Lolpigs I had the loveliest of CHN's today and her comment to me was a happy baby has just as many health benefits as a BF bub. You have done the best you can for Lilly and you know parenting doesn't come with a to do manual so we all just stumble through doing the best we can at the time. You're a beautiful mumma don't ever doubt that!! Go with what you feel is the best path.

AM Levi sounds like a real little gem :)

Had to go out twice today and poor Abby was so tired tonight with being put out of routine. She is really used to having a good couple of hours sleep morning and afternoon and when we're out she only really gets to sleep half hour here and there in the ergo that she ends up way over tired.

I have no idea why, but Alex had a horrible night tonight. Just screamed and screamed and nothing we did made much difference bar the shower but he'd start screaming again as soon as we got him out. Eventually I decided to run him down to the after hours GP as it was totally out of character for him....but he fell straight to sleep in the car before we got there, so we came home and I put him into bed - he's just woken now for a feed. Trying to think whether it could've been something I ate but am drawing a blank because all I had for lunch was a ham and salad wrap, some yoghurt and a banana. Ah well, heres hoping it's just one of those mysteries and he's back to his cruisy happy self tomorrow...

Thanks guys. Still don't feel great about it. I don't get much support from my family aside from DH so it's hard and even he dosent understand really so he thinks I should just be able to get over it. I had a look at the milk I pumped this morning, there seems to be zero fat in it or very little? I guess this is the problem, no fat means perpetual hunger. :\ Least I know now. Noone understands why I am so upset about it.

Lilly had another great night. 10:30pm feed, and back to bed until 6:30am. I woke up every few hours to check on her thought LOL I am getting compression leaks in my cloth nappies though, any ideas Dan on how to get them to last longer? I'm trying sleeping bags with DD to see if she will sleep in those instead of a wrap, as having her unwrapped causes her to wake, blegh safter for her now she is rolling.

That's not good CK :( I hope he is feeling better and it was just gas or something simple like that.

So cute Amumma :) DH is the one that gets all the smiles at the moment, I get all the grumping... feed me etc LOL

Yes but I eat those quite regularly without any problems. I think it will remain a mystery known only to His Serene Smileyness.

Bananas can cause consterpation in babies. Also if you had any other dairy during the day it could be an overload.

Levi had a growth spurt while I was blinking, he's very long today lol

See the thing is, I haven't eaten anything I don't normally munch on without any problems. His poo this morning though huge was still pretty normal - I'm just going to put it down to one of those things I guess. He seems fine today.

Glad to hear he is doing better Ck, hopefully it was just one of those random things maybe some tummy pain or whatever.

Lilly's days are still really unsettled but not becuase of the Colic now, becuase she can't switch off and go to sleep during the day. I've started trying a routine for nap time, as I think becuase of all the tummy issues she has has she hasnt' gotten herself into a routine for day sleeps and we have just been doing whatever to get her to sleep. She has a really hard time settling. Won't settle in my arms so we are doing in cot settling for now with sleeping bag and dummy.

It's been hard the last 2 naps becuase she constantly wakes. Or wakes after 15-30mins. She is so tired :( Night times are fine however, I've ordered some block out curtains as perhaps it is too bright in her room and she has issues settling with the extra distraction.

After much persistance through 2 naps times today I seem to have gotten her to go to sleep finally. I never let her cry, I'm always in comforting once she starts to cry but its been tough getting her to sleep. She is getting really miserable and hard to manage during the day so I know she needs the down time. I've been doing feed, play, and then when she yawns taking her upstairs doing nappy change/check telling her its sleepy time, putting her in her sleeping bag and then giving her a cuddle until sleepy, if she starts to cry I use dummy to soothe in arms and walk and pat till sleepy then pop her into bed.

Each time she wakes, I wait until she is crying (she does the half assed cry/grizzle first) I calm her with bum pats and dummy until calm starting to get sleepy again and then leave. Rinse and repeat I don't know how many times today gees.

Hopefully this works, as she really needs to start getting more ZZzzz

Hopefully it will right itself in a week or so, after 8 weeks of inconsitancy from being unwell it's not a wonder she is all over the place :(

We had to go to docs today to get her losec prescription and doc thinks she has a combo of reflux/colic and settling issues. She says it can persist until 7 months, even one year. Not sure how I will get through. It is a daily slog. So much holding my arms feel like they are breaking. The patience of listening to her crying. It's just so tiring :(

I have no advice just sympathy and hugs. If you need to talk just send me a PM. I'm trying to sort DD settling issues out and colic and its so hard.

Lolpigs my nurse gave me a brouchure today about sleep/settling because we have been having a few issues during the day with Aubree, she isnt wanting to settle, and then fights it like crazy! I sent you a link that my nurse gave me.. It might be helpful...

Well I am pleased to say we had our 6-8 week check up today and Aubree is now weighing in at 4.725kg. So she has put on 1.725kg since birth! The nurse was so pleased :) Anyways Im off to spend some times with my hubby :)

My mum goes home tomorrow! going to miss having the company actually....but be glad to get my house back! and not to have her clutter everywhere!

So, Zoe has been puking a bit of late...like after every feed she has a bit of a puke. Sometimes it comes out her mouth AND nose! so distressing :( poor tyke

So last nite, I put a pillow under the sheet in my bed (where she sleeps), and laid her head on top of that...she slept great! no puking during the night! She slept right thru from 9ish to 7ish! And being that the pillow was under the sheet, I didn't have any fears of her getting her lil face stuck between two pillows :)

Tomorrow I have to go and pay the deposit for Harriett's dance lessons! yep, my baby is starting dancing next month! w00t .. I am finally becoming a *soccer mom* .. have ALWAYS wanted to be one! Dance, Swimming, School ...ohhh wait til they start sports! soooo exciting!

Teee hee heee heee Nikky....and then you get the 8am hockey game in the middle of winter, accompanied by the question from your little darling "Mummy, why is the grass white and crunchy?" But yaaay, dancing! Bet she'll be ever so cute in her little leotards :) DD is starting karate this year.

Lolpigs I've had to boost my nappies up with the extra padding cos there was a bit of a gap at the legs still. But I've still been using huggies overnight.

We got this cyclone coming overnight so we've been in prep mode all day and I've been cooking Anzac and chic chip biccies today :). Everytime I turn around this arvo DS2 is in stealing another lil bicci the little bugger LOL..

Nikky I can't wait till I can put a leotard and ballet shoes on Abby, she'd better be a little princess and not a tomboy hehehe!!

Hehe little ballet shoes! Hubby is hoping Lilly is a little princess. I'm sure she will be with the way she is acting!

Well despite yesturday we had a good night, went to bed at 6:30pm after her bath, dream feed at 10:30pm then up at 3am and back to sleep till 6am, and now asleep again at 7:15am. Seems the little miss who dosent like to be wrapped, actually does and wants her arms up so no more sleeping bags, and I bought some summer weight I love to dream swaddles. Little pest! :)

Is Feed Play Feed sleep an ok Routine? Lilly seems to settle alot better if she feeds before sleeping helps her wind down better than dummy sucking. Although she did just fall asleep in my arms I am hoping for more settled days as they affect her sleeping over night and her eating. She did fall asleep mostly in my arms that time around LOL

Mollie, the new routine of popping her down in the cot on her side and rubbing her leg until she is asleep worked well this time around. I wonder if it will work well next time? Seemed more comforting for her to be rubbed till she was asleep.

Aubree prefers to be rubbed rather then patted.. Don't know why, although some days she doesn't.. Who knows...
She made a liar or me yesterday though.. We have started at a mothers group and I was saying to one of the girls "oh I can't get Aubree to sleep longer then 40 min blocks during the day" She slept for basically the whole time we were there which was 2 hours... Little toad!! I couldn't believe it.. And then when we got home it was back to 40 min blocks!!!

Heh, feed/play/feed/sleep is what I normally do with Alex. He just settles quicker and sleeps longer. He also likes having the back of his head stroked. Had fantastic night last night, he fed then dozed slowly off to sleep on my chest, was in bed by 9.30pm and has just woken at 5am for a feed. Consequentially I woke up to wet sheets and a very sore chest because he'd usually feed twice in that time.

Need to figure out something to do with DD today - she was very patient with my tired blahness yesterday.

LOL fell asleep after last feed.. I'm not complaining! Although I guess this 100% confirms the Breastmilk was upsetting her ;( Shes been off it again now for over 24hours. Ah well.

I was just thinking the same thing, 3 so far today!

Dr said Aubree will probably get diarrhea with the abs im on. I can't imagine it would be any more then usual... I've changed 3 as well..

Oh I've only had one so far today, but it was a doozy! Went all up his back out the top of his nappy and all over his clothes....

It's funny, he's generally pretty regular with his poos - we have one in the morning just before morning naptime and then one in the evening just before bedtime. Sometimes more. Can always tell he's doing one too, he grunts and grizzles a bit, wriggles around a lot arching his back and turns red...no wonder he hates doing them.

He's also apparently decided that his bedroom is too hot during the day and won't sleep in there. Can't say I blame him when his Gro-Egg says it's 30C in there even with the fan going full bore. So for the last 3 days he's slept in his rocker in the loungeroom (which is where the aircon is). Currently waiting for him to wake up so we can go out.

Abby slept last night from about 9pm till 8:30 this morning, must have been all the rocking and house shaking from the cyclone.

I thought Abby was getting sick yesterday cos her nappies changed a bit and she did four dirty nappies which is a bit odd for her but she's all fine.

When you go out, do you go out after a feed? Still trying to figure the best time to go out with DD

Usually straight after a feed is the best time for us. But he's still asleep and since going out is for funsies not for anything in particular it can wait. If it's because of appointments and whatever, I try my best to time them so I can feed then go, he'll usually fall asleep in the car. Otherwise we make do, but run the risk of him deciding he's hungry while en-route, which isn't fun.

If I know I'm going out I plan his feeds but if I want to pop to the shop I'll wait until after a feed. If I have people coming over I just feed in Levi's room.

Mollie I found when I had both my ducts blocked a real good massage in the hot shower helped unblock them. So did you get a blockage first or did it just appear as mastitis?

I tend to feed then go out but since we mainly FF I just take a bottle of prepped water and I also have these avent cups used for freezing baby meals and I just measure out the right amount of formula and just pop them in my bag, that way if I go over feed times etc I'm pretty well prepared.

Thanks guys, Yeah I do that I just worry about her sleep. She seems to have a hard time settling when we are out and then when we get back its bloody murder LOL The ergo puts her to sleep but that newborn section is really hot.

Oh Ck that is what I was going to ask you, do you do the back strap up on the ergo on your own? Maybe I dont have mine set up properly or my boobs are too big or something but I can't reach it (the one around the back that clips across your back.)

Danni I woke up this morning with flu like symptoms and a massive lump. I managed to get the lump out in the shower and then went to the doctor.
So I'm on 3x500mg amoxycillen a day. I'm hoping I start to feel better by the end of the weekend. DH's lovely boss has given him tomorrow off so he can look after me and help me with Aubree.
I rang the aba this afternoon because I was feeling so low, I was.about ready to chuck in the breastfeeding towel and go buy some formula, but after talking to this lovely lady I'm going to ride it out!!
Sorry to be a downer ladies, I just dont really know who else to talk to :(

:hug: I'm sure you will get through it. My mum says make sure you get Aubree to suck on that boob first, and rub where you were getting the lump so you clear it all out.

Don't give up hun I'm sure you will get through it fine. Formula is more hassle than you think ;)

Lol I can do up the back strap on my own, takes a bit of practice and flexibility though. I have it quite high so it sits across my upper shoulders, bring both straps up and clip it in then slide the back strap down a bit if I feel like it. And you're right, that newborn insert is really quite warm, so I generally only use my ergo in places with good a/con. I use my breeze baby sling in other places and if I'm just nipping in quickly as it's a lot easier to get on/off and is cooler.

Lolpigs, I definitely know what you mean about worrying about their sleep! Violet sleeps about 4hrs plus another 2hrs overnight, then just a few short catnaps during the day- I am amazed at how little sleep she has- but she really often acts overtired and upset because of it! Hun, with your breastfeeding- you mentioned there wasn't much fat, mainly just the watery milk- well the watery part of the milk is where all the really good immunity etc comes from, so she would've had so much wonderful nutrition from that, like CK said! So you've done really well! The pic of Lilly is gorgeous!!!! What a beautiful face!!!

For the last two nights, it's taken me from 9/10pm till midnight to get violet to sleep! Can't settle her in the bassinet, she just lies there wriggling around and looking around all restless, so I try to get her to sleep in my arms, then transfer her to the bassinet but she wakes up as soon as I put her in it! Same goes in the middle of the night after a feed!

Just wondering peoples opinions- I can still only get violet to last 4 hrs overnight - a friend suggested topping her up with formula before bed to keep her feeling fuller longer- is this a good idea? I can't make my mind up about it!

Bought the ergo cocoon wrap today- it says extreme fire danger on the tag? Does that worry anyone else?!

Yeah I've been looking at the different holds in the sleepy wrap, I think I'll try the love my baby hold tomorrow when I go visit the CHN. Does anyone know a good pead in sydney? I've visited the one I was allocated when I left hostpial but I'm not too fussed with him really, he dosent spend enough time explaining just barrages of questions. Apparently there was a murmor he could hear on the first visit and didnt even mention it, only mentioned it the second time saying "oh that murmor I heard last time is fine it's completely innocent" We were like.. wtf? So yeah not really keen to keep paying him money. He also had no clue what our daughter was taking even thought he had pescribed it. Dissapointing really. Our referal is expired anyway so I would have to go back to our OB.

Meh, perhaps I'll just stick with our GP he is quite good and I've been with him for years.

Have you tried her cot for sleeps yet? Lilly was doing the same thing and it was because she wanted the space in her cot and not be closed in. Worth a try? Also Lilly has become super independant in the last week and refuses to settle in arms and wants to suck her hands but isn't co ordinated enough yet, and is frustrated or dosent like the dummy and is trying to learn to comfort herself with her hands. Perhaps Violet is the same? You could try popping her down after a feed and see what she does, perhaps she wants to try and settle herself like Lilly.

To calm Lilly in her cot I stroke her head, rub her leg or pat her bottom. Also I've taken a leaf from Ck's book and offer another feed before putting her down after a play. Sometimes she takes it sometimes not, but I find she settles faster and quicker if she does. Might be something else to try?

You could try a dream feed around 10 - 11? This worked for Lilly on Dan's advice. I do it in the dark and only change her nappy feed and put her back to bed after burping. I dont talk to her just shh her if she stirs. Seems to keep her down till at least sometimes 6am if she drinks enough. Sometimes she is too sleepy to drink properly though like last night and she woke at 3am. I wouldnt touch formula if your breastfeeding is established hun. I would just go with the flow she dosen't have to sleep through yet, 5-6 hours is counted as sleeping through LOL

I scared Levi today :( he fell asleep on my boob and I moved him and talked to him. His lip dropped and he cried and sobbed for a good 3-4 mins before I could calm him. Felt so bad.

I've been eating so badly lately. I feel so terrible, I wonder how it makes poor Levi feel. Tomorrow I'll be starting a healthy eating plan (weight watchers). Hopefully both Levi and I feel better.

Lolpigs Abby is all fine but I have got her immunizations tomorrow.

Amanda I can understand you want Violet to sleep longer but i'm with lolpigs about not doing it if you can help it. You might do it and it doesn't even change her sleep pattern. Does she cluster feed of an arvo or night? Maybe you can slot some more feeds in there. I also used to find Abby would settle well after a bath and feed, although tonight i got DH to feed Abby then I bathed, gave her a nice baby massage then settled her and she literally drifted off within 2 mins.

Also girls remember this stage goes really quick and before we know it they'll be walking eeeek!

Mollie hope you get better quick. We are here for you to vent whenever you need.
