Chuckie, George started to do catnaps at one stage aswell, and I felt like I was going to go nuts! But, I read somewhere that a couple of causes can be:
1. They're not full enough and get hungry quicker
2. They're not tired enough when they go down for a nap, so they only catnap
For me, it was number 2. I was putting him down when he started to get a little grizzly, but he wasn't actually really tired yet. Now I wait a bit longer (usually he's up for 2 hours at a time), and he sleeps from anywhere between 1 and 2 hours. That may or may not help... P may just be too excited about being awake and playing to sleep for too long! Haha
I am definitely interested in meeting you Melbourne girls. I was just talking about this with DH and my therapist infact the other day. My friends are all single and with no interest in getting married or having kids etc, so I have felt a bit isolated since having George. I was also thinking I should make an effort to meet people who are a similar position to me.
What suburb are you all in?
Buzzie - Wantirna, right? I grew up in Vermont, so I know your area really well
Chuckie - Tullamarine is basically on the opposite side to Wantirna, but we can work it out
Belfie - ??
Conne - Melbourne, I actually live in the city (for now) - St Kilda Rd.
I'm a Melbourne girl too- all the way out in Pakenham though so the compete opposite side to you all! If your all happy to do the drive over (45minutes from the city but just straight down the Freeway!!) I am happy to host a BB Mums Group afternoon at my house anytime...we could perhaps organise something?
Chuckie yeh will definately work something out, DS starts childcare on the first so that's an option if it's a good day for others?
Wite - I'll be up for that Found some gorgeous houses in berwick.. That's prob now about as far out as we ate looking incase I go back to my old job. Still love the houses your way though!
I've been all over BB and found the melb catch up groups, we are starting one on the 2nd of every month and there's another one at Melbourne zoo being arranged ATM.
Another girl has invited ppl to her pram walking group every tues and thurs so there's lots out there
Oooooh forgot to mention I'm surprising DP and dying my hair light brown (like I did when we conceived DS lol) and getting a spray tan tomorrow! Can't wait to see his face when he sees me on wednesday
So my FB pics might look like a different person lol
Chuckie - I second Connie; Chloe only naps when she is not tired enough. If she is up for 2 hours then she sleeps for 2 hours. But then Chloe is pretty bad overnight so its hard to really say. As for work - I am not doing on site stuff yet as it is too hard to go away and leave Chloe! Perhaps when she is off the BM and a bit older I will go back to doing that. For now its just writing, data analysis, reviewing etc. I also need to fix the website up a bit before I go hunting work - I use a Mac program to create it so it looks a little funny when people view it on PC's which is really annoying. 8 hours in a car!! Gee I hope Pearl behaves for you - what a journey
Buzzie - yay for getting your hair done and a spray tan!! I am too embarrassed to go to a hairdresser at the moment with all my hair falling out all over the place ha ha. Will check your photos out.
So jealous of you all - wish I was in Melbourne to meet you too!
Well a bit of a milestone today - Chloe has gone to my mums for the day. Mum was so excited which is sweet. However, Chloe still refuses a bottle so I dont know how mum will go feeding her EBM. I left her with a bottle and a sippy cup. I am just at home though as I get the feeling that she will cry and cry when it comes to trying to feed her and I might have to go over. Trying to keep myself as busy as possible while she is gone!!
Connie - I'm in Vermont! Just near Vermont Secondary College & Bellbird dell, I'm guessing you'd know it pretty well if you grew up around here! Xander is in daycare Mondays & Thursdays... so I guess for anyone else with older kids, depends if we want to try & do days with or without them!?
If we can find somewhere inclosed might be nice for the big kids to play together too?
I thibk we all have FB so I can start a group chat for the melb girls ..
Hey Connie.... U have a friend on ur FB who friends with my ex from high school that I'm still good friends with!! Freaked me out seeing u had friends in common lol forgot her name tho will check.
Buzzie - start a fb group chat and we can work it out... and discuss our mutual friends Although my fb went crazy the other day and scrapped half of my friends - I'm guessing it's probably someone I went to High School with - I went to Aquinas.
Belfie - I know exactly where that is! Have you lived in the area long? My older brother went to Vermont SC, and my parents owned the fish and chips shop on Canterbury Rd near there... a loooong time ago!
Meanwhile, George is totally outgrowing his cradle... today I went in to check on him while he was napping and both his legs were through the bars, I might put the pic on fb. I need to stretch this cradle because we dont have the space for a cot in our apartment. I was hopping we would be in our house by Xmas and he would be in this cot and we wouldnt have this issue, BUT my father-in-law is involved in the house build, and he has NOOOO sense of urgency! I am thinking about getting an airwrap or something... just so he cant get his legs through the bars.
fuzzy - how did Chloe go at your mums with the EBM? And happy birthday!!
I hope all you Melbourne girls manage to catch up! I'll be looking forward to seeing the photos of all the bubs together
Sydney was fantastic, I got to catch up with some friends, and Isaac got to meet his great-grandfather for the first time. The travelling was great, Isaac was perfect on the flights. As we were getting off a lady sitting opposite us commented that she didn't even know he was there. Such a relief, I always worry he'll be unsettled in situations like that His wind pains at night are improving, the Infacol seems to work so I give him that with his night time feeds. If I don't he wakes up after an hour with belly pains poor bub.
I bought Isaac a jolly jumper, and wow! He absolutely loves it. I've never seen him with so much energy! I also got one of those plastic reclined seat things that goes in the bath tub.. it's a bit of a challenge to bath him sometimes as he's getting so heavy so this should help.
We've got swimming lessons starting on Monday, should be fun. I'm also going to start going to play group this Friday, can't wait, I think he'll enjoy it.
Bec - I have the jolly jumper for bella she loves it too I jumped the gun abit and got a actual
Bath seat they sit up in I hold her a bit still but it's easier.
I'm starting swimming lessons again with DS on Wednesday but I'm not doing it with Bella till Shes one. I would never tell a mum what to do, but just be careful starting issac so young as he's not finished his him needles and kids get so sick catching things swimming. Xx
Happy Birthday Fuzzy! And Happy Australia Day everyone!
Fuzzy, It's funny you say Chloe isn't taking the bottle as I have a girl at mothers group who's daughter is Chloe and won't take the bottle either. She's having alot of trouble and has tried every single bottle out there and sippee cups like you have. She's had her sister and other people try it for her but she still hasn't taken it. Must be so frustrating for you, especially when you just want a break. Fingers crossed for you *hugs*
That's great to see all you Melbourne girls are going to meet up
Buzzie, I've started Bodie with swimming lessons too, he will have his 1st one on one lesson with the teacher on friday, thinking he will scream the place down but we'll see. I won't start Isla yet till later.
Isla is going well had her 4month immunisations last friday..omg she screamed when they were giving her the oral dose! Then she screamed even harder when the needles came, the poor thing I felt like crying myself. She had a bit of a temp that night and didn't sleep well but she was fine the next day.
Apes - hope Isla is on the mend after her vaccinations.....Hannah had hers on Tuesday this week... she was like Isla - she was the loudest screamer there! And it went on for ages - the whole 15 mins we had to wait... certainly interesting having everyone look sympathetically and smile at me. She even refused the breast, each of the 5 times I offered. But she went to sleep in the car on the way home and then slept for ages. Yesterday she had a mild temperature for most of the day yesterday and then was really out of sorts last night. But a getting home to her own environment and nice bath and feed seemed to help. She has a very mild temp today but is sleeping well today.
Connie - poor George growing so fast!
Not much else to report here - my baby girl is growing so fast. I have an MRI on Monday, so guess I will find out if I am claustrophobic or not! Enjoy the Melbourne catch up girls!
Buzzie - thanks for the advice I just think swimming lessons are so important, and apparently they are never too young to start. When my little sister was just starting to walk we were at my aunties house, little sister disappeared for a minute, mum noticed and looked for her. She found her on the ladder of my aunties new pool about to jump in. Mum started us all in swimming lessons immediately, it was such a huge scare. A few seconds later and she would have been in the water. I live around lots of exposed water here, and just want to know that Isaac is able to stay afloat at a very young age. I have a feeling he's going to be an early crawler/walker so just want him to be safe. Not that I'll leave him alone around water, but accidents can unfortunatley happen. As for picking up bugs etc, that's just something we'll have to deal with if it happens.
dory - good luck with your MRI. Love your new pic next to your name btw!
I told a couple of the mothers group mums that Isaac is still feeding every 3 hours at night, they said to just give him a dummy instead to see if he will sleep longer. I'm a bit worried if I start to do that then my milk supply might start to decrease. Should I do it?
Bec - If you want the sleep more then I'd say do it. If you don't mind the sleep disruptions then don't do it.
Each mum has to make their own decision about the use of a dummy. For some it's a big thing and others it's a non issue. Just depends on what it is for you.
I wouldn't expect your supply to be too affected as a lot of breast fed babies sleep through or only have one feed during the night and they still put on weight - so that means that supply is still good.
Hmm - I didn't think about babies getting sick from swimming early. Might have to look into it.
Pity I don't look as hot as my avvy IRL. Never mind.
lol dory - it's a gorgeous avvy & grats on your RAKs GL with the MRI on Monday.
Bec - I agree with Dory, your decision. In terms of supply, from what I understand it's generally pretty well established now, so I wouldn't have thought it would be a problem. I guess it depends on him too, he may just not be happy with being fobbed off with a dummy! You could always try it and see? See how you feel & how he responds. It can be worthwhile to have a play around to work out what works for you both.
Am a bit behind on all the persies, but have been reading. Annika has been a bit more unsettled recently, didn't help that she spewed up all her losec one day. I find her sleep very unpredictable which is frustrating. DH still sick but is on new drugs, and we should know by early next week if it's working. He's been given a very obscure diagnosis of nucleo reticular vestibular syndrome which is a brainstem issue. Apparently it "overrecovered" from an earlier virus (which caused vestibular issues). Go figure, all i know is that I hope the drugs work (as does he). DS has conjuncitivitis which is a new one for us. Learn something every day huh.
Belfie - keep the faith- you will get there. Glad DH can now put a name to what he's suffering from.... something to focus the frustration on. Hope Xander's conjuctivitis gets better soon - it's very contagious I hear. Poor Annika being unsettled... just makes it harder for you huh? Keep going strong, you'll get there, though I know it's tough now.
Bec - I did some research, only a tiny little bit - here is a link - http://raisingchildren.net.au/articl...ols_-_cyh.html - if you think about it too seriously no one would go swimming at all....I booked Hannah in and they said she had to have had her 4 month vaccinations to attend. Not sure if they'll ask to see her vaccination history. Oh well.
thanks for that link dory, there are some good tips on there. Isaac hasn't had his 4 month immunisations yet, but the swimming lesson people didn't mention anything about it. I think what I'll do is keep his head above the water. Shouldn't be too difficult, we went to the local pool last week and he loved it, but wouldn't let me put him in lower than his waist anyway because the water was a bit cold. Also I'll rinse us both off in the shower straight away before we come home.
Belfie - I hope things get better soon for you, your DH, Xander and Annika too
Bec - I wouldnt give him a dummy but thats just me. I think if they get used to dummies it can inhibit speech development. Again, my opinion. I would however, try and resettle him without a feed and see if you can stretch him out longer. Chloe has a stuffed dog that she cuddles (ie signature pic) which helps her go back to sleep. Does Isaac have a comforter of some sort?
Sorry gotta run and sort out the house for this cyclone thats coming through so no persies just yet.
Thanks for all the birthday wishes
ps have had some luck (some!) getting Chloe on a bottle. She is taking about 50 mls out of a sippy cup. So hope to increase this so that this Monday I dont have to go and feed her in the middle of the day like last week!
