Cally, I hope you had a great birthday - well done on scoring a laptop!! I got one for my birthday too, it is great!
G, wow on having co-slept for so long! That is lovely that he went into his own bed on his own accord. We probably could have avoided the last couple of years of sleep drama if we had just let W keep co-sleeping, but I really really hate it. I am so hoping this next kid will sleep the whole night in its own bed.
No drama about schools here. The one in this town is a decile 1 full of bullies school that I will never ever send him to. The other is next to the kindy and is a decile 7 and has a great reputation. The difference between them is so massive that if they bring in the zoning like they have suggested then we will move to the next town so he can attend the better school.
My weekend away was good. Kev was hilarious, fully recommend going to see him if you get a chance.
Seem to have been struck with pregnancy insomnia, am spending several hours laying awake at night and then struggling to make it through the day.
glad you had a great weekend away arte
we had a lovely time out on sat night and i actually spend most of the evening talking to a lady that lives a couple of streets away who we plan to catch up with again so that is great
i snuck into bed with L early this morning for some sneaky cuddles LOL i miss him!
so are most people doing the local public primary thing?
G, the school thing for A is a non-issue - he will go to the school the other three go to, but we are so lucky that we have a fantastic school with amazing staff so I'd never even consider sending them anywhere else. Which is a good thing because it is the only school close to us LOL. If it was a bad school we'd be up ****ers ditch.
Arte, how great was your sleep? I reckon Kev would still be funny even after all these years. Glad you had a good time.
Cally, WOOHOO on the laptop! I love ours. I hardly ever use the PC now and love sitting in front of the TV with it when DH is on nightshift and can't tell me off for it
Proud mummy moment - I got a phone call from the highschool today which I thought was a bad sign and I was a little confused. But it was the school counsellor who works across both the primary and highschool and he asked me if L would like to participate in the Tournament of Minds this year! It is a really prestigious comp and only the very brightest kids get selected to do it and he said that the principal of the school put L's name forward as someone she thought would be suitable. I said yes right away. He will be stoked to be a part of it. A few weeks back he went to a science challenge day as well and thought it was great. It will be very intensive for him but he will get so much from it.
i think we have too much choice here! which is why it is doing my head in. his best friend is going to the local public primary so that is swaying me that way. J's best mate will be going there too.
eta- oh wow trill! that is very impressive. you must be so proud! i think that would bring tears to my eyes if it ever happened to one of my sons! lol
Ginger, if the local school is good, then go for it! I don't think there is a huge benefit in private school for primary years if the public has a good reputation. I would mainly consider private as a back up if the public was no good iykwim
yeah the public ones seems really good. it's just that the private one seems brilliant.
dh wants them to go to the public one till grade 6 and then swap to private.
i'm doing a tour of the private one next week, so i'll know more about it after that. so confusing!
I'd agree with your DH. I don't see private being much better than public in the early years, unless you need to go private because the public is terrible. But it is a really good idea to have a tour of both so you can see them both in action for yourself. A lot of the time the rumors that make their way around are heavily biased.
I would only send my kids to private school if I had absolutely no other options. It is so expensive and TBH, I have always believed that if a child wants to excel and do well at school they will do that no matter what school they are at if they have the right support. With private schools you always seem to have your hand in your pocket for something too - even now DH still gets sent letters asking for donations from the 'student alumni body' which is all the ex students to help pay for all their ridiculous programs and buildings and if you give them enough money, heck you even get your name on a plaque at the door. And he left that school nearly 20 years ago!
yeah i know what you mean. i can't speak for primary schools, as i've only ever been in public ones, but i have been in a lot of high schools- both public and private and i can see a huge difference. there is a lot of factors involved- resources, expectations, travel time- i guess every school needs to be judged individually.
Anyway, I'll do a tour and let you all know how I go with both. If we decide on the private it puts a lot of pressure on me to go back to work earlier and work longer hours so it may not be the best thing for our family. They will definitely be going there from yr 7 though so that gives us some time to save and win lotto lol
Just heard on the news they are expecting strong winds and property damage here tonight. We better not lose power when offspring is on!
Ginger - Unless the local public school is bad I don't see much benefit at all for private primary schools. Definitely can for high school, although it can depend on where you are as well - we have two local private high schools that don't do as well as the public high school with their results and because they are smaller can't offer the range of HSC subjects that the public one can. Can you get a job at the private school so you get reduced fees when they get to high school???
Popping in to say CONGRATULATIONS JM!!! Awesome news, much love
Re school, I'm with Trill, if it is in the child to succeed they will do it regardless of where they are schooled. That being said we are going private but only because DH went to the same school as a child and the public ones in our area are nothing special. If we had access to a good public school we would have gone down that road as private fees are not cheap.
so happy for Ange and her beautiful pink bundle. took the boys shopping this morning and L picked out a lovely gift for the baby girl. can't wait to go and meet her xoxoxo
