Sounds exciting Ck :) We have talked and decided to wait till DD is about a year or so old before TTC #2, need a break inbetween as this one has been a bit of a rough ride! Can't believe shes 3 months old next week!
How you doing Amumma? I hear you about feeling lonley. Perhaps a hobby is in order? I've gone back to my passion which is baking to kill time now DD is starting to finally settle more. Cuppies & Cakes This is my stuff from last year, I can't believe its been a year since I baked! I did just make a batch of Whoppie Pies.. mmmm /scoffs Time files when your busy getting ready for a baby :) Bless her even puts herself to sleep now without a dummy.. who ever thought she would do that!
Sounds like hes looking for comfort, DD is super clingy when her teeth are bothering her. I just pop her in the sleepy wrap so I can give my arms a break. Explosive poo perhaps the extra feeding is causing it?
Edit: Yes that too Ck, even going for a walk with DD breaks up the monotony! I found a local mothers group on Meetup.com perhaps there will be one close by to yourself Amumma?
-
Ohhhh CK that's heaps exciting!!! Must be fun knowing that it won't be too longe before trying for another one!
How fun!! Haha I don't know that we will be able to afford another baby for a while, we refinanced our mortgage a bit to afford me taking a year off and might have to wait till we can do that again in a few years before baby number 2!
Re mothers groups- in booked into one for Thursday - does anyone kinda worry that our babies aren't fully vaccinated when going to mothers groups though?
Nikky I hope your girls are okay with the nasty cold Harriet has!
-
Worrying about vaccs never really occurred to me - I just take reasonable precautions, as would most other mums, things like staying home when sick etc. The benefits of going out and socialising, getting some adult conversation as well as seeing other babies a similar age is worth the teeny risk of catching a serious disease.
Alex is being a limpet-baby today, oh well - is an excuse to hang out in the lounge and ignore the washbasket :)
-
Hugs Jan I hope Jessica's reflux improves soon.
CK I guess as long as the vomiting doesn't bother him it's all ok from what i've been told.
Ummm also CK do you remember the date you got your AF? I just remember mine come a few days later and I haven't had one since except that slightest amount of spotting the other day.
AM I totally get the loneliness I'm a bit like that too, a couple of us have just started weekly meet ups and I will be starting kindergym with DS2 in Feb too.

Around the 5th or 6th Jan I think. So come to think of it, if it's going to come at all should be this week...yuk!
-
Aw poor you girls, hope AF stays away!
CK yeah your right, the benefits outweigh the tiny risk I'm sure!
UM I totally just broke my laptop screen with my thumb!!!! It's totally stuffed!
-
GRR why won't Lilly just eat.. gah that is the most frustrating thing EVER!!!!
ok tanty over with, but still :( now she will be up at 11pm becuase she didn't eat properly sigh. some days are super frustrating with eating with DD>
-
Lolpigs does she just not wanna feed sometimes, like she's asleep?
I can't remember when AF was, it would have to be close though! Might have to track back a bit but I thought it was closer to Xmas that's why I thought last weeks spotting was sure to be AF but nope... crikey hope I'm not UTD again, DH and I laughed about that last night kinda cos it hasn't quite been 6 weeks since the big snip.

LOL - she's a baby! you have at least another 60+ years of her frustrating you ;) ... enjoy the time where it is only the not eating that is frustrating you ;)
Ohhh I *surfed the crimson wave* on 15th of this month! am rather interested to see if my periods have regulated at all. I can go months without getting one...w00t!
Amanda - you doof! how did you manage to kill yr lappy screen???
Girls, I HAVE to lose weight :| I can't believe how big i have let myself get :( tisn't fair on the girls... don't want them to have the fattest mum at school! So, I need to start exercising or SOMETHING!
-
LOL Nikky - I was like what is she on about "crimson wave" took a second for me to get it hehehe!!
I know what you mean weight wise, I'm not even game to weigh myself since having Abby and I was looking super good when I fell preggas too :(
What I did was join the online calorie king make sure it's the Australian one and it is awesome cos you input everything into your own database type thing on there and it makes you accountable for yourself and teaches you to eat properly too. Gives you goals along the way and it has a forum on there too. It's a good kickstart anyway to get things going!!
Ok I tracked back on our last baby buddies page thingy and I posted on the 5th Jan about getting AF a few days earlier so I would say AF started around the 2nd or 3rd Jan for me which would take me too 28days exactly ATM or yesterday.
Hopefully I get my lappy back this week from the Harvey Norman repair people. So Amanda you will have to keep me posted how you go with study and bub, I'm thinking of studying next year, DS2 will be in kindy and I'll only have Abby with me at home and she's pretty easy going/placid so should be ok.

Yeah thats it Dannim.
LOL i have to loose weight too. I still carrying some baby weight. Just calorie count, I Pm'd you how I lost a bunch of weight (and then found out I was pregnant HA)
Edit: Posted here too if anyone is interested.
Whatever your starting calories, take off 200 cal per week. Maintain this while ever you continue to loose weight. Once you platu redo your calorie as per below, and take another 200 cal off etc etc Be careful not to take off too many calories or it will have the opposite affect on your weight loss.
And here is how you work out the calories intake.
"To work out approximately how many daily Calories you need, you have to calculate your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) and then multiple it by a factor that best represents your usual Physical Activity Level (PAL). These equations are provided below.
The Harris Benedict equation is a mathematical formula used to estimate BMR. That is, the amount of energy, measured in Calories, your body needs to just keep it ticking over - like the fuel a car needs to keep it idling all day, i.e. the engine is turned on, but you are not going anywhere.
You need a certain amount of Calories to keep your body idling, plus you need more fuel to power it for the activities undertaken during the day. This is called the PAL. The amount of fuel your body needs depends on how hard you drive it, just like it does with a car. If you exercise all day you need a lot more fuel (measured in Calories) compared to staying in bed all day, or veging out in front of TV.
To lose weight, you have to work out how many Calories you need on an average day, and then subtract 500 Calories from that total to lose 0.5kg over a week. To lose a kilogram in a week, you subtract 1000 Calories per day.
On the Biggest Loser they greatly increase their physical activity levels to burn off greater amounts of Calories and therefore can lose bigger amounts of weight.
Total daily Calories per day = BMR x PAL.
The Harris Benedict Equations for calculating you Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) is;
Women: BMR = 655 + ( 9.6 x weight in kilos ) + ( 1.8 x height in cm ) - ( 4.7 x age in years )
Men: BMR = 66 + ( 13.7 x weight in kilos ) + ( 5 x height in cm ) - ( 6.8 x age in years )
To estimate your total daily Calorie needs (BMR x PAL), choose the PAL from the list below that best represent your usual activity level and multiply it by your BMR.
For your Physical Activity Levels (PAL):
1.2 = sedentary and you do little or no exercise
1.375 = lightly exercise or sport 1-3 days/week
1.55 = moderately active with exercise or sport 3-5 days/week
1.725 = Very active with hard exercise or sport 6-7 days a week
1.9 = extremely active with very hard exercise or sport and a physically active job or training twice a day
"

Lolpigs I probably will need to wait till I get the laptop back hopefully this week before I read it :(. It's a PITA trying to on the iPhone but it's all I have ATM.

Yeah I'll keep you posted Danni! I reckon if you do it part time it's be fine! What are you thinking of studying? What were you getting your laptop fixed for? I just broke my screen and am hoping I can get it fixed rather than replacing it!
Nikky, I just pushed the screen back but pushed too hard with my thumb on the glass- so mad, especially cos I need it for uni soon!!! Very mad!
-
Thanks for that girls!
Will def go in and have a look at that website. It is currently down, so will try later!

I'm going to look for a play group after the baby classes finish. I also catch up with a friend weekly but its weekends too.
Lolpigs, OMG!! I was only saying the other day I wanted to learn to bake and decorate. I'm going to start with cakes and work to decorating lol.
I don't know how long I can keep Levi off food, he's mouthing, salivating and reaching for food.
-
Baking is the best, decorating takes patience and time, but once you learn the techniques all it takes is practise :) Let me know if you need any help at all, I will help you however I can.
Hmm, what about giving him something else to gnaw on, perhaps something cold for his teeth, or a dummy?
Z is just beautiful Nikky :)
-
Mmmm, baking is awesome fun - I tend to go more for biscuits, cakes and things rather than cupcakes I guess, but still...fun.
-
Oh I do cakes too they are just more time consuming. Would anyone like a red velvet cake recipie? Its so good...
Cupcakes are easier decoration wise and design wise but cakes can be spectacular

Mmmm, I'd love to get into decorating. Mine are mostly tasty but normal looking. I've got a few different red velvet recipes, yet to try it though. Made an awesome chocolate ganache and cherry tart for Chrissie :)
-
Mmm they sound tasty ck
Let me know if you want help getting started with decorating I have been doing it for some time. I am no expert but happy to help :)

Lolpigs, I'd love your recipe, I'll try anything once and hubby was more than happy when I told him
I was going to try cakes and decorating lol.
Levi has a dummy, I have a feeling he will be ready for food right on if not before 4 months.
-
Oooooo lolpigs can you send me that recipe too sounds very yummy!!!
AM got this awesome baby and toddler recipe book off Mothers Direct has heaps of combo's and basically guides you every step through to 12+ months for food for babies along with a meal planner. I'll get the name for it if your interested? She also says in the book babies digestion isn't ready till 17 weeks which is pretty much 4 months anyway - can you believe it's only really another 6 weeks till then!
I'm thinking I will be holding off till closer to 6 months, just can't imagine Abby will be ready anytime soon. It's weird cos both boys were on solids from 4 months, maybe boys are just ready earlier and hungrier little beings!
Nikky - Zoe is so gorgeous!!
Amanda my screen just went black one day just before Xmas. Who did you buy it off? As we got mine at Harvey Norman nearly 3 yr ago but I got it with extended warranty so it's being repaired under that or you could get it done also under your insurance as well so check that out.
Thinking of doing Midwifery, I said just after I had DS1 I wanted to but just never did. DH isn't too keen on me doing it cos of shift work but we will cross that discussion again when it arises, gotta get through the degree first hey!? My biggest issue is being able to find a uni that I can do it externally through. Lots to think about, I need to make sure it's what I really want, don't want to start something that I don't follow through with.

Dan Id love the name of the book :)
Think this food shop is going to cost us a mint...normally I just wing it but this fortnight Ive done up a shopping list lol. Always realise your missing more when you do that.

Sure guys here you go :)
Serves 16
Ready in 2½ hours
Ingredients
For the cake
250g good-quality dark chocolate
3 medium free-range eggs
250g light muscovado sugar
1 vanilla pod, cut in half lengthways and seeds scraped out
2 tbsp maple syrup
2 tbsp clear honey
40g self-raising flour
40g plain flour
¼ tsp bicarbonate of soda
¼ tsp salt
25g cocoa powder
50g ground almonds
250g raw beetroot, peeled and finely grated
100ml strong black coffee
30ml sunflower oil
1/2 Bottle Red Food Colouring
For the topping
150g good-quality dark chocolate
3 tbsp strong black coffee
1 tsp vanilla essence
3 tbsp clear honey
Alternative Topping
250g Packet Cream Cheese
4 Tablespoons Icing Sugar
2 Teaspoons Grated Lemon Rind
Method
Preheat a conventional oven to 160ºC, or a fan-assisted one to 140ºC. With the help of a brush and a tiny bit of sunflower oil, grease the surface of a round 20cm diameter by 8cm high loose-bottomed tin and set aside.
Melt the chocolate gently in a bowl over a pan of simmering water until all dissolved, then set aside to cool.
In a large mixing bowl, beat the eggs with the sugar, the scraped-out vanilla seeds, the maple syrup and the honey for three minutes with an electric hand whisk until pale and quite fluffy.
Gently fold in the flours, bicarbonate of soda, salt, cocoa and ground almonds until fully incorporated.
Using some kitchen paper, dab the grated beetroot thoroughly to remove some of the excess moisture. Fold in the beetroot, cooled chocolate, food colouring, coffee and oil with the help of a spatula until thoroughly mixed together.
Pour the mixture into the prepared tin and cook in the middle of the oven for 1 hour 30 minutes. After this time, cover the cake with foil and bake for another 30 minutes.
Test the cake by inserting a skewer into the centre to see if it comes out clean (although this cake is so moist that even when the cake is fully cooked, the skewer comes out looking slightly messy). Leave to cool on a wire rack.
Icing:
To make the fudge topping, melt the chocolate gently in a bowl over a pan of simmering water, then remove from the heat and add the coffee and the vanilla essence.
At this stage the chocolate will seize up slightly, but it will relax back once you add the honey and gently mix in.
Set aside to cool for 15 minutes before icing the cake. Cut the cake through the middle and ice it in the centre and on all sides.
Alternative Icing:
Sift icing sugar and lemon rind into cream cheese. Beat until combined and fluffy.
Decorate the top with whatever you fancy, but I like using pink flowers, such as tulips or roses, which I plant into the cake with a bit of stem left on.

AM the books called "Annabel Karmels's new complete baby and toddler meal planner". I got mine online at the mother's direct store (ABA website)

Wow that cake sounds awesome!! Thank you.
Thanks Dan :D I'll have to have a look later when my boy isn't asleep on my lap lol.
-
Hope everyone is well.
Still baffeled a little by Lilly's behaviour in the mornings. Without fail she is awake at 6:30am, and is fussing. She isnt hungry, she is still really tired but is awake. I've tried getting her up to start the day, but only to have her really cranky and have to put her back to bed.
I've tried getting her up feeding her, but she refuses to eat, and I've tried just settling her in the cot without getting her up, but with dummy that only last an hour or so before she is fussing again.
Tomorrow I'm going to try getting her up, burping her and rewrapping to try and get her resettled.
Any suggestions? It's like shes tired but dosent know what to do with herself.
Excited, going up to Toukley tomorrow for the weekend with friends.

Ugh, I'm sick. Woke up and my nose is blocked/runny, throat is sore and I'm coughing. Feeling completely rotten, but also worried about Alex catching it. Alex on the other hand is full of beans after sleeping from 9pm to 6.30am with only the one wake up at 2.30am for a feed.
Going to be a long day :(
-
ohh Cranks :( you poor thing!
My hubby has woken up with the same thing! Harriett has a runny nose that is soooo split its bleeding :( poor tyke
Zoe and I on the other hand...are right as rain!
Alex will no doubt be fine! all yr good boobie juice will help him fight it!
-
Danni, I checked and our insurance apparently doesn't cover it- grrrrr. So I called around and it's about 400 to replace the screen! Darnit! Itd still probably be in warranty but cos I broke it wouldn't be covered... So annoyed at myself!
Um YUM looking cake recipe lolpigs! Violet does that in the mornings at about 6:30/7 so I get her up, she says hello to daddy, has a bit of a play and then is super tired too! I reckon it's when her room gets light she thinks it's awake time! I need to get the blockout blinds!
CK ohhhhh gah, stupid cold! How annoying for you! Hope it goes away soon.... Yeah hopefully Alex will be okay and avoid it!
Nikky, aww poor missy Harriet.. Hope her little nose heals up fast!
After spending a fortune at targets baby sale, I just got the big w baby sale catalogue in the mail! Hehhehehhehe. Planning purchases now :)
-
Yeah I'm thinking its just her body clock. Tomorrow I'm going to get her up for a little while for a cuddle then pop her back into bed. Quiet mornings are best. She has dropped a feed too so I've started getting her up at 10:30pm for a dream feed.
Haha yeah I saw that cattle dog Amanda :) I am going to get a Bumbo on the way to Toukley so we can use it in the shower up there for Lilly so I can sit her on the floor of the shower.
Colds are :(
-
Wow Lilly has dropped a feed and is down to 4 feeds, and is doing sleep play sleep today.. but the thing is she is pretty upset when I go to put her down and needs dummy.. such a dramatic change.. 4 weeks till we start solids! My new Pead said solids help reflux babies so fingers crossed :)
-
ohh, that's a good topic LOL.
When/what age you guys going to introduce solids to ya bubs?
Like with Harriett, we are going to wait till Zoe is 6 months before we do.
I got a Bumbo yesterday Lol...Zoe sits in it while we eat dinner hehe Only because she has outgrown the swing :|
-
I am just going by the pead for DD, but TBH I would start solids at 4 months/whenever they are ready. Thats how we were raised.
-
Hi :)
Yesterday and today has been horrible for us. She has continued to be unsettled most of the time. Then yesterday when I was changing her she did a vomit, and there was a small amount of blood in it :( Some of it landed on her bib and I noticed straight away it was a different colour. I was soooooooo upset. Called the paed who wouldn't see us until MONDAY. Dumbfounded I hang up, but then when I told my brother he said that I demand a sooner appointment. So I rang back, the secretary was nasty saying it was only a *small* amount of blood. I said that I'd been unhappy with the way we had been treated there. He'd told me to not come back until she was 4 months old. The sec was very rude and said that was all she could offer and she'd talk again with the paed. I said I'd find another paed to see us this week and she answered "good luck, you wont get an appt this week".
Then she rang back, said she had the paed on the phone. He talked to me like I was a criminal and was a bully saying I shouldnt have talked to his sec like that. That he had phone records of everything I said. He went on and on, until I said I was very distressed and didn't want to speak to him anymore. He said even though I had behaved so badly he would still see us. I told him I'd find another paed as I couldn't believe a doctor would speak to a patient like this.
My brother recommended a paed, guess what after explaining what happened they saw us that afternoon AND he was in the rooms NEXT DOOR to the other pead. I knew it was the same hospital but didn't realise they were next to each other. The old paed found out what I was doing somehow and he had the gall to show up outside in the hall after we had out appointment!! He obviously wasn't that busy. He asked me if I had received the care that I needed? I said yes I did but he shouldn't have spoken to me like that. All I wanted was help for my baby. It was unbelievable. That guy gives me the creeps. Won't be seeing him again. The new doc was so nice and said that it had been going on for too long. Gave us Zantac, Neocate formula and losec suspension so no more crushing tablets. I'm hoping it works, though he said it will take a week or two. I'm to call him on Monday. So much better than the other guy. But it really shook me up.
To top it off, spoke to MIL during all this. Explained what had just happened and she said "hmm, actually the reason I called was to find out the date of Julian's party in APRIL. Wasn't interested about her grand daughter just vomiting up blood. And the reason she needed to know the date was so she could organise all her own bocce parties. Anyway, Pat didn't return their phone calls last night. He is sick of their behaviour, so my FIL turned up at my place this morning all ticked. Had a go at me, so I told him a few home truths. MIL is very upset by what I said. So it has been an incredibly stressful few days :( DH was very upset with me too, then said everything I said was true. He just hates dealing with them and said its better to say nothing to them at all. Ughh....
Nikky Miss Z is absolutely adorable!!!
CK I hope you feel better soon
-
OH MY GOSH JAN! I cannot believe how disgusting the pead's behaviour was, I'd have been in TEARS, you poor thing! Oh I'd love to kick him in the nuts for you! People like that should NOT be able to practice medicine. Especially when your a mum jut trying to get the best care for your baby and what mother wouldnt want an earlier appointment than Monday?! Monday is rediculous. The NERVE of that secretary as well, the two of them should go work in a profession where they don't talk to people. I'm so disgusted on your behalf! Id be feeling very emotionally wrecked after that if I were you! And to make matters worse - ugh @ your inlaws!!!!!!! I dont even know where to begin with them. Huge huge hugs to you- I'm SO glad you were able to get a new, good pead, and I really hope the new formula and meds help..
Wow, I'm so sorry you had to go through all that... If your feeling a bit traumatized / distressed, you have every right to be! I'd be feeling heaps shaken up... Hugs hugs hugs!
I think we will start solids at 4 months, if she's interested... :)
Did some more shopping and bought a whole bunch of size 0 onesies, cos little miss doesn't seem to fit into 00 anymore, her little toes are right at the end!
-
I'll probably start Alex on solids somewhere between 4-6 months when he shows me he's ready.
Feeling a little better, Alex had a 3hr nap which meant I got one too. Being a fun and interesting mummy is hard work when you're feeling sick and just want to sleep. But on the plus side, I got all his nice new nappies washed and folded.
ETA - Jan I'm so sorry you went through that! That is absolutely revolting behaviour from the paed, so glad the new one was nicer and seemed to actually CARE about how distressed and upset you were  Here's hoping the new medication works, seeing blood in her vomit must've been scary. And as for your self absorbed ILs...
-
**** Jan!
REPORT that son of a b!tch! Seriously! if you can't handle stressed out mums then you are OBVIOUSLY in the wrong profession!
Oh I am so angry on yr behalf right now! that words are failing me!
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
-
Think we'll be closer to 6 months Abby isn't an overly hungry baby. Think I would rather add an extra milk feed than to introduce solids earlier.

Thats horrific Jan! What a SOB! I am so glad you got a new pead and they are helping you. At least my old pead was only indifferent :/ I hope the new formula helps poor little girl.
Many many hugs to you, MIL suck!
