each sleep to pat her and pop her down drowsy it either works or it dosent. Definatley does not work if she has had a bout or is about to have a bout of it. Mostly occurs either before or after a BM funnily enough.

Now I've noticed most of you say the last feed is 10pm. How do you do this? My bub has her last feed around 7pm then has a bath and on a good day is in bed by 8pm, waking around 2am. Although these last few days have been pretty bad and shes been all over the place. Should I try a dream feed at 10pm and how do I do it with a bottle? I'm trying to get her to stay in bed till around 4:30 she was for awhile but since the Colic has started up again its interupting her sleep alot.

Thanks for the support guys, it is hard when she is so super unsettled. It isn't her fault mostly her poor tummy gives her so much greif! Feels very much like i am doing somethig wrong

Had our GP appt yesterday and violet is now 6.45kg!! That's way above the highest percentile hahhaha! Chub! GP didn't seem to really know what she was doing though cos she told me
It's not the norm to get the whooping cough vaccine as parents, yet I was sure it was something your meant to do?! She also told me to use betadine on a weird little skin infection she has (like a scratch thing on her tummy but it's not a scratch) that she has had since birth but I checked the betadine leaflet and it says don't use if under 6 months old!?

Wow I find it amazing how some babies sleep through the night! Violet sleeps a max of 4 hrs mainly at the start of the night (did have one time when it was 5) and then about 2-3 hours after that, with 1-1.5 hours to feed and settle!

AM- trying your advice with propping bubs up on one side to sleep so the head can't lay on the flat side! It works well to keep her head the right way which is awesome! Hoping it evens out soon!

Nikky- glad Zoe is okay after the performance the other night!!

Lolpigs- sorry to hear about the colic... Hope today / tonight is better!!

Mollie- Is it amazing to be home in your normal bed?! Yay for aubrees awesome sleep!

Danni- how'd you go with the shopping yesterday with three kids?!

I have no idea how we got the last feed as 10pm sometimes it varies though and the last feed can be 11-11:30.. Thats just want she does. Aubree feeds every 3-ish hours during the day and then at about 5pm she likes to cluster feed - which makes getting dinner organized a pain, but thats just what she likes to do.. You and Lilly will get into a stride that suits you guys, but like Danni and CK said, just relax and go with the flow.. and YOU ARE NOT DOING ANYTHING WRONG!!!!

Aubree has been unsettled this morning - She woke up at around 8:45 had a feed (didnt go back to sleep) fed again at 12 and she has only just gone down to sleep now.. So as you can imagine getting washing an unpacking done pretty difficult. DH heads back to work tomorrow so hopefully we will be able to get back into the swing of things.

Lolpigs- I feed violet at about 10 only cos she doesn't sleep for long, so if I were to put her to bed at 8ish she would be waking for a feed just after I'd gone to bed myself! So we just have her up with us while watching tv etc, give her a bath around 9/10 and then feed her and put her to bed! Your not doing anything wrong hun, you sound like such a caring mum, sounds to me like your doing everything you possibly can!

Haha mollie we did it again!!! Ha :p yeah I might try get another doctors opinion! The nurse that came 2 weeks after birth said it looked like a birth mark but it's not cos it gets redder sometimes and sorta looks like inflamed pores to me.. Weird!!

Ooh yay for Wednesday! It's so fun to find out how they're growing etc! Hope it goes well! Glad to hear your home and relaxed now- must be the biggest relief!
